1. Introduction: hi, everyone, and welcome to my skill share course on origami flowers. Now, in this course, I will be teaching you how to fold three of my favorite origami flowers that will include a tulip rose and an iris. I think all these a really beautiful They were great as a decoration or as a gift. You could even hold a bunch of different flowers and turn it into a bouquet such as this one, which is actually the bouquet from my wedding. Now my name is Kevin and I've been folding and designing. My own origami is for the past 10 years. I love sharing my passion for origami and teaching new people how to fold. This course is part of a much larger Siri's I'm releasing to teach origami in that Siri's. There's courses on boats, boxes, birds, animals, action models, modular, origami and a lot more, so make sure to follow so you don't miss any of those. Now, this course is geared towards beginners, so you don't need any previous experience in order. Got me to be able to pull these flowers. I'll teach you everything you need to know while you need to get started. is just a sheet of paper and I'll go over that in the first video, so let's get to fold it.
2. Paper Ideas: No, The great parts about origami is you don't need any special materials to fold. All you need is some paper. Now, in this course, I do use two different types of paper. In the first video for the Rose, I use a sheet of printer paper that I cut down into a square and then in the other two videos on the tulips and iris, I use just your standard origami paper. There's just a pack. You can get it most. Art stores six inches by six inches. Now the paper looks like this. Ryan has color on one side and white on the other side. Sometimes you can find some have color on both sides. Now, if you go to the art store and they don't have any origami paper, go try the scrapbooking section. Usually they'll have a bunch of different kinds of really cool looking paper with patterns and different designs on it. No, we don't have origami paper, and you don't want to go to an art store. But you just want to start folding right away. Just look around your house. I'm sure you'll have some paper that you can fold with. You could try this printer paper. Try music paper that down into a square or newspaper. There's loss options. I'm sure you have something around. Just as long as you cut it down into a square. It should work, so let's start folded.
3. Rose: In this first video, I'll be showing you how to fold a rose. I'll be using a sheet of printer paper that I cut down into a square. I do that because this one does show both sides of the paper. So if you fold from a kind of paper that has a color on one side and then white on the other, it ends up looking like this, which still does look pretty cool. But I like this a little bit more now. If you have a sheet of paper that's a rectangle and you want to cut it down into a square, All you do is you take that paper and then you'll fold it right along one of the diagonals so that these edges lineup and then you'll just cut off the remainder of the paper right along this edge, and then you'll end up with a square. Now, once you've folded this rose, if you'd like more of a challenge, you can try to fold one that has more pedals. This design does work like a fractal. I'll show you how to do this at the end of the video, but you just repeat a couple of the steps, and then it will add more and more pedals. You do need a pretty big sheet of paper to fold one like this. This one has 12 petals. This one has 20. But it is a really fun challenge. So I encourage you to try that once you get to the end. Well, let's get down to it. Now we're going to start by Valley folding in half along both of the diagonals, so we'll bring this top right corner down to the bottom left corner, make sure both of those corners lineup, then hold them in place and the increase it all the way across and no unfold. Next will bring the top left corner down to the bottom right corner and the increase that corner to corner. Yeah, and then unfold again. Next, we're going to do what's called a blintz fold. So we're gonna bring each of these four corners into the center of this X, so we'll start up here on the top right corner. Bring that quarter down right into the center of that X. Hold it right there in the center and increase it. Now we're gonna repeat that with the other three corners will move on to the bottom, right? Increase that one. And now the bottom left and then the top left. Next, we're gonna make another blissful. So we'll bring each of these new corners that we have into the center of this X. So we'll start with the top corner, bring that right into the center and then crease it now, just like before. Will repeat that with the other three. Corners will move on to the right corner in the bottom corner and then the left corner. Now let's make sure all of that's crease down nice and firm. And next, we're gonna make another blintz fold. So we'll bring each of these new corners into the center of this X. We'll start with the top, right, right into the centre. Increase it down on paper is quite a bit sicker now, So you got a crease really firmly and then move on to the bottom, right. We have to use a bit more force to crease Leah's well in the bottom, left in the top. Left. Next, we're going to take each of these corners. We're gonna fold them out a little bit, so I'm gonna start with this corner right here, actually going to rotate a little bit Now we're gonna fold this up, and this point is going to go. Just passed this edge. So I'll fold it first and then show you closer Just what it looks like. So you'll see. It just goes a little bit past this edge. