About This Class

Learn to speak French in a way you've never experienced before

Bonjour et bienvenue (Hello and welcome)

My name is Kieran, and I’ve been teaching foreign languages for over eighteen years. I love languages, I love learning and I love teaching. I also love chocolate, but this isn’t really the place to discuss my chocoholism!

I created 3 Minute French as a way to make learning French easier than ever before and accessible to anybody, especially people who have tried and failed in the past. My course is perfect for the complete beginner as I break down the French language into tiny chunks that I show you how to build back together again in a logical, simple to understand way. You can go from knowing no French at all to putting together your own sentences in just a few minutes.

This is the first course in the 3 Minute French series. If you want to watch course 2, click the link below:

3 MINUTE FRENCH - COURSE 2: https://skl.sh/3EzCkNR

HOW DOES 3 MINUTE FRENCH WORK?

As the name suggests, each lesson in this course lasts just three minutes (more or less!). In each lesson, you learn a tiny chunk of French that you can use to build sentences. As you work through the course, you learn more and more little chunks and your sentences will gradually get longer and longer.

The chunks that you learn in the first lessons are carried through to the last lessons. This means you don’t have to worry about trying to remember everything; you will get so much opportunity for practice that you will find the words and phrases just sink into your brain.

The lessons in this course are focused, practical and effective, and you will build language skills that you can use straight away in real-world situations. You will be able to speak French comfortably and with confidence whenever you’re in a French-speaking country.

----------

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THIS COURSE?

Here's a handy contents page you can use to see a brief outline of what you'll learn in this course. It will also come in handy whenever you want to recap any particular part of the course - you'll be able to find the lesson quickly without having to trawl through videos!

WHY 3 MINUTES?

When you begin learning something new, you tend to start off with lots of excitement and motivation. You might spend a few hours on the first day learning, but then the next day, you can only manage one hour, and then that goes down to half an hour, and then you get bored and you give up. Well, the reason behind the very short lessons is that it helps you to stay motivated and it also enhances the learning process.

By keeping your learning to short chunks, you will find three wonderful things start to happen:

1. You will maintain enthusiasm

If you want to learn anything, you have to maintain enthusiasm or else you won’t continue. If you limit your study time to just three minutes, you’ll keep French fresh and exciting and you’ll be eager to learn. If you spend hours studying, very quickly you’ll get bored with French and it’ll turn into a chore.

2. You will study more consistently

It’s much better to study for just three minutes once a day than to study for three hours once a week. A spare three minutes is relatively easy to find even in the most hectic of schedules. If you make sure you complete at least one three-minute study session every day, it’ll quickly become a habit that you’ll do without thinking. It’s much easier to fit in a daily three-minute habit than a weekly one-hour habit. By doing this, you’ll become a much more consistent learner, and consistency is the key to success.

3. You will remember things better

This is my favourite reason as to why you should limit your study to just three-minute chunks. If you study something for just three minutes every day, you’ll trick your brain into memorising the information more quickly than if it were to see the information for hours each day. It’ll think, “I see this information every day so it must be important, but I don’t see it for very long, so I’d better hold onto it and make it into a memory fast!” You’ll be amazed at how much more easily things tend to stay in your brain if you limit yourself to just three minutes a day.

So, that’s why I keep the lessons to just three minutes.

----------

A METHOD THAT REALLY WORKS

I can’t quite believe it, but over 500,000 people in more than 200 countries have now used 3 Minute Languages to learn to speak a foreign language. It still amazes me when I get an email from somebody on the other side of the world telling me how much they have enjoyed learning French with me. Apart from the thrill it gives me to find out people are listening to my voice in places like Mongolia, Peru and even Fiji, it also confirms to me that the 3 Minute Languages courses work well.

So, if you want a course that teaches you to speak French you can use in everyday situations using a simple and fun method, then start watching 3 Minute French today.

Merci :-)

