Before you enroll in this course, I would like to ask you, Are you satisfied with Media Walker Webcam videos like this? You should always lie at the person in the video with extra lights, or you will end up with a grayish, blurry and unprofessional image in your video. Or do you realize the huge potential filming and producing a high quality of Web cam video like this? An eye level camera perspective is in most cases, the most flattering perspectives for these kinds off personal and close up videos. These cores can take you all the way to that high standard in a step by step process. The ideal student for this course is someone who would like to create professional Webcam videos for YouTube. Online courses, product reviews, video blog's etcetera. I am ready to teach you today, so in rule right now and learn how to take your Webcam videos to a higher level. My name is Mike, and I'm waiting for you in the course, my friends. 2. Let's Start with a Story: Hey, friends. Before we dive into the subject, I want to tell you a short story to give you a different perspective and hopefully motivate and inspire you as well. Already, Lisa is a 29 year old fitness expert from Germany. She has shared videos on her YouTube channel for over three years with a practical tips, exercise demonstrations as well as motivational style of videos. To be able to have time to do this, she thought it would be best to film and produced the video blog's right in front of her computer. Using a Web cam and a recording software. She tried multiple times and sadly, failed. The videos were grainy, burry, dork and simply looked awful. The audio was even worse, with a constant his and teenies sound and lack the clarity she wanted. She decided that she needed some help to get started and to learn how to feel better Webcam videos. After stumbling upon a course on Webcam video production, she enrolled right away and took the course with excitement. She even used a note pad to take notes or things she wanted to give extra attention to. After the course, she made another attempt on filming and producing a high quality Webcam video. This time she had invested in an external use B microphone as well as a better Webcam than the building one she had used before. She followed all the steps from the course and finally was thrilled with the quality of her new Webcam videos. She was now able to start her daily video block serious, and she noticed great results after only a few weeks, with increasing numbers of subscribers, video views and even email sign ups. All right, I hope this little story open your eyes to the great potential off high quality Webcam videos. Now let's move on to the next lesson, my friends. 3. Get the Most out of this Course: Hey, friends, I really wanted to learn, improve your skills, get inspired and motivated and hopefully develop unique ideas from taking my course to get the most out of this course, I have some tips for you. Take my advice as you want. My only wish is that you get a good learning experience as well as motivation, and that you finally take action in the end, be prepared and take notes during the course pause and reflect whenever you need to watch lessons again to really let the knowledge to sink in as many times as you feel necessary. Remember that repetition is the mother of learning. If you have a question or simply want to share your thoughts, please post in the course discussion board report of the discussions going on and engaged with other students. Everyone, including yourself, will gain from it. The best time to take action is while you have the knowledge fresh in memory as well as the most motivation and momentum. So I really hope you take advantage of this and take action right after you have finished the course. In this case, it might mean to order a new HD webcam and external. Use the microphone, creating a good lighting set up for your Webcam videos and simply get started and just do it. Finally, how could you make the learning experience more fun and exciting? Well, it's all about having your positive attitude and willingness to learn. Have you noticed already? Make a cup of coffee or tea and perhaps bring out a box of fine chocolate. Simply get into a positive mindset and prepare yourself to learn. All right, Now you're ready to dive into the practical section of this course. I'll see you there, my friends. 4. Example Bad Webcam Video: Hey, friends in this video, I'm going to show you an example off a bad Webcam video and explained the mistakes that led to the overall poor Quartey off this Webcam video production. All right, here we go. All right, so there are many mistakes in the production of these Webcam video. The first thing is the unflattering camera perspective. Having the camera lower than I level creates an UNP leasing and disturbing appearance. No one really wants to look up your nose. The second mistake in this video is the old rule. Insufficient lighting. You should always lie at the person in the video with extra lights, or you will end up with a grayish, blurry and unprofessional image in your video. The third mistake is having an ugly or distracting background. In this case, the background is both boring and disturbing. With just a window and some random stuff back there, use a professional backdrop or find a more interesting and complementary background for your Webcam videos. Look around in your environment for a good place to aim your camera on to get a pleasing background. The final big mistake in this video is using the built in microphone in the webcam, and that's a music and audio producer myself. I would even call this the biggest mistake of all because people might forgive the bad image quality. But they will not forgive bad audio. So always use a good external microphone for your Webcam videos. So to recap, avoid a lower camera perspective. Use eye level perspective or higher, always lighter subject with extra lights support from the natural lights