Guardian Article Analysis

1) Who were playing? Borussia Dortmund and 1. FC Nürnberg, two football clubs from Germany.

Where was the match played? The Westfalenstadion, (another name for the Signal Iduna Park) the home stadium of Borussia Dortmund.

When was the match played? The evening of Wednesday September 26th, 2018, during a Bundesliga (Top-flight league in Germany) game.

Why was there total silence? Supporters of both clubs remained in silence for the opening 20 minutes in protests against the DFB (Deutscher Fussball-Bund, the football federation of Germany) and the DFL (Deutscher Fussball-Liga, the organiser of the Bundesliga and it's second division, the 2. Bundesliga). German teams (and Dortmund in particular) are known for having supporters who chant and create an atmosphere for the duration of a game, but also have a reputation for protesting about issues in football. (e.g. increases in ticket prices).

What generated a response from the crowd? Borussia Dortmund scoring a goal, by Jacob Bruun Larsen, to take the lead.

2) Yes, the second paragraph explained that this protest was league-wide, that supporter groups from other Bundesliga clubs were also taking part in the silence to protest against the DFB and DFL.

3) The "Talking Points" referred to the other matches taking place in the Bundesliga that week. While the main focus of the article was on Dortmund's win, (it's not often you see a 7-0 scoreline in the Bundesliga) the reporter noted about Werder Bremen's positive start to the season, with Nuri Sahin joining Bremen from Dortmund. Due to Bayern Munich's dominance in the Bundesliga, winning every title since 2013, it's not often they drop points, especially against a club like Augsburg, who don't regularly challenge for the title. Other "talking points" mentioned Leverkusen and Schalke, both of whom had excellent seasons the year before, with Leverkusen recording their second win (after losing the first three), and Schalke breaking records (for the wrong reason) by losing their first 5 matches.

4) The quotes described how the supporters felt about the conflicting views of the fans and the governing bodies, and gave the reader the chance to hear about the opinions of the people involved.
