1. Welcome to this Class: Hi there. And welcome to this Obi s livestream in class. So this class is for anyone who wants to set up their own LIVESTREAMED profile in O B s. This class is just under 30 minutes long, and it covers the essentials of setting up. So you're ready to live stream in this class. I'm going to teach you how to create multiple scenes in O. B. S for streaming. I'm then going to show you studio mode. After this, I'll explain the different capture cards are used for streaming off, then show you how to create a test dream. And finally, I'll show you how to go live on YouTube with O. B s. So by the end of this class, you'll learn the basics off setting up your streaming profile so you can go life with O. B. S
2. How to Create Multiple Scenes and my OBS Streaming Setup: Hi there. And welcome to this video or income to show you how to set up multiple scenes for live streaming in O B s. So in this video, I'm going to give you a look into my streaming set up. And hopefully you can apply what I'm doing for some of your own streams. So here is my O. B s profile, and I'm going to show you my different scenes now and how I trigger these different scenes drawing my life stream so you can see down here I have a selection off different scenes. So the first scene here is a looping video clip, and I made this short video clip in Cumber. And by the way, I show you how to make this short video clip in the canvas section off this course. So if you want to learn how to make this design, then be sure to check out the video in the canvas section off this course. So this source here is a video clip. And if I right click on this and go to properties, you can see here that I have loop enabled. You can also make sure that the video clip It fits the screen by right clicking on the source, going to transform and then going down to fit to screen. On this way, the video clip will fit the screen. Let's have a look at the next scene. This one is a countdown timer video clip. So this just gives me a countdown before the stream starts. Actually got this short video clip from a site called Picks Obey. And they have some great rule to for eclipse. However, though, just be careful with the uses writes on. I do recommend using one that is for commercial use just to be on the safe site. So I just showed this on picks Obey now quickly. So here is picks obey. And I just clicked on videos and I typed in current down and you can see it's this one here , and I do recommend using one that is free for commercial use. Let's go back to O. B s. And you would have noticed that there was audio on that current downtime. Your video as well. So let me just play this again. You can see the audio here so this countdown video does not loop. It just plays once because obviously I don't want this countdown to repeat and then going down. I have a welcome video. So this scene here has a welcome video that created very similar to the stream is about to begin video. So I made this one the same way as they have a video clip on direct clicked on the source went properties, and I looked this as well. To be honest, I wouldn't really use this scene that often. I would normally go straight to the camera or the gameplay, but I may use this in case I want to build up an introduction for the stream. For example, if there's a guest on the stream on, I want to announce the guests before I show them the next scene is be right back, and this has a video clip for the source. So this could be useful if there's any technical issues that I need to address, or I might need to use the bathroom or go get some water or something like that would be right back. Seen like this can be very helpful because some life streams do last for hours and you may need to sort something out during the stream on the next scene is called camera only. So for this I have the camera and I have this image behind me because I'm actually using a green screen. So if I wrecked click on the camera and I go to filters and that is here. We have chroma key. And if I uncheck this, you can say I have this green screen behind me was I have this corrupt for hold down option . I can crop this. You can see that green screen isn't quite large enough. So I just hold on option track to the side to crop this like so. And if I right click on camera going filters, I can enable the creme icky here again. You also know tests If I scroll down here Audio mixer, you have one here called Stream Mike. That's because I've added an audio source. So they hit the plus button here. I can go onto audio and put capture and here countries my stream. Mike, if I create new, let me just call this audio capture to you. For example, you can go my device and here I have my audio interface. So my microphone is plugged into my audio interface. Let me just council this for nine and let me just delete the second audio capture. And if I right click on the stream, my care we can go onto filters for this as well. And here you'll notice I have some different audio filters. So this is things like compression de esa limiter. I'm also using some outboard audio effects on if you want to see the exact audio settle bemusing than be