If it sounds like it's the right fit for you, please enroll in the course right now.
2. Intro: everyone welcome to stop being tone deaf. No, but seriously, my name is Adam Machinima singer songwriter, A vocal coach. And today, what we're gonna be doing is we're gonna be teaching you how to sing on pitch. So, as a vocal coach, I have a YouTube channel on that YouTube channel. Unfortunate enough to have 180,000 subscribers. My singing transformation video has 3.6 million views. I don't say this to brag. I just want to show you guys that you're learning from the right person. Let me give you a short snippet of how tone deaf I waas when I started singing Take a listen. Yeah, I know. I was really toned. If it's okay, can laugh. I know you're laughing. It's fine. And now this is what I sound like today. Me, Theo. What I mean to show you is that you can make a change to your voice. You can go from being tone deaf to recognizing pitch and being able to sing on pitch. Not only that, I have dozens of students that I've worked with that I have taken from not being able to carry a tune to singing very well. I've even had a couple of students that were instrumentalists and were able to tune instruments by ear, but they weren't able to sing on pitch. Now you might be asking yourself, Hey, Adam, how is it that they're able to understand the pitch when it comes to hearing? But they're not able to reproduce it? That's a good question. And the main reason is because there's a disconnect between their vocal cords, their vocal cords, and they're here realizing this led to a revolutionary approach to singing using biofeedback. What I realize is you can't teach somebody to sing in tune by getting them to sing in tune . It just doesn't work. If you could get them to sing in tune, they would already be doing it. Instead, we're going to get your ear communicating with your vocal cords to get you singing on pitch
3. Lesson Plan: this course is intended to be completed over four weeks. Any you're gonna find four different lessons, each one of the lessons is going to get gradually and gradually more difficult for you to be able to follow along with. If you're tone deaf, the goal is by Week two. You'll have learned what has already been taught in Week one, and you'll be able to do a more difficult task and so on and so forth through the weeks. Feel free to take a much time as you need. So if you want to take two weeks for Lesson one and then jump in the lesson to, that's perfectly fine. I don't feel like you have to stick to this regimen. It's just a basic guideline for most people. For Week one, we're going to delve into feedback that comes from a visual place, so we're gonna be connecting the experience. The sensation of singing the hearing of the sound with the visual aspect of seeing the pitch happen day to our feedback system is going to be based on sensation, feeling something that will give you feedback whether or not your on pitch. Week three. Lesson three is gonna focus more on getting you up to speed and increasing your accuracy of singing pitches with an instrument. Weak foreign lesson for gonna focus on higher level of complexity while including scales. All right, so without further ado, let's jump into lesson one.
4. Week 1: for this lesson, all you require is a smartphone. Do you have a smartphone? It doesn't matter whether it is an android or a iPhone. That's perfectly fine. Both are gonna work. What I need you to do is go on your phone, go to the APP store or Google play and type in chromatic tuner. Go ahead, do that now. Now that you have a chromatic tuner again, it doesn't matter which one. You get there all really the same. They basically do the same thing, so pull it up on your phone. When you do, you'll be greeted with a platform that looks a little bit like this says You can see there are letters on the screen and there's a dial that tells you where you are. Within those letters, each letter represents a different note. Now you're going to notice that there's certain repeated letters you'll see there's an F and next to it, an F with a hashtag. That hashtag means sharp, sharp means above the note for our purposes with singing device it to say that each one of those letters, whether it has the hash tag or not, is a separate note from the other ones, so F n f sharp are different notes now because we're all gonna be using different types of chromatic tuners. You may have a chromatic tuner with a little be symbol. That little bee symbol symbolizes a flat note, but the same thing applies there, as does with the Hashtags. We're going to take them all is separate notes onto themselves. Now your main practice is gonna go with the audio portion of this lesson, but for this one, I'm just going to demonstrate what you're generally going to be doing. You'll also notice that the letters range from A to G. That's because those are the notes within a scale. There are more notes than just eight notes. It goes above and beyond that. But anything above that repeats itself. It's called a new octave, but the key things super simple. Let's not worry about octaves right now. Let's just worry about the individual pitches and trying to sing on them in the audio portion. You're going to notice that there's actual keys that I'm gonna be hitting piano keys Now your job is to be here with your smartphone, and your APP opened up on it. And you're going to try to match the pitch of the keys that I play with your voice. Now, what helps about this is that you can actually see a visual representation of your pitch from your voice on the APP. Let's give you an example. I don't have a keyboard here, but let's pretend that this