in the room. Think about how the background looks. Use a professional backdrop or find a policing background in the room. You feel me and finally always use an external microphone to recall of the audio in your Webcam videos. All right now we have seen a bad example off a Webcam video. So let's go to the next lesson, and I will show you an example of a high quality Webcam video. I'll see you later on. My friends 5. Example High Quality Webcam Video: Hey, friends. In this video, I will show you an example of a high quality Webcam video and explain the reasons to what makes the image quality is so good for reference. This video clip is filmed with a built in webcam in my I Mac. So what makes this Webcam video high quality and professional? Well, the first thing you may notice is the overall good lighting. The subject, which is me in this case, stands out, and the image looked pretty detailed and sharp. You can also see that the lighting is evenly balanced without any horse shadows in the image. Next, listen to the audio in this Webcam video. Now the audio is crisp, clear and balanced, and you simply cannot get this high audio quality with a built in microphone in your webcam or computer. Great audio as an extra dimension to the video. If the audio sounds professional, it takes the Webcam video to a higher level off overall quality. Using a clean backdrop in your Webcam videos can be a really great way to remove a boring or distracting background in your videos, and it looks really professional, too. An eye level camera perspective is in most cases the most flattering perspectives for these kinds off personal and close up videos. And it is also great for enhancing the connection to your viewers. So, to recap, good lighting makes the subject stand out, and the cooler balance and details we look much better. The old rule image will be sharp and high quality. If the audio sounds professional, it takes the Webcam video to a much higher level in overall quality. Using a clean backdrop in your Webcam videos can be a great way to remove a boring or distracting background. An eye little camera perspective is, in most cases, the most flattering perspective for Webcam videos. All right now you have seen high coolant example of the Webcam video production. I hope this can inspire and motivate you to take these steps in this course and lift your Webcam videos to a higher level of quality. Let's move on to the next lesson. My friends 6. Which Webcam to Use?: Hey, friends. In this video, we will talk about what to consider when choosing the right webcam for you. The internal webcam in your computer is, sadly, not good enough, so you will have to look for a professional external Web cam to be able to record high quality where began videos. First, you should look for a webcam that supports full HD video. This means the resolution off 1920 times 10 80 pixels. It should also have a good lens and optics, or at least as good as they come in webcams. If the user lends brand in the marketing and specification off the webcam, that is a good sign. Examples of famous lens manufacturers or coral size and Blaker. A good rule of thumb is that the lens should be large, since this means more light will enter the camera, which will produce a better image for maximum flexibility. It is great if your webcam has a tripod mount. So what is a tripod mouth? Well, it's this small hole here, which makes it possible to screw your webcam onto a standard tribal plate and then mounted on a tripod. This means that he complains, her webcam freeway in the room you filming and also control the angle, the framing and perspective. So I have used lots of different webcams for around 10 years, and my recommendations are the two main ones are used today, which is the logic c 9 20 on the Microsoft Life Cam Studio. Both of these have full HD with good optics and can be mounted on a standard tripled. So to recap, look for a webcam that supports full HD, which means 1920 times 10 80 pixels and has good optics. If the Webcam has a tripod mount, it will give you increased flexibility. My personal recommendations for a Webcam or Loga Tick C 9 20 and Microsoft Life Cam Studio . These are Webcams. I use myself all right now that you know what to consider when choosing a great Webcam for Euro video productions, let's continue to the next video. My friends 7. How to Mount the Webcam: Hey, friends. In this video, we will discuss different ways. You can mount your webcam to get a good angle and perspective in your Webcam videos. So the most common way is to hang the web can on top of your desk top computer monitor. This will make your webcam being eye level or just to be tired on the front. Facing perspective will give the video of personal look almost like you're talking right in front of your viewer. Please be careful to not be too cools to the webcam. Since webcams have wide angle lenses. If you get too close to a wide angle lens, it will distort the image and make it unflattering for the person in picture. So to mount your webcam on top on your computer monitor, you just take your webcam and you usually have a device like this, which you can turn out and just turning it on top. Yet the angle you want and you're done. If you have a webcam with a tripod mount like this one, and they use be extension cable, you can mount your webcam on the tripod anywhere in the room you filming. You do it by taking the plate that comes with your tripod and just screw it into the hole beneath the webcam and then mounted on top of your tripod. This will make it easier to find a good background framed. The image of the video changed the camera height and perspective, etcetera. Overall, mounting the webcam on a triple is great for added flexibility. If you like the front facing perspective, you can also use a meanie tripod place just behind your computer monitor. Like this one I have right here. You will then be able to adjust the angle for a slightly higher perspective. If you want to, you will also get the webcam slightly further back, which will help reduce the order facts off a wide angle lens. This kind of set up is a good compromise off the other two ideas mentioned. So to recap, hang the webcam on top of your desktop computer monitor to create a personal look just like you are talking in front of the viewer off the video, mount your webcam on a tripod and use the use be extension cable to put the tripod anywhere in the room. You filming use a meanie tripled and place it just behind your computer monitor. This is a good compromise off the other two options, as you still yet some flexibility. All right, now you know a few common ways to mount your webcam. So let's move on to the next video, my friends. 