Creative Drawing: Creature Collage

I really enjoyed this class because it taught me how to draw from the inside out. Instead of starting with a perfect plan, I learned to build a background from my imagination using loose line markings, textures, and shapes that appeared as I worked. Those marks slowly turned into a space where my images could live.

Drawing the objects and collage pieces was a mix of observation and intuition. I paid attention to details, but I also let memories and personal moments guide what showed up — like how the bee and motorcycle reminded me of getting stung on my arm years ago. Putting everything together felt like connecting the outer world with the inner one.

Below is the process of drawing the collage pieces that were meaningful to me. After rearranging them, the final project naturally communicated a memory of being stung by two bees while riding a motorcycle, and since then carrying an awareness of that moment. It’s one of those small, sharp experiences that stays in the body. The collage reflects that feeling — motion, vulnerability, alertness, and the sudden intrusion of nature into a human moment.
