About This Class

The whole of the French language can be broken down into several different structures. If you take any sentence from any French book or any utterance, you will see that it fits into one of these structures.

I remember one weekend, I was writing some lessons for the week ahead, when I suddenly realised this. I noticed that there are a certain number of structures in French, and that every sentence follows one of these structures. I spent the rest of the weekend working out all the structures, and I wrote them all down.

Every structure you learn gives you the ability to say a huge amount. Some structures are used more than others, but all the structures together make up the whole French language. Once you’ve learnt how a structure works, all you have to do is insert different words into the slots and you have a sentence.

This course introduces you to structure 9. I’ve limited each course to one structure so as not to overburden you. By looking at just one structure at a time, you can really get to grips with it and understand its usage. It will help to clarify the French language and make it more like a reflex rather than something you have to think about as is it were a maths equation.

Each structure can also help to propel you to fluency; if you can manipulate the structures at high speed, you can start to say anything you want without having to thing about how to say it.

This course contains plenty of practice opportunities for you to revise what you’ve learnt and it also contains some hints and tips on how best to learn and memorise the structures and the vocabulary that goes with them. You’ll learn how to make questions out of structure 9, how to make statements and how to turn positive statements negative.

The Building Structures in French series is set out using the same learning techniques as the 3 Minute French courses. You can work through the course in three minute chunks, enabling anybody to learn French, no matter how little time you have.

PROGRESS TO THE NEXT COURSE

Once you have finished this course, you can continue onto the next course where you’ll learn all about structure 10 in French. Here are the links for all the Building Structures courses currently available on SkillShare:

1. Introduction to the course: Module AND Avenue. Hello and welcome to building structures in French, structure nine. I'm Karen and I'm a language tutor based in the UK. And I wrote this series of courses to help you learn to speak French. The whole of the French language is made up of a number of structures. And I remember one weekend I was writing some lessons for the week ahead. And I suddenly realized this. I noticed that there are a certain number of structures in French, and that every single sentence follows one of these structures. I spent the rest of the weekend working out all of the structures and I wrote them all down. Once you know what all the structures are, you can begin to learn them. And every structure you learn gives you the ability to say a huge amount in French. Certain structures are used more than others. But all the structures together make up the entire French language. Once you've learned to structure, all you have to do is insert different words into the slots and you have a sentence. Learning these structures can help to propel you to fluency. Because if you can manipulate the structures at high-speed, it means you can say anything you want without having to think about how to say it. In this course, we're going to learn all about structure nine. If you've already learned structures one to eight using the building structures in French series, then you will recognize the method used in this course to remember to limit your study time to chunks of just 3 min. Because if you keep your study sessions short, three amazing things will happen. Firstly, you'll maintain enthusiasm. Secondly, you'll be more consistent in your studying and consistency is the key to success. And thirdly, you will find that you remember things much more easily. So let's begin and learn structure nine in French. 2. 1 - structure 9 outline: Structure nine is very similar to structure seven. In structure seven, all the verbs were in the conditional tense. But in structure nine, we're going to be putting all the verbs in the future tense. This ninth structure is very easy to grasp once you have the future tense clear in your mind, which we shall look at in a moment. It consists of just two parts, and here is an example of it in use. Modular, a module level. It means what will you eat, good or evil? And it consists of a question word, in this case, Kou, meaning what. Then inverted future tense verb. Manager level, meaning will you eat? Good. So the first part of structure nine, as always, is simply the question word. And since we've seen them many times now, you'll already know them. But here they are, just to refresh your memory. How do you say in French, where? What at what time? When cone. How? Como. Which? Why? How many or how much? Colombia. How long, or how much time. Going beyond the tongue, who or whom. Key. So what we can now do with this ninth structure is start to build up questions using the two parts, question word and the inverted future tense. We can change either of the two parts in this structure. E.g. we can change the question word. So we've had, good morning. Hey woo. Woo, which means what you eat. But instead of saying cook at the start, we could change it to 0 and we get more general level. Monitoring level. Where will you eat? Or we could change it to come. Which means when a Woo Commerce caribou, when will you eat? Just like with the other structures, you can change the question word without having to change any of the rest of the question. The module, a viewport didn't change just because we changed the question where they start. Commercial rival. What will you eat? Will monitor a Whoo. Where will you eat? Commons or evil? When will you eat? 3. 