1. Introduction: Hi, This course is
a complete guide on how to get better at
singing on pitch. Listen to this. The iron gates, veins, the sign where
you see it was good. But the moments I
went off parish, it becomes unbearable
to listen to. And that's why I think the
ability to sing on pitches, the most important
thing, singing, because even if you have the
best voice in the world, but you don't single pitch. You're not going to set up good. Now it's important to mention
that it doesn't matter if someone is a bigger singer
or an advanced one. It happens for all of us to
seeing some known soft pitch. So it's really
important to work on it and work on our
ability to better control our pitch and to minimize the off knows
as much as we can. And this course is
all about this. To give you the tips, information and all the
exercises you need to improve your pitch accuracy and controlled while
you're singing. Now if you're at a corner,
if singer that can almost always sing on page, skip this course and
invest your time into improving other
parts of your voice, the weaker parts of
your singing ability. But if you were to kind
of singer that really has difficulty to stay on
pitch even for one phrase. Or you're a senior that
sometimes goes off pitch, or you're somewhere
in between these two, definitely use this course. It will help you get better.
2. Overview: Now, to give you
a quick overview, the course is starts with the terms like what
is singing off pitch, what is singing off key, the wars and the terms you need to understand before starting. Because we need to use the same dictionary in order to better communicate
with each other. And the first lecture will
provide exactly that. I've heard that I teach
you why you might sink of pitch so that you really understand the roots of your
problem before trying to solve it with the exercises you'll learn now
about the exercises. They will be in the order
of difficulty so that you can start out at
a comfortable level. Step-by-step,
improve your ability to sing with better pitch
control and accuracy. So it really doesn't matter if an exercises too hard
or too easy for you. If, for example, you
have so much difficulty, you can start with the
first exercise and gradually build your way up to the more difficult exercises. Or if the first exercises
or too easy for you, you can skip them
and go forward. The more difficult ones, you can do all of the
exercises on your own or use the files that I
attached to each exercise. And for more ease of use, there's two different
files for each exercise. One is a demo file that has my voice as a demo to guide you. And one is an MP3 file that
does not have any voice demo. Now, Jenna, start with
the demo file and gradually as you get more
comfortable with the exercise, go and practice with
DAMPs your file. I should also mention that
all of the exercises, whether the demo files
or the MPG or false, coming two different versions, one for male singers and
one for females to lower the chance of any war
called range issues you might experience while
you're practicing. For the last lecture, I
will teach you how to get more out of your practice. So the ultimate goal
of this course is to teach you how to
practice and use exercises daily to improve your overall ability to sing with better pitch
accuracy and control. Now, let's start.
3. Terms: You heard the term
singing off pitch, singing off key and
singing out of tune. What do they mean? Well, first you should know that singing of pitch is just the same
as singing out of tune. And when you are singing
of pitch or out of tune, you can be sharp or flat. By sharp, I mean, you are singing higher than the actual note that
you should be singing. For example, this
is the right notes. Now, if I go off
pitch or out of tune, I might go sharp
means a bit higher. I'm sharp right now, or I can go flat, meaning lower than
the actual nodes. Now, what is singing off key
and what's the difference between singing of CI
and singing of pitch? Let's say you want to
sing, for example, fades. And instead of this
is singular like this with the iron. So fades. It's still on pitch, but it's off key. So when you sing off key, you can be still on pitch. Whereas singing off pitch, it's something,
something like this. They are on. So fades. It's somewhat more obvious
than singing off key. Now, what mostly causes you
to singing off key is that you're not comfortable enough with the actual key of the song. For example, it might
be too high for you. So you unconsciously Lord The key to make it somewhat
easier for yourself. And you might not even realize that you are singing
the song of key. If singing off key is one of your problems in your singing, you can easily fix it by
simply changing the key of the song and bring
it to where it's more comfortable
for you to sing. The hard part about
seeing if key is to just realize you're
singing off key. And the exercises in this
course will definitely help you to get better at
noticing such problems. And the more you practice, the sharper your ears, we'll get to notice
any pitch problem you might have while
you're singing.
4. Why You Sing Off Pitch: What causes singing off pitch? It can have two reasons. The first reason, which is also the one that we're
going to focus on in this course is the lack of
mind, muscle coordination. Some people have a good
mind muscle coordination between their ears and
their instruments. And they can easily seemed on pitch and it seems like it's already built-in them. Now, some people habits, but not quite developed, and some people don't
have it at all. By not having it at all. I don't mean being tone deaf. If you can hear that these two nodes are different
than you or not tone deaf, it's a very rare
medical condition. So if you can't sing on pitch, you just lack the
proper coordination. And the goal of this course is exactly to teach you
how to practice and train your voice and your ears to better
coordinate with each other. One water, if your voice, your instruments cannot actually and properly produce the sound. That's the second reason why
you might think of pitch. And most of the time the problem I see my students have
that don't let them sing on pitch is that
they don't know how to properly sink and how
to use their voice, their instruments the right way. So their main problem is the lack of control
over their voice. So that's why they
sing of pitch. For example, if you tend
to seem somewhat like this, the wrong game, face and your voice
is under pressure, then you're definitely going
to sink off pitch because you're not using your
instruments the right way. But this course will
not concern itself with teaching you how
to properly sink. And for that, I can use
my other course called How to sync the ultimate
vocal exercises.
