2 of my Altered books (in progress)

This class was great in that I learned several things that I I hadn't picked up through other classes; specifically that you should look for the middle pages of the signatures when determining which pages to pull, and that paperbacks are not a great choice since they are glued at the spine and likely to fall apart if you start removing pages.

The first photo is of a journal that I am experimenting with both clear and white gesso. Thr clear gesso is homemade from PVA glue, water, and cornstarch, while the white gesso was purchased. I want to see how they behave side by side eventually. I use parchment paper under the pages I'm covering with gesso so as to not stick the pages together accidentally. They are more wrinkled as I have glued sets of 2 or 3 pages together since they were quite thin.

The second and third photos are of the same page, first with the homemade clear gesso and then with Kuretake watercolors. I prefer to paint abstracts so that's what I did. I had yet to try painting on the homemade gesso, and I was relatively pleased with the results.

Thank you for this class- I appreciate that I learned something new today!
