Heavy-handed Humor
This wasn't my first linocut, but it WAS my first time carving out letters.
I had a hard time narrowing down my quotes and images, but I ultimately went with a Kurt Vonnegut quote: "Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand."
I worked from pictures of my own hand. Here are the sketches:
I used adobe capture to get a higher contrast image to put into Illustrator where I added text. Don't have images of that unfortunately.
I printed that out and used transfer paper I had from another project and traced the image onto my soft-olium. Then I realized my mistake and traced the reverse of the image on the other side.
I think my biggest mistake was choosing a skinny sans serif font that is hard for beginners to carve smoothly. Not as much room for error, but I got the hang of it toward the end!
The fingers ended up being more visually interesting than I expected!
I ended up making 6 prints in one go, but I have more paper left over so I might mess around with different colors some more. I think it might also look interesting with a lighter ink on a darker paper, but we'll see if I remember that idea tomorrow.
Thanks for the course! I really enjoyed it.
