If this sounds interesting to you, quickly grab your paints, knives, and the canvas board and let's get started. Thank you. 2. Getting Started : Basic Tools & Art Supplies (1:48): In this class, we will be learning about list of art materials we require to paint this beautiful sunflower. There are a list of 11 things we will be using. Firstly, stretched canvas board along with the azel and the size we are using is eight by 10 ". Second, very important palette knives, we are using three different sizes. The first one is 2030. The second one is 20, one, zero, and third one is three double 04. We'll be using a flat palette to mix colors. Fourth is a pencil and a couple of brushes to finish painting. Let's come down to the paints that we are using. The brand we are using is camel. The first color is cadmium red 041, black, any black, zinc white 496, and then odiana hue, which is 453, then raw ciana three double six, cadmium lemon, 038, burnt umber, 032, and then Vermilion hue 449, permanent yellow medium 338. Next is burned Siana 031. Varnish to finish our sunflower with a beautiful glassy look. Tissue, cloth, and water to clean our palette knives and brushes. In the next class, we learn about how to outline the sunflower, along with that, the basics of palette knife, see you. I 3. Outlining the Sunflower & Coloring the Disk (9:01): Hello, and welcome back. In this class, we will learn about outlining the sunflower along with painting the disc of the flower. Let us start with outlining our sunflower. We're making a semscle here. Start with the end of your canvas. Let's make roughly petals of the sunflower. We'll just repeat making the entire petals. On to the next thing. Let's start coloring our sunflower. We're using burned Siana, raw siana and burnt ambo. Start with filling the circle from the edges. We're taking the lighter share of the brown. We'll be switching with light and the darker shade of the brown. While using the palette knife, the pressure we apply needs to be very light. We have to be very light handed on our pressure. Pull the remaining part of the socle. We're using permanent green light, iana hue, black, carbam red, and some white. Before switching to lighter shades, always make sure to clean your knife with a cloth. And let's take some green along with some yellow. So the portions we are taking, we have to take half green and half yellow. We're just dabbing it in the circle remaining portion of the circle. Let's take some brown. We'll continue with the dabbing technique. Et's spread onto the entire circle. More brown. Keep continuing with the dabbing technique. Clean your palette knife. Some black. Only on the edges of the sunflower circle. Continuing with the same dabbing technique. We'll evenly spread the black across the circle. Okay. Slightly mix them with the base colors that we added. Onto the edges a little darker on the edges. Et's take some brown. Mix it with the black. All throughout, we are still using the dab technique. Clean your knife. And the last color you're using is zinc white. So the whites we use is just for the shine of the sunflower. We'll be randomly dabbing it onto the entire circle. Clean your palette knife. Slightly mix it with the base color. And we are done with the semscle of the sunflower. In the next class, we will learn about colouring the petals. See you there. 4. Texturing the Petals with a Palette Knife (15:37): Hello, and welcome back. In this class, we will learn about coloring the petals with the palette knife. So we'll be learning how much pressure to apply with the knife and the basics of making shapes and textures with the palette knife. The colors we are using is cadmium lemon, burn Siana, permanent yellow medium, raw siana, vermilion hue, burnt umber. So we will be learning in two steps how much pressure to apply with the palette knife and draw the shape of the sunflower petals. Take knife full of some lemon yellow and hold the knife like this. Put a pressure from your first finger. Press it, and then drag it vertically downwards and repeat the process in the same towards the right side. Now we are on taking some burnt amber. We're just giving some shades. Gently drag the color towards the down. So that's how we will be drawing entire sunflower petals. Let's take some lemon yellow, along with the darker shade of the orange. We're mixing both the colors separately on a knife. Hold the knife upside down. Hold the knife in this position. Apply pressure only on the tip of the knife. Gently drag the knife till the tip of the petal. Spread the color evenly. Hold the knife towards your side. Drag it in the opposite direction. Clean your knife. Each time we finish with one petal, it's important to clean the knife. We are repeating with the same colors and the same portion. Follow the same step. Gently drag your knife till the tip of the petal. Repeat the process. Be careful in the edges. Clean your knife. Same colors again. Tilt your knife. Till the tip of the petal. Sell the pato. In the edges, we only supposed to use the tip of the knife. In your knife. Same colors again. Follow the process. Drag it gently. For the bigger petals, we might have to take the colors twice. The nine. Taking the same colour, repeating the process. Fill the petal. Sean the knife? Let's start with the last pethel. Drag it till the tip. Remember to be gentle when applying the pressure on the tip of the knife. Turn the knife upside down. Continue with the colors. Let's move to the bigger size of the petal since we have more color on the knife. Hold your knife 180 degrees. Be gentle while applying the pressure in the tip of the petal. Drag it. Keep dragging it. A 180 degrees. Gently drag the colours. Move the palette 180 degrees clockwise. I'm drying. Fill the petal. All the same process across all the petals. Be careful and the edges. Hold your knife upside down. It we came to the last petal. Let's take more colour. Pull the knife upside down. Et's fill the gaps in the petal giving it a finishing look. Color all the white spaces. Once you're done, clean your knife. Hope this class brought you confidence in handling the palette knife. In the next class, we will learn about giving depth to the petals. See you there. 5. Bringing Petals to Life : Adding Depth & Color (5:19): Hello, and welcome back. In this class, we will learn about giving depth to the petals. We are taking some cadmium red and vermilion hue. Mixing it with yellow. Bring it two shades down. H. This is the shade. A shade lighter than the brown and darker than the yellow. Edges of the petal. Just make the line. Keep dabbing from the center. Repeat the process. Bigger the fetal, more the color. Repeat the cess to all the petals. Gently also mix with the background color. Let's mix the color again. Bringing it to the same shade. Let's repeat the process. We are fully finished with the petals and the sunflower. In the next class, we will learn about sharing the backgrounds. See you there. 6. Final Touches : Shading the Background & Varnishing the Artwork (11:33): Hello, and welcome back. In this class, we will learn about shading the background along with varnishing the artwork. So for the background, we are free to use any color that suits, you know, petals and flower. It can be either the contrast or you are free to choose any color of your liking which goes good with the artwork. We are choosing white and black. Let's mix it and make it gray. That's take more white. We will be mixing it roughly and not fully mixing it and bringing it to one shade. Fill your knife with the color, start with the edges. Use it horizontally, apply pressure on the sides of the knife and drag it. But Repeat the process. Fill the entire background. More colour. Even textured. Careful towards the edges of the petal. Let's mix more colour. Bringing it to almost similar share. I love the thing. Oh all the gaps? Let's do the bigger area first. The top. A Okay. For some of us, it gets a little tricky to do the edges of the petals with a knife, so we can make use of brush, dip the brush in the paint. Carefully cover all the edges. Keep the paint thick, following the texture. Called on radio. All the white spaces. Let us also paint the sides of the canvas. Let's repeat the process on all the four sides. So finishing our artwork, we'll have to varnish spray the artwork. Make sure while varnishing, cover your nose and mouth. And this brings us to the end of this course. Hope it brought an experience in handling a palette knife, along with creating a beautiful sunflower. I would love to see what you guys have created. Click a picture and tag us on Instagram.
