The Watcher (note to younger me)

A realisation of whether id warn younger me of the pain that lies ahead in life.

The Watcher

Young woman with hope as long as the Nile

a pretty face and infectious smile

no haste, no hurry time moves slowly on

While you laugh and play in wine and song

Nostalgic tears i could watch you all day

Your carefree joy wild and at play

No dread for the future or how it erodes

You wish time away while speeding down roads

I want to shout loud and lead you astray

Protect you from you. Advise if i may

Regrets last a lifetime and scar your soft skin,

If i could then id give you permission to sin

You must stay the course I cant intervene

Only watch from the shadows, shrouded unseen

You have to keep going and do what you do

If im to be me. You have to be you.
