Avoiding change

It surrounds us. In people, nature and lights.

The flickering and violence turning change into fights.

The fear pinning us in place, making life seem like a race.

Is staying the same better than standing alone in the dark?

Climbing to the top, only to fall and shred  the bark.

You can't beg a train to stop when it's already in motion.

You can plead with the sky or drink that deadly potion.

But it won't change what you already know.

That sorrows won't change the ending of the show.

You can watch from a distance as the bugs become something new, twisting and changing into something more true.

You can step onto a ladder and reach up high, in a desperate attempt to reverse a haunting lie.

You can hide your pain in a tiny little box, holding it close until the acceptance finally drops.

That you can't stop change and you can't burn guilt, those fears and doubts only make you wilt