is keyboard. No. Um Right. So I think ended up around a c Mm. Yeah, that's around to see. So now what we're gonna try to do is reproduce that with our voice. Who? Well, right, we're able to reproduce it. Let's say you're not able to reproduce it. So we're going, uh, and then you go. Mm. We blow it. So what you're going to see is that it ends up. I wanted to be at sea, but I ended up below the note. So what we're gonna do is from that know where you land trying to slide up to that note. Ah, who? And So, by sliding up to that note, we're able to adjust our our pitch muscles to get into that pitch. Now, what you want to avoid doing is trying to take shots in the dark and trying to go. Who? Because if you're trying that approach, you're never gonna find it. The key to find it is to make small, incremental adjustments to the vocal chords while holding and sustaining the know who. By making those small, minor adjustments, you're going to eventually find a pitch. The same thing applies for hitting above the pitch. You may need to slide out Ooh, sliding down to the pitch and you're going to get better at trying to make small, small increments. So we don't want to make huge increments. We wanted just trying to do small, small increments to find for just shy of the note, who, making those smaller increments are extremely important. And the more you practice with this, the better you're gonna get at it. So that makes everything clear. Go on, head over to the audio portion of this lesson. I'll see you in the next one
5. Tuner OO: all right. So, as you know, for this lesson, we're gonna need the chromatic tuner, so make sure you have that in front of you. Now we're gonna be playing specific notes, each one of the notes you're gonna try to match once the tuner tells you exactly which pitch it is. Once you listen to the pitch and see the representation of that pitch on your chromatic tuner, then you are going to try to reproduce that with an ooh sound. Keep in mind that this is meant for both men and women. If it feels like it's a little bit out of your range, whether it's too low or too high, just try to jump the octave to a place where it is comfortable. Let's begin. - Ah ah ah ah ah yeah ah ah
6. Tuner OO Mixed-up: All right, So now that we've gone through it sequentially, what we want to try to do is mix it up and get your year to start to get used to doing notes out of sequence. Right there went from note to note in semi tone breaks and just a note. In general, if you find that you don't have enough time to be able to sing and find that pitch before the next pitch is hit, take a break. There's no problem to pause it and try to find that pitch first and then continue on with the exercise after that. Ah ah ah ah uh yeah ah ah ah ah yeah ah
7. Week 2: biz Next lesson includes a little bit of an understanding of Harmonix. Harmonix is where you have a root tone and then multiple pitches that are being resonated or vibrating above that Ruto. So as in the last lesson you may have on our piano a rude tone of a C. But you're going to see other pitches. You're gonna be able to hear other pitches that are vibrating or resonating at the same time. So you don't believe me? Check out this demonstration to hear how a piano has within it. Multiple notes that are being hit all at the same time. What do you hear? You are clearly hearing the first overtone vibrating sympathetically, an octave above its fundamental I hope you heard it. Did you listen again? Um, clear. Isabel. There are certain sounds that are not harmonically rich, like a piano or a guitar. And these air called sine waves. What is a sine wave? Well, good question. I'm not sure if you're old enough, but if you do remember when you had those old television sets and those bars would come on the screen and it would go dead and we just go Ah, I would just be this annoying single tone that is a sine wave. It is completely devoid of any harmonic content. It is only pure tone. Now we're going to use this to our advantage. They may be annoying to listen to, but they could be hyper effective when coming toe learn pitch because this sound is pure pitch one single pitch. When you sing, you're able to hear when your voice buffets against the pitch itself. So you'll I actually experienced within your body a feeling of tension when you're not on the pitch. Once you do hit the pitch, then your body feels more relaxed, more calm. Let me give you guys a demonstration. Now, before we start. I'm just doing this for demonstration purposes. I highly recommend you use a good pair of headphones or a good pair of speakers when you're doing this so that you can get the full effect of the sound. You want it to be relatively loud so that you're not hearing your voice completely over the sound. But this is going to give you an idea what it sounds like when we're trying to hit these pitches. So here is a sine wave now hope the microphone is picking this up. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna try to hit that pitch on who and what I do. I'm gonna try to slide around and show you guys the dissonance that's created when I'm below the pitch and then the harmony that's created when I hit the pitch So you can hear there as I move below the pitch. And as I moved above the pitch, there was quite a dissonant sound that was created. You're gonna get this experience much more intensely when it comes time to do it in the actual audio. That's gonna follow this lesson. I just wanted to give you an idea of how it works, and then your goal is to try to slide around and find that perfect pitch. All right, so hop on over to the audio and I'm going to see you in the next lesson.
