1. Intro: Hey everyone, my name
is Adam Michelle, singer-songwriter
and vocal coach. And welcome to this warm-up. So why should you
be watching this warm up and be learning
singing for me? Well, I have a
YouTube channel with over 450 thousand
subscribers on YouTube. And I got there by showing people my tenure
transformation of how I started with very
little talent and eventually got to be
able to sing quite well. So the reason why you
should learn from me is because I've been there, I've struggled through the same struggles that
you're going through. And I came out on
the other side. So that's really, really
important to know. Now as well, what
we're gonna be doing here is a fun
step-by-step warm-up. It's not going to be
a boring piano scale that you're going to have
to follow on your own. We're going to work together. I'm going to walk you through everything that I'm
gonna be doing here. And I'm going to show you every single scale as an example. So my voice is going to
be right there with you. You just follow along with me. We're gonna be making
some weird noises, which is going to make it fun. It's going to make
it interesting. So we're going to really follow together as we move
through this exercise. Now, when we're moving
through the exercises, I want you to be recording
process as your project. So every class here is
going to have a project that I want you to show in the discussion and
project section. So what, what I wanted to
do before you start this? So right now, prop up your smartphone over
on this side so that you can video
yourself and record yourself as you do
these exercises. And that way you can review it afterwards and post it
up for everybody else to see exactly what
you're doing and how to improve and make improvements as
you go through it. The idea here is for this
to be a daily thing. So you come back, you do the warm up, you
record yourself, you here exactly
what's going wrong and you make improvements
the next time you record, so on and so forth. So that's exactly what I
want this course to be. If you want to find a little bit more
resources on myMethod, on who I'm all about
my other courses, please check out my website, www dot am vocal studios.com. Over there. I've got lots of
resources, lots of courses, lots of lessons that I can
run through with you live. And if you want to go there, I'm happy to work
with you one-on-one. Go ahead and check that
out without further ado. Let's jump in to
today's warm up.
2. Pre recording Warm up: Hey everyone, I'm gonna be
running you through a warm-up to get you ready for
singing the studio, laying down the next track, or just working with GarageBand
at home or in a studio, whatever it might be, this is going to get you
prepped for exactly what you need to be able to be
performance ready for, heading into that, in
front of that Mike, and being able to sing your
best possible performance. So without further ado, let's jump straight into
the very first exercise. This is going to
be a follow along. So I'm not gonna talk
much in the exercises. We're just going to run
through it together.
3. EE slide: Alright, so the process
and the thought behind this warm up is going
to be starting us off, no matter where you're at. Very, very slowly, very
lightly into the voice and diving in deeper
and deeper as we move through the warm-up. So we're gonna be starting
with a very soft E slide. So follow me the two keys
here that I want you to make sure that you're
not doing is going loud. So go as quiet as possible, try to make it that it's almost inaudible for the recording
that you're making right now. Tried to make it
that you can't hear. Like imagine you're trying to avoid having other
people hear you. Then the other
thing is to make it as non-binary as possible. So as little sound in with the actual
vocal sound with it. So let's jump straight in here. We're gonna go smile
while you do it. Maybe go nice and slow. Maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe. My voice clipped out
there for a second, didn't want to push
or forced through it. So I just kinda let
it ride out and that's part of the
beginning of the warm-up. See what your voice
is going to give you. It may give you less or
more than it's giving me. But you wanted to just try to not push her force any of this? Just keep it super soft. I generally, generally recommend anybody who's doing
this warm-up, try to nudge it into one or two semitones pass
where it's absolutely easy. And tried to find
ease into those. That's where it's
cutting now for me. No, not wanting to go there. So we're gonna come back down. Listening it. That's alright. Keep going. Keep on cutting out on the top. So not going to push it,
I'm not going to force it. But if it just doesn't want
to go, it doesn't want to go. I want to go down. Again, the downward. Don't make any sound. There. We go. And checking it, the volume, I think I'm going
a little too loud. Also at the bottom. Great job.
