I admit to not entirely following instructions -- I used a photograph instead of a scan....my scanner refuses to have anything to do with that fluorescent pink! The original photo was also much more skewed -- the book was at an angle on a carpet.

My cleaned up image followed Samantha's steps, with the addition of using the skew function to straighten it out a bit more!

Based on the style of the artwork (which was mean to be messy and fast), there was a line between cleaning up enough and cleaning up too much. Most of what I needed to clean up was the smudges of black ink because I'm completely incapable of keeping my hands out of lines I've just drawn.
