Sketchbook Magic II: Inviting the Muse
Practice 1: Warm Up Exercises
For this first exercise I wanted to do mine with pens and focus on greyscale so for seven days in a row (with the help of the magic bowl) I made quick 10-15 minute warm up sketches. I tried to focus a lot on line weight and playing with negative space. Some of these are defiantly much better than others but I had a lot of fun seeing what I could do in 15 minutes.
Practice 2: Connect With Your Joy
For connecting with what I love I decided to go with what started my artist journey way back in elementary school, Pokemon! I haven't done any fan art in quite a while so this was a ton of fun to make! Unfortunately the Copics I used bled through to the next page so they might need more thought into what pages I can use them on.
Practice 3: Artist Date
For this assignment I made an appointment to visit a local nursery and bought a few plants for my room and patio. The previous assignment did bleed through a bit but I tried to play with gouache a bit more. I'm definitely still learning how they work but practice makes perfect.
Practice 4: Honor the Seasons
To honor the seasons I decided to try and make one drawing with multiple mediums. There was a slight problem with some gray ink spilling but with exception to that each square is made entirely with a different medium. Top row is Pen, Colored Pencil, Copic Marker, and Washi Tape. Bottom row is, Paint Pens, Ink, Highlighter, and Gouche. I really enjoyed playing with washi tape more than I thought I would and may try and do a whole picture with them sometime.
Practice 5: Calling It In!
Lastly I did the letter to inspiration, I really love art that's drawn on top of pages in a book so tried to go with that idea with this final page. I really love how this one turned out the gray shading really makes the sketch pop out, and it makes me want to try taking this idea and expanding it to more than a sketch.
I feel really great having finished this course and can't wait to move on to Sketchbook Magic III!
