Meet Your Teacher

Hello! I am Utpreksha.

I am a Fine art graduate in drawing and painting. I like to handle different mediums and experiment with them to find various techniques that create interesting visuals. I love to use watercolors the most as it is lovely to work with their flow. I believe art should be created with a free mind which is why I work with spontaneity. I would love to teach various techniques of using colors to students and help them create their unique artworks!

I believe that artwork always turns out to be satisfying when we enjoy the process of creating. :)

1. Welcome!: In today's video. I'm giving a tutorial of really simple watercolor paintings. This idea is ideal for beginners who want to learn various watercolor washes and techniques. I got this idea from my sketchbook page and this blue pot in particular. Watercolor pots and drawing plants in pen and ink looked very attractive to me. So here's the tutorial for you. 2. Mini watercolour paintings: Let's start off by cutting the paper in such small sizes. I will only fit one pot on one paper. Drawing smaller intricate spaces in the beginning will not help in understanding the makeum. The best way to learn or be able to work with watercolors is to play with its flow. So very tiny detailed drawings will not let us do that. I will only paint the pots using watercolors and I will draw the plants or flowers using a pen. So get all the pages ready before starting with the paintings. I'm using references to get these various shapes of pots as well as of the plants. And then I tape two pages on a box board as I can paint two parts at a time. In this way, I would not have to wait between the layers to dry. I have covered the box board, which I'm using as a support with a brown tape. It has made it water resistant. I'm using crisonRd to paint this first part. I added a bit of sap green in it to make it less vibrant as a complimentary color reduces any color saturation, and I'm switching between two brushes to paint between the pattern and to paint the bigger shape. This tip is extremely important to switch the brushes according to the need. This alone improves the quality of our work. As the size of the paper increases, the brush size should also increase. Then for this pot, I used blue with a bit of red for variation in the wash. The flat brush helps in painting thin lines when they use its corners. So we should also explore various uses of the same brush. Then after giving a wash on this pot, I added some plain water from the corners. The water pushes the pigments away in that particular area and gives this beautiful texture. When the first layer dried, I painted these oval shapes on it. You can use any geometrical or floral designs of your choice. Just make sure that the first layer has fully dried. Then I started drawing these leaves with a fine liner. That's how our first two tiny paintings are complete. We will continue painting the other parts. Such small paintings are best to try any new technique you want to practice or maybe a color scheme you would like to try. It doesn't take much time. I'm using pots here with plants, but you can use any form of your choice. Look for variation in a single type of form. My another favorite form is a fish. I can find variety in its body shape and of their fins. I draw lines around the shape with a darker color. I don't outline the shape, but draw lines considering a source of flight from one side and drawing the lines where shadows will be. And I finished the works by drawing the plants. Here are the completed tiny paintings. I hope you enjoyed this easy watercolor tutorial. Thank you for watching.