5. EX.1: Now it's fair to
have an instruments like a keyboard or a piano, or any instruments
application just like this on your phone or laptop ready so that you can
practice along with me. And if not, that's fine. Why should demonstrations
so you learn how to practice on
your own later. You can also use
the demo files or the MPG falls that I've
provided for each exercise. Let's start play note
and sing with it. And see if you're
on pitch like this, or off like this. Or now. If you are too good
at this exercise, for example, you can match every nod your heads,
something like this. You can skim this exercise
angle for the next one. Now if you don't
know what you're singing is wrong or right, or, you know it's wrong, but you don't know if
it's sharp or flat and how you can hit the right notes, you can simply move
the notes that you're singing up or down to see if you get closer or further away from the
node that you're hitting. For example, I'm on
pitch right now. Now, imagine that I sing
this nodes instead. Now I move the nodes up
to see what happens. Now I'm on pitch. Now imagine if I moved
it down instead. It's obvious that
I'm getting further away from the node that
I'm heading, please. If you don't get it
right away, don't worry. You need time. You need to practice daily, play random notes
for 51020 minutes a day and try to match the
notes that you're hitting. After some time, you will
definitely get better at it. So have patience.
8. EX.2: Now for the second exercise, you played a note so you
don't sync with it like this. You first lesson. Recall it in your head. And Vincent, good. And if it's not there, for example, try again. Now I'm on pitch. So the only difference
between this exercise on the previous one is that
you don't sink while you're playing your
first lesson and then recall it in your
head and saying it while you are doing here is
that you're training your brain to listen to
notes more carefully, remember those nodes
and recall them. And there are some
things you really need to keep in mind while
you're doing this exercise. The first thing is
that it does not matter how much time it
takes to find a note. It takes ten minutes
to find OneNote, 20 minutes, 30 minutes. You're working on
a skill you read. You really need
to have patients. The second thing is
to not hesitate in your head here in the
notes and be decisive. Just seeing it. Don't hesitate. If you hesitate and if
you're not decisive, you're going to
sing it off pitch, doesn't matter or how you're
going to sing it off pitch. So be decisive. It's
really fine to be wrong. It's really fine to be wrong. You will learn from it
and then you fix it. The third thing is
that you should not slide to nourish the
notes you want like this. Only accept one
naught from yourself. Don't see me like, it's
really a bad habit to develop in your voice to start from a wrong note and then a slide
to reach the right one. You're just hitting one nodes. So you will see only
one naught be decisive. And if it's not
there, you try again.
9. EX.2 demo male: Um
11. Tuner : If you have a lot
of difficulties matching the notes
you're playing, or you don't even know whether you're singing the
same notes or not. For example, you played this, is saying this and you
don't know what you can do to match it or you play
it. And he's saying this. And you don't know if
what you're singing is the same as what
you're playing or not? Well, what he can do to
make it a bit easier for yourself is to get
help from a tuner app. This is my favorite tuner, it's called vocal pitch
monitor is free for Android, but I don't know about iOS. Most tuner apps
will do the work. So download a bunch of them and see which one
you liked the most. Now, let's play notes. E4. Now let's sing it.
B2. So this way, you know, if you're
on pitch or not, and if you're off, like now, whether you need to
go up or down and how much you need to go in order to match your
notes you're playing. For example, let's
play in R nought, G4. Now let's sing it. The tuner shows us that I'm
singing a sharp four. So I need to go down in order to match the
notes. I'm playing. Another example, a sharp three. You see I'm singing
the right notes, some, somewhat known, but
one octave lower. And this happens a lot. And you might think you
are singing derived node, body or one octave lower. Now it's the right nodes. So it's a great tool to help
you with finding your pitch. But there are some problems that comes along
with using a tuner. And the first one is
that it's not meant to help you find your pitch
in a precise amount. You should not use it. For example, like this. I'm a bit to the left, It's a bit to the right. You don't have to fix
it right at the nodes. By seeing the tuner. It will become an
ongoing battle that do more harm than good and
leave you really frustrated. And why you might ask, because you're trying to find the exact notes with your eyes. Because you're trying to find the exact node with your
eyes, nuts, your ears. So use the tuner or let's
say get help from it. Just to give yourself and
your ears an extra hand. So just use it for knowing
where you are singing at and whether you need to go up or
down to match your notes, it just gives you more
awareness and that's all. So don't put it in
front of yourself and trying to match knows
precisely like this. Now the second problem I want
to talk about is that it's the job of your ear to
find notes, not your eyes. Just get held from
tuner when you are in total doubt and you cannot find the notes or you don't
know if it's there or not. I say use it 5, 10% of the time. More than that might
make you become dependence to always use it
and you don't want that. The goal of all these
practices is to improve your ears,
nose, your eyes. So if you use tuner after
you become better at sensing where you're singing in your range and you could
judge your pitch better. Stop using the tuner. Don't forget that
our goal is to build a proper coordination and not customer ourselves to always rely on a tool to
help us sing pitch. Nerve thing about
using tuner rafts, that's worth mentioning
is that the tool is not accurate 100% of the
time it might seem D4. But in my show you d Phi because of the
resonance of the room, or because you might singing
too loud or whatever, or it might hear a noise. So all doing it's a great tool. Don't be 100% sure about it.
