Oh my gosh Jennifer! These are so good! You did a great job observing those shadows and staying loose. They are both very emotive! I'm so in love with your second drawing of the woman feeding the birds. It's so expressive and atmospheric. I love how you suggested the surroundings and her coat with loose smudges so that the focus is completely on her and her feathered friends. I'm so happy you had fun!!

Thank you so much Jerney. Having never done much with charcoal but have done some drawing with pencil but now I'm in love with charcoal. Still have a way to go to understand it more.  Just love how much drama and emotion you can get with it. Need to buy a some charcoal powder. I used a mortar and pestle to grind down what I used for the old man. It was still a bit chunky. Thanks again it was so fun.

Oh wow, charcoal can be challenging to get the hang of the first time around but you aced it (you should have seen my first attempts back when I was studying art therapy, my teacher was lovingly scolding me the first few times haha)! I think you will love the powder. You did a fine job grinding yours, because yeah it's hard to get rid of all the chunks. But in the end, it's the artists who makes great art, not the medium (although nice supplies do make our lives a little easier 😁). I think you would like my larger charcoal class with 7 different ways of drawing with the charcoal. I would love to see what you create with those. :)

Thanks Carmen. For me a lot more practice needed. This is the quickest class I have ever done. You should try it. I just had a go not really thinking about the final product. It was fun.. You are usually doing so much art.

This was such a fun class. Tried to stay with Jerney first  which was so empowering to do this very loosely without worrying too much about the result
