DIY No Wax Candle

DIY No Wax Candle

Make a candle at home with no wax. It burns for 40 hours and will make your apartment smell amazing!

What You'll Need:

  • Jar (Bonne Maman jam jars work great!)
  • Vegetable Shortening
  • Crayons
  • Scented Essential Oil
  • 100% Cotton String
  • Scissors
  • Nut (hardware)
  • Skewer Stick

  1. Clean and dry a clear jar to hold the candle in
  2. Fill jar with vegetable shortening and leave about 1 inch of space at the top
  3. Microwave the jar for 2 minutes to melt the vegetable shortening
  4. Melt crayons in the microwave, pour in the jar, and mix to add color to the candle
  5. Add a tablespoon of scented essential oil
  6. Cut about 1 foot of the cotton string
  7. Tie one end of the string to a nut
  8. Drop the nut in the center of the jar and loop string around the skewer to set the wick
  9. Freeze for thirty minutes
  10. Cut string to leave about 1/4 inch of the string for the wick
