1st and 2nd generation body easel

1st and 2nd generation body easel - image 1 - student project

Designing the setup for an aerial painting studio that would work while paragliding tandem with my son was the beginning of the body easel challenge.  Due to the original easel blocking my peripheral view, I had to redesign it after the first parapainting flight.  The result is the second generation easel which converts a sketchbook into the studio.  All the necessary items are attached to the sketchbook in a manner similar to the way they are attached in the original design. I've posted some photos of both body easels below.  For fun, you can view more videos of the body easel in action on my youtube channel: youtube.com/chriscarterart1st and 2nd generation body easel - image 2 - student project

This is the aerial studio set-up that blocked my peripheral vision.

This 2nd generation setup also attaches to your body.  After making this small version for aerial parapainting I made a larger version for urban sketching and I use the larger one more often as an actual body easel so that I'm not standing and holding the sketchbook with all its gear attached. Scroll down to see photos of both sketchbooks as a hands-free body easels. The straps clip to rings on the sketchbooks just as the body easel board I've taught you to make in this class.