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just get it. So it looks about like this. Then we'll repeat that with the other three corners. So we'll move on to this right corner, then fold it out the same amount as you did the other corner, just like that. And the same on the bottom. And then the left for this next step will pick the paper up and we're gonna be focusing on this corner that's on the top. Right? So I'm gonna rotate slightly. Then we're going to be folding this corner behind at about the halfway point between this edge and the corner. So we're gonna be mountain folding this so it's going to go behind, so I'll show you how that works. Fold it right back. Should look about like that. Show you from the other side. Now again if this were to have folded as a valley fold, that corner would be touching this point, but we're folding it behind. Next will rotate and repeat that on the next corner and rotate. Do that again and rotate one more time. No, your flower should look like that. Next, we're gonna focus in on this area right here if you'll notice there's a point that can swing freely. If you take that point, we're going to fold it out to this point right here, and we'll make a valley full that runs between this edge and this edge straight across. I'll show you what I mean, just like that. Next, we need to repeat that with the other three points. Will move on to the bottom, right in the bottom, left in the top left. No, this next step will be really similar to the last one. If we look in at this point, you'll see there's another layer of paper that consuming free. So where is going to take this point and swing it out to this point and repeat that with the other three? Two more then last one. Your flower should look like that now for the final step. We're going to shape each of these pedals and round them a bit. We're going to look at this pedal on the top. I like to do this just with my fingers. You can take the end of a paintbrush or pencil and wrap the pedal around it, but I think it's a little easier to do by hand. So look at this from the side. Let us take the pedal and around it. But legs that Then when you look at it from the side, it's got a nice life like structure to it. The orders repeat that with each of the remaining 11 pedals. So we'll move on to this next one, and I'm gonna rotate each time I do this. Well, actually, speed this up so you don't have to sit through the whole thing in, In there. We have it. So if you take your time and shape these each of those nicely and give them some nice curves, it looks really great. This is perfect to add onto a card. You could also try to make a stem for it and glue it on. But I think this looks really good and as I mentioned before. If you have a bigger sheet of paper, you can add a lot more pedals to this. You just keep repeating those steps, and then you'll have to shape each pedal individually. But it does look really cool if you're able to do it, but it does require a pretty big sheet to get this many pedals. 4. Iris: In this next video, I'll be showing you how to fold in Iris. This is a really cool looking flower that has four pedals. Now we will encounter a new type of food called a pedal fooled, and it's a little bit more complex than the ones we had before. So I'll go really slow to show you how to do that. Then you should be able to follow along. It's nothing too crazy. And then at the end of the video, I'll show you how Teoh modify this slightly so you can fold multiples of these. And if you add two colors together, it looks really cool. Then you can fold a bunch of different colors and mix and match and pick your favorite. Now I'll be using a six inch square from a standard origami paper pack. Now let's get started. So we're going to start with the colored side up valley. Fold in half along both of the diagonals, so we'll bring this top right corner down to the bottom left corner. I told both of those corners in place and the increase it all the way across and then unfold, numbering the top left corner down to the bottom right corner, Increase that corner to corner and then unfolds. We'll turn the paper over next to a valley, fold in half along the horizontal and the vertical. We'll bring this right edge over to the left edge, make sure it lines up corner to corner and increase. Sat down and then unfold. No, bring this top edged down to the bottom edge, then increase that all the way across and then unfold. Next, we're gonna form a bunch of these creases at the same time. The easiest way to do this is to take two opposite corners. Then we'll bring them down to meet the third corner, and a bunch of creases should start to form. As you do this. Once those three corners have met, come, bring the fourth corner down to meet up with them as well. Then close it up. Impress it all down. Now it should look like this. We have to flaps on the right and two flaps on the left. Now, for this next step we're gonna do, it's called a squash fold. Make sure you have the opening at the bottom. I'm gonna show you an extra step at the beginning. That makes this a little easier and helps understand how this fold works. We're gonna take this top right edge and bring it in tow. Line up with this center vertical crease. Do this with just the top layer, increase the and then unfold. Next, we're going to separate these two layers apart from each other. And then this crease should start to run vertically. And as you begin to press this down, this crease should line up all the way from the top down to these edges. And then that crease we just made should form naturally on its own. Now we're gonna turn the whole thing over. It will make another squash hold on this side. But