1. Introduction: In this class, I'm going to show you how to create colorful flower painting with water colors. My style is not cumbersome as I use the primary colors as they are. Using the vibrant colors can also have a healing effect on you. You can create art and easy, relaxing and spectacular way. Hi my name is Miki. I'm an artist based in Japan. My paintings decorate shops, clinics, office and hair salons as Rental Art. They can enjoy my art that change every three months. My painting have a positive impact on their customers and also themselves. Every year I exhibit in Tokyo where is a little bit far from my house. Because I live in the countryside. At that time I stay in Tokyo for about three weeks. And now I'm living in Germany where my partner lives. When I live in different places, a lot of kinds of people help me. I would like to express my gratitude to them. Sending a digital message is fine, but handwritten text with a painting of a gorgeous flowers is a great way to convey my feelings. And You can enjoy colorful paintings in your room. We are using watercolor in this class. It can work you used to use in primary school. This class is for all levers. Even if you already have experience in the arts, you will discover a new style. You are going to be able to follow along just fine. My teaching is pretty easy to understand. You will not get lost because you paint together each color with me. You are going to be amazed with what you been able to create yourself. So let's get started! 2. Project: We're going to creating gorgeous painting with this reference photo. But we don't just paint it as it is. Colors have brightness, which we recognize and convert into primary colors. Brilliant painting is stylish and illuminate your heart. I'm providing a reference photo which you can find in the project and resources tab. Once you are there, you'll see a column on the right called Resources. That's where you can click to download reference photo for this class. I'll be demonstrating these flowers. However, if you would like to paint from a photo that you took or paint your own favorite flower instead, Please feel free. Sketching and painting techniques that you'll be learning a basic no matter what reference photo you are using. I want you to make the painting your own. I would love to see what you made in this class. When you finish the painting, Please take a photo of your painting and share it in the student project gallery. You can find the gallery under the same project on the resources tab. On the right, you'll see a green button that says "create project". Tap that, and once you are there, you'll have the option to upload a cover photo. And a title and write a little description. If you want to share your project on Instagram, please tag me and Skillshare, So we can both like and comment social media too. That's about it. Next, I will explain the key point of my painting. Brightness. 3. Brightness: This is the process of my painting. That color is different when comparing the picture with the Reference Photo. But when I change those to monochrome, and similar shades of color are visible. Colors have brightness. Even if you paint with primary colors that are different from the reference photo, you use similar brightness, You can create a three-dimensional effect. I would like to explain a little about how I use the brush. Dip the brush in the water Tap it onto a paper towel a couple of times and put paint on it. I like the way the colors bleed and change. My style is to use a brush with a lot of water. But if you want to like strong colors, try using less water in the brush. If you want to know more about brush control, Check out my horse-painting class. Please experiment with the amount of water you prefer. In the next lesson, I will explain what we need in this class. 4. What We Need: I described what we will need in this class. Watercolor paints. Any paint is fine. It can be okay you use it when you were kid or your kids use it at school. And it also works with cheap paints from your local shop. I use tube paints, but you can use pans if you like. In this lesson, we use yellow, yellow-green, dark-blue, pink, dark-green, purple, orange, red and white. The brand I use is Holbein. I particularly like this vivid pink. But please use the brand you want to use. And if you don't have those colors, mix your own one to make a close match. You don't need to paint in the same as me. Create your own art. We can all enjoy our personalities. This class is about having fun refreshing your mind with primary colors. Next step, Brushes. You should choose the softer brushes for watercolor or acrylics. Flat brush No. 18 or 16, Paint the base colors with this thick brush. Flat brush No.12 Paint large shadows. Flat brush No.8 Paint small shadows. Round brush No.0 Paint the details. And paper I use 190 g paper. This is not so thick, but you can do good work by taking it easy and relaxing. Sketchbook for kid's is also fine. Don't be afraid to paint more and more! If you want to send a letter or postcard to say thank you or something, you can try painting on them. Or if you have a printer, it's good idea to take a photo or scan of your painting and print them out. That time you can choose you like the best. Pallet I use this portable palette. It's all right you use a simple one. Pencil I like soft lead pencil. The main topics of this class is to use primary colors. We don't need to sketch in so much detail, so I think a soft pencil is easier to do. Sketches do not have to be perfect. I sometimes overhang my drawn lines and color them in. It adds a lively look to your art. So You can pick whichever you want. Eraser It's just normally eraser. Probably you can find your home. The paper towel that wipes extra water from the brush. If you have painted too much, wipe it off with a paper towel to lighten the color. Water Dish We are going to use the watercolors, so we need water. It's needed to clean the brush and dissolve the paint. I use this glass bottle. This is the welcome flower bottle that my landlord put here when I first visited last year. They are always so helpful. I have a class to paint their portraits together, so please take a look if you want to paint a colorful portrait. Anything is fine, So look for something on your home. this kind of water dish. When I paint, I almost always see the reference photo. From there I refer to shapes and shades and atmosphere. Usually I have it on my iPad, You can print it out or save it on your mobile. Even though my painting is not photo-realistic, still nice to have a photo to help my imagination gets more lively. All right, I think that's it. In the next lesson, we will start sketching. 5. Sketch: Let's start sketching. Put the reference photo in a visible position. I'll be using this photo. But if you want to follow along with a different reference photo, Please feel free. The things that you will be learning are how to choose colors and paint. Whatever you paint, you can refer to this class. So follow along or do your own things, it's up to you. Roughly determine the overall size. It's not necessary to draw in detail so much, as the main focus is on coloring. Let's draw the points with dots. We shouldn't draw the details from the beginning, decide what size to put the whole thing on the paper. Let's follow your feeling and make a rough sketch. If you think it is out of position, erase and correct it immediately. Drawing characteristic shapes. Flowers above. Drawing the outlines. Leaves. Stalk. Small flowers. Let's also draw the rose roughly. Draw the sunflower on the left side. Margaret on the right. It's not necessary to draw exactly as in the reference photo. Rough overall drawing. Let's start coloring in the next lesson. 6. Thick Brush: Let's start painting. First, the base is painted with a thick brush. I've got two brushes No.18 or No.16 & No.12 that I'll be using. As we want to know the lightness and darkness of the photos, I also place black and white photo here. Brush No.18 or No.16 Yellow Painting up bright areas. Brush No.12 Yellow-green Paint a little bit darker area. Brush No.12 Dark blue Paint dark areas. Brush No.12 Yellow Brush No.12 Pink As there have been many cold colors so far. Paint pink to make the painting more brilliant. Brush No.12 Dark blue again Brush No.12 Dark green Variation in shadow color. Brush No.12 Purple Paint shadows in purple, the opposite color of dark green. The whole area has been painted. There is a big light & dark area divide. In the next lesson, we will use the middle brush to paint large shadows. 7. Middle Brush: Now we use the middle brush to make the shading a little more intense. I use this No. 8 flat brush. Brushe No.8 Orange For the shadow areas. Brushe No.8 dark blue Brushe No.8 red Sprinkle red all over for a glamorous look. Brushe No.8 dark green Brushe No.18 or No.16 dark green A little bit, I used thick brush here. Brushe No.8 red Complementary colors will infuse more depth. Brush No.0 red Paint the shadow of the rose petals with a thin brush and clarify them. Brush No.8 red Put red on the green and make a dark color on the paper. Red in the shadow of rose. Apply the opposite color red next to the green and make it vibrant. Create more red areas and make the whole gorgeous. Brush No.8 purple Brush No.8 yellow green Brush No.8 pink Add colors to the underside of the sunflower. Brush No.8 dark blue Layers of color on the leaves for a more rich color.