2a - what is the future tense?: We've just seen that there are two parts to structure nine. They were the question word and then the inverted future tense. And we know the question was, but what about the inverted future tense? And never mind an inverted future tense. What is the future tense? Well, the future tense in English is formed by putting the word will in front of a verb. E.g. I. Will eat. You will go. They will leave. He will buy. She will stay. In French. It's a little bit trickier. In French, we have to add some letters to the end of the verb to form the future tense. You can say I will in French by putting the word, meaning I in front of the verb and putting the letters on the end of the verb. E.g. if we take the verb, which means to eat, we put a in front of it and hope that that is AI. On the end, we get Jamal, Jamal J. And that means I will eat. Here's your parallel ray, is your palette. I will speak. You finish your Finney High. I will finish. Your show today. Is you're shown today. I will sing jQuery. Jquery. I will write you Patty is your battery. I will leave. You simply take the verb, put in front of it. And then the next is AI on the end of it. And it means I will. So Jumana survey Japan. You finish your pattern. You can recognize the sounds and you'll know it always means I will, I will eat, I will speak, I will finish. I will think, I will write, I will leave. 4. 2b - forming the future tense: You might recognize the AI on the end of the future tense verbs that we've looked at so far. We've seen the combination of Zhou and AI before when we had J. J, which means I have in the past tense in French, you have to use I have as the first part, and then you put that in front of the past participle. Well, for the future tense, what you actually do is you take the verb and then you put on the end of it. So you take any verb like Mozi and you put a tie on the end of it and you have, will eat your module. I will eat. It works for other persons to, let's just remind ourselves of how to conjugate have in French in the present tense. So we have j, which means I have two. Two-hour means you have ILA. Ila means he has ala. Ala means she has. Ana. Ana means one-halves. News iPhone. New davon means we have with IV was a. V. Means you have zone, is zone. Means they have. A zone. Is zone means they have in the feminine. The words for have are the bits that go on the end of the verb in the future tense. E.g. two-hour means you have. And if you want to form the future tense and say you will, in French, you put two in front of the verb, and the a s goes on the end of the verb. E.g. cheap alcohol to Palo means you will speak to you. If you want to say he will. You put in front of the verb, and then you put the letter a on the end of the verb because ELR means he has. So you would say Pandora, he will speak. The only two exceptions for this, or we will end, you will. If we have a look again at the conjugation of APA, you'll see we have news for, we have and with away for you have. If you want to say we will, you put new in front of the verb, but you don't put Avon on the end of the verb, you just put 0 ns. Similarly, if you want to say you will with whom? You put in front of the verb, and you just put the E on the end of the bed instead of IV. So you will get things like new Palo, whole new Palo on. Meaning we will speak wu Wei, wu Palo. You will speak. 5. 2c - future tense endings: So here are the future tense endings. If you have leisure, then you put a tie on the end of the verb. And that means I will for to report a S on the end of the verb. And that means you will, for you put an a on the end of the verb. And that will mean he will. For x, you put an a on the end of the verb. And that means she will fall on. You put an a on the end of the verb. That means one wheel. For new. You put 0 ns, the end of the verb. That means we will. For womb. You put E on the end of the verb. And that means you will. For meaning they, you put ON T on the end of the verb. And that means they will. Then for the feminine word for V, you also put ON T on the end of the verb, and that means they will, in the feminine say you can put those endings onto the ends of any verbs. But just remember that if you're using an RA verb, you have to take off the e first. Let's look at the verb barely, which means to speak. Conjugated into the future tense. We get Egypt pallor. Pallor, meaning I will speak to you, will speak it. Pallor. Pallor. He will speak paler. And paler. She will speak. On Pamela. Pamela one will speak new pylon. New pylon. We will speak. Woo, woo palette. You will speak and pallor. Pallor home, meaning they will speak. So the endings for future tense are you add AI to, you, add AS ill, you add a L, you add an a on, you add an a new, you add OLS, woo, you add easy. Ease. For vague. You add 0 n t. 6. 