Creating with unusual surfaces/objects

Part of the 21-Day Creative Habit Challenge on the Skillshare Discord

I loved this class and all of these challenges so fun. I did all three challenges at once, mixing and matching objects, surfaces, mediums, etc. I am bit of a hoarder and love saving random bits and pieces "just in case" they can be used for...something in the future, so it was fun to put them to use!

Mediums: watercolor and ink
Surfaces: used coffee filter, bubble mailer, lens cleaning wipe
Objects: toothbrush, toothpicks, floss, q-tips, bubble wrap, latex glove, plastic knife
Art supplies: various brushes, glass pen, brush pen

Favorite discoveries:

- The bubble mailer really surprised me. I pealed the bubble wrap off but the residual glue acted like masking fluid and when I put ink on, it made an interesting pattern. I also pressed a piece of watercolor paper to the bubble mailer before it dried and got a very cool pattern that had a different texture from the bubble wrap itself.

- What I liked the most was smearing watercolor and ink with my hands and gloves. It was so tactile, and I could spread the paint quickly over large surfaces. I picked up different paint on each finger and mixed the colors directly on the page. It felt way more intuitive than using a brush. Definitely will be returning to this technique.

- I liked the q-tip, which formed very neat little circles that could be handle for making patterns, as well as engraving/scratching with the glass pen and plastic knife. When I first got the glass pen, I was frustrated that it made deep marks on the page but after watching the class, I am trying to think of how to incorporate the groves into future drawings.

Not so successful discoveries:

- Across the three challenges, I had the least success with my watercolors, which just did not play well with the different surfaces and objects.

- I liked the texture the little floss brush/pick thing made but the floss itself was a total dud. I was hoping to use it like a rope and drag it across the page but, especially with the watercolors, it didn't leave any impression.
