Monochrome Portrait Study
Fantastic class! This was a great way to study the light and form for portrait work. Working in both graphite, then monochrome on toned paper really helped me to better understand the way the light was informing the structure of the face. I think I will probably try the next class in the series and try this portrait in color as well. I feel much better prepared for it now.
Here is my graphite pencil study:

For my monochrome portrait study, I started with a waterproof ink pen sketch using a Faber-Castell Pitt Pens in sanguine and sepia. I used the sketch Evgenia provided and transferred it to my paper by tracing with a light pad. Then I painted over the whole paper with Acryl Gouache (Turner's) in burnt sienna.

And here's my final portrait, I used Holbein watercolor in white and black.

I feel like I might have overdone it a little bit with the white on the face, I would prefer to see a little more of the midtone from the paper. But overall I'm very pleased with the end result and definitely can see how valuable the studies can be to portrait work.
Thank you Evgenia! I love your classes.