2d - faire & venir: Now the feature tense is a nice tense in that there aren't too many irregular verbs. However, there are nine that I recommend you learn. But you'll notice that we've actually seen them all before. The nine irregular verbs that we learned in structure seven. When we looked at the conditional tense, or also the irregular verbs in the future tense. The irregular stems are exactly the same for the future as they were for the conditional. So the first irregular is fair. Fair, which means to do or to make the future stem. That means what you add the endings two is F. So in the future we get is your filet. I will do or I will make to fill her. To fill her. You will do or you will make it feel her for her. He will do, or he will make alpha. Alpha. She will do. Or she will make her. For her. One will do, or one will make loafer home. We will do, or we will make woof. Woof of you will do, or you will make and ill for home. For home. They will do, they will make. The second irregular verb is veneer. Veneer means to come. The future stem is spelled V. E and D are V and say you can put the future tense endings onto the end of that stem. And we get uv. Andre is UV and by meaning, I will come to the Andhra. To the Andhra. You will come if the Andhra, If the emperor, he will come. Llvm, VM. She will come on Bianca. Bianca. One will come. Movie Anton Luby, and we will come. Vivian play the Andrei. You will come and they will come. That's veneer in the future tense. So the first irregular was fair with the stem. For. The second irregular is veneer with the stem V, E, NDR, VN. 7. 2e - voir: The next irregular verb is y, which means to see where the future stem is V0 or are there. So we get Zhu very juvenile. Meaning I will see 22. You will see he will see L Vera. She will see on Vera. Vera one, we'll see nouvelle homme, nouveau home. We will see wu Wei. Wu Wei. You will see and eat their own. They will see. That's the verb. Meaning to see. The next irregular verb is SAE, which means to try in French. And this one isn't that irregular. The only thing that happens is the letter Y becomes an I before you add the endings on. So it's ESS, AI, ER. And then you can add the future tense endings to that. And you get, just say, Hey, just say right. I will try to SAR. Sar. You will try elastase. Elastase. He will try SAR. Sar. She will try on SAR, SAR. One. We'll try a new. They say home. We will try the survey. The survey. You will try and stay on. They will try. So it's not that irregular, is just the y in SAA becomes an I. A similar thing happens with this next verb, which means to pay. The y in the future stem becomes an I. So you get, you pay, you pay. I will pay. To pay her to pair. You will pay if they if they are. He will pay pay. Pay her. She will pay on pay her on page one will pay new home, new pattern. We will pay wu Wei. Wu Wei. You will pay and it burn down. They will pay. 8. 2f - envoyer: The next irregular verb is on YA, which means to send. The future stem is unfair. It's about E V E R. So in the future tense, we get John, hey, John Jay. I will send to own velar to unveil. You will send Elon Elon Villa. He will send a long a long Vera. She will send over her on omega. One will send new zone veil on news on vellum. We will send a war zone where you will send its own vale home is on their home. They will send the vet we've had so far aren't too irregular. You can still recognize where they come from. But now we have a few verbs that are very irregular. Verb, which means to go in the future becomes E, IR is the stem. And so we can add the endings onto that. So we get J, J, I will go to ER. You will go. He will go. She will go. On. Only. One will go. New Zealand. New Zealand. We will go woozy array. The array you will go. And easier on is their home. They will go. Then we have the verb, which means to have the feature stem is a, you are pronounced. In the future tense we get a visual high, meaning. I will have to or her, or her. You will have ILA. Ila. He will have a Lora L or she will have on ANOVA. One will have Nuzzo Hong, neutral Hong. We will have whose? Oh, hey, hey, you will have. And the Zohar is on. They will have. 9. 2g - ĂȘtre: The final irregular verb for the future is eta, which means to be, the future stem of eta is SER. So we get just so high, is just too high. Meaning I will be to sell her. To sell her. You will be ISA, means he will be. And so her she will be. Also one will be new Soho, new home. We will be booster, hey, Jay means you will be, and so on. So on. Is they will be. So that's the nine irregular verbs. In the future tense. We need to know is the stem rarely because you add the normal future tense endings to the stem. So we had fare, which means to make or to do. And the stem is spelled FAR. Veneer means to come. And the stem is v and v, e and d are of y, means to see the stem. Is there. Ver. Sae means to try. And the stem is the same as the book. The letter Y changes to an eye. The same goes with the next verb, meaning to pay the why in pH changes to an I and then you have the future stem. On YJ. Means to send. The stem is unfair. U0 and v0. I lay means to go. And the stem is just IR, ir. Then what it means to have. And the stem is a EUR. And eta means to be and the stem is SER. Say you can add the future tense endings to any of those stems and you get the future tense in French. For structure nine, the second part is an inverted future tense verb. And if you look at all the future tense verbs, we've just gone through, you'll notice that there are two words, a subject pronoun and the verb. To invert them just means to switch them around. If you had woo, woo pastor ray, it means you will spend, well, we can invert the two words or switch them around and we join them together with a hyphen and we get pesto pasta. And that means with you spend. So how would you say in French, where will you eat? Modular had to marginal revenue. 