The beak can be tricky, you need to have enough pigment when you put the dark down to be able to rewet it and spread it out, you could wet the entire beak with clean water and then add in the indigo at the very edge, but you do not have as much control and it can spread over the entire beak because it is such a small area.  The wing is very defined, great job there.  For the eye, you could increase the dark area at the front and bottom and then add a bit of shadow in between the beak and the eye but I think you did a great job connecting the viewer to the bird.  The Arches hot press paper looks like it has texture in it, I have not used theirs, it is usually smooth and almost shiny. It almost looks like the soft press paper I use from Fabriano

Great job Carmen, I like the ink addition, I used to do so much more of that.  What trouble did you have with the eye and the beak?

My troubles with small sections is like not enough control or steadiness to stay within the lines.

I can relate to that, my hands are not as steady as they used to be.  I find using the liner brush and dabbing in fine lines helps when I am working small, what size is your painting?  Mine in the video is 11x14".  I run into this with commissions all the time, people want to get a smaller painting thinking it should be cheaper when in fact it is 10x harder to paint the same way small.  One thing I did (and still do) is to not make a painting, just get a small piece of paper and paint sections of paintings, like just paint beaks until you are happy with them.  

5x7 and yes I said to myself earlier to just try practicing a beak or eye!

for "loose" paintings bigger is so much easier, my best paintings are on full sheets of paper, usually from demonstrations.  This does two things, one I can use big brushes with lots of water and two, I can't over work it because people are watching!
