In this workshop you’ll learn three different approaches to analog and digital collage: using paper cutouts, digital source images, and typography. Have fun with paper, learn more about your own creative voice, and brush up on digital tools. This workshop is great for beginners and seasoned artists alike. You will need paper, scissors, glue, and access to Illustrator and Photoshop.
Workshop Timeline
- Milestone 1: First up, join illustrator Di Ujdi in From Paper Cut-Outs to Digital Collage: Finding Inspiration in Shapes and Colors. Pick up those scissors and create paper cut-outs, then mix, match, and layer to create interesting or surprising combinations. Once you’ve assembled your work by hand, you’ll digitize and fill in details in Illustrator. Share your collage in the Project Gallery by April 1st.
- Milestone 2: Next, join illustrators Evgeniya and Dominic Righini-Brand in Source & Mix: Digital Collage from Vintage Encyclopedia Illustrations. Use vintage encyclopedia illustrations to create collages inspired by history and the natural world. Evgeniya and Dominic direct you to free-to-use images online, and guide you through importing them, arranging them in a collage, and cleaning up your final image. Save your encyclopedia collage in the Project Gallery by April 10th.
- Milestone 3: Last, in Digital Poster Design: Combining Images & Type for Powerful Visuals, a Skillshare Original with Temi Coker, you’ll learn an inspiring approach to collaging image and type in Photoshop. You'll start with a simple photograph, add expressive elements, and transform it into a striking digital poster that celebrates your subject and makes a statement. Share your poster in the Project Gallery by April 20th.