sure to check out my behind the scenes video in this course I show you my audio set up. And I also have the audio from my game console which we're going to look at in a moment. This is my camera only source. So this will have the audio from the game and it will have the audio from the microphone and obviously my camera thing going down. I have this scene here called PlayStation and this is the gameplay then going down. I have my capture card. I have my microphone as well and also have the audio from the capture card because the capture card will capture hates dear my and that allows you to capture audio and video. However, in O b s, you will have to add these separately as input capture on also as a video capture device, the next video cover the exact capture card I'm using if you want to check that out. And now let's actually monitor the audio from the PlayStation. You can hear there. We have the audio from this game. We can click on the settings cock here and go to advance audio properties. And here we have a few options we can select. So I do also recommend using headphones when you stream, so you don't get any believed into a microphone, and it will sound better. So you notice here on the PlayStation audio, we have mono checked. That's because this game is really old. It's from the PlayStation one, and I'm actually playing on the PlayStation two. Andi, if I uncheck this, go to the speaker. I come. You can see here just coming out one side. You go back to advance Badia properties on, we check. Be able to hear the audio is coming out of both ears now. That's because this game is so old. It was a mixed in mono for the stream. Micah's Well, this is a modern microphone, so I'm gonna have ah mono checked for this as well. I'm not going to monitor Microphone If I will monitor the game audio, let me just meet this game audio for now. So it's not too distracting. Okay, going down. I have this one here called PS. So this is me in the corner and then the PlayStation game. So now I can be playing the game. Let me just a Knute their game audio. Now let's play the game and you can see here I'm in the corner, so I'm not taking up too much space. Of course, I can always click on the camera and move this around. For example, I have changed my seating position slightly so I can just click and move this around, weaken, drag and move this around as well. If we wish to make it larger or smaller of the state, we don't want to be taking up the whole screen while we're doing this as it is a little distracting. So we just want ourselves in the corner. Really? Not too small. Probably. Say around about here. Let me just meet the game Audio. You notice? Here we have the camera source. We have the microphone. Then we have the audio from the capture guard and then we have the video from the capture card. Like I said, we will be covering capture cards in the next video on the next scene below Here is the same but I'm on the left. You may have noticed that I have slightly change size so you will need to adjust these So they are the same size. One thing you can dio is you can copy and paste sources from one scene to another. So for example, this ps Ah, this way. I'm on the right. Let's just make this a little larger. Then go to the camera source here right Like this. And then I can go on to copy then on PS left. Come right. Click here, then go to paste. You can see there. I cannot enable or disable this one and it could even delete this one here and then just move this over to the left. Okay? Then I can switch between these, So on the right and then on the left, so have the PlayStation. So just the gameplay so I could move around, okay? And then on the rights and then on the left. So this just looks really professional when you're in the corner. Never say I am using a green screen for this. So for right, click on this. Going to filters. You can see here the crime A k is disabled and you can see the green screen behind me. Onda. Below this, we have a scene which is Thanks for watching. So this is the same as the ever scenes. Really. Just a short animated welcome message which can be quite fun on it is a bit more interesting than just still image. And below here I just have a still image. Just is really a kind of a spare scene where I can make something up on the flight if I really need to. Let me just click on this one here called PS, and you can actually right click on this and you can actually duplicate the entire scene. So if I do get this one, I'm going to call this P s are up. Yeah. Okay, then move this up with the arrow here. So it's below PS are, And then I can just click and drag it. Move this up, for example, if it wants to be up here so I could switch between these and I go up here. Okay, So that is the set up. I have. So I have thes different messages. Streams about to begin Countdown a welcome video. Be right back. Camera only suggest me here. Obviously, I've got the green screen behind me. And if I just pulled this down notice it's just the wall behind May. So I do have a pullup green screen here and they do cover this in their behind the scenes video. We're looking my backdrops. If you want toe, then about