Kieran

1. Introduction to the course: Bozo AB Avenue. Hello and welcome to this French Course. My name is Kieran and I've been teaching foreign languages for over 18 years. I love languages, I love learning, and I love teaching. I also love chocolate, but this isn't really the place to discuss my chocoholism. I created three Minute French as a way to make learning French easier than ever before and accessible to anybody, especially people who have tried and failed in the past. My course is perfect for the complete beginner. As I break down the French language into tiny chunks that I show you how to build back together again, in a logical, simple to understand way. You can go from knowing no French at all to putting together your own sentences in just a few minutes. The words and phrases that you'll learn in this course will be useful to you in any French-speaking country. A lot of traditional language courses either start by teaching you an endless list of pronunciation rules, or you learn phrases that aren't too useful for the beginner, such as how to talk about your family or your job. In three-minute French, you'll learn the most useful words first, as well as vocabulary. There are some useful grammar points that will be explained to you in bite-sized chunks. You will then be given plenty of opportunities to put them into practice. Say absolute more fantastic. In this first course, you'll also be given to vocabulary Expansion Sheets, which are documents full of useful vocabulary in specific topics. In this course, it's food and drink and numbers. These vocabulary Expansion Sheets give a boost to your French and help you to improve your comprehension. Finally, the title, three-minute French. Obviously, you can't learn French in just 3 min, but you can learn it in three-minute chunks. As the name suggests, each lesson in this course lasts just 3 min, more or less. In each lesson, you learn a tiny chunk of French that you can use to build sentences. As you work through the course, you learn more and more little chunks. Your sentences will gradually get longer and longer. The chunks that you learn in the first lessons are carried through to the last lessons. This means you don't have to worry about trying to remember everything. You will get so much opportunity for practice that you'll find the words and phrases just sink into your brain. The lessons in this course are focused, practical, and effective. And you will build language skills that you can use straight away. In real-world situations. You'll be able to speak French comfortably and with confidence whenever you're in a French-speaking country. Why 3 min? When you begin learning something new, you tend to start off with lots of excitement and motivation. You might spend a few hours on the first day learning. But then the next day you can only manage 1 h. And then that goes down to half an hour and then you get bored and you give up. Well, the reason behind the very short lessons is that it helps you to stay motivated and it also enhances the learning process. It's much easier to fit in a daily three-minute habit than a weekly one-hour habit. By doing this, you'll become a much more consistent learner. And consistency is the key to success. Thirdly, you will remember things better. This is my favourite reason as to why you should limit your study to just three-minute chunks. If you study something for just 3 min every day, you'll trick your brain into memorising the information more quickly than if it were to see the information for hours each day. It'll think I see this information every day. So it must be important, but I don't see it for very long. So I'd better hold onto it and make it into a memory fast. You'll be amazed at how much more easily, things tend to stay in your brain if you limit yourself to just 3 min a day. So that's why I keep these lessons to just 3 min. What will I learn in this course? You will start off learning a few words in French that you can string together in different orders to form lots of different sentences. As you work through the course, you'll add more and more words and phrases that will let you form longer and more complex sentences with ease. In this course, you'll also learn about the different accents in French. There, the little lines that you see above some letters. You'll learn about a little Pronunciation tip that will immediately make you sound more like a French native. You'll learn some grammar points in a really simple to understand way. You'll learn about what nouns and adjectives are, what masculine and feminine and plural means in French. And you'll learn about the different words for the. And my. That's just a little taste of what you'll be learning in this course. But there is much more and you'll be speaking in sentences from the very first lesson. I recommend that you work through this course in its entirety. And I don't suggest that you skip lessons because everything leads on from the last lesson, incorporating things you learned previously and adding them in a way that helps you to remember everything. However, I have created a table of contents to make it easier for you to go back as and when you want to recap specific topics, you can find this table of contents at the very beginning of the course. A method that really works. I can't quite believe it, but over 500,000 people in more than 200 countries have now used three Minute Languages to learn to speak a foreign language. It still amazes me when I get an email from somebody on the other side of the world telling me how much they have enjoyed learning French with me. So if you want a course that teaches you to speak French that you can use in everyday situations using a simple and phone method. Then sign up to three Minute French today, merci 2. 1a - Your first few words: Here's your first word in French. Bone. Bone. It means good bone. The n on the end is a nasal sound. If you say the word bond and then take the g away bone, that's how you pronounce bone, meaning good. Here's your next word. Say. Say. It means it is. Say. How would you say in French? It is good. Say bom. Bom. You'll start to notice similarities between French and English words, e.g. this word, fantastic, fantastic. You can probably guess it means fantastic. Fantastic. So how would you say in French it is fantastic. Say fantastic. Fantastic is another way that looks similar to its English equivalent. Absolute mom. Absolute moon. It means absolutely, absolutely Mom. How would you say in French? It is absolutely fantastic. Say absolutely fantastic. Say absolute fantastic. We've had so far bone, meaning good. Say, meaning it is fantastic. Meaning fantastic. And absolute mom, which means absolutely. Here's a cute little French word. Isi. Isi. It means here is C. So how would you say it is here? Say EC. Say EC. How would you say it is good here? Say bone is C. Say Bonnie, See. How would you say it is fantastic here? Say fantastic EC, a fantastic EC 3. 1b - très: How would you say in French? It is absolutely fantastic year. Say absolutely fantastic. Is C. Say absolute most fantastic, easy. Here's a word that you might recognize if you've learned any French before. Okay? Say, it means very. So how would you say in French? It is very good. Set table. Say Trayvon. We've had bone, which means good. Ce, which means it is fantastic. Which means fantastic. Absolutely mon means absolutely. Ec, means here. Means vary. So how would you say it is very good here? Say type only. See, say type one is C. You might be wondering what that little line is on top of the e in tray. It's called an accent. Don't worry about it for the time being. We're looking at it in detail in a later lesson, but just remember to write it on the word meaning vary. The word set means it is. Well the opposite of c is, so nepa. Nepa, it means it isn't. So nepa. So how would you say in French, it isn't here. Soon. A path you see senate back EC. It isn't good. Sunni backbone. Backbone. It isn't very good. A peptide bond. So in a bathtub on it isn't fantastic. So Nipah, fantastic, cinnabar, fantastic. It isn't very good here. Soon a peptide bond is C. So in a pathway bony see. So in this lesson, we've learned bone, meaning good, CE, which means it is fantastic. Fantastic. Absolutely more means absolutely. Ec, means here, means very soon. Eight bar means it isn't 4. 1c - Let's practise - English to French: You've learned quite a few words and phrases in French. Now, you've hopefully been saying them out loud so you can master the pronunciation. Now to really embed these words and phrases in your brain, let's do some translations. How would you say in French, it's good. Sebum. Sebum is absolutely fantastic here. Say absolute monk, fantastic. Ec, say absolutely more fantastic. Isi. It's good here. Say Bonnie see, say bony, see. Now you might have noticed that the word bone in this sentence, you can hear the N on the end of say Bonnie See. And that's because when you say the word bone, and it's followed by a word that starts with a vowel. That's a, E, I, 0, U. You can pronounce the n more clearly. So you would say save, Bonnie see, rather than say bone EC. So normally the word bond is pronounced with a nasal sound on the end. As I said, if you say the word bond and take the g off, that's how you say bone. But when it's followed by a word that starts with a vowel, you can pronounce the end, mall, say Bonnie, See? How would you say in French? It is very good. Say tailbone, say Trayvon. How would you say it isn't good here? So nepa, Bonnie see, Senate by Bonnie see, it isn't good. It's fantastic. So napalm bomb, say fantastic. So napalm bomb say fantastic. It's fantastic. A fantastic, a fantastic. It's fantastic here. Say fantastic EC. Say fantastic EC. It isn't good here. It's absolutely fantastic. Soon a Pi bond is c, is the absolute most fantastic. Pi bond is C. Say absolutely fantastic. How would you say it's very good here? Say type one is C. Say type one is C 5. 