1. Welcome Video: Learning how to sing properly can be pretty hard sometimes. You got to be comfortable
using your voice, singing high notes, breathing,
adjusting your pitch. In this course, we'll go over the most important
parts of singing. My name is Joseph, and
I'm excited to share with you my best tips on how
to improve your voice. If you're just getting sorry, this might seem a
little overwhelming. But we all need to
start from somewhere. The way we're going
to learn is going to be through a step
by step fashion, and we will do a lot
of practice that will help you apply the
things that we learned. If that sounds interesting, I would love for you to
dive into this course, and I will see you
on the other side.
2. 1 Note C: So you want to
improve our accuracy. What does accuracy mean? Think about it like this.
Let's say you had a note. Or let's try this note. Okay? This is the note C. And let's say you try to
sing it. Try to sing it. And so what we're trying
to do here is we're trying to improve our accuracy and make it more
accurate because some people what they do is
they try to sing this note, but they really sing
something close to this note. So maybe they sing so
instead of singing this, they sing the same one, but it's a little bit here. So Right. All right. And so what we want to do is we want to improve our accuracy. We want to be able to hit the node exactly like it sounds, not have a step down,
not have step up. We want to hit exactly
like it sounds. To do that, you want
to be able to hit. Let's say there's this note,
let's say there's a song, wing wing Let's say there
was a song like this. Twin story. Let's say this was a song. Then instead of
sounding like this, instead of instead of
sounding like this, Twinkle, twinkle, little,
sorry, you'll sound like this. Twinkle, twinkle little,
you'll kind of be off pitch. And so some of you
can be on pitch. Some of you are on pitch, but it never hurts to be
more accurate and pitch. And so we're going to
do an exercise that helps you be more
accurate. Let's swi it. So this exercise is simple. Gonna try to go one, three. So a la, so a, then, then La then. La Like that, so. And then then. Then we want to try to go here. La la a. Like that. So you want to try to sing this one and we're going to do it as many times as we can. We're going to try
to do it ten times. Okay? So let's do it. I'm going to do it the first time with you, and then you're going
to do it alone. So you're literally
gonna sing, say a. Okay? You're only
going to say la. So just say Lala la. Like that. So a Alright, so we're
gonna repeat it again. We're gonna do it ten times. Okay? And then I'm
going to add it here, one, two, three, four. So at the end,
wait wait we wait. So let's say it's here. Now, two, three,
four, then repeat. Okay? So repeat the whole thing. Let me add it right here. Yeah. So it's gonna be
two, three, four. Right? That's how it should go. So let's repeat it
again. I'm gonna do it the first time with you
and then you do it with me. So we're gonna do it ten times. Three, two, one. Now two, three, four. That's the second
time. Keep going. That's the second time. Alright. Now's the
third time. Keep going. Okay, we're done
with the third time. You can take a
little bit of break. You can take some break. And in the meantime,
what I'll do is I will duplicate this so
you can keep track of it. So let's see. I'm going to just add it right here. So,
again, it's the third time. You can pause the
video, you know, take it 20 seconds break. No longer than this, because
if it's longer than this, then you're going to
stop the momentum. Okay. So here's what it looks like when I duplicated
the whole thing. So we did three times. Now it's time for
the fourth time. So I'm gonna repeat
it from here. Okay, so one, two. Now it's the time to repeat.
Come on. Keep going. Go Alright, keep going. Alright. If you feel like you need a
little bit of pause, again, just take 20 seconds, pause the video,
and then come back. Okay? But there
is no need, okay? You should feel tired,
so let's continue. Alright now, let's repeat. Keep going two more times. The last time, one,
two, three, four. Alright. Keep going. Excellent. So what we did here is we
work on pitch accuracy, okay? We're trying to make
your pitch more accurate so that you can
hit the notes better. If you feel tired,
that's normal. If you don't feel
tired, then good for you. See you in
the next lecture.