this time I'm gonna do it without that first step. So if you just open up these two layers and then bring this crease straight down in the center, just crease those down. Then it should look just like it did on the other side. But it saves you a step. Next will take just one flap and swing it over from right to left. Just like you're turning. The page of a book is actually called a book fold, and then we're going to make another one of those squash folds with this flat. So if you spread these layers apart, then you can bring this crease into the center and squash it down and then turn the whole thing over and we'll do a book. Fold with this flap and then a squash fooled with this flat. Now everything should be symmetrical. Next, we're going to turn this area into a pedal fold, and there's a couple pre creasing steps to do that. So if we take this top point, bring it all the way down to the bottom, line that up and then press it down, then unfold. Next, we'll take this edge on the bottom right and bring it into the center. Do this with just one layer. Increase it down. It should run all the way out to this bottom corner. Do the same thing with the bottom left edge and then unfold both of those. Next, we'll start turning that into a pedal, fooled if you take this layer and swing that up along the first crease we made. And then the next creases we made should start to form on their own And then, as you swing this point up, some new creases will start to form that run from this point up to the top in this point, up to the top of this corner. If you swing the point up as far as it could go, those creatures creases should form naturally. Next, we'll swing this point down, making a new valley fold that runs from this point to this point no, turn the whole thing over. Now we'll make another pedal fold on this side. So repeat all those steps will bring this top point down to the bottom unfold. Bring the bottom right edge into the center, huh? In the bottom, left edge and unfold both of those and then swing the one layer up, close up these edges and bring that point all the way to the top. Inform those new creases and then swing this point down. Next, we're going to make to book folds. So turned one page and then turn another page, turn the whole thing over. Do another to book. Folds shall be symmetrical. No need to make another pedal fold here, but we already have this first crease in place. So we just need to bring these two edges into the center. We'll bring the bottom right in the bottom, left and unfold, turn it into that pedal fold and then swing that point down. Now turn the whole thing over and repeat that on this side. The bottom right edge, bottom left edge unfold on a swing. The point up. Bring these edges in, then suing the point down. Next, we need to make a book fold. So turn one page. Make sure it's just one page. It should be a whole solid flat now and turn the whole thing over to one more book. Fold now in a rotate 180 degrees. So all these points are at the top Now next, we need to bring this bottom right edge. Bring into the center vertical crease. Try to make it line up all the way down to that bottom corner. Do that with the bottom left edge and then turn the whole thing over. Unfold both of these edges in. Now make to book folds turned one page. Turn the second, turn the whole thing over and to book folds. Then repeat those steps here. Bring these two edges into the center and then turn it over and bring these two edges into the center. Next, we'll start to make this three dimensional. So if you take this one flap and fold it down just as far as it goes and turn it around, do the same thing with this flat. Then fold this flap over and bring this flap down, turn it around. Knew that with the last flap and then point each of these flaps out at a 90 degree angle to the rest of the bottle. They're all poking straight out. Next, we're going to curl each of these. Those is easiest. If you have a small tool like a paintbrush or pencil, we're gonna take this flap and put the end of the paintbrush right underneath, then will roll this around the paintbrush all the way like that, and then just let it go. That's a nice curl to it and do that with the other three flaps. - Now you have one completed iris flower. Now, if you fold a 2nd 1 with a different color, I'll show you how to put those together. You take just this point and stick it straight in here, You want to skew them so the pedals are opposite each other. It does look really cool, but if you look from the side, you can't push it all the way down. So the way there is a way to get around that. And if you pull that back out, I'll show you how that works. You'll need Teoh pull these pedals back down and close this up. And then if you open the layers apart so that you have this point, you can take that point and pulled it down. That's right, where it starts to catch just like that. Then you can close it back up and do that with the other three points. Let's move on to this next one. Just open it up, pulled the point down, preset and close it up, then moved to the next one and close all those up and then you can bring those pedals back out. Now, if you look at it from the side, it's perfectly flat. So if you take that other flower again and then push it right in there now consider lied all the way down. It looks really good. You can try all sorts of different color combinations. And then you can threaten, mix and match for a bunch of different colors. Find something that you like. But most combinations will look pretty cool. No, I would love to see your results. Make sure to post your photos in the project section, and I will see everyone in the next video.