1d - Let's practise - French to English: What we'll do now are some reverse translations. These will go from French to English. So what do these French sentences mean in English? A bad type on a path to a bomb. It isn't very good. Say Trayvon. Say Taiwan. It is very good. Napa ISI. Isi. It isn't here. Say absolutely fantastic EC. Say absolutely fantastic EC. It is absolutely fantastic here. So in a bathtub, honesty, son, a bath time onesie. It isn't very good here. Sable, disable. It's good. Say EC, say EC. It's here. Just note that the word say can mean it's all it is. What does this mean in English? Sonnet, but Bonnie see, Nate by Bonnie see, it isn't good here. Say bony, see, say bony see. It's good here. So an a pi bond, say absolutely fantastic. So napalm bomb say absolutely fantastic. It isn't good. It's absolutely fantastic. 6. 1e - What else?: Let's now recap all the words that we've learned in this lesson. How do you say in French? It is, or it's say, Absolutely, absolutely. Fantastic. Fantastic. Good. Bone. Here. Ec vary. It isn't soon eight-bar quadrotor. What else? There is plenty you can do to make sure the language stays firmly in your brain and doesn't disappear. You can play about with building sentences from the words you've learned so far. Whenever you find yourself with a spare thirty-seconds, think of something you can say in French. Saying short sentences to yourself in French throughout the day keeps the language at the forefront of your mind. Also, from time to time, there will be a word or two or maybe three that just will not stay in your memory no matter how hard you try. What you should do to overcome this is write the word down in English in big letters, in the middle of a blank piece of paper. Put the piece of paper in your pocket and take it out a few times each day. Whenever you take it out, look at the English word and say the French word to yourself, along with the French sentence that contains this word. The first few times, you might struggle to think of what the French word is and you'll have to double-check. However, pretty quickly you will remember the French without having to check. You'll be amazed at how well this technique works. Finally, before I end this lesson, I'll just give you some information on what it means to learn a language. Memorizing lots of words isn't what it means to learn a language. It's a start, but it isn't going to get you very far. What you need to be able to do is put those words together to get your thoughts and ideas across to somebody else. Each time you learn a new word, think to yourself. Why could I use this? Makeup a sentence and think about where you could say it. Say table. You could say this to a waiter in a restaurant when he asks you how your meal is. By doing this, getting the words relevance in your life. You'll remember things much more easily if you can see where they're going to be useful. Also, by building sentences, you are subconsciously creating a list of things to say so that you will never be lost for words. Even when you're in France, you can do this before entering a restaurant, e.g. have a quick think about what you could say to the waiter when you go inside. This helps to build your confidence and stops you from having to think on the spot. This is because you will be more likely to speak if you've already prepared something to say 7. 2a - délicieux: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French? Absolutely. Absolutely, mom. It isn't nepa. Good. Bone. Fantastic. Fantastic. Very tight. It is. Say, here, EC. Now, here's your first word in French for this second lesson. Daily. Daily steer. It means delicious. That is you. Now, did you notice there is another one of those accents on top of the e in Delhi. It's similar to the one we saw in play, but it's facing the other way round. The accent in Delhi sphere is called an acute accent. It starts on the bottom left and goes up to the top right. Daily. The accent in tray is a graph accent. And it starts in the top-left and finishes at the bottom right. So you have an acute accent on the graph accent. It doesn't really make much difference what they're called, but it is nice to know the accent. Don't do a huge amount in French, but there is a tiny difference in how you pronounce each one. It is very minor, so don't worry too much about it at this stage. However, I'll just show you the difference now. So, you know, the letter E with an acute accent should be pronounced like the vowel sound in the English word pay. Imagine you have the word pay, but take away the P and the y, and you're left with a, a. It's an a sound like daily sue. The letter E with a graph accent should be pronounced like the E in the English word fed. So if you take the F and the D away, you're left with air. So you've got a and a, a, a. The difference is very minor, so I wouldn't worry too much about it at this stage. We've just learned that the word daily means delicious. So how would you say it is delicious? Say Dilly. Dilly soon? 8. 2b - extraordinaire & beau: Here's your next word in French, and it's another word that looks and sounds very similar to the English, extraordinaire. Extraordinaire. It means extraordinary. Extraordinary. So how would you say in French, it is extraordinary? Say extraordinaire, say x coordinate. It is absolutely extraordinary. Say absolute mom extraordinaire. Say absolutely, mom extraordinaire. It is absolutely extraordinary here. Say absolute mom extraordinaire, EC, say absolutely more extraordinarily see, is a beautiful little word in French. Bu. Well, it means beautiful, blue. Some people have a little bit of difficulty with this word because it does sound a little bit like bone. So bone is good. Boat is beautiful. Bone. Bow. Bow means beautiful. How would you say in French it is beautiful. Stable, stable. So in this lesson so far we've had this year, meaning delicious extraordinaire, which means extraordinary. And bow means beautiful. How would you say it is very beautiful? Say table. Say table. It is very beautiful here. Say typo, EC, say table is C. It is absolutely beautiful here. Say absolute mambo, EC, say absolutely Mambo is C 9. 2c - pour moi: Here's a useful phrase in French. Poor. Poor moire. It means for me, for means fall and more means me for moire. So how would you say in French? It is for me, sebum. Sebum war. It isn't for me. As soon a pap or more Sydney Pepper moire. It isn't good for me. Suny by bom, bom, bom, bom, bom one. It isn't very good for me. Sunni Barclay Bumppo more. So in a peptide bond pour moi, the phrase armoire actually has two meanings in French. So we've just seen that bottom one can mean for me. And that is what it literally means. Bore means fall and more means me. Baltimore literally means for me. But if you put pour moi at the start of a sentence in French, you can use it as a way of giving your opinion. So you can think of it as meaning, in my opinion, or I think this isn't what it literally means, but it is used in this way quite a lot. So how would you say in French, I think it is good. Pour moi, say bom. Bom will say bone. So if you put pour moi at the start of a sentence in French, it's a way of giving your opinion. So it can mean I think in my opinion. So per se bone means I think it's good or in my opinion, it is good. Literally, it means for me it is good. And interesting thing to note is that if you listen to French, people speak English. They will very often use for me as a way of giving their opinion. So they'll say things like For me, it's good. For me, It's delicious. Because you can say that in French, for most stable, most stable. We've had. Deadly sear means delicious. Extraordinaire means extraordinary. Bow means beautiful. Bottom one means for me. And if you put bombs at the start of a sentence, you can use it to mean, in my opinion, or I think 10. 2d - I think: We've just learned that for moire means for me. But you can also use Pour moi at the start of a sentence in French, and it can be used as a way of giving your opinion. So you can think of it as a way of saying, In my opinion, or I think this is a good thing to learn early on because you'll start to notice that languages use things differently. And sometimes it's not always enough just to know what the word is literally, but you need to know how they use it in the language. So poem literally means for me. But you will also hear French speakers use Baltimore as a way of giving their opinion. So how would you say in French? I think it's very good. But what say tailbone, Baltimore, say time-bomb. I think it's delicious. Bottom what? Say delete you. But what say, Dennis, Yu, I think it's absolutely extraordinary here. Bob moire say absolute most extraordinary. See. Baltimore. Say absolute most extraordinary. See. I think it's fantastic year. Baltimore, say fantastic. Dc. Baltimore, say fantastic EC. So in this lesson, we've learned Delicious you, which means delicious. Extraordinaire means extraordinary. Bow means beautiful. Moire means for me. And if you use Bomba at the start of a sentence, it's a way of giving your opinion so you can translate it into English as in my opinion, or I think 11. 2e - cue cards: Cue cards, a very useful tool that you can use when learning a language is cue cards. They play an indispensable role in memorizing new vocabulary. In this three-minute French course, each lesson gives you a handful of new words and phrases. And then you get the opportunity to practice them by putting them into sentences to aid the learning process and to make the new words into memories more quickly. You can do is get some cue cards. You can find cue cards in most stationery shops or even online. However, if you can't find any, just put up some pieces of paper into smallish rectangles and they'll do the same job. After each lesson. Grab a cue card and write down any new words that you've learned. You should do this in a very specific way. For effective memorization, you should write the new words in English than the middle of one side of the cue card. Then turn it over and write the words in French down the middle of the other side. Have a look at this cue card that I made for the first lesson of three-minute fringe. I've put good. It is fantastic. Absolutely. Here vary. And it isn't down the center of one side of the card. And then on the other side, I've put bone, say, Fantastic, Absolutely. Moon, EC, tray and sniper on the other side of the card. The reason why you should write the English on one side and the French on the other, is so that when you practice, you can read through the words on the English side and try to remember the French words. E.g. if you see fantastic, then you can think fantastic. In this course, there are nine lessons. So you will have nine cue cards filled with words and phrases. You should look at these cue cards every day for just a few minutes. Only ever look at the English side and try to guess the words in French. You should only rarely turn it over to check if you just cannot think of the French word. This will help to embed the new words and phrases in your mind. Obviously, going through the words on the cue cards by itself isn't going to take more than a few seconds. So what you can do is build a few sentences in your mind for each word you come across. E.g. if you come to the word good, you can try and say things like it is good. It is always very good. It isn't very good. Say these sentences out loud in French, and it will make it much easier for you when you actually come to use the words and phrases in a real life situation. So cue cards are great way to memorize the new words and phrases that you'll be getting from each lesson in this course. Look at them every day. Only look at the English side and try to guess the French words. And then try and build a few sentences that you could use for each word 12. 