Welcome to the New Year Teach Challenge! Now is the perfect time to share your skills and become a teacher; with the Month of Learning in full swing, your class will go live during our busiest time of the year. This means more students and more opportunity to earn revenue and build a student following on Skillshare.
Through the 30-day challenge, we'll guide you through the full process of creating your first class from start to finish with milestones, prizes, and tons of support along the way.
How it Works
- Milestone 1 + 2- Class Topic & Project due January 20th: Start your class draft and share your class topic and project in the Project Gallery for feedback by 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday, 1/20 and you could win a Snowball Mic (10 prizes available).
- Milestone 3- Class Outline due January 25th: Share your class outline in the Project Gallery by 11:59 PM EST on Monday 1/25 and you’ll be eligible to win a $50 Fab.com gift card (5 prizes available). We recommend blocking off time the weekend of January 29th-January 31st to film your class.
- Teacher Support AMA | January 28th at 3pm EST: Join this live Q&A session to get tips and feedback on questions as you prepare to start filming your class!
- Milestone 4- Introduction Video due February 1st: Post your introduction video in the Project Gallery by 11:59 PM EST on Monday 2/1 and you’ll be qualified to win a $100 Amazon gift card (3 prizes available).
- AMA on Preparing to Publish Your Class | February 9th at 1pm EST: Join top Skillshare teacher Ria Sharon who also started teaching through a monthly teach challenge! She'll cover some impactful marketing tactics and offer pointers on how she's become so successful as a teacher.
- Milestone 5- Final Class due February 15th: Publish your class by 11:59 EST on 2/15 and you’ll receive a free year of Skillshare Premium Membership. All first-time teachers that enroll 25 students within 7 days will receive a $100 new teacher bonus. What’s more, the Teach Challenge class that bubbles the highest on the Trending page will receive an iPad Pro and be featured in a community-wide email to over 1.2 M students! Be sure to leverage our Marketing tips for best practices on how to get your class trending.

FAQs
- What if I miss a deadline? No problem - you can catch up to the next milestone and still be eligible to complete the challenge if you publish your class by the deadline.
- Do I have to live in the USA to participate? You can teach a Skillshare class from anywhere in the world! While we can only give prizes out to residents of the United States who are over 18 years of age due to tax purposes, you can still take the pledge and publish your class to Skillshare.
- How is the winner selected? Classes are reviewed against our Class Guidelines. The grand prize winner will be awarded with an iPad Pro based on adherence to the class guidelines and quality of content as determined by the Skillshare team.
- Am I eligible for the $100 new Teacher Bonus? To qualify, you must be a first-time teacher and your class should meet all class guidelines and enroll 25 students within the first 7 days of being live.

- Assignment: If you haven't done so already, start your class draft at www.skillshare.com/teach by clicking "Start a Class." Your class draft is where you'll upload your class information and videos before publishing to Skillshare.
Milestone 2: Class Topic and Project - Due Wednesday, January 20th
- Assignment: Watch videos 1-5 of Teach an Amazing Skillshare Class.
- Deliverable: Start your class project in Teach an Amazing Skillshare Class and share your class topic and class project.
Milestone 3: Outline - Due Monday January 25th
- Assignment: Watch video 6 of Teach an Amazing Skillshare Class and complete your own outline using this outline template.
- Deliverable: Share a link to your outline in your class project.

Milestone 4: Your Introduction Video - Due Monday, February 1st
- Assignment: Watch video 7 of Teach an Amazing Skillshare Class, check out our filming resources in our Teacher Handbook, and practice your teacher presentation skills.
- Deliverable: Post your introduction video on Youtube, and embed the link into your project or share the direct URL.

- Join top Skillshare teacher Ria Sharon and start thinking about class marketing and student engagement!
Milestone 5: Publish Your Class - Due Monday, February 15th
- Assignment: Watch videos 8-9 in Teach an Amazing Skillshare Class, finish recording your videos, and upload them to your class draft (click "Start a Class").
- Deliverable: Publish your class to Skillshare and share a link to your class in your project by February 15th at 11:59 PM EST!

- The Discussion section and the Community Board are spaces for you to drop comments and questions and ask for extra support and feedback from the community!
- Your Project within the Project Gallery of Teach an Amazing Skillshare Class is a working space for your Skillshare class! This is where you'll start planning your class and where you'll share your milestones for the challenge. Feel free to also include photos, mood-boards, or any other inspo along the way. Your project within the class will also be shown in the Projects section up above so that it's easily accessible to everyone else who's joined this New Year Teach Challenge!
- The Class Draft is where you'll input all of your class content once you're all ready to publish your amazing class!
