Transcripts

1. 1 - introduction: Hello, welcome to Pattern Bootcamp. My name is Mile and I'm an illustrator and self- special designer. Now, have you ever been stuck for an idea? And just had no idea what to draw. This does happen to me occasionally. I came up with the method that helped me generate new ideas. Sometimes it may be through things that I probably would never have drawn before. It's a great way to think outside the square and create something purely unique. The next six weeks, we are going to build our portfolios together using this method. Let's get started. 2. 2 - Idea generation: The focus of this webcam is to help you create designs that are sellable, collections that you could send a potential buyer, occasions such as Christmas and birthdays or what sells in the greeting card gift wrap and gift away market. It's always a really good idea to have lots of things in your portfolio. The next six weeks we will create designs for six different occasions, one per week. I'll provide you with a list of occasion prompts and each week you'll select one to focus on. You also need another set of prompts to select from to generate inspiration for your design idea. This is where the toll brainstorming comes in handy. What I'd like you to do is think five minutes writing down all the things that you love, things that you're passionate about, that you're interested in. Then here is what I came up with. Now, I want you to pick 20 from your list and write them in the categories PDF that I have provided for you in the download section. Now in the next video, I will show you how to organize your prompts and then we are ready to go. 3. 3 - Prompt Cards: 4. 4 - Research: Now that you have your occasion and category, you need to do some research. There are many ways to research. My favorite is going to the library. I love the library. I love finding old books on subjects, especially art history or the history of birds or animals or that stuff. You can also use the internet of course, going to a museum, get outside. Pinterest is a great platform for creating a mood board of all your discoveries. Now one word of caution, do not copy. It's okay to copy to learn but not to profit. Take your inspiration and make it your own. Same goes for photography. You should always get permission from the photographer if you would like to use photography for your art work. Let's get started. 5. 5 - Weekly Project: 6. 6 - Coordinates: 7. 7 - Final: Now you have all your pump counts ready to go. Let's get started. Now you can do this boot-camp whenever you like, but I encourage you to do it six weeks running. Check the dates from the community section as I will be giving away one years premium membership to Skillshare to those who submit all the six weeks working collections in the given time frame. Happy pattern-making. See you.