2f - Let's practise - English to French: Now we've added quite a few new words to our French repertoire. So let's practice putting them together into sentences. How do you say in French? It's very beautiful here. Say table is C. Say typo is C. It's absolutely beautiful. Say absolute mambo. Say absolute mambo. I think it's very good. But what say type bom, bom, what say table. It's absolutely extraordinary here. Say absolutely extraordinary. See, say absolutely more extraordinarily. See. It isn't for me. Suny backbone moire, Sydney Pepper moire. It isn't very good for me. Soon a peptide bond form one. So in a bathtub armoire, it isn't good. It's absolutely extraordinary. So napalm bomb, say absolutely more extraordinaire. Napalm bomb, say absolute mom, extraordinaire. It's absolutely delicious. Say absolute mom did is you say absolute amount deletes you. I think it's delicious. But what say daily? But what say delete you. I think it's fantastic. Fantastic. But what say Fantastic? 13. 2g - Let's practise - French to English: Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. What do these French sentences mean in English? Say extraordinaire. Say extraordinaire. It's extraordinary. It's the absolute mambo. Say absolutely Mambo. It's absolutely beautiful. Bomber say absolutely, Mambo is sea. Bottom one. Say absolute Mambo is C. I think it's absolutely beautiful here. But what, sebum? Sebum. I think it's good. Sit table and say table. Baltimore. It's very good for me. Suny Buffalo moire, Sunni back baltimore. It isn't for me. Say Delhi. Delhi. It's delicious. Bomb what St. Denise, you say Dennis, Yu. I think it's delicious. Say absolute mambo, EC, say absolute Mambo is C. It's absolutely beautiful here. In APAC table, Sunni path table. It isn't very beautiful 14. 2h - Let's recap - English to French: Throughout this entire three-minute French course, as well as all subsequent courses, will be continually recapping and reusing everything that we've learned so far. That way we haven't got to worry about forgetting anything. So what we're going to do now are some recap translations using words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. So how would you say in French, it isn't very good. Sunni. Sunni back bone. It isn't good here. Soon a pub only see. It's an a pi bond. You see? It's absolutely fantastic here. Say absolutely fantastic. Ec. Say absolutely more fantastic. Ec is fantastic. Say Fantastic. Say fantastic. It's good here. Say lunacy. Say Bonnie, see. It's here. Say ISI, ISI. It's fantastic here. Say fantastic. Ec, say fantastic is C. It isn't good here is absolutely fantastic. Sunni pub onesie. Say absolutely fantastic. Sunni Babylon is C. Say absolutely fantastic. It isn't very good here. Suny, but type one is C. So in a bathtub only see. It's very good. Said Taiwan. Taiwan 15. 2i - Let's recap - French to English: Now we'll do some French to English recap translations. What do these friends sentences mean in English? Sonnet by bony see, Senate, by Bonnie see. It isn't good here. So in a bathtub on Sunday, but it isn't very good. Say, is C, say EC. Here. Say fantastic, fantastic, easy. It's fantastic here. Suny by Bonnie see, say absolute most fantastic. So Nipah Bonnie c is the absolute most fantastic. It isn't good here. It's absolutely fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Ec, say absolutely fantastic. Isi. It's absolutely fantastic here. Soon a path fantastic. Fantastic. It isn't fantastic. Same onesie. Say bony, see. It's good here. Sebum, sebum. It's good. Fantastic. Fantastic. It's fantastic. 16. 2j - Recap of words so far: Let's recap all the words and phrases that we've learned so far in the first two lessons. How do you say in French? It is. See, here. See fantastic, fantastic, delicious. Daily. See you. It isn't. So nepa, good. Bone. Very extraordinary. Extraordinaire, I think, or in my opinion. Paul moire. Beautiful. Bu for me. Moire? Absolutely. Absolutely. Mom 17. 3a - CAREFUL consonants: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French for me? But armoire? I think in my opinion, Bomba, delicious, delicious. You extraordinary, extraordinary, beautiful. Boom. Now here's your first word in French for this lesson. Mei. Mei. It means boot, may. Now the word May is spelled M, IS, but you pronounce it as though there isn't an S on the end at all. Well, there's a funny thing about consonants in French. You rarely ever pronounced them when they're on the end of a word. The only continent you pronounce on the ends of words in French, or the letters C or F and L. C or F and L. And you can remember them because they appear in the word careful. So you can call them the careful continents. C or F and L are the only consonants that you pronounce on the ends of words in French. E.g. SAC. Sac means bag, and you pronounce the C on the end. Sac. Poor. Poor means four, and you can hear the r on the end. They are on the end of a word in French, sounds almost like a harsh h sound. Poor. Birth. Birth means beef, and you pronounce the F on the end. Birth. And nochmal. Nochmal means normal. And you pronounce the L on the end. So you can pronounce C or F and L, But no other continents are pronounced on the ends of words in French. Because the word may ends in an s, you don't pronounce it. So you just say May for booked. How would you say then it is delicious. But it isn't very good for me. Say delete, you met Sidney Poitier, Bumppo moire, say daily, mess in a battery bump armoire 18. 3b - stress the last syllable: Here's your next word in French, and it's one you'll probably have heard before if you've learned any French. We we it means yes. So how would you say yes? It's for me. We set armoire. We set Palmer. Yes, it's absolutely delicious. We say absolute Mondelez. Do we say absolute Mondelez, you? Yes, I think it's good. We bought more sebum. We must say one. Here's another common yet useful word in French. Messy. Messy. It means thank you or thanks. Messy. It was this weird that taught me something useful in French. And that is that you always emphasize the last syllable of any word. I remember being on holiday in France and we were waiting to get our passports checked at the airport. I was listening to everybody in the queue as they walked up to them and checking the passports. And you could just tell who was French and who was English. By the way, they said mercy. The English people were saying it messy, messy, and the French were saying it messy. Messy. It was only a minor difference, but it was enough of a difference to make it obvious when somebody wasn't French. In French, you always stress the very last syllable of any word. So because mercy has two syllables, you stress the last one. You put the emphasis on the C, on the end. You say messy rather than messy. Messy. This is the same with any word in French. We've had Dilly. Dilly soon, which means delicious. You don't say daily steer or the list here, like we say delicious. You say that if you stress the Sioux on the end Day this year, we've had is C. Is C. So it's not ISI. Isi. You stress the second part? Absolutely more. Absolutely more. You stress the mom on the end. So it's not absolute max or absolute Mon, it's absolute mom. Absolutely more and fantastic. Fantastic. So it's not fantastic like we say in English. Fantastic, It's fantastic. You stress the last syllable more than any other. Debt is still EC, absolutely fantastic. It's just a little thing to note. But if you remember it now, it will serve you well. Whenever you learn a new word in French, always emphasize the last syllable and you'll instantly sound more French 19. 3c - merci & toujours: So we've just said the word messy means thank you or thanks, and you stress the last syllable, messy. So how would you say in French? Yes, thank you. It's delicious. We must see the Listeria. We now see, say, deliberative. We've had made. Which means boat. We which means yes. And MRC means Thank You or Thanks. How would you say yes, Thank you. It's fantastic. We see, say Fantastic. We must see, say fantastic. It's very good. Thanks. Table Massey. Say table messy. Yes, it is for me. Thank you. Read my mercy. Mercy. Now here's a new word for you to rule two. Rule. It means always to your puzzle. So how would you say it is always fantastic here? Set to zero, fantastic ISI, set to zero fantastic EC. It isn't always very good here. Sunni back to zero, carbon is C. So the path to your table, you see, I think it's always beautiful here. But more to show who bought ISI. But say to draw Boise 20. 