8. Camera Angle, Perspective and Framing: Hey, friends. In this video, you will learn how to set up your camera angle, perspective and framing to get the best results for your Webcam video production. First, you should avoid camera angles and perspectives that are unflattering. A good rule of thumb is to never record with a camera below eye level. An eye level perspective is the most common and great to add a sense of speaking like a real person in front of the viewer, The higher camera perspective puts the viewer in authority almost like a parent looking down on their Children. This adds an overall sense off humbleness and kindness, since it puts you in a vulnerable perspective. It is also great for including Maura, of your body, language and things you want to demonstrate with your hands when framing the image. Make sure that you include some headroom in your videos, which means that there should be some space between your head and the top of the frame. Also, make sure to adjust the framing so you get at least your upper chest included in the frame . A course up or literally talking head is not very good for Webcam videos and can even feel slightly intimidating for the viewer. I advise you to use the rule of thirds for professional framing off the image. Basically, you divide the image in three equally sized sections horizontally as well as vertically. Then you use those lines as a framing guide agreed. Advantage or framing according to the rule of thirds, is that you get a perfect area to add text and graphics to, since people focus mostly on other people's eyes. What you want to do is to frame your eyes in line with that top framing guideline. You also want your eyes on either the left or the right side off the framing guide. So to recap, a good rule of thumb is to never record with a camera below eye level. Use an iron level perspective to add a sense of speaking like a real person in front of the viewer. Use the higher camera perspective to add an overall sense of humbleness and kindness, and also, if you want to include more of your body language and demonstrate things with your hands, you can use the rule of thirds to frame your video image professionally, which will also give you a perfect area to add text and graphics to Great. Now you know about camera angles, perspectives and framing for your Webcam videos. So let's move on to the next video, my friends. 9. Lighting Setup for Webcam Videos: Hey, friends. In this video, you will learn how to set up the lighting for a Webcam video to creating high quality emits . First, you can take advantage of lights you already have, naturally in the room, like the ceiling light, which will create a basic overall lighting of the room. Personally, I have exchanged the light bulbs in my ceiling light to high powered led lights. The high power ceiling light will not cost any horse shadows, so it is a good investment check. What happens when I turn off the ceiling light in the room, so big difference, isn't it? In daytime, you can also use natural light from the windows. But this means you would have to face the window like I'm doing now, which might not work for your specific Webcam video set up. Now check the difference when I remove the blind from the window. Major difference, isn't it? So taking advantage of a strong ceiling light and perhaps facing a window is great, but having a lighting set up specifically for lighting your Webcam videos will create the best image. The easiest way to go for is the one point lighting system you can use a good desktop light and place it behind your computer monitor as long as it is high enough to reach above the top of the screen so you can aim it towards your face. Like this one I have back here. It's just an orderly disk to plan from my kier. If you want to take it up to an even higher level, you can go for a two point lighting system and place those lights at about 45 degree angle on either side, off the webcam like I have here first the desktop lamp and then another light also from my key, actually, which I can turn on like this. Now I have one light over here and one light over here. Finally, I have a little secret to share. You can actually use your computer monitor as an extra light for your Webcam videos. Since it has a large area, it works almost as a big soft books light. So when you start your Web cam recording, switch your monitor to a screen that is as light as possible. I just use the common Google website as the background because it's almost entirely white. Now let me show you the difference in a Webcam video where I use the monitor as a light. This is a recording without using the screen as a light, and this is a recording using the computer monitor and the Google website to light my face . So to recap, take advantage of lights you already have naturally in the room, like a strong ceiling light in daytime. You can also use natural light from the windows. If you face the window, you can use a one point writing system and place a desktop light behind your computer monitor that reaches just over the top. You can also go for a two point lighting system and place those lights at about 45 degree angle on either side off the webcam. You can even use