3. 2 note C sharp: Okay, so right now, what we will do is we will
try to do the same thing, but this time, try
to step it up. So try to sing half a step up. Let's try it. We're gonna select this whole thing and just step it up as you can see. So boom, step it up. So at the beginning, it
was here. I was here. But now it's here. And as you can see, we're
gonna keep trying to going. We're gonna try to
go up, so like this. Okay. So we're gonna
try to play in that pitch so that we
can expand our range. But instead of trying to go
up, you can try to go down. So you can try instead of
playing this. You can do this. Okay, you can do
whatever you want. So let's try to go up half a step, and let's
see what happens. We're not only going to
do it for ten times, we're going to try to
double it this time because one of the
challenges that I see a lot of people face is that they kind of run out
of breath at the end. And that's literally
the whole point. You want to train
your breathing. You want to train your range. So your range means
how high you can go. Okay, how high or
how low you can go. You want to train your breath, you want to train your range. You want to train
your pitch accuracy. You want to be more accurate
while singing these notes. And so we're going
to try to double it. So you're going to see
me that I'm doubling it. Like this. So right now, instead of doing it ten times, we're going to try
to do it 20 times. Try to not take a rest, but by any means, don't
force yourself, right? You shouldn't be too
hard on yourself. You should be pushing yourself to the limit, but not too hard. So let's try to do it 20 times. I'm going to do it
one time with you, and then you're going to
complete the rest. You're ready? Take a deep breath,
and let's get started. Three, two, one, goo. Two, three, four. Let's do it again. Three, four, keep going. Keep going, keep going. And by the way, just one thing. If you notice that at the
end, like at the top, you can't breathe or maybe at the top, your
voice is straining. That's normal. All right? Maybe try to not sing it, try to not sing the note
that you can't hit, try to whistle this note. But the whole point is to
push your limits, okay? So you're meant you're meant to feel string in your voice when you
get to the high notes. Okay? Again, by any means,
don't try to push yourself too hard because at
the end of the day you might hurt your voice. Okay. So try to find a balance between pushing yourself and
maybe doing too much. Remember that we're not
in any hurry, okay? You can always come
back to this and do it anytime you want. Okay?
So let's continue. Oh One, two, three, keep going. Even if it's boring.
Just keep going. Two. Keep going. Push yourself. Two, three, four again. Three, four, All right, five left. One, two, three,
four, one, two, four. Keep going. Two and
three and four. Three more times. Final time. Alright. Keep going. One, two, three, and four. All right. So how did it feel? Challenging. If it's not
challenging, then good. We have to keep
going. All right? If it felt challenging,
then that's also great. That's pretty much
it. Just make sure, you know, you, you know, stretch your voice, maybe, try to, you know, try
to take a little break, maybe 20, 30 seconds, maybe 1 minute. And yeah,
that's pretty much it. Hope this helped. See
you in the next lecture.
4. 3 Note D: Okay, so this time, what
we'll do is same thing. But as usual, we're going
to not only do more of it, but we're going to try to
go for a half step up. So as you can see,
these are the nodes. And we're going to
do half step up. Okay, so let's give it a shot, and we're going to try
to do it till the end, and we're going to add some more because the goal is always make it more challenging
to yourself, expand your range more,
expand your breathing. Now, you might ask yourself, why are we doing more of these? And why are we
trying to go higher? So let's start by
the second question. Why are we trying to go higher? We're trying to go higher
to expand your range? Because your range
is like a muscle. The more you stretch it, the more flexible it will be. If you have a flexible
throat muscle, then you will be able
to sing high notes. So what we're trying to do is, think about it as you're trying there is some people that
they can't touch their toes, and that's because they're
not flexible enough. So if they stretch, enough
times during the day, then eventually in a month, two, three, four, maybe in a year, I'm not sure if it
takes that long, but maybe in a few weeks, they will be able to
touch their toes. And so, same thing goes here. If you stretch your
voice multiple times, then eventually you'll be
able to sing high notes. Now, that's for the
first question, I mean, the second question, which is why are we trying to increase why are we trying
to sing higher notes. Now, why are we
trying to do more? Well, the thing is, we're
trying to do more notes so that you train
your breathing, okay? If you're someone that is singing in the choir or
maybe used in the past, notice that in the first minute, it's different than minute 30, different than
minute 40, 45, okay? And so the more you go, the harder it
becomes to breathe, not necessarily breathing, the more difficult it will become to control
your breathing. And so we're trying
to build resistance. It's it's roning.
The more you run, the more you build resistance. And so that's what
we're trying to do. So we're going to add
right here five more. We could double it.
Theoretically, we should double it. So
let's try to double it. And again, if you felt tired, you don't need to
continue, but I advise you to continue. So
let's give it a shot. That's it. Okay.
