Rose Chafer mixed media drawing

Loved working on this project! I decided to draw a rose chafer (cetonia aurata), since it has such beautiful colours. My references were photographs and a specimen in Lucite (the terrible phone picture doesn't do it justice, it's way more vibrant in reality).
After sketching out the beetle, I decided on which media I wanted to use; Rembrandt watercolours, Caran d'Ache watersoluble pencils, Faber-Castell polychromos colour pencils and the micron pigma brush for black details.
I then went on to produce a set of watercolour swatches of the watercolour set I'd be using (making these combined really well with catching up on some netflix series (: )
afterwards, I made the swatches in the exercise, to get a better feel of the different media I'd be using (apologies for the terrible photograph, it's evening over here right now):
After these were done, I started working on the drawing again, first blocking in some of the really black parts. Then I added a watercolour wash, which I might have overdone a bit, but I just love these colours and got carried away. Oh well.
After the watercolour, I added some additional colour nuances and details with watersoluble pencil and then went in with the polychromos which have these beautiful strong colours. Some more final touches with the micron pen and this was the result:
Thank you for yet another great class Kendyll, I really enjoyed it! Any feedback is of course more than welcome :D