12. EX.3: Now the third exercise is
just like the second one, but we add more notes to it. So instead of one note, we play three notes. And if it's not there,
you try unseal. It matches the notes
that you're playing. And be decisive. Don't hesitate. It's just a trial
and error game. You simply learn from your
mistakes and you get better. Now, if this exercise is
somewhat easy for you, you can make it harder by
using the shortest and the longest intervals to
get her not a shortest seen several in Western music
is a half-step like this. Or it's hard because it's hard to make slight
changes in your voice. But if you really
want to get good at your ribs and runs
or your vibrato, you really want to
practice half-steps. Now by long intervals, I mean something like this. Now if you combine
these together, you really make it difficult
melody for yourself. You can make this exercise even harder by adding
more nodes. Lie. For example. Let's add another.
15. EX.4: So far every exercise
you practice worked with playing
random notes. But what about scales? Practicing with
scales due to L2? Let me put it this way. Whatever forces your
brain to memorize and recall different frequencies
will be helpful to you. Now these frequencies can be random or they can be in scale. So playing scales and
practicing with them can be a great way to improve your pitch accuracy and control. And among all the
scales we have, my favorite one by far
is the chromatic scale. Because it's all half-steps and it's great for pitch control. Or.
20. How To Practice: Let's answer some key
questions about your practice. What should be the actual
sound you're seeing with while you're
practicing your exercises. Or what's the best
sound to practice with. If your goal is to improve your pitch, you
have two options. One is to practice with an
open mouth sound like in Mar, or a closed mouth sound
like you're home. Now, at first you might want to stick to the one
that's easier for you, but I strongly suggest you
to practice with a home. Why? Because something like MR. lets you change the
tonality so easily. But a harm is a hub. You can change it that much. It's more pure pitch. It's more about the pitch, then it's about the tone. So when you sing with a hum, you hear more pitch. You can focus more on the
pitch that on the tone. For example. Should I sing it with why broad or should I
sing it louder? Should I sing it with more air? But if it's a harm, then it's the home, then
it's more pure pitch. And when, when anything
is wrong with the pitch, you're going to notice it way easier because there's less
information about the tone. Now I should also mention
that you shouldn't force your voice to sing
a note that she can sing. For example, if it's
too high for you, either don't sink it or
if you want to sing it, singing with an easier
sound like this. Now should you start
practicing and how should your daily
practice look like? You can test the
exercises to see which one is challenging
for you in a way that it's not too difficult nor too easy and start practicing there. For example, if exercise
one is challenging for you, we'll start there and
gradually work your way up. Or if exercise 12 or
too easy for you, skip them and only focus on exercises 34 for
your daily practice, you can practice
from ten minutes up to one or even
two hours a day. As with developing any skill, the more time you
put into practice, the faster you will
see the results. But one thing that's even more important than
the time you put into practice is the amount
of consistency you have. No skill can be learned
without consistency. So practice daily, even if you can only practice for
short amount of time, you will definitely
see results if you're consistent enough
with your practice. Now one thing to keep in
mind when you practice is to work on all the different
parts of your vocal range. The bottom, middle, top, more top. Now, there's one thing you
can do to get way more out of your practice and
also improved faster. And that is to make yourself
hear yourself better. And when you think about it, it's obvious that if you
hear yourself better, you will be able to
notice the pitch issues. The off notes you have better when you notice any
issue is easier to fix it. So how can you hear
yourself better simply by copying one of
your ears like this. When you pop your ear, you will be able to hear more pure pitch tested and you will definitely
notice the change. Now, is there anything
I can do accept practicing these exercises
to improve your pitch? Yes. Listen to
music, more music. And I don't mean
listen casually. I mean, listen more actively and really work on
your listening skill. Especially listened to more
jazz and classical music. These music will really challenge on working on
your listening skill.
