Gouache 101: cómo producir un diseño audaz y decorativo

Thanks for sharing your beautiful project Natka. I hope you enjoyed the class and found it useful.My only suggestion is that you might want to try using the paint in a slightly thicker consistency to try and avoid it looking a bit streaky, but otherwise its a great job. I hope you carry on painting with gouache.

Yes, I need to work on the paint's consistency. Kate, I wanted to ask if I can use masking fluid on the painted elements (bird, flower, butterfly) while painting the background. I'm not sure if it's even possible to apply masking fluid to the paint surface, or just to a blank sheet of paper. I've seen masking fluid used in watercolors before, but I'm not familiar with the technique.

Ahh interesting question, I wouldn't recommend using masking fluid on top of gouache as it will reactivate the paint and pull it off.  You could use it on the bare paper, however I wouldn't paint over the masking fluid with gouache as when you go to rub it off it will get pretty messy unless you are extremely careful!I only use masking fluid with more liquid paints such as water colour or ink, I think the thickness of the gouache prevents it from working well.I hope that helps!
