Selma Theruf is one of the last survivors of village. Her tribe was destroyed by an explosion while she was on the outskirts of her village  with her younger brother, she was knocked unconscious by the blast and nearly froze to death. When she awoke her brother was gone and so was her town.

Now she spends her time wandering and discreetly sabotaging the Queen's guard. Her status quo shifts when she recognizes her brother in one of the Queen's guard. After nearly dying at his hands she vows to take down the government that destroyed her life.

Selma's Villain 

Throughout the first two thirds of the book (ish) Selma is convinced her villain is the Queen. Later she discovers that the Queen is nothing more than an ignorant figurehead and her true enemy is the ____ Family.