3d - parfait: How would you say in French, it's always absolutely delicious. Set to zero, absolutely Mondelez, you say to show absolute Monday lists you. Now here's a perfect little word in French. Buffy. Buffy. It means perfect buffet. So how would you say in French? Yes, It's perfect. Thank you. We say pathway messy. We say a female C. We've had in this lesson so far. May, which means boat. We, meaning yes. Messy means thank you or thanks to row means always. And Buffet means perfect. So how would you say, I think it's perfect. Say puffy. Puffy. It's absolutely perfect. Set absolute mom, Puffy. Say absolute Month buffet. I think it's absolutely perfect here. Say absolutely mum pathway. You see Baltimore, say absolute Warren Buffet, ISI. It's always perfect here. Set to zero. Isi, say to ZOPA facie. Now, here's a tiny word in French with a funny little thing on it. The word is saf, sof, which means that it's spelt CA, and there's a little squiggle on the sea, but we'll talk about that in a minute. How would you say in French that for me? Sap Baltimore, South Baltimore 21. 3e - the letter C: We've just seen that the word star means that in French, but it's spelled C, a, and there's a little squiggle on the see. The little squiggle underneath the letter C is called a sub dealer. And all it does is tell you to pronounce the sea like an S. That's why star is pronounced. And not a C with a squiggle on the bottom is called a sub dealer. Or in French they call it say CD, which means C sub dealer, say CD. Actually, whilst we're on the topic of the letter C, there are a few more interesting things to say. See, the letter C can be pronounced in two ways. In French, it can be pronounced like a K or like an S. The way you pronounce it depends on what letter comes after it. C plus E or I equals S. If you see the letter C in front of an E or an I, then you pronounce it like an S. E.g. say. Say, means it is, say, or cinema. Cinema means cinema. Cinema. So it's a sound. C plus a 0, u equals k. If you see that as a C in front of an a, an 0, or a u, then you pronounce it like a K. Sound. E.g. cafe. Cafe means coffee. Cafe. Calm, calm. Calm. Calm means cucumber. So it's a combo. Or curiosity. Curiosity means curiosity. Curiosity. So a C followed by an a or a U is pronounced like a K. Finally, if you see a C with the medulla or the little squiggle underneath, then you pronounce it like an S. E.g. some means that gas song. Gas song means boy gas song. So it's a sound. Facade. Facade means front facade. So a C with a sub dealer, or say, say d, is pronounced like the letter S in French 22. 3f - ça c'est: Now the word sum means that in French, the word c means it is. But if you put the two words together, sassy, sassy, it actually means that is literally sat, say, means that it is. And you would think that you would say a four that is put in French. They prefer to avoid the sound. Would have an earth sound in the middle is called a glottal stop. They like things to run smoothly. So sassy, see, sounds nicer than a. So if you want to say that is in French, you say sassy. Sassy. Literally, it does mean that it is, but that's just how you say it in French. Sassy. That is, how would you say that is good? Sassy bone. A bone. So literally it means that it is good sassy sassy bone. Would you say that is very good. I said Trayvon. A table. That is absolutely fantastic. So that's the absolute most fantastic. Say absolutely more fantastic. That is for me, sassy. Sassy Palmer. I think that is perfect. But more sociopathy. Sociopathy. So in this lesson, we've had me, which means boat. We means yes. Messy means thank you, or thanks to zero means always. Buffet means perfect. Means that. Sassy means that is, and don't forget, sassy literally means that it is. But in French, that's how you say that is sassy 23. 3g - Let's practise - English to French: It's time now to practice what we've been learning in this lesson. How do you say in French? It's always here. Set to row is C, set to jockey. See. It isn't always hear. Unique path to show hissy. Sunni back to Zorii. See, it's always absolutely fantastic here. Jacques. Absolutely fantastic. Ec said to joke, absolutely fantastic. Isi. It's for me. Thank you. Sam Bowman, Mercy. Mercy. Yes, it's for me. We sip armoire. We say, it isn't always good here. Suny Albany see backdrop, Bonnie see. It's always very good. Say to show Trayvon, say to your tailbone. I think that is absolutely perfect. For what? Sas the absolute mom puffy. But they absolutely want buffet. That is delicious, but it isn't very good for me. Sassy deletes, you may snippet claim on the list. You miss nepa Trayvon Palmer? Yes, It's perfect. Thank you. We say per female C. We say buffet Massey 24. 3h - Let's practise - French to English: Now let's have a go at doing some reverse translations. What are these French sentences mean in English? We messy. Messy. Yes, Thank you. Say absolute monarchy. Say absolute Month buffet. It's absolutely perfect. Nipah, fantastic. May say tailbone. Send it back on the stick. Messy table. It isn't fantastic, but it's very good. Bottom, what sympathy? Sympathy. I think it's perfect. To zero absolute most fantastic EC. Say to Joe, have three more fantastic EC. It's always absolutely fantastic here. But what say absolutely more extraordinaire set absolute mom extraordinaire. I think it's absolutely extraordinary. Say to Trayvon. I said to Joe thighbone. It's always very good to try menisci. Say to Joe carbon is C. It's always very good here. We assess lipoma messy. We assassinate Beaumont, MFC. Yes, that is for me. Thank you. Sasa, absolute mode. Thank you. 38. 5a - le poulet: Let's start this lesson with a quick recap of the words and phrases that we learned in the last lesson. How do you say in French for him? Louis? Isn't Nipah? No. No. For her. Everything. Too. Bad. Movie. The restaurant is a now here's a nice word with which to start this lesson. Look Palais. Palais. It means the chicken locally. So how would you say in French, the chicken is for me. Luckily, it armoire locally EPO more. I think the chicken here is delicious. From what I see here. Locally, I see a Dennis you. The chicken is for him. Epo Louie, Louie, Louie. The chicken is very good. Loop, a loop, play a treble. The chicken here is always absolutely fantastic. Look Palais EC. A2 is your absolute fantastic loop. Pull a, C, A2, zero, absolute fantastic 39. 5b - la dinde: So look, Palais means the chicken. Well here's another food-related word, lambda and lambda and it means the turkey land. And so how would you say in French, the turkey is for her? Lad and April hail, lead down a bowhead. The turkey is here. Loudon, AEC, Ladin, the AEC. The turkey isn't for me. Lad and napalm war. Dann, Nipah Obama. You might have noticed that I've used two different words for the, in this lesson. I said, Look, look bullae, which means the chicken Lou. And then lad downed. Lad downed, meaning the turkey. Well, there's an interesting thing about the word in French, and that is that there are two words for the. One is used in front of masculine nouns and the other is used in front of feminine nouns. If you use a masculine noun, you have to use Lu. Lu for the. If you use a feminine noun, you have to say la. La For the. But how do you know when the noun is masculine or feminine? Well, sometimes you can guess. E.g. Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm means the boy, and that's a masculine noun, or laugh. Laugh. V is the goo, and that's a feminine noun. However, it's not always so simple. Nouns like table or car, don't have real genders. It's hard to guess what gender the word will be. There is a rule of thumb that you could use to work out whether something is masculine or feminine, but it only works about 80 per cent of the time, so don't rely on it completely. The rule is if a noun ends in the letter E, then it's probably feminine. But don't forget, it doesn't work all the time. So don't rely on it. It's better to look in a dictionary and see what the gender of the noun is in there. But let's have a look at five nouns. New gas song, lute. Song means the boy lost her home. Her home means the restaurant. Look poorly. Loop Palais means the chicken. And they're all masculine nouns. Then we have laugh. Laugh. V means the girl, and lead, and lead downed means the turkey. And they're both feminine nouns. And as you can see, the two feminine nouns, Lafayette and left-hand, and in the letter E, whereas the three masculine nouns don't. So the rule works, as I said, about 80 per cent of the time. So don't rely on it completely. There are lots of words that end in an e that are masculine. But if you're struggling, then if it ends in an E, It's probably a feminine noun. But I wouldn't worry too much at the minute about whether a noun is masculine or feminine. If for the rest of your life, you get them completely muddled up, it wouldn't be the end of the world. It's always better to say something that's a little bit wrong than nothing at all. So don't panic too much. Also, if in doubt, you can check the dictionary and it will tell you whether a noun is masculine or feminine. After the word, it'll have a little m If it's a masculine noun. And the little f If it's a feminine noun 40. 5c - What's a noun?: What's a noun? I remember when I started to learn languages, the teacher would throw around fancy words like noun, adjective, verb, and adverb. And I had no idea what she meant. Well, here's the simplest definition of a noun that I could find. If you can put The in front of a word, then it's most probably a noun. The restaurant, the chicken, the turkey, the table, the house, the window. They are all nouns. So what that means is if you can put law or law in front of words in French, then they announced two. Don't forget, loop and law mean the e.g. lowest or home means the restaurant. Look Palais means the chicken. Left-hand means the turkey. Laugh. V, The Girl. Look at song, the boy. They're all examples of nouns in French. So if you can put the word in front of a word, then it's probably a noun. How would you say in French, the chicken is good. Look Palais a bone. A bone. The word good, which is bone in French, is used to describe things. This is because it's an adjective, and adjectives describe things. If you use good, describe something masculine in French, then you can use the word bone. As we have already seen. However, if you want to say that something feminine is good, the word bone changes slightly and it becomes bond. Bond. B 0 N E. Bone, spelled BON, is the masculine word for good. Bond, is the feminine word for God. The difference in pronunciation is that the masculine word ends in a nasal sound bone, whereas the feminine word, you can clearly hear the letter N bond. So bearing in mind that the word for Turkey in French is a feminine noun. How would you say the turkey is good? Lad and a bond, ladder and a bond 41. 