my backdrops there. They've got just the PlayStation. Then they've got the PlayStation on the right, PlayStation up on the right. The one we made previously. I need to add something on the fly. So that's my set up. Remember, you will need to have a capture card to capture the audio and also the video from your game console. Unless, of course, you have a computer game that's on the same computer as O. B s. You could just have this on a different monitor and you will need to have a microphone. Some people like to add a microphone on the audio mixer. I like to actually add my microphone for each individual seen. So, for example, on this welcome video here, I don't want to have the order from my microphone on the be right back video here. I don't want the audio from my microphone for this as well. So if I need to fix something technical or go get some water or something, I don't actually want to have the microphone enabled. So you noticed there under RDM except there isn't a microphone. But for example, what says camera only. Here we scroll down. You can see we have the stream, Mike, so you will have to add the stream mike for each source. But if you do want to add a source, you can add an existing long. So be right back here just for this example by going to audio input capture you can see here at existing on. I could choose this one history, Mike, and this as the microphone I'm talking into right now. Okay, so that is my set up. I just like having these different scenes, and I can switch between them while some play in the game. And I just switched between them using my mouse. Some people do use hockey's my preferred just using my mouse or attract bad. And I could just easily switch between these different scenes whilst I'm streaming. So thank you for watching this video. 3. Capture Cards for Live Streaming: Okay, So in this video, I'm going to talk about my capture cards for game play and also the capture card for my camera. So let's first talk about the capture card for the gameplay. So you will need to feed a hasty my source into your computer and do this, you will need a capture card. So the one I'm using is a mAj. Well, capture card on this actually allows you to capture any hates dear my source. I also have a Ben Q gaming monitor that has a hasty my out on it. So with this, I complied my game console into my monitor and then output from the monitor into the capture card and then into O. B s. So if you want a monitor specific for gaming a recommend using one with a hasty my out, the exact monitor I use is the bank. You are l 2460 24 inch LCD monitor on the exact capture card I'm using is the mAj well USB video capture device 10 80 p. Also attached as a resource is the pdf of the equipment that used for live streaming, So please feel free to download this if you like. A list of the exact equipment are use and have been mentioning in this class. So to access this download, just click onto Project on Resources underneath. Of course, Player. And then from here, under resources, you can download the pdf. Alternatively, you can use a hate steer, my splitter. So you go into the hatred and my splitter. Then one of the outputs will go to a regular monitor on the over output will go to your capture card. So using a hey, HTM I splitter is actually the more affordable way of doing this. And it works fine as well. Also, this magical capture card will capture the audio from the hate. Dear my source. I'm also using a much older game here. This one is called Worms Armageddon, and it's actually appears one game, and I'm playing this on the PS two. So this game here is from the 19 nineties on the PS two doesn't actually out book with hate , dear my actually outputs as r c A. So also, I am using an RC a too hasty in my converter, I don't put the exact one in the pdf attached this video as well. So remember, you can't just plug your game console straight into your computer. You will need a capture card to capture the video and audio from your game console. Of course, if you're playing a game on your computer, the same one that you're live streaming gun, you will be able to capture your monitor in O. B. S. But, for example, if you want to stream yourself playing Xbox or PlayStation, you will need a capture card. So now let's talk about my camera. So I'm actually using a muralist camera on I'm capturing a clean hasty in my source from this camera. The capture card amusing for this is the Al Gatto Cam Link four K. So I take the hate steer my out of my camera into the hasty my on this can link four k on. Then I plug this into my computer via USB. If you are doing this, though, you want to make sure that you're using a camera that has a clean Hey, HTM. I out because you don't want to have the camera settings on screen. I'm actually using a Sony a nine mirror less camera, but the a seven mark free. It's much better value for money, however. I like the A nine as it has a longer recording time. But to be honest, that doesn't matter for streaming, as were not recording on this camera. We're just taking a hasty my feed out of the camera. I'm also using battery that plugs into the mains, as if I use one of the camera