Jellyen- Knowing my art!

Firstly, I have to thank you, Tom, for providing such a detailed course. After completing these lessons, I've realized some mistakes I made previously when working with my clients. I didn't use a clear presentation deck or offer clear layers, and I even sent out rough sketches to my clients—OMG! But now, I've noted all these down and will immediately work on improving them. Thank you, Tom!

Below, I attempted to complete the project. However, I discovered that I'm not yet confident enough to answer some questions effectively :-( . Nevertheless, this has shown me areas where I need to improve.

Please feel free to give some advice. Thank you!

  • Visual Description of Art: I often use digital media as my primary medium. I enjoy bright color combinations, particularly the mix of yellow and blue. The details in my work are not overly refined; instead, they evoke a spirited and somewhat naive feeling. My artwork features a hand-drawn texture with rich patterns.

  • Emotional Impact of Art: I would describe my artwork as warm and vibrant. It often creates a sense of intimacy with the viewer. I prefer to paint positive and cheerful scenes.

  • Conceptual Approach of Art: My work tends to depict scenes from everyday life. I enjoy portraying visible objects, as I find abstract art challenging despite my interest in experimenting with it. I also like to imbue my paintings with narratives. Currently, my focus leans more towards photography than creativity, an area I feel I need to strengthen.

  • Suitability of Illustrations: My illustrations are best suited for children's books and products geared towards parents and infants, or collaborations with cute brands. They are ideal for showcasing personal style but not suited for serious art museums

  • Artistic Process: I exclusively use Procreate for my work. A complete piece usually takes me between two to four weeks from initial inspiration to final draft. Whether conceptualizing the composition, sketching, or coloring, each step presents its big challenges to me.

  • Work Pace and Conditions: I work at a slow pace. I haven't yet discovered my 'sweet spot' for efficiency, but I hope to find it soon. As for conditions, I find a balance between working alone and amidst conversation; sometimes chatting helps me immerse deeper into my art, while other times it can be distracting. I enjoy painting while watching TV series.

Why do you illustrate?
- Besides my interest, I also hope it can become a major source of income.

What do you most enjoy about illustrating? What do you want to do more of in your work?
- Creating beautiful colors makes me very happy. I greatly enjoy moments when my work is shared and appreciated (maybe a bit of showing off, haha). I hope my work can reach bigger stages and be seen by more people.

What do you least enjoy about illustrating? What do you hope to do less of?
- Coloring and creative thinking are very challenging for me, and I don't find them enjoyable initially, but once I overcome that pain, I become happy again. I may not enjoy it, but I'll persist, haha.

Who are your dream clients?
- Any brands that appreciate my work are welcome. I don't have specific preferences for whom I'd like to collaborate with.

What are your dream projects?
- I hope for large-scale events or bigger display opportunities. I want projects with multiple elements that allow me to be creative.

What influence or effect do you want your work to have on others? How do you want them to think or feel having encountered your work?
- I want them to find my work beautiful and attractive, so they would want to collaborate with me.

Where do you WANT to be in 1 year? 5 years? 10?
- In a year, I hope to have created over 100 complete works to make my portfolio and style more distinctive. In five years, I aim to be someone who can license most of my work on the market. Ten years from now is hard to imagine, but continuing to create would be great, perhaps starting some painting-related ventures like children's aesthetics. I hope more brands notice me and I can add more beauty to the market!

What markets interest you most? Why?
- I'm most interested in Editorial, Infographic, and Branding collaborations. I enjoy learning from scientific content, so combining learning with art would be very fulfilling.

What markets seem the least interesting to you? What would you take a hard pass on? Why?
- Anime and Fantasy aren't typically my interests, so I'm not interested in those markets.

What formats or contexts most interest you?
- I love Beer bottles, Sailboats, scenes for film, and children's toys. I've found I'm quite vain; I like things that can be spread and displayed. Designing creative toys would be particularly interesting.

What is unique about what you do, that nobody else does?

- Honestly, nothing really. But if I had to pick something decent, my art style might make people feel warm and cozy, which is nice.

What is there a market or demand for?

- Commercially, there is demand for collaborations between two famous figures to boost fan engagement and drive economic activity. My skill is illustration, and I can collaborate with businesses on anniversaries, seasonal events, and more.

What do clients appreciate about when working with you?

- For commercial illustrations, I often brainstorm multiple ideas for clients, helping them utilize the artwork in various ways. As for children's book illustrations, I have a lot to learn, so unfortunately, I don't provide additional value in that regard.

What kinds of problems do you think your art is best at solving?

- Aesthetic appeal and grabbing attention. A visually appealing illustration can captivate viewers, making them interested and potentially increasing brand engagement.

What other kinds of problems are you good at solving for your clients?

- I excel at expanding on illustrations' themes and brainstorming event planning ideas that integrate with the illustrations.

Do you have skills or experience from other fields to bring to the table?

-Event planning and marketing advertising.

What unique perspective do you bring to your work?

-None.

How did you come into illustration?

- Purely during COVID when I had spare time and started learning to draw. I unexpectedly found that I enjoyed it and even made a bit of money from it. Since I lacked other specific skills, I decided to continue with illustration.

How does your unique personality play into your work?

- I'm very outgoing and enjoy promoting my artwork extensively, which businesses appreciate as it increases exposure.

What is your Sweet Spot?

-I haven't found it yet, but I hope to discover it soon!
