Hey Romy! Thank you so much for sharing both reels — really appreciate the effort you put into applying the principles from the class. I’ll break my feedback into two parts so it’s super clear. First Reel You did a solid job adding background music and sound effects — that already makes the edit feel much more alive. Two things to adjust: The background music is too loud. Your voice gets buried under it, so simply lowering the music by a few dB (-10) will make everything clearer. Sound effects are also a bit too strong. They work, but they should sit behind the voice, not compete with it. Bringing them down in volume will make the whole reel feel smoother and more polished. Overall, great direction — just balance the audio levels so the viewer can focus on what matters. Second Reel The beginning feels really nice — the song choice fits the vibe you’re going for, and it instantly gives that elegant, cinematic mood. A couple of notes to tighten it up: You can make the sound effects a bit more subtle Right now, they’re noticeable enough to distract from the music. For this kind of cinematic reel, SFX should be barely there — more of a texture than a sound. Some of the SFX don’t match what we see. The audio sounds like cars passing by or waves, but visually it’s just a woman riding a bike. If you do want sound effects, think: light bicycle wheel noise gentle chain/clicks soft ambience maybe birds or nature About the brand angle:You mentioned it’s for a vegan/cruelty-free bag brand. The storytelling idea of “taking a moment for yourself” is great. If you ever decide to revisit the reel, you could experiment with showing a small glimpse of the product, just to tie the message and visuals together more strongly. Great job overall — you’re experimenting in the right direction. With a bit more attention to sound-to-picture matching and audio balance, these will already feel much more professional. Ciao Vlad, thank you so much for your super appreciate feedback! Yeah I am struggling with the volume in the first reel, I will use the volume values you gave me in the next ones! For the second reel, I chose the city noise effect because she was riding in the city with cars around, and at last she arrives in front of the sea, so the waves sound seemed appropriate for that scene! But you are right, I could add a wheel bike sound to underline in a better way that moment of "freedom".  Just a question: I saw you select your FX sounds in Epidemic Sound. Have you tried to generate them with Firefly Generative Sounds? Do you think they are good enough? Thank you so much!

Hey Romy! Thanks for the clarification — that actually makes a lot of sense. I can totally see the idea behind using the city ambience first and then the waves when she reaches the sea. Conceptually, it’s a great storytelling move. In this specific reel, though, something about the way those sounds blended together just didn’t land as well as it could. Sometimes a sound that works perfectly in real life doesn’t always translate the same way in an edit — especially when there’s music with a strong emotional tone already driving the scene.
So the idea is good, it just didn’t quite fit the moment here. But your logic behind it is 100% valid.
 
About your question on sound effects:
I personally don’t generate SFX with AI.
Most of the time I either:

use Epidemic Sound (they have everything I need), or

record small sounds myself if I want something very specific.

 
AI-generated audio can be super convenient, but for my workflow and the way I like to build atmosphere, it’s just not something I feel I need right now. For me, it crosses a bit into “overkill territory” creatively — but that’s purely personal preference. If it works for you, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.
 
And just to be clear: with sound effects there’s no strict “right or wrong.”
It’s all about what supports the mood you want. In this case, I think the scene could benefit from slightly simpler, more focused ambience — like subtle bike sounds or soft nature textures — just to match the visuals more closely.
 
You’re doing great, and the fact that you’re thinking this deeply about audio already puts you ahead of most people making reels. Keep experimenting — it’s the fastest way to find your signature style. 🙌🔥

Ciao Vlad, I am very happy to share 2 small reels I created for two different brands where I applied some principles you explained in the class!
FIRST REEL 
The first reel is a test I am running for a promotional lauch! I added sound effects and music while talking but it is just the first attempt, I will create more engaging reel for sure with practise!
SECOND REEL 
The second reel is "Grounding". It was created for a Vegan and Cruelty Free Bag Brand. We decided to use the storytelling to address one of the most common problem of their buyer persona: being overwhelmed by life and the desire to take a moment for yourself, just like riding your bike for a walk in front of the sea.
In this reel, besides the images, I wanted to add some EFFECTS as you explained (the traffic noise when the character rides in the city, and the ocean waves when she reaches the sea). 
I tried to find also a background music which reinforce that sense of freedom the character is looking for.
Thank you so much for this class! I will surely re-watch it to extract even more things I did not catch the first time!
