Here my first randomly chosen colors: chrome yellow lemon, permanent rose and cobalt teal blue. I felt a bit disappointed about my colors as they are all 3 on the cold side and I would have loved a darker blue. But nevertheless I wanted to try this out as Chris said ANY color combo would be ok.

I chose to draw from life and took out some glass items that looked attractive to me. Drawing was the hardest part. I practised first with my pencil on copier paper until I felt comfortable to use my Lamy Safari fine nib pen on my Fabriano Artistico hot pressed paper 180 gsm. The pen worked a bit scratchy and I stiffened immediately, but I was brave enough to work directly with my pen and ink. The dice said GREEN - 12 semi-triad

 

 

 

For the second drawing I felt a bit less brave and put some faint placement marks on my paper. The dice said YELLOW - 11 modified triad

 

 

 

 

3rd example: Argh! I drew my items first in pencil....

VIOLET was the color and the dice said 2: double-complements

4th example: It took me forever to draw these items: I can get caught up in small details and lose the overview, although I would love to work looser. I had to tell myself that the beginner tries to draw what he sees and the artist arranges it in a pleasing way! :)

Conclusion: I thoroughly enjoyed playing the color scheme game and I definitely want to try out other pigments too. I learned that I can come up with something pleasing from ANY 3 colors. Alongside I learned that I don't particularly like the DS Cobalt teal. It had a bizarre consistency and I didn't enjoy to work with it. Maybe it was too old?

I want to work on series and like your idea, Chris, to draw meaningful items before giving them away. My succulents would be another collection I would enjoy to do. But I need to improve my drawing practice: get faster, looser... any helpful tips are welcome!