Again, you don't be overwhelmed by the look of these notes. Again,
think about it like this. Let's say it's signy,
try to do it like this. Alright. But keep it
here to keep progress. Again, feel free in the
middle to take a pause, take some rest, 20/32,
maybe a minute. It's there's nothing wrong
with taking a break. The goal is just
to be consistent. Alright, so let's
give it a shot. I'm going to let you hear
what it sounds like. So That's it. Alright? So we're gonna give it
a shot. Let's start. So, three, two, one. Let's go. Okay. So a lot of people might get to the sport and
feel a little tired. Here are a few tips on
how to not get tired. First, try to take a deep
breath before every part. So instead of
immediately seeing it, just try to take a deep breath. Second, what you
need to try to do is breathe exhale, less air. So exhale, less air. Instead of saying, La
la, la, just try to say, La la, la, be quieter. And when you do
that, be less loud. When you do that,
you're going to be able to breathe for longer. So let's continue. Two, three, four, again, if you at like
you want to rest, some rest. Possibly take some rest. We have One, two, three, and four. One thing that I need
to remind you of is don't forget what we
said at the beginning. When you feel like you're tired, just take a little
break and try to take a deep breath before
every sentence and also try to breathe less. No try to breathe less,
try to exhale less. Okay? I wanted to remind you of this because
it's very important. So let's continue.
Three, two, one, go. That's the last time. Excellent. Okay. So that is gonna be
it. Hope this helped. Hope you're getting better, and we'll see you in
the next lecture.
5. 4 Note B: Excellent. So right now,
let's do the same thing. But this time we're
going to do it again, we're going to do it
on a different pitch so that you can
train your range. But I'm not going
to go higher this s. Instead, I'm
going to go lower. So as usual, we're going to
go on a different pitch, and we're going to
again double it. Okay? We're going
to keep increasing the amount of notes that
we do because remember, a song is three,
four whole minutes. And so you should be able to sing for three or 4 minutes
while you're comfortable. What What if you had a concert? I mean, a concert is like 30, 40, could be an hour long. Right? And so you have to be able to sing for
an extended period of time in front of an
audience without getting tired. So
let's try to do it. We're going to try to change the pitch. So let's lower this. And we're going to try to sing not on the D, not on C sharp, not on C, but we're going
to sing one, two, three. We're going to sing on B. So it's going to sound
like this. All right. La La, this is going
to be much more comfortable because
it's on a lower range. Okay? So let's try to
double the amount of notes. We're going to add it here
and double it. All right. Cool. So let's get you start. Three, two, one. Let's go. Three, four. Two Okay, we're halfway there. Just a little reminder that make sure that you
take a deep breath before every sentence and try to exhale as little as possible
so that you keep the air. Okay? And if you need any
rest, just keep going. So we're halfway as you can
see. Come on, keep going. All right, so that's going
to be pretty much it. Now, make sure that you
take a little bit of rest. Okay. So again, 20 seconds, 40 seconds, 1 minute. And if you really feel like it, just take a little more time, and that is going to
be pretty much it. So one thing that
you really need to know is that your voice
should feel stretched. And again, if you don't feel like your
voice is stretched, if you don't feel like your
voice is tired, good for you. That means that you
have a strong voice, and that's a very good sign. But at the same time, if you feel that you're tired,
that's very normal. All right. So keep it going. Just keep practicing. And even
if it's boring exercises, even if there are soft that are not even if there are
soft that are not, kind of the best and don't feel boring and
don't feel productive, it is productive, okay? I remember one time I was
trying to make vocal exercises, and sometimes you
just got to do more. You just got to do
more volume, right? So keep it going.
You're doing great job, and that is going to be pretty
much it for this video.
6. 5 Note B flat (Re-filmed): Okay. Welcome back. So let's do the
exact same thing. But this sung we're going
to do it on B flat. So the previous sign
we did it on B. So this one, now we're
going to do it on B flat. So let's give it Let's,
you know, pitch it down. I'm going to show
you how it's done. So, boom. Alright. So that's pretty much it.