5d - What's an adjective?: We've just seen that the word bone, spelled BON, means good when it's describing a masculine noun. And the word been spelt BON and E is the feminine version of the word good. How would you say in French, the chicken is good. Look, pull a bone, loop, pull a bone. The turkey is good. Ladder and a bond. Ladder and a bond. So in this lesson so far, we've had looked bullae, which means the chicken. Lot downed, means the turkey. Lu and law. The masculine and feminine words for the bone. And bone are the masculine and feminine words for good. How would you say PA is good? A bone, PFA bone. Maria is a good memory, a bone. Maddie, Avon. So because the word bone in its masculine form ends in a consonant, you don't pronounce the n on the end bone. However, because the feminine version bone ends in a vowel, you can pronounce the n sound, so bond and bond. The word bone isn't the only adjective that changes when you describe a feminine noun. Some of the other adjectives that we've learned also change depending on whether they're describing a masculine or feminine noun. But what's an adjective? An adjective is a word that is used to describe something. However, a simpler explanation is this. If you can put it is in front of a word, then it's most probably an adjective. It is good. It is fantastic. It is delicious. It is perfect. It is bad. All those words are adjectives in French, and adjective is a word you can put C in front of a bone. Good. Save fantastic. It's fantastic. It's delicious. Parfait. It's perfect. Same movie. It's bad. So an adjective is a word you can put. It is in front of 42. 5e - masculine vs feminine: The French word for Delicious is delicious you. But when you use it to describe a feminine noun, it changes slightly and it becomes dentists use daily sues. The x on the end of dead tissue changes to an S and it's pronounced daily Sue's. Theory is used to describe a masculine nouns. And that is used, is used to describe a feminine nouns. How would you say then in French, the chicken is delicious. Loop play a delay. Loop, play a Dennis you. How would you say the turkey is delicious? Lead and a deadly serious Loudon? It did is use. So we use daily Sears in this sentence because the word for Turkey is feminine in French. So it doesn't matter who's saying the sentence. All that matters is the noun that it's describing. The noun and the adjective is describing is feminine. You have to use the feminine version of the adjective. The French word for perfect is Buffy. Buffy. But when you use it to describe a feminine noun, you add an e to the end and it becomes Buffett. Buffett, Buffet and Buffet. So how would you say in French, chicken is perfect. Loop will lay a puffy. Look, bullae, a puffy. How would you say the turkey is perfect? Lead and a buffet Ladin, a buffet. Buffy was the masculine word for perfect, and Parfit is the feminine word for perfect. And all you had to do was add an e to the end. And in fact, that's the general rule. It doesn't work all the time. But most of the time, if you have an adjective and you want to make it feminine, you can add an e to the end. Movie. Movie means bad. If we add an e to the end, we get the feminine. Movies. Movies. Movie and movies both mean bad. How would you say the chicken is bad? Loop play a movie. In movie. The turkey is bad. Ladder and a movie is, a movie is 43. 5f - fantastique doesn't change: How would you say in French, Pierre is bad? Pierre a movie. A movie. Murray is bad. A movie is money in movies. So far, we've seen how for adjectives change if they're describing feminine nouns. The word bone, which means good, becomes bond. So it gets an N E on the end. Bone bond. The word daily steer, which means delicious, becomes deadly serious. So the x becomes an S. There, Listeria. They'll use the word buffet, which means perfect, just gets an E on the end. You pronounce the feminine version, Buffett. Buffet, Buffett. Similarly, the word movie, which means bad, gets an E on the end and you pronounce the feminine version, movies, movie, movies. So bone bond. Then you see the Buffy Buffett movie, movies. However, not all adjectives have a different feminine version, e.g. fantastic. Fantastic, which means fantastic, is used to describe both masculine and feminine nouns, and it doesn't change at all. This is because it ends in the letter E. And most adjectives in French that end in the letter e don't have a separate feminine version. So fantastic can be used to describe masculine nouns and feminine nouns. How would you say the chicken is fantastic? Loop will lay a fantastic, look, really a fantastic. How would you say the turkey is fantastic? Loudon, a fantastic, a fantastic. So you just use the word fantastic as it is to describe masculine words or feminine words. The general rule is if an adjective ends in the letter e, it won't have a separate feminine form 44. 5g - terrible: This next word is an adjective that is identical to the English word. You just pronounce it a little differently. Dairy blue, Delhi, you blew. It means terrible. Tv blue. And you'll notice that it ends in the letter E, which means it doesn't have a separate feminine form. So tell hablar means terrible when it's describing masculine nouns or feminine nouns. So how would you say in French, the restaurant is terrible. The home loan has to home. So in this lesson so far, we've had looked pulley, which means the chicken. Lot, downed, means the turkey. And law are the masculine and feminine versions of the word. The bone. And bone are the masculine and feminine words for good. That is, use the masculine and feminine words for Delicious. Now, that fit mean perfect in the masculine and feminine. Movie. And movies. The masculine and feminine words for bad and tell the blue means terrible. How would you say in French, the turkey is terrible? Letdown a deli, blue. Dan, a deadly Ebola. It's terrible here. Say terribly, terribly. See, I think it's absolutely terrible. Bomb what say absolute monetary blue? Moire. Say absolute monetary blue. It's always terrible here. To show terribly, terribly see 45. 5h - Food, glorious food: How would you say in French? It isn't perfect, but it isn't terrible. Sunni PayPal fee, Mason aid battery blue. Sunni PayPal fee. Mason, a battery blue. Food, glorious food. Now, if you go on holiday, I presume you'll want to order something other than chicken or turkey. So I've created a list of food related vocabulary for you to read through. I've called it a vocabulary expansion sheet. You can find it at the end of this course. Along with the sheet, you'll find some videos where I go through each word and show you how to pronounce it. I've tried to think of as many food or drink related items as I possibly could. But if you do find anything missing, let me know and I'll add it in. As you work through the three-minute French courses, you will find more of these vocabulary expansion sheets. And what that'll do is help you to add bulk to your French language. You have been building the structure of the French language with the words and phrases I've given you so far. And you can now decorate it and embellish it with the words from the vocabulary expansion sheet. Now, obviously, you shouldn't aim to try and learn every single word on the list as it wouldn't be very useful and it will take a very long time. Instead, start to build your own personal vocabulary by learning a few words you think you'll use regularly. E.g. if you really love cheese, you can find and learn the word love homage, which means the cheese. Add a few words every week or so. And pretty soon you will have a nice collection in your brain. Now, let's just have a quick recap of the words that we've learned in this lesson so we can go on and practice them. We've had looked Palais, which means the chicken. Gladdened, means the turkey. So we use extraordinaire for masculine and feminine nouns. What does this sentence mean? Ladder and a Baltimore lead on the Palmer. The turkey is for me to a to C to a to the hablar EC. Everything is always terrible here 48. 5k - Let's recap - English to French: Now let's do some recap translations to practice words and phrases that we learned in previous lessons. How do you say in French the chicken loop, pull a look pulley. The turkey. Lead and lead. And what are the two ways to say the, that we've learned so far? Puffy Parfit? The two different ways to say bad movie, movies. And how do you say terrible in French? Now here's your first word for this lesson. Mom. Mom. It means my mom. And it rhymes with the word for good bone. So it's got that nasal sound on the end of it. So it's not a MAN, But it's Mom. You sort of close your throat at the end. Mom. How would you say in French, my chicken is delicious. Monopoly a Dennis you, I'm on Palais. A dentist to my restaurant is here. More hostile home. Aec. More has the home. Aac. My chicken is here. Mom Palais, AEC, monopoly. Aac. My chicken is very good. Manipulate a table. Mom Palais, a table 52. 