4. Straw 5th Slide: Alright, so next we're
going to do one of my favorite exercises to do to get the voice warmed up in a shorter period of
time as possible. And that is the straw exercise. If you don't have a straw
quickly run and go grab one. They're super cheap. You can go grab them
from grocery store. The thinner the better. So let's run through a slide
scale that we're gonna do. We're gonna do fifths
here, we're gonna go. Now, unlike the other exercise, we're going to try to go quite into the forte of the voice. So we're going to try to go
quite loud as we do this. Try to keep the throne
nice and relaxed. We want to use the
abdominals for this. I just wanted to note
something that my voice is doing is that little
vibrato at the top. It's not actually on purpose. It's just a little bit of instability actually
in my voice. So it's to tell you that I'm not doing that on purpose and if you don't have that, That's better. I'm going to try
to stabilize it, but I'm not going to
do with any force. I tried to just ride through any blockages or
stuff like that. Also, instead of
clearing your throat, it's much better to try to
sniff twice and then swallow. So I could have gotten
too clear on my throat, but that actually is going
to cause damage over time and use of the
voice like that. We want to try to do a non vocalized
clearing of the throat. So a non vocalized clearing
your throat. Sniff twice. Swallow down any
sort of mucus that's built up on the vocal chords
will be swallowed down. If there's no real
clearing of the throat. What that might tell you is that what you've got on the
chords is not mucus, but it is actually some swelling going on the chords
that the body is telling you is actually flame, but it's not flat, but it's just tissue hanging out there. The eye that tend do that. Try to ride straight through any sort of clicks and
bridges on or sorry, clicks and pops in the voice. Don't push. Every notice that things are
getting a little bit tight. Try to move your head
around, keep it loose. And subsidized.
Bending this draw makes moving your head a little bit easier. Great job.
5. Bub 5 tone: In the next exercise, we're
going to be doing a book. When we do this exercise, we want to try to hold onto the continent for as
long as possible. So instead of going baba, baba, we want to go. But, but, but, but let's do it. But boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop. But boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop. Try to think of it as
being very explosive, but really popping that
sound off the lips. Boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, little flat
on that top note. Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop Bob. But boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop,
boop, boop, boop. Great job.
6. Song Pratice: So if you followed all of the previous steps
to the warm-up, now you are ready to start singing the song
and just prep it before you actually hop
in front of the mic and start singing
for the recording. So this is the last step to get you ready for
the pre-recording. In order to avoid
copyright issues, I'm just going to
be using my own, my own song so that it's obviously not
copyright infringement. So let's do it. I'll show
you how I go about it. First, I would start
a little softer. Trust in me If you
let me go to tie, just gave me a chance
to show Yossi, right? I love will only grow. So I'm starting soft. Many thoughts to share, harder to breathe. Please learn me. For a wanna sing him to
the world with data. I'll be moving boomerang. I'll come right back to you. I'll be writing your writing
all fly right back to you. I'll be here. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. This way you're kinda
building into that, building up momentum,
getting into it. Now I'm starting to go
a little bit fuller. Can give me. And that's okay because
I'm only going to leave you for a couple days. I wanted no, never
want to run away. Totally forgot my own words. Even though I know it's
hard to understand. So again, I'm only to you. Let me be there, man. I'm sending up
because, you know, deep down I can live in and do what I say, making
sure we're breathing. Baby, boom, boom. I'll come to you. I'll be your boomerang. All fly array bags. You you I'll be oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. I'm coming around them. Come in with the Flickr, your swing it around. I'm coming around. I'm coming in with a Flickr, your wrist. I'm going down. I'm coming back down. I'm come in with a yummy
style mid swing it around. I'm coming back down. Come and knock down. With the Plaka, your
service dummies me around. I'm coming back down
how I'm comin where the non hobby me call
me right back to you. Owe me only one. Only one. Only one. Only one, only one. I'll be coming right back. And it's as simple
as that. We want to start off going a little
bit softer into the voice, a little bit easier. And then you want to
build up momentum. You want to build up volume, you want to build up intensity. When you feel like
that's going really well and that's pretty much
performance level. Then you're ready
to hop in front of the mic, do recording. And I guarantee this will be a better recording than any of the ones that you've
done before, a warm up. So check it out, give it a try. Let me know how it goes. Record your your process
as you're doing this, and then send us
the final recording in the project section, it'd be really
cool to be able to review how you guys did
after this full warm-up.
7. Outro: Thank you so much for joining me on today's vocal warm-up. I hope you feel loose.
I hope you feel limber. Hope your throat is feeling
nice and easy and smooth, and you're able to sing
easier than you ever could. Go ahead, go and
sing a few songs, sing what you normally would
have difficulty singing, and see if it just gets
a little bit easier. Most likely you're
going to find that you're singing is gonna be a
lot smoother, a lot easier, a lot more accurate from
after the exercises, from before the exercises. As always, please be sure
to check out my website, www dot m vocal studios.com. That's where you're
going to get live access to me through my subscription, through my private one-on-one lessons, whatever you prefer. You can definitely go
there and find out more details on me and what
I do outside of Skillshare. And speaking of
which on Skillshare, we've got lots of these
warm-up routines. So please feel free to
go through my profile, find all of my
Skillshare warm-ups, run through them daily. Pick and choose whichever
one you want to work on. Let's say one day you
want to work on the mix. One day you want to work on a
little bit more head voice. Feel free to mix and match, find what works for you. So without further ado, that's the end of this course. I really appreciate you
joining me along for the ride. Please make sure to
upload your project to the project section so that other people
can follow along, see your progress over time, and see how things improve. Because this really will make a big difference
over the long term.
