For my city flag design, I chose the town of Portage, Wisconsin. It is a small town located on the Wisconsin River. Portage, the name, means to carry one's canoe from one body of water to another. The slogan of the town is 'Where the North Begins.'

I sketched two designs based on this info. One shows a canoe going from land to water and being guided by a star signifying North and forward movement.

The other is a river that is flowing towards the horizon. The top of that flag has a star in the North as well.

 

 

I used my sketches as a guide and then drew these in Illustrator. These will give me final vector files for printing. My colors are green and blues to stick with a nature based color scheme.

 

 

 

I then downloaded some Photoshop templates which made it easy to mockup the flag designs. This makes them more realistic and they will look great if I submit them to a city council to look at.