10. 2h - future tense questions: How would you say in French, what will he order? Cook them on data. Could come on. Which cake will later I getting Ghetto until I can get to quantify. How long will you spend in France? Pastor at your homes? Columbia undertone pastor, I won't force how will you pay? Come on p-hat to come on. What will they do? Good for hunting? Good for Huntington? Whom will you see? Kiva, Key variable. Where will we go? Who knew? Who knew? Where will she hire a car? Lower head, tail in what you all do, I tell you in what Syria. When will they go out Consulting Satyam till what will she try? 11. 3a - extra information : Just like with structures one to eight, you can also add extra information such as nouns or adjectives or time words to the end of any structure nine sentence. E.g. goofy hat to have XR. Khufu had to accept. What will you do with that? Lula had to invite you to tune, what's your why will you hire a car? You had to own backbones. Who had two icons? Where would you go on holiday? So here are some extra information. Where's that you could use to add to the end of your structure nine sentences. La. La means they're Shi Wu or ****. Twa means at home or literally at yours. I, 0 means at work. Electron J. J is abroad. I looked at the hotel to Paris or in Paris on farms. And farms means to France or in France. Or Hassan has to go home at the restaurant or to the restaurant. Luckily, luckily, the chicken lumen TO who's lumen tools? The red coat. Mba, MBA. A ticket for Pierre. Both PF for Pierre. Isi. Isi means here. And on barcodes, on the cones means on holiday. But obviously that's just a few extra information, whereas the list is endless so you can add anything to the end of your structure, nine sentences. How would you say in French, what will you do with my car? Could feel her to evict them Ofwat's, you could fill a rule of ECMO B2. What will you buy for Pierre? Cache that tuple Pierre. Pierre. 12. 3b - practice sentences with extra information: How would you say in French, where will he eat in Paris. Apache module. Where will she go on holiday? And icons. Icons. What will they do here? Good Will Hunting, see frontiers, DC. What will you see at the cinema Gouverneur to, or cinema cuvette a boo or cinema. What will you do tonight after dinner? Good for you. So swag upgraded in a Goodfellow who says, wow, I clearly the knee. When she arrived in Spain. Spaniel, Calm on Hispania. Which film will we see? Good feeling? Guilt film. Which train will they take to London? Good time point, t is alone. Time point. When t is alone her. How long will he spent abroad? Zhe can be undertone pass electrons. 13. 4a - manipulating structure 9: You can manipulate structure nine in many different ways. E.g. you can take certain bits out to make different types of question. Let's see what happens when you don't put a question where I start. How do you say in French? Will you eat more Java to modulate, who will they eat the pizza? Module, haunted la pizza module, Juan de la, la pizza. Will you pay the bill? They had to pair a Wu lady soon. Will he buy some cheese for me? You for March Baumol. I shade the high team before March Baumol. Will she go to Paris? You had a battery. He had a party. Will he order some water for the table? Komodo. Do low Paula tabular. Komodo tab you. Will they come with us on TVC knew the cantilever. Will you do something for me? Feel how do you keep it shows point. Where will she be their hotel? La la. 14. 4b - inverting the future tense: The future tense is made up of two words, the pronoun and the verb. E.g. wu, Wei. Wu Wei, which means you will eat, is made up of the pronoun and the verb modular. Modular way. As we have seen, you can turn this tenth into a question pretty easily. Have to do is swap the pronoun with the verb, which is called inverting, and put a hyphen in the middle. So re means you will eat more than a boo. Boo means when you eat. So if we had huge image array, meaning I will eat, you can make it into a question by saying modulation. Modulation. Will I eat? To monitor? To monitor means you will eat. And if we invert them, we get modular had to modular h2. Which means just like with some of the other structures, you have to add an extra t in the middle if you want to invert with ill or e.g. in majora, in Modula means he will eat. If you want to make it into a question, you have to say majority. Majority. Will he eat? So we add the t in the middle. Otherwise we have e glottal stop in the middle. Manager hat is something that they like to avoid in French. So Monica had the same width, L. L. L means she will eat. Modular hotel. Modular hotel. Will she eat? And also the same with almost means one will eat. And as a question we say marginal had Tom atan, which means we'll want eat. New module, whole new module, home means we will eat. That's a question we get module, whole new module. Will we eat? Vamos array? J means you will eat. And as a question, mosaic model a Wu, will you eat? Module on. In Module means they will eat. And module one. Module on till means will they eat. So all you have to do is invert the subject pronoun with the verb. And if you're using E, L, or on, then you have to put that little T in the middle just to make the two words liaise together a bit more easily. So rather than saying module is a modular. 