An evening before the the final results of my 12th standard were to be announced, I was sitting on the sofa, speculating my decision of choosing the subjects I was not much interested in. But what choice did I have?

It’s not like someone pressured me, but isn’t it obvious that if you score good in you 10th grade, you have to choose science and become an engineer?

Or at least that’s what I thought.

 

To be honest, for a long period of time everything was going according to plan until one day my school invited some of the career counsellors who told us about the opportunities we all have. Opportunities that can give me a career where I can be the best of who I am.

 

But to tell my parents, that I want to have a career in creative industry after taking science was a suicide mission; for the dreams that had for me were about to be shattered. And it wasn’t like I was exceptionally creative, I just liked drawing for hours as a hobby, without realising that it could mean anything in future.

 

The more I thought, the more I was sure of who I wanted to be. And hence, with all the courage I could gather, I told my parents that I want to be in a creative field.

 

While they didn’t say much, their expressions clearly showed that they had reservations against my decisions, so they very diplomatically asked me to try in multiple fields and then then take an informed decision.

 

I took their advice and got myself enrolled in a class which taught me computer science, and the moment I stepped into the lab of the college, I knew for sure that I don’t belong in that place.

 

I straight away ran to the creative college and got myself enrolled there!

 

Coming back to today!

Now that I’ve changed so many careers, from being a fine artist to becoming graphic designer and illustrator to finally being a UI / UX designer, one thing I have learnt so far is that change is the only constant. And you can only become something / someone if you want to be in that position.

 

There may be times, when you’ll have doubts on what to do, but if you’ll just listen to yourself in peace, you’ll find all the answers! Because enrolling in a Fine art college was undoubtedly the best decision on my life!