your computer monitor as an extra light for your Webcam videos. Great, Now you know how to light your Webcam videos for a great image quality. So let's move on to the next video. My friends 10. Record your Voice in High Quality: Hey, friends. In this video, you will learn how to record your voice to get high quality audio in your Webcam videos. This will be a very basic summary of what you should think about in the recording process. I have a full course on recording great audio for video. For those of you who are interested first use of high quality USB microphone, you should never use the built in microphone in your computer or webcam or any other building microphone, for that matter. Simply put, those are crappy. What you need is an external microphone hooked up to your computer. The easiest solution is to go for a high quality USB microphone. If you simply want a microphone to place on the desk in front of you, the Blue Yeti or rode NT USB or popular choices If you want to go for a desktop mounting system for your mic, the road pulled Coster USB microphone is a great choice for mounting the microphone. I personally used a desktop arm mounting system, and the one I used the most and recommend is the Road P is a one, which is the one I have over here. This is a very flexible, mounting system and of really high quality. But there are many other similar products from other brands. Of course, I also have another desktop arm mounting system over here, which is a bit less flexible but works great as well. So when you record your voice, you want to get very close to the microphone, because this means the mike will pick up more from your voice compared to the acoustics from the room. However, if you get too close, you will start getting popping sounds even when using a pope filter, I recommend a distance of around 4 to 6 inches between your mouth and the microphone capsule. So I just mentioned that you might get popping sounds in your audio. What do I mean by that? Well, it is simply because when you say certain constant sounds, it creates a pulse it or pop off air, which is too much to handle for the microphone, p and B or usually the worst. Listen to this example, and this is a recording without using a pope filter pop pop pop up. This is what you want to avoid, and you do this by using you put filter like this one I have in front of the microphone. These little filter in front of the microphone removes a lot off the implosive air and reduces the pope sounds from entering the microphone. It is also important to check your input levels when you record audio. Since our voices are dynamic and shift in peak volume all the time, you should always have some headroom. When setting your average input level, I recommend to aim for an average input level off minus 12 decibel. You will have to check this in your audio. Monitor off your particular software before you start recording some software. Do not offer a detail DB Monitor off the audio. For example. Screenful, which I personally use, have a cooler audio meter, which goes from green into orange and then red. In this case, I aim for an average input level that is in the green area but fairly close to orange. So to recap, never use a built in microphone. The easiest solution is to go for a high quality use B microphone. Mount the microphone, either with a small disk stand or a desktop mounting arm system. I recommend recording at a distance off around 4 to 6 inches between your mouth and the microphone capsule. Use a pope filter to reduce Pelosi of sounds. Check your input levels, which should be in the higher green or an average off minus 12 decibel. If you have a detailed audio meter in your software, great. Now you know the foundations of recording high quality audio for your Webcam videos. So let's move on to the next video, my friends. 11. Software for Recording and Editing: Hey, friends. In this video, you will learn about different software applications you can use to record your Webcam videos and also to edit your videos in the most common professional solution for Mac users , and the software I personally use is called screen Flow. It is a very complete software, which you can use for recording Webcam videos as well a screen recordings, but also edit your videos, improve all you air text graphics effects, etcetera for PC. The best alternative, in my opinion, is Camped Asia, which can basically do the same things that screen flow can. It also has great features for adding cool outs, assuming into the screen to hide I things and much more if you want a free solution on Mac . Quick Time is a great app that also comes built into the operating system, but it is only a recorder, so you will need another app to editor of videos with In this case, you can use I movie, which is also free. My recommendation for a free solution on PC is Cam Studio, but the same applies for this app. You need a separate video editor. You might then want to check out Windows movie maker. I have used all of these self replication I just recommended, but as a personal recommendation, I really love screen flu. It is very easy to learn and to create high quality video productions with so to recap, My recommendation for a professional solution for Mac users is called Screen Flow. My recommendation for a professional solution for PC users is called Camp Tasia, the best free recorder from Mac. I believe it's Quick Time and then edit with my movie. The best free recorder for PC, I believe, is Cam Studio and then edit with Windows movie maker Awesome. Now you know the most common solutions for software to record your Webcam videos with and also video editing software. So let's move on to the next video, my friends. 