I'm going to let you do it. I'm going to let
you listen to the first to the first, like, notes. That's it. So we're
going to do it. And again, we're going to do it. But this time, we're
not gonna double it. We're just going to
keep it for now. Later on, we're gonna
double it for sure, but for now, let's
keep it as it is. Okay, so that's pretty much it. And let's get started. Three, two, one. Let's go. One, two, three, and four. Keep it going two, three and four. Two, three, and four. One thing that I can't stress enough is make sure that you actually use the breathing techniques that I
told you about. So make sure that you breathe
before every sentence and then control your
breathing while exhaling. So let's continue. You might ask yourself
what's happening right here. And that's something
interesting. So if you notice, it went down. So we were here. Then
And then it went down. And that's a little weird,
because of the software. It looks like it automatically went down. Let's check it again. Okay, so it looks like something happened
in the software, and they automatically
change it. It's a book or
something. Because here we're on the same note and
suddenly it went down. Okay? So what we're
gonna do, Yeah, so there's something right here in the control
that happened, looks like a button that was
accidentally pressed, okay? So what we're going to do is we're going to just try
to see where we are, and we're going to
try to do it again. Okay? Make sure that for
this lecture right here, just because we're not
going to continue, make sure that you
literally just repeat the whole thing by
yourself, okay? So, we did it already. Now, make sure that
you do it again. Okay, make sure you do
the same thing again. Maybe you can repeat
that video or you can just I
prefer if you just, pause the video and do
it again by yourself. So we're halfway through. Let's see how many we did. We did one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, 11, 12, 13, four, five, six, seven, 11. Ten. So we did 40. Okay, looks like we did 40. Now we make you do
another 40, okay? So if you want, you can repeat that video or you can
just do it by yourself. It's a chance for you to do it by I don't know what
happened right here, why it just changed, but it's a great opportunity for
you to do it by yourself. So positivity right now, do another 20 by yourself, and I'll see you in
the next lecture.
7. 6 Note A: Okay, so we will
do the same thing, but this time on A, we
previously did it on the B flat. Now we're going to
do it on the A. So let's hear what it
sounds like and continue. It's pretty simple.
Let's hear it. Nola, you have to keep going. One, two, three, and four. Keep going. Excellent. Two, three and four. Two, three and four. Two, three and four. Almost at All right. So we're done. That's very much it. Hope this one's helpful. Make sure that if you need to repeat the straining,
don't repeat it. You don't need to watch the
whole video to repeat it. You just memorize it. Okay,
you kind of memorize it. Don't repeat the video because it's not gonna be
worth it anymore. You know, just kind of let's say you wanted to repeat the straining or you
wanted to do it. Let's say it's in the morning and you wanted to
do it at night, you know, in your head,
just play the first note, okay, which is going to be in A. So it's going to be
an A right here. Just play it in your mind and
you should be good to go. Okay? So when you need to
do that training again, you don't need to watch
the whole video again. You just need to play the
first note on your mind, and you should be able to sing the whole thing by yourself. We'll see you
another video. Bye.
8. 7 Note A flat: Right, right. So as usual, what we will do
is we will change the whole thing and
we pitch it down. So we put it down like this. Boom, and now it's on A flight. So here's what it sounds like. Okay. So now it's gonna sound a little different and that's
because we pitched it down. So let's do some
minor improvements, some minor adjustments, I mean. So let's see. Okay. Yeah, it looks like
that after crash. You can continue. One,
two, three, continue. One, two, four. Who? I bet that was tough. So next time, the only thing that you want to
be careful of is, again, your breathing and
try to be accurate because the whole
point of this exercise is you trying to be accurate. So hope this was challenging.
It should be challenging. If it's not, then good, but if it was challenging,
then it's meant to be. So that's it see you
in the next lecture.
9. 8 Note G: Okay. Welcome back. So as usual, we're gonna try
to go even lower. So let's try to go
a little bit lower, half step like this. Let's
hear what it sounds like. One, two, three. Let's continue. Let me stop here on this one. Two, three, four. There is one thing that we
need to pay attention to, and it's really important. And the thing is that when
you try to sing something, just make sure that
you're actually counting. Don't count on the metronome, because when you're
counting on the metronome, then when you're trying to
sing, what's going to happen? What's going to happen if you try to sing without
the metronome? You'll not be able to fully sing the song
without the matron. And so it's a good idea
to use a metronome. Don't get me wrong, but
it's also a better idea if you can sing
without the metro. It's going to be way better. And so try to try sometimes, and I'm going
to try it right now. I'm going to try to
turn off the metronome and try to say
without the matron. Why not? We're going to turn
back the metro later on, but try it without the matron. Okay. So let's try. Three, two, one. I'm going to turn of
the matron. Let's go. Uh Whoa, whoa, whoa, went a little we went a
little over the limit. So that is going to
be pretty much it. Okay? Again, as usual, make sure that if you want
to practice it again, there's no need to
repeat the whole video. You just need to practice
whatever part you feel you want to practice.
It's very simple. L, L, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, no, no, n. It's
pretty simple. So that's pretty much it.
See you in the next lecture.