batteries. It may run out drawing my stream. I'm also using a 24 to 70 camera lens, which is a zoom lens, which allows me to zoom interacts, which can be useful if I need to change a few things around on my desk. Or if I have another person on my stream on, I want to zoom out to capture myself and the other person on the camera. So this is higher quality than a USB camera, however, is a lot more expensive, and it can be more tricky to set up. One thing to note when you're using a camera like this. Whether capture card, there will be a slight delay so the capture card will actually be delayed slightly, so we'll need to use something called sink offset so the microphone will not be in sync with camera. So what we need to do is click on the cog icon down here. Next, Astri mike, and go to advanced audio properties. You notice here I have some sink offset. So if your camera on your microphone are out of sync, I recommend checking out the sink offset video I have in his course which will show you exactly how to find the right sin command that you need. Okay, so these are the capture cards are used for my video. In the next video, we're going to be looking at studio mode in O B s for live streaming. See there.
4. How to Use Studio Mode in OBS: Okay, so now let's have a look at studio mode in O. B. S. So studio mode actually allows you to preview what you're going to stream before it goes life. And we can access this by clicking the studio married button under the controls. For example, if I go to this scene here, PS if I just move myself over like so and then I hit transition, you notice I'm here in the middle so this could be useful for moving camera position, for example, like personally find it easier, quicker just to have a new scene of a different camera position and switch to this one instead. So instead of having studio mode selected, I would normally just have this disabled and then just switched to the different scenes so I can switch camera position like so. Also, if you want to use studio mode, do have to remember to press this transition button here. Of course, you can assign this to ah hockey so you can use key on your computer's keyboard to trigger this transition button. And remember, you can set up the hot keys by going to settings and then go into a hot keys and then go down to transition here. Then click on this empty bar here on press a key on your keyboard, for example. I will press shift. You can see we have the shift I can hear and then go down to apply on. Okay, and now whenever I press shift on my computer keyboard, it will trigger this transition. But, um, so now I'm going to press shift, and it triggered the transition. However, I'm actually going to go back to settings on Remove this hockey. So let's go back down to hockey, click on the transition here, and then press the trash icon and then press apply. Also, be careful when using hockey's. If you're using your computer's keyboard for a game that you don't actually hit the hot key by mistake. There is also the Al Gatto Stream deck, which allows you to map the scenes on different settings in O. B s to a controller. And to be honest, this looks great, but I personally just use my track pad on my computer mouse. I also recommend using the two monitors or even free monitors, if possible. So I actually use free different monitors. So one monitor has the gameplay. One monitor has O. B s and the other one has YouTube or the site that I'm streaming up so I can check that the stream works on there and also see the comments and how many people are watching the stream ? You can also resize O B s and YouTube and put them both on to a war monitor. And then you can just use two monitors. So one for the game play on one for a Bs and YouTube. Yeah, you do really want to or more monitors because it is quite difficult to do all of this just on one monitor. I also use this same set up for my music production live streams. So you can do this not only with gameplay, but for my streams. I don't actually use studio mode. I find it a lot easier just to click through these different scenes instead off going on studio mode and then having to click transition or assigning this to a hockey. Okay, so that's studio mode. If you do want to use it for me when I do live, streaming is just me. There's no one else there. There's no one controlling O B s for me. However, if I was part of a bigger production where someone else Waas controlling O B s for me. The studio could be great because they could get in exact position before they go life. But when it's just one person doing all I personally think just clicking through the scenes is actually a lot easier. A lot more convenient. So thanks for watching. 