15. 4c - using names: In the future tense, you can use a name with the he or she version of the verb, e.g. Pierre. Pierre monitor means Pierre will eat Marie. Marie. Marie will finish. If you want to invert these, where you have to do is use the normal he or she inversion and you just put the name at the start. E.g. Pierre. Pierre, most of us. Will Pierre. Mary Mary Phoenix hotel. Will Marie finish? The same goes, if you're using more than one name, you just use the forms of the future tense. E.g. Pierre, MRE module on PRA multi module. That means Pierre and Marie will eat. And to make it into a question, Pierre MRA module until PRA Marie Mandanten. Will Pierre and Marie eat? So how would you say in French, what we'll find? Could Pierre, who could Pierre provocative? What will Sophie and Michelle eat in France? Let's just have a quick recap of structure known as a question. So it consists of two parts, e.g. could modulate means, what will you eat is made up of the question word in this instance, meaning what. And then an inverted future tense verb, module a BU, which means when you eat. You can also add some extra information and say something like cook module a boo or histo home. Good morning on a boo or has the home, which means what will you eat at the restaurant? To use this structure when you're not asking a question is quite simple. You just take the question word off and flip the inverted future tense verb around. Let me show you what I mean. Let's compare a question and a non question in the structure nine format. Module quantile. Quantile means, where will they eat? Well, if we take the AU away from the start and flip the module home and the yield around, we get ill mojo home, e.g. in Module home, EC, emotional quantity, they will eat. Hear the phrase module haunted means will they eat? And ill module home means they will eat. Some more examples are ill, wow, wow, home. They will drink. Eat better home. Avik Pierre. Pierre. They will speak with Pierre. Logisim. Pay home, ladies theorem. They will pay the bill. How would you say in French, she will buy something here for Pierre. See Poppaea. I said the hackett Good shows. You see poor Pierre. They will buy some wine. Is I shut the Han UVA is actually at the Honduran. I will see Marie. You very much. Thank you very much. 28. 6b - "when" + future tense: We've just looked at these three sentences. I shatter hockey shows a CPO, Pierre. Pierre, which means she will buy something here for Pierre, is a shuttle, Honduran is a shutter Honda. They will buy some wine. Java, Hey Maggie, because you're very mathy. I will see Murray. But you can expand on those sentences by using the word calm in French, which means when. The only trouble is, it's used a tiny bit differently to how we use it in English. In English, you can use the word when followed by the present tense, even if it's referring to a future action. E.g. she will buy a souvenir when she goes to Paris. We say she goes, which is the present tense, even though it's talking about a future action. Well, in French, that's not quite how they do things. Instead, you would say, she will buy a souvenir when she will go to Paris, which is a souvenir, can tell you about a **** on souvenir. She will buy a souvenir, come apart when she will go to Paris. So you have to put the future tense after gone. In French. If it's referring to a future action, she will buy a souvenir when she goes to Paris is what we say in English, British, and French. We say she will buy a souvenir when she will go to Paris. Another example is they will order a bottle of wine when they are at the table. So in English we say when they are, they are, is the present tense when they are at the table. But in French, you would say When they will be at the table, come on the home tab. Come on. Don't you rotate the oven, continues to home a laptop. They will order a bottle of wine when they will be at the table. I will see Marie when she comes to work. Again in English, she comes is the present tense. I will see Marie when she comes to work. But in French you have to say, I will see Marie when she will come to work. Is you very much contained v and u, v, Hey Marie contain the AMPA or TBI. So you can use a structure nine sentence that uses the future tense with the word calm. And then any verb that comes after con. If it's referring to a future action, has to be in the future tense. Whereas in English, we use the present tense in that instance. 29. 