10. 1 Pattern C going up: So this lecture right here is going to be
a little different. They can listen how
it sounds like. And then here, we're
going to have some beats. And then maybe here we're
going to have more beats. So what we did differently? What we're going to do
differently is we're going to get used to singing along
with the melody. Okay? So, and at the same time, you know, we have to
make the exercise a little bit less boring. Okay? So that's why we add a little bit of beats and we add a little bit of variation. Again, the goal right here
is still the same thing. The goal right here it's
still to train your pitch. And the goal right here is
still to train your range. So what I mean here
is by pitch accuracy. So you need to be a
little more accurate. Range means how high
you can go and how low you can go and as
well as breathing. An rhythm. Okay? These are four
very important elements. Later on during the song,
we're going to have, you know, pronunciation, you know, lips, lip shape, and all that stuff. But right now, these are going to be the
most important one. Okay? These are going to be
the most important ones. So let's see. Let's get
started. It goes like this. Two, three. Or, then,
Then one more time. So it's gonna be
three times. So one. And here we change. Two, three, then we change. Right? Three, four. So three times. So three times the same
one, then we go up pitch. L. Two, three, four, then two, three, and four, then the four. You see what's going to happen.
Then here as you can see, we're going to repeat
the variation, but it's going to be with bits
we're going to repeat it. Then Is going to be exciting. Trust me, it's going
to be exciting. Let's start by doing
the whole thing. We're going to start
from here. Three, two, one, let's go. Yeah. B B B B Okay, so that is gonna be it. Hope you enjoyed it.
Hope this was helpful, and we'll see you in
the next lecture.
11. 2 Pattern but faster: Alright, so right now,
we're going to do it. But on tempo 105, 105. Instead of 65, we're
gonna do it on tempo hundred 105. Same thing. It's just that the tempo
is going to be different. So the challenge here
is going to be you being able to actually
pronounce well the laws. Okay? So we're
gonna do it in law, and then we're going
to change vowels. So instead of law in the
next lecture, maybe, we're going to do something
different than the law like u or she or C or something
like that. Okay? So let's start by just saying doing the same thing,
but it's gonna be faster. So, for example, let me do
it one time in front of you. It's going to challenge your breathing. So
let's give it a shot. Three like this.
Three, four, right. Again, it's going to
challenge your breath. Let's give it a shot, and
let's start in three, two, one, and go. Uh All right, so that is going to be pretty
much it for this video. Hope you enjoyed this.
Hope this was challenging. Again, it's meant to be and we'll see you
in the next one.
12. 3 Doing small changes: All right, let's go. So
here's what's going to happen during this video. We're going to do the
same exact thing, but we'll change few
things, very few things. This time we're going to do it. But on Tempo 145,
yes, you heard it. One, 45, 145, and it's
gonna look like this. Lala la, la, la, la, la, la, la. This will really help you articulate a lot better
than the one oh five. So let's do it. No, no, breath. Four we're not going to
only change the tempo. We're going to change
another thing which is gonna be the pronunciation. So we're going to say Wa,
whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa, whoa, whoa. You're going to try to do
it and you want to try to be as intentional as
possible with the woe. Alright? So wa like this woe. Let's do it in three, two. One, good luck. One thing that could be helpful is at the end, if you're able to do it, I would highly advise to do it again without the
beats at the end. So do it without the
beats at the end. I would advise you do
it. Again, it's option. No need, but I would hire advice to do it with the
beats at the end, because it's really
going to help you take it to the next level, and you'll be able to, to
be independent from it and learn how to sing a capella as well as, you
know, with the song. So let me add this right here. So let's do this. I'll copy it and then I'll face it here. So it's kind of me adding
another variation. Alright? So I just added another
variation like that. So we're going to do it one, two, then one and two. Okay, so let's continue
from here. Four. A So we're going to try to remove
this part because it's adding a little bit of
disturbance to the check. So this one. Yeah, now that's better. M, no, no, no, no, no, no, two, three, four. For the I B. Alright, so that is gonna be it. Again, as usual,
hope you enjoyed it, and we'll see you
in the next one.
13. 4 Small changes (Pt 2): All right. So now we're
going to do the same thing. But this time we're gonna
pitch down everything. So let's take all of these. And we're gonna pitch
it by three half steps. One, two, three. So it's gonna sound like this.
So we're going to do it. And we're going to do it on
the 125 this time. Okay. And we're going to do is we're going to also add a
little break in between. So right here, we're going
to add a little break and then do the whole
thing from scratch. Okay, give me 1 second. So right here, when
you get to the middle, you can have breakdown. So it's going to be breakdown
or we're gonna repeat it. So we change the pitch. Here's what we change.
We changed the pitch. One, we changed the pitch. We changed the rhythm,
and we doubled it. So we increased the breathing,
and we added a pause. So let's do the whole