5. Tulip: Now, this last video, we will be learning how to fold a tulip. This is one of my favorite flowers. Twofold. I think it is really beautiful. It does involve two sheets of paper, so you'll use one sheet to fold the flour and then another one to fold the stem, and then it just slides right on. So all of using two separate six inch sheets of paper now, once you've folded the stem, you could also add that to the iris flower that we made in the last video if you just poke a small hole in the bottom of that one. But like I said, this is one of my favorite flowers. So let's get started now. We're starting with the colored side up that will valley fold in half along the horizontal and the vertical covering this right edge over to the left edge. Make sure that lines up corner to corner and the increase it down and then unfold. No, we'll bring the top edge down to the bottom edge, increase out across, then unfold. Now we'll turn the paper over that will valley fold in half. Along both of the diagonals could bring this top right corner down to the bottom, left corner, increasing corner to corner unfolds and bring the top left corner down to the bottom right corner, then unfold. Yes, we're gonna form a bunch of priests at the same time, so we'll take opposite sides and hold them, and then we're gonna bring it down to the bottom side. As you do that, a few creases should start to form, and then we can spread these corners apart, and then the fourth side will come down to meet the others. Should form a nice triangle. Press everything known firmly. You should have two flaps on the right and two flaps on the left. Next, we're going to take this corner on the right and we're gonna bring it up to the top. Do this with just one flap. Bring it all the way up to the top and the increase it down. The Cree should run all the way to the center, on the bottom under the same thing. With this flap on the left, you can turn the whole thing over and repeat those steps on this side. Spring this right corner up to the top in the same thing with the left corner. Next, we're going to do a book fold. So we're going to swing one flap over from right to left, like you're turning the page of a book and then turned the whole thing over and make a book fold on this side. Next, we're going to take this edge on the top, right? We're gonna fold it down just past this center line. So watch me do this one and then all show you really close how it works. So you'll see the crease started from this top point. And then, if you can tell where the center line is folded, this edge just past the center line should look like that. Now we'll do the same thing with this edge on the top left. Well, photo folded over. Just barely passed that center line. Next. If you look at this flap underneath, you spread these two layers apart. You'll see you conform a little pocket. I'm gonna keep that pocket open that we're gonna take this point and we'll insert it into this pocket and then close it up with that point in the pocket like that. Now, turn the whole thing over do the same thing on the side to take this top right edge unfolded just passed that center line. This time you can this line it up with the edge that's underneath the same thing with that top left edge. Now open up that pocket that's underneath and insert the point in the pocket and close it up next if you pick it up and look at the bottom. If you spread these layers apart a little bit, you should be able to notice a small hole. So we're going to have to put our lips over the bottom, and then you're going to blow directly into it and inflate it. As you do that, you'll kind of put some pressure on the edges on the side. Here. There should inflate the whole thing, so I'll try to show you what I mean. Like that. Once it's inflated at least a little bit, you can push down on the bottom should be ableto pull those to the sides and make it look nice. Now to form some pedals, we're gonna look at it from the top. If you look closely, you can see there's actually five different points here. Four of them. You can pull out to the sides a little bit. Then there's the one point in the center. So if we take just one of those points it was, peel it away. Pull back gently. You can peel it away a little bit. That was do the same thing with the other three pedals. This rotate as we go. Yes, Peel it back. You can make these pedals as Bigas you'd like. I like to do them pretty small. I think it looks really great like that. Then peel the last one. Don't worry. You can adjust these a little later. Once we put the stem in, you can get it just how you like it. Now put that aside. Now take the sheet that you'll be using for the stem and start that with the colored side down. Well, valley fold in half along one of the diagonals, so I'm gonna bring this top right corner down to the bottom left corner. Increase that and then unfold. Now we'll bring this right edge until I along that diagonal crease now do the same thing with the bottom edge. The two edges should meet Now. Next we'll take this top edge and we'll bring that into that diagonal crease. Now bring the left edge into that crease. Next, we'll take this edge and fold that over again into this crease. Now, let's make sure to hold this layer in place. As you do that, the same thing with this edge. Bring it into that crease. Now turn the whole thing over. Notice. The skinnier point is on the bottom, right for me. Now we're full. This in half. Bring this point up to the top. Next willful. The whole thing in half along this crease in the center. Close it up this way. Next. Similar to the way we shaped. The pedals were going toe Peel away one layer. You can open it up a little bit to make it easier. Just peel that back and you can shape this leaf. How you would like I do it about their and then your stem is finished? No, If you take that top part, then you'll notice that hole that we used to inflate it with for you to stick the point of the stem directly into that hole that it should be able to stand up on its own. This might be wanting toe lean over to one of the different sides, just moving around and adjust it until it's just right. It should be able to stand up, but we're all done.