6c - practising with "quand" and "si": Another way that we can enhance our structure nine sentences, is by using the word c. Which means if you can join together a structure nine sentence with a structure to sentence. If you use the word see in the middle, structured to was the present tense, we use the word see in exactly the same way as we use the word if in English. So you can use a future tense and then the word F or C, and then a present tense, e.g. she will buy something here for Pierre if she has enough money. In French, you would say your show DC Poppaea, see alar as say diversion. Illustrator, hacker shows you see Poppaea see LRC downward. They will buy a pizza if they want to eat something. Is a chateau. In pizza. Silver mosaic LCA shows is acetone in pizza, silver mosaic and good shoes. They will buy a pizza if they want to eat something. Or I will see Marie if she's working here today. You very much Cl tab I ISI or should we use Marie CL to have IEC? Or should we? Let's practice using the words come and see in French? News I shut the whole answer. All super mouseY still overall began to lose acetone or Superman. She began to say the word c can shorten to S apostrophe if you place it in front of the word. So see if eight or if he becomes seal, Seal young too. If it opens soon. And we use for it in this sentence because it's referring to the supermarket, which is a masculine noun there in French, you refer to the supermarket as he. 30. 6d - practising with "quand" and "si": How would you say in French? We will buy that at the supermarket when it opens. New that shadow on all Superman. She knew that shadow Ansar or super mouseY continue. So after the word when it's referring to a future action, then you have to use the future tense in this sentence when I find something interesting. Or what you literally mean is when I will find something interesting corners, you can shows dental Hassan. I'll watch the film with you when I finished my work together. A visit to home, the home country, the amassed C visit or Honda has the Hong Kong IA, Hong MLC. Literally you're saying they will visit the restaurant when they will go to more, say in English, we say when they go to Marcy. But in French you say When they will go to Marcy is your home time. I'll say. What will she have? Go ahead. Go ahead. Del. Which car will be higher? Given what? You know? Whom will you visit in Marcy? Key visitor h2, amassed. C. Key visitor, who amassed? Container beta-hat on phones, who have quantile EBITDA on fonts. So in English we say when he lives in France, but because it's referring to a future action, you say in French, when he will live in France going on in class. 42. 8a - turning it all negative: There is one more useful thing that we can do to structure nine quite easily. And that is, make it negative. In English, you can change the structure from positive to negative. Quiet easily. E.g. will you do that? Becomes, won't you do that? Will he stay here? Becomes won't he stay here? Will they eat this? Becomes, won't they eat this? As you can see in English, it's simply a matter of changing the word will to wound. Well, it's almost as simple in French. We have to do to turn the future tense verb negative is put the word in front of it and the word path after it. Just note that the word no, any become shortened to N apostrophe when it's placed in front of a word that starts with a vowel. So bad I had to. Palo h2 means with you speak. Well in the negative we say Nevada had 2D bar Nepantla, that UPA, which means, Won't you speak? Let's have a look at some future tense question phrases and see if you can turn them negative. So we have modular h2, which means when you eat, means will he drink? Commodity? Will you order? Patty haunted? Will they leave Vienna hotel? Will she come and pay a whole new when we pay? So pause this video, see if you can turn those six verbs, negative. And also put what they mean in English, and then press play to see if you got them right. So Marshall had two means. Will you eat the negative, you get pneumonia. Pneumonia that UPA won't you eat? Means will he drink? No. Nib. Why won't he drink? Commander in Wu means will you order Nakamoto a Bupa? Bupa. Won't you order? Patio quantile means will they leave? Nope. Patio until new patio until they leave. The hotel? Is will she come knew the Andhra Delta nu, the young adult. When she come and pay a whole new means, will we pay? No, pay a whole new path? No pay a whole new path when we pay. So you simply put the word no in front of the verb and then put after the phrase and you get the negative in French. 43. 8b - "it won't work": There's a weird thing about the negative word wound in English. Sometimes you might see sentences like this. My car won't start. He won't help me. She won't do it. They won't come. All of these sentences are using the future tense in English, but they're not talking about future actions. They're talking about the present tense. E.g. my car won't start is saying that your car right now refuses to start. In French. You wouldn't use the future tense to translate these sentences. If you're using the word won't in English to talk about something or somebody refusing to do something, you can use the verb in the present tense in French instead. Vulva means to want. E.g. if you want to say, my car won't start in French, what you would literally say is, my car doesn't want to start. My watch. You knew the pandemic.
