Narrative Pattern

I don’t have photoshop, but still wanted to play around with a narrative pattern. I combined Nina’s diamond pattern class (which really got me started with my love of pattern making and is a fabulous class), but I had to take it further because I didn’t want to have just one “scene” in my diamond.

I’m going to get better at showing my process so I tried to document my process. I started off thinking about two places I want to visit and settled on Positano, Italy. I didn’t really stick to too much of a limited palette, but the idea was there lol.

I really love the addition of the shell but it was still too repetitive.

This is me testing out adding more elements and I really had to use my brain to figure out how to add more elements in the empty spaces. I don’t think I typically have the kind of thinking to solve such a dilemma, but I figured it out eventually.

Finally it all worked out! It’s a little busy and I probably could have spent more time refining my illustrations, but over all I’m pleased at this result! I like the idea of telling a story through a pattern and definitely will continue working on narrative patterns!