12. Polish the Video in Post Production: Hey, friends. In this video, you will learn the basics of how to polish the video in post production. There are so much you can do in post production. But the following are what I consider to be most important for Webcam video productions. What I always do with my Webcam videos. It's adjusting the calm frost in the editing software. Usually this means that I increase the contrast around 10%. Sometimes I also need to increase the brightness level just a bit. But usually I just leave the brightness level as it is, because increasing it will also increase the visible noise in the video. The second thing I always do is improving the audio in the video. These depends on the software you use, but the most important thing is to normalize the audio and compress it a bit to increase the loudness and clarity in screen flow, which is the software I usually use, especially for Webcam productions. They have a lacy button that does all for you, and the process looks like this. First, select the clips in the timeline that you want to improve the audio on idea. Excuse this clip as an example Then you go up here to the inspector and select the audio tab in the audio tab. You have these checkbooks here that says smooth volume levels. This is what I call the lazy button. When you check this box screen flow will process the audio with both normalizing and compressing. So this is what you want to check, and that is all you need to do to improve the audio in screen flow. Sometimes there is also some noise, like hissing or bussing in the recording that you can reduce by applying some noise reduction. I advise you to never use more than 50% noise reduction because if you use too much, you will hear some bad noise reduction or defects in the audio. P I. P. Or picture in picture is also great for Webcam videos. You do this by having a background or image below your video track and then reduce the video size of your Webcam video. And that process looks like this. So we have video clip here, which we want to use the P I P effect or picture in picture on. First you take a background image or color and put it below the video trek. Then you go to the video itself and reduce the size of it. Let's choose 50% and then you can place it wherever you want. Like, for example, in the upper left corner. This means you now have a clean area to add images, graphics or text to. So now I can, for example, added bullet lists to highlight important points like this. So as you can see, you have a great area here to add text or graphics to so you can choose the text to. I had two textbooks just the size informed us you wish and, for example, right a bullet list. I have one prepared here. Then you can choose to use a backdrop or not for the text and place it beside the video like that. And also, by reducing the size off the Webcam video, it will basically get more pixels per inch, which will make it look sharper to the viewer. This is especially good if you cannot manage to get the video quality of your Webcam videos up to stand and you're satisfied with. So to recap, I always increase the contrast off the Web cam video of it, usually around 10%. Normalising and compressing the audio will make it louder and clearer in screen flow. This is a one button solution. Noise reduction can be used to reduce hissing and busing, but don't go overboard personally. I never go over 50% p. I. P. Or Picture in picture works great for Webcam videos, and you can then easily add images, graphics or text beside your video epic. Now you know the foundations of publishing the video in post production. So let's move on to the next video, my friends. 13. Conclusion: Hey, friends, I want to congratulate you for getting this far. You are almost complete. You still have your final course project to do. But first, let's sum up what you have learned in this course. First, I showed you examples off a bad word can video and a high quality Webcam video, and you learn the reasons which may the 1st 1 bad and what made the 2nd 1 professional. Then we discussed what to consider when choosing a webcam and followed up with different ways to mount the webcam, depending on your needs. You then learned about camera angles and perspectives, and also the importance of good framing off the A video image. We then went into lighting and you learned about different lighting set up seeking use from natural lighting to using what you already have, as well as extra lighting just for the video. Next, you learned how to record your voice in high quality for your Webcam videos, and then we discussed different software to use for recording and editing. Finally, you learned a couple of ways to polish the video in post production. As a bonus, he also got some of my personal tips from practical experience and mistakes I made when starting out. I also described my full set up for Webcam video productions, which you may copy if you like, or use as a source of inspiration. All right, let's continue in the next video, my friends. 14. Mike's Bonus Tips: Hey, friends. In this lesson, I will give you my best personal advice on Webcam video production, which I have mostly learned the hard way by making mistakes myself. So here we go test everything until you are satisfied with your set up the lighting camera perspective framing background webcam settings, audio etcetera. Make your number one priority to improve the audio. Because people hate poor audio even mawr than poor video quality. Try to make the background less distracting. One way is to use the backdrop. Another is to find a good background where you can aim your Web cameras. Remember that your personality on camera presence and overall engagement in the video always has the greatest impact on the viewers. Make sure to always make a short test recording before the real recording off the video begins. This will help you avoid simple mistakes like forgetting to connect the microphone, turn on the lights, etcetera. It is very easy to turn your eyes away to your notes on your computer and just read. Learn to focus your eyes on the lens. You are talking to your viewers, after all, and they would like to feel it. Finally, try to relax when you record.