5. Trouble Shooting in OBS for Live Streaming: Hi there. Welcome to this video where we're going to be looking at trouble shooting in O. B. S for live streaming. So I do recommend watching this video. If you have any issues with your stream, I first of all, recommend checking your bit rates so you can access this by going over to settings on, then going to outputs. You can see down here we have our bits, right? So if you are having any issues with your stream, I do recommend reducing your bit rates, but I don't recommend going lower than 1500. I also recommend to not go above 6000 or don't go above 50% of your Internet upload speed. There are sites you can use to check your Internet speed, for example, speed test dot nets. Another thing you can do is actually reduce your cameras resolution, so this could be useful for the videos where you're in the corner, for example, if you're small in the corner, then it doesn't necessarily have to be hey HD because the images smaller so you can reduce the resolution to reduce training for your video recording or stream. So if I go on to this one here, PS, Let's move myself over to the right and then under camera here in the sources I can right click on this thing, go onto properties so you can see here. I can choose my resolution if I have this one here. Hi. You can see it's much larger and that may actually strain my recording or stream. So remember, right click on this going to properties, going to discard the changes. And I'm going to use this one here 9 60 by 5 40 This obviously isn't as high resolution but as the images so small Anyway, it doesn't really need to be that high quality. You could also try reducing the canvas depending on your game, for example, for these older vintage games is not going to be 10. 80 p or it could even be less than 7 20 for even older games. So you could try reducing the canvas feel game so I can right click on the PlayStation source here going to properties, and I could choose a lower preset. And right now we have it on 7 20 already. If I have it on 10 80 you can see much larger on probably won't make any difference. And if it's on 7 20 anyway, well, not much difference. I do recommend checking your game console and also the games resolution before doing this, though also, one more thing to mention is the audio mixer on the audio tracks. So under the audio mixer, let's hit the cock and go on to advanced audio properties. So in the trucks area here, you'll notice that all of these tracks are checked. So just make sure all of these tracks are selected. This is so that they will all go to your stream track, which by default will be track one. Also, remember O. B s is very CPU intensive, and you will need a powerful computer to run this, especially if you have a lot of different sources. High resolutions. I also recommend using an Ethernet cable to plug your computer directly into your WiFi box so that your Internet is more stable than just using WiFi. 6. Test Stream in OBS and Going Live on YouTube: Hi there. And welcome to this video where we're going to be creating a test stream. So the first thing actually recommend doing is balancing the levels between the mic on the game audio or your computer audio. And then I recommend doing a test recording. So let's use this source here just going to create new game. And now let's enable the audio for this computer game. You know, you can hear the audio coming through there and make sure that Michael here is that a good level as well. Okay, so let's just make some noises in this game, and then I'm gonna hit record. Okay? So I just shut the wall with a bazooka. Great work. Then when you're done, it stopped recording. Just going to mute this audio from the PlayStation. And now let's have a look at this test recording. Okay, so I just shot the wall with a bazooka. Great work. Then when you're done, it stop. Okay? I think that is a good level. I can clearly hear the microphone on. You also have enough audio from the computer game. So once you are happy with your levels, I recommend going over to YouTube or wherever you want to stream your video and then getting your stream key from this platform So we can do this on YouTube by going up to create and then go to Goa life. Then we will need to create a new stream. I'm just going to call this one example and then hit, create stream. Then under stream settings, you notice we have the stream key on. We can copy this and paste it into O. B. S. You also want to make sure that your stream key is kept private. So let's go back to O. B. S. And then under settings. Let's go over to stream and here we can paste in our stream key. Also, make sure you have the correct service selected for here. I have YouTube slash YouTube gaming and then go down and hit, apply and then hit. Okay, I also recommend doing a test stream. So let's go back to YouTube. And I'm also going to go up to the edit button there, and I'm going to change this from public to private. So only I can view this because otherwise you don't wants dio a test dream. Andi have it Go live when you are just messing around and checking out the levels. We want to be as professionals possible. So I'm going to test it was a private stream. First of all, then hit. Save. Now that's going back to yes. And now we can go over and we can start the stream to the stream as life you can see their life. Let's go back over to YouTube. It says there looks like you're ready. Make sure the audio works make sure their video plays back. Fine. Then when you're ready, create new stream and set it to public. And that way your viewers will be able to see your stream on.