6b - l'hôtel: Now you might be able to guess what this next word means. Latte. Latte. It means the hotel lot. Then you might have noticed that there is a little L apostrophe in front of the word hotel. This is called a contraction. It's a short version of the word loop, which means that whenever you put the words law or law in front of a word that starts with a vowel or the letter H. In French, it becomes shortened to l apostrophe, like in this word, starts with an H. So we shorten the word, learn to l apostrophe. This is purely because lots sounds nicer than the French. Don't like that little glottal stop in-between the two words. Look, they prefer it all to glide together. Lot. So the words Lu and law, which mean the infringe shorten to l apostrophe when they're placed in front of a word that starts with the letter H or a vowel. There, the letters a, e, I, 0, and u. Did you also notice that there's a little accent on top of the 0 in. This accent is called a circumflex accent. And a circumflex accent doesn't change the way the letter is set at all. It's simply there to show that in the past, the letter used to be followed by an S. So in the past would have been lost or hostile. So it's actually a useful way to work out the meanings of some words. So you have the circumflex accent over the 0, which means it would have been Ofstead or hostile. Fourier. Fourier. Well, this means forest. And if you imagine putting an S after the E, you have the word forest. Got, got. Well, if you can imagine putting the letter S after the 0, we get cost or cost. Got means coast or orbital. Orbital. Well, you can imagine again an S after the 0, we get hospital or hospital. As you learn more French, you'll start to notice that accents can be placed on any of the vowels in French, a, e, I, 0, and u. Here are the three accidents that we've learned so far. We've learned the acute accent, which is placed on the letter E, and it goes from the bottom-left to the top right. We've seen a graph accent, and you can place the grave accent on the letters E, a, or u. And the Grob accent is sort of like the opposite way round to an acute accent. So it starts in the top-left and ends in the bottom right. And then a circumflex accent is sort of like a hat. And you can place a circumflex accent on an a, E, I, 0, or U. So the acute accent, the grave accent, and the circumflex accent. 53. 6c - tout le monde: How would you say in French? The hotel is very good. Hotel. The hotel isn't bad. Nipah movie, movie. Mahi, APL, sum to zero, ISI, mathy, APR, sum to zero. The turkey and the chicken, or for me, lead down a loop, play some Balmer. Lambda and a loop, pull a sum formula 72. 8c - le / la / les: How would you say in French the T and the coffee or for me to take a look at this on Baltimore, luh teh, a look at this on Baltimore. Sun means are. And the negative of song is Newsome. Knew Samba, which means on not Newsome far. I will just say in French, the T and the coffee aren't here. Let's take a look at Nissan, Pat, EC, latte, cafe, EC, Marie and Pierre aren't here. Marie, APR, mise-en-page, EC, mel, he, APF, Newsome, Pat EC. So far we've seen that the French have two words for the, they have low. And law means that in front of masculine nouns, and law means the in front of feminine nouns. Well, there is actually a third way. Lei. Lei. Lei is used when there is more than one of something is called the plural. E.g. lacked Tabula. In French, laptop blue means the table. But if there's more than one table, we say late, late Diablo. That means the tables, late tablet. So lei is used to mean the, when there's more than one of something, it's called the plural, the lay. We now have three different ways of saying the infringe. We have low, which is the masculine way of saying French. And actually we call it the masculine singular because you use it in front of nouns when there's only one of them. So it's a singular noun, la. La, la, which is the feminine singular word for the, we use it in front of feminine nouns when there's only one of them. And now we have Lei. Lei. This is the plural way of saying. It doesn't matter whether the noun is masculine or feminine. If there's more than one of it, you always use Lei. Lei is the plural, lot lay. They all mean the 73. 8d - plural: We've just seen that there are three ways to save that in French. Is the masculine singular. Law is the feminine singular, and lay is the plural. But what does the word plural actually mean? Well, plural is when there is more than one of something. In English, most of the time, if you want to make a noun plural, you just add the letter S to the end. E.g. the word chicken and table are both singular nouns. There's only one of each of them, chicken table. But if you want to make them plural, or you have to do is add the letter S to the end. So chicken becomes chickens. And then there's more than one of them. Table becomes tables. Most of the time. You can do this in French too. You just put an S on the end of the noun, and then you put the plural word for VR, which is lay in front of the noun, e.g. loop. Palais. Palais means the chicken. Well, we can make it plural and we say late Pooley, late bullae. So we've used the plural verb, and then we've added an S to the end of the noun. But don't forget that the S is silent, where it's on the end of a word in French. So look, bullae is the chicken, lay Pooley. The chickens lead and lead and means the turkey. So that's a singular nouns, only one of them. But we can make it plural by saying lay down, lay down, and we've used the plural word for the lay. And we've added the S to the end of dance. But again, it's silent in speech. You can only see it in writing. Laid down and the turkeys. Lowest or lowest at home, means the restaurant. Well, to make it plural, we just use the plural word for and then add the S to the end of a restaurant and we get lay Hester home, late, Lester home. And that means the restaurants, lay a restaurant. So here is a list of nine singular nouns. I don't want to see if you can make them plural. We've got locally, which means the chicken lead and the turkey means the restaurant. Look, that means the hotel. Look at fe, means the coffee. Latte is the T, laptop tablet, the table, lot Belsen, the person. And Latins, our ostium means the reservation. So pause this lesson, See if you can turn all those nine nouns plural, and then press play to see if you've got them right. So literally means the chicken lay Pooley. Palais means the chickens. Lay down, means the Turkey. Lay down. Lay down means the turkeys. Hasta home means the restaurant. Lehi stone means the restaurant's look. Look, that means the hotel. And even though here we've got an L apostrophe as the word for the, the plural word is still lay. So we get Lei. Lei hotel means the hotel's look at FEI look cafe means the Coffee. Lake cafe au lait coffee means the coffees. Latte means the TEA. Late day. Late day means the T's. So all we have to do is put an S on the end and we use the plural word for the last tabulae means the table. Late W means the tables. Lot Belsen means the person. And the plural of person in English is irregular. It becomes people. Well in French, or you have to do is add an S to the end and use the plural word for that. And so we get late. The axon, lay person, which means the people. And finally, La Raza, which means the reservation. Lay has ev, assume, layer has of assume means the reservations. To make most nouns plural in French, we have to do is use the plural word for that, which is lay. And then add an S to the end of the singular noun 74. 8e - plural adjectives: How would you say in French, the coffees are here. Liquor, Fei, some EC, Nee-Kofi, some EC. The restaurants are here. So EC, Lehi stone, some EC. Now, remember that I showed you how all adjectives have a feminine form that you have to use when you're talking about a feminine noun. E.g. puffy means perfect. And in the feminine, it becomes bad, fit. Or that is still means delicious. To make it feminine, you say Delhi Sears. Well, there are also plural forms of adjectives, and you use these To talk about plural nouns. And actually, each adjective in French has four different forms. I'll show you what I mean with the adjective bone, which means good luck play a bone. A bone means the chicken is good. So bone BON is the masculine singular form of the word good. Lad downed a bon, lead down a bond. The turkey is good. So BON, BON n e is the feminine singular version of the word good. So we've seen those two, bond and bond. Let's look at it in the plural. Late bullae, some bone, lip, some bone. So Palais is a masculine plural noun. And the word bone, spelled BON, S is the masculine plural version of the word good. So late police on bone means the chickens are good. Laid down some bone, laid down, some bond means the turkeys are good. So we have BON N, E, S, which is the feminine plural version of the word good. So we have bone is the masculine singular. Bond is the feminine singular. Bone with an S on the end is the masculine plural. And bond with an S on the end is the feminine plural. Then the four different forms of the word good infringe 75. 8f - adjective changes: Every single adjective in French has four forms. A masculine singular, feminine singular, and masculine plural, and a feminine plural. Let's go through and have a look at all the adjectives that we've learned so far in this course. And see there are four forms. So the word good is bone in the masculine singular, bond. In the feminine singular. Bone with an S on the end in the masculine plural, and bond with an S on the end in the feminine plural. The word for Delicious is daily sphere. In the masculine singular. Deadly serious. In the feminine singular. That is here in the masculine plural. So it's the same as the masculine singular. And then deadly serious is the same as the feminine singular, but it has an S on the end in the feminine plural. Fantastic. In the masculine singular. Fantastic again in the feminine singular, so there's no change. And then both plurals just have an S on the end, fantastic in the masculine plural and fantastic in the feminine plural. So actually, this adjective sounds the same no matter what form you're using. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. The word for beautiful in French is bu. This adjective actually changes quite a lot in the feminine. And the masculine singular. You have bot, and the feminine singular is bad. So it's be ELL ie. The masculine plural is the same as the masculine singular, but it has a letter x on the end. Bu. The feminine plural is the same as the feminine singular, but it has an S on the end. So boo. Boo are the four forms of the word beautiful in French, extraordinaire is the same in the masculine and feminine. The only difference for the plural is that you have to add an S to the end. So extraordinaire, extraordinaire, the masculine singular and feminine singular. Then extraordinaire with an S on the end can be used for the masculine plural and also the feminine plural. And this is another adjective where all four forms sound exactly the same. Extraordinaire, extraordinaire, extraordinaire, extraordinaire. The word for perfect is puffy. In the feminine, we get an e on the end Parfit, buffet for the masculine singular and Parfit for the feminine singular. And then the plurals, or you have to do is add an S on the end of the singular versions. The masculine plural is puffy with an S on the end, and the feminine plural is Parfit with an S on the end. So you have Puffy. Puffy Buffett. The word for bad is movie, and that's the masculine singular. The feminine singular just gains an E on the end movies. The masculine plural is movie exactly the same as the masculine singular. And the feminine plural gets an S on the end of the feminine singular. Movies, movie, movies, movie, movies. The word for terrible is terrible. And this is another adjective where all four forms sound identical. So the Leibler in the masculine singular is the same in the feminine singular, so it doesn't change at all. Then for the plural, or we do is add an S, TRE blue is the masculine plural, and tear. Hablar is the feminine plural. Delhi bla, bla, bla. And then finally, we have the word nice. And the word nice is actually the same in all four forms. So it's just some power. It doesn't change at all. Some, some, some, some power. So it's identical in all four forms. So that's adjectives. In French, you can have them masculine singular, feminine singular, masculine plural, feminine plural. The one you use depends on the noun that you're describing. 76. 8g - une carotte & un poireau: We've just seen that when you're talking about masculine nouns, you use the masculine singular or the masculine plural versions of the adjective. And when you're talking about a feminine noun, you use the feminine singular or the feminine plural versions of the adjective. E.g. look, lay a bone. The chicken is good. Lead down the Avon. The turkey is good. Leap bullae, some bone. The chickens are good. Lay down some bone. The turkeys are good. However, if you want to say something like the chicken and the turkey, oh good. Well, this has a mixture of a masculine and feminine noun. Whenever you're talking about a mixture of masculine and feminine nouns, the masculine plural adjective is always used. So you say Look Palais a lot and some bone. Loop will lay a light and some bone. So you use the masculine plural version of the adjective. And it doesn't matter if you have 100 feminine nouns and one masculine noun, you have to use the masculine plural version of the adjective. Now let's learn a few more nouns so that we can practice with the different adjective agreement rules. Here is a random feminine noun. In gout. You didn't get hot. It means a carrot. Carrot. So how would you say in French the carrot? Lock-out. Lock-out. So you use the feminine word for the How would you say the carrots? Liquor hot, leak out. How would you say the carrots are good? Liquor hot, some bone, like a hot, some bond. So we use the feminine plural version of the adjective, good, BON, Lake are hot, some bond. So that's a feminine noun. Let's have a look at a masculine noun. I'm at home. I'm Whitehall. It means a leak, as in the vegetable ampere Home. So how would you say in French the leak? Loop while, loop while. Now in the plural, the word hole doesn't gain an S. Instead it gains an x, so it's a little irregular. So how would you say in French the leaks? Lipo, Les Paul. So you don't pronounce the x just like you don't pronounce the S on the end of words in French. So late Whitehall. How would you say the leaks are good? Leap Whitehall, some bone, lipo, some bone. So we use the masculine plural version of the word good, because we're talking about a plural masculine noun, Lake, Tahoe, some bone 77. 8h - practise with plurals: Just like the word, the, the French word for my has three different versions too. We've already learned more. And we said that mom is the masculine singular word for my. Mom is the feminine singular word for my. Well, we've also got me. Me, which means my in the plural. Me. Me is the plural my. How would you say then in French, my carrots are delicious. Make a hot sun daily Sears. Make out some Denis yours. How would you say my leaks are delicious? May pothole Sunday lists. You may put a hole on delis here. Now, we've had a lot of information about singular, plural, masculine, feminine, and different adjectives and nouns. So let's do a quick test just to see how we're getting on learning it all. I'm going to give you eight sentences. And what I'd like you to do is to translate them all into French, but they're all going to be very similar sentences just with tiny differences in the adjective. Sentences are, my chicken is good, my turkey is good. My leaks or good. My carrots are good. The chicken here is good. The turkey here is good. The leaks here are good, and the carrots here are good. So pause this lesson, See if you can write down the French for those eight little sentences and then press play to see if you got them right. So my chicken is good. Well, chicken is a masculine singular noun. So you should say, mm, fillet a bone. A bone with the masculine singular version of good, BON, BON. My turkey is good. Well, Turkey is a feminine singular noun. So we say maddened, a bond, a bond. So that's the feminine singular version of the word good, bond, BON and E. My leaks are good. Well, we have a masculine plural noun. So we say may pothole, some bone, meet while some bone, using the masculine plural version of the word go to BON. My carrots are good. Well, carrots is a feminine plural noun in French. We say make a hot some bond, make a hot sun bond. So we use the feminine plural version of the word good bond, BON an ES. The chicken here is good. Look. You see a bone. Look Palais EC, a bone. So we use the masculine singular version, BON. The turkey here is good. Lad and EC, Avon, lady and EC, a bond. So we use the feminine singular version of the word could be 0 n, n e. The leaks here are good. Lipo, EC, some bone. Lake Tahoe is see some bone. So we use the masculine plural version of the word could be 0, ns, Les Paul II, see some bone. And then the carrots here are good liquor, hot EC, someone, like a hot EC, some bond. We use the feminine plural version of the word good, BON, N, E, S 78. 8i - mes: Don't lose sleep. This lesson has been full of little grammar rules. They aren't difficult to understand, but there are a lot to remember. However, I always say, don't lose sleep. I've introduced these grammatical structures very early on in the course, but I don't expect you to remember them all whenever you speak French. The reason I've introduced them now is because it's best to get them out of the way with early. And then the more you see them, the more you will remember them. The most important thing when speaking a foreign language is just making sure you understood. If ever you mess up a letter or use the wrong version of the As long as you're speaking and the other person understands what you are saying, it doesn't matter in the slightest. Worrying about these rules will only stop you from wanting to speak. But at the same time, knowing about them will make it easier in the long run. But as I said, don't lose sleep over them. Even the most fluent speakers makes a slip up with these rules now and again. So just learn them and then focus on the speaking. So in this lesson, we've had land new E2, which means the food. A, meaning and or C, which means also some. Meaning. Our Nissan par, which means are not. Lay, which is the plural. The Inca hot means a carrot, means a leak. Liquor hot means the carrots. You can use bonds where when you're arriving somewhere to say good evening, or if you see somebody in the street to say good evening, or even to say good evening when you're leaving somewhere. So you can say Botswana, when you're leaving a restaurant, e.g. to say, good evening. Most Wow. How would you say good evening? I'd like a table for three people, please. Here's another word that goes nicely with Goodnight. Oh, wow, wow. Which means goodbye of wow. So how would you say in French, goodbye and good night. A bond. A bond and UE. This next phrase, johnny bond. Johnny means Have a good day. Bond Johnny. Now the word johnny looks similar to the English word journey. It doesn't mean journey, but the two words are related. We actually get our word journey from the French word journey. The literal meaning of Johnny is the whole day. And in the olden days, journeys to take the whole day in horse and cards. So that's why we call them journeys. It is literally a trip that takes the whole day. So bonjour ni means Have a good day. Literally you're wishing someone the entire day to be good. So how would you say in French, goodbye and have a good day? A bone Johnny. Johnny. Here's a phrase that's similar to bonds on a bond. A bond Swahili. This one means Have a good evening. So swap is evening. Swap array literally means the whole evening. So one swap means, I hope your whole evening is good. But in English you can say, have a good evening. How would you say in French, goodbye and have a good evening? Of what? A bonsai. A wound swab 87. 9d - à bientôt: Let's look at one more greetings phrase. Ibm to be onto. We had, which was high, which means hello, good morning, good day or good afternoon. Botswana means good evening. Goodnight means goodbye. Bonds on a means Have a good day. One. Swati means Have a good evening. And I began to see you soon. I'll just quickly point out something interesting About module Botswana and bond Neue. You might have noticed that the word bone, which means good, appears at the start of banjo and Botswana. But then in front of bond Nui, we have bone spelled in the feminine version. And that's because your meaning day and swear, meaning evening are both masculine nouns. We use the masculine version of the word good, BON, but the word Nui, and also the word Johnny and swaggy or feminine nouns. So we use the feminine version of the word good, BON, ie. That's why bond Nui, bonjour ni. And bonds where hey, all have the feminine version of the word good at the start 88. 9e - Let's practise - English to French: It's time now to practice what we've been learning in this lesson. However, there are a few words that are either in the plural or they start with an L apostrophe, so you can't tell whether it's must. You know, for these words, I have placed a small addition to the end forwards, where you can't tell whether it's mustard or feminine.
