By watching the scene where Marion steals Mr Cassidy's money, the viewer's brain has no time to be able to transition into this new decision and environment, so the confused viewer goes along with it, and eventually, as they ponder over who she's stealing from, they remember how he treated her and start cheering her on as she steals the money.