8. Sine wave OO: As you know, from watching the video, this is going to be the sine wave exercise going to start sequentially here. But then as we go to the next MP three, we're going to mix it up to test your ear a little bit, - okay ?
9. Sine Wave Mixed-Up: This is the sine wave exercise with the notes mixed up so that were training your pitch a little bit deeper.
10. Week 3: This next lesson is going to use a piano. Now that you're getting better at recognizing pitch now we're going from simple tone to harmonically complex. This makes it much more difficult to be able to follow along. But I'm sure you guys are gonna be able to do it because you've already gone through the 1st 2 lessons. What you're gonna find in the audio portion of this lesson are single piano notes. The piano note is gonna play at first, Then your job is to try to match that pitch, and then a piano notes gonna be repeated again to confirm whether or not you hit the pitch . The goal here is to get as accurate as possible with harmonically complex sounds as well. Because look at the end of the day, I've never heard a song that was made up of just sine waves and thank God So your voice has to get used to being accompanied by music that is harmonically rich. So everything is clear hobbling over to the audio program. I'll see in the next lesson
11. Single Note Ah: as you've seen from the video, this is going to be a no plate on the piano giving you time to match the pitch and then the no plate again to confirm whether or not you hit the right pitch. We're gonna be doing this exercise on an Aw uh ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah uh yeah.
12. Single Note Ah Mixed Up: in this exercise, we're going to do the same thing as the last exercise. But we're gonna mix up all the notes so that it tests your pitch a little bit better. Yeah. Ah, ah ah ah ah ah Uh ah ah ah ah ah, yeah. Uh uh!
13. Week 4: All right, so welcome back. We're in the homestretch. This one's going to take what we did last week into a whole new level. Now we're gonna be involving, not just pitch itself. We're gonna be involving scales. So we're going to start to get a little bit more complex, Getting used to moving with pitch, not just staying still in stagnant because of the end of the day. No song that I know is one note. So what you're gonna find the audio portion of this lesson are different. Simple three tone scales and what I want you to do is try to follow along with those scales as they go. So what they're gonna be is Dahdouh. 12321 again, we're keeping it simple, because I know it's all new for you guys were trying to take baby steps through this process. So stick with me now. The goal as you go through these scales is to do it under Ah, so we're gonna go. Ah, uh, we're gonna try to match those pitches. Keeping in a llegado phrase. Llegado is where it's smooth and connected, not broken up and staccato. Now, don't worry about going into the extremes of your range. Here we're just focused on pitch accuracy. Onley. We're not worried about extending your rage right now. We don't want to get too involved in too many things all at once. So if it feels uncomfortable, stop. Come back down or drop the octave if you're able to. So if you feel like you benefited from this course and you feel like your voice is getting better and you want to take it to the next level, I would highly recommend go to my 30 days to a better voice course. That course is the most comprehensive course that I have out. It really begins at this stage and takes you all the way through everything you need to know about the voice through 30 days of vocal mastery. So that explains it, hopping over to the audio portion of this lesson. It's been a pleasure teaching you this far
14. 3 tone Ah: in this exercise, we're gonna be doing a three tone scale on and, ah, as you go through it. Ah ah ah ah ah the O.
