10 Exercises

Exercise 1: Not going to lie. I used this one to indulge in my love of highlighters. Recently, I have been into excessively bright colors, which presented a way to use them.
Exercise 2: I've done this a few times and I generally struggle with it because my hands tend to lift off the page naturally. So instead of doing something ambitious, I went with multiple small drawings. I think the skull might have been an outstanding success.
Exercise 3: This isn't a real place yet, but it does contain aspects of past places I've lived and future aspects that I'd like to have. I mean... what is safer than cozy blankets, art supplies, and more books than you have shelves?
Exercise 4: Fun fact- I broke my arm (due to my own stupidity) quite a bit as a kid, which meant I spent a lot of time learning to and writing with my opposite hand. I haven't done it in more years than is worth mentioning, but it did make me feel less uncomfortable with this.
Exercise 5: I have a love-hate relationship with this one. I find small work like this tedious, BUT I loved some of the drawings that came out of it, especially the ghosts that kept popping up. Not all of them fit in the picture below but a good number of them did.
Exercise 6: While I'm not a fan of this sort of thing in general (mostly because I tend to smear things), it was pointed out to me that this came off as one of those 3d or glitch pictures, and I just love that.
Exercise 7: The need for Autumn hit me hard and I had no choice but to turn my random cut-out shapes into ghosts. Personally, I love my skater ghost. I wanted to fill the empty space so I figured pumpkins made perfect sense with the ghosts.
Exercise 8: I'm not going to lie. I hate all things timed. I am slow and methodical about things like this and timed challenges drive me insane. So, to fill the page and for my own sanity, I tried redrawing some of them without the time just to see that I could do better.
Exercise 9: I love the idea behind this one. It is really good for studies and that sort of thing. It also points out just how rigid I am in my thinking because I really couldn't think of that many different ways to draw a pumpkin... and yes, the fall vibes are still strong.
Exercise 10: This may be one of my favorite things I've done for this class. Clearly not really abstract... more like abstracted. Still, I wanted to play with layers and see if I could come up with something and I stuck with a shape I use all the time. The only adjustment I might make is putting a dark wash along the edges so the lightest part is in the center which was my intention.
