Hi Friends! My name is Tammy -- an empty nester, grandmother, and mixed media artist with a heart full of curiosity and creativity. After my kids left home, I discovered a love for modern calligraphy and watercolor painting. That creative spark soon led me to mixed media collage, and now I'm an avid paper collector who sees beauty in every little scrap!

As a self-taught artist and lifelong learner, I find joy in experimenting -- whether through new art techniques, a good book, crocheting, or diving into video learning. I truly believe we're all creators at heart. When ideas meet action, something beautiful is born.

For me, art is a way to move from chaos to beauty -- a chance to leave a meaningful mark, whether in the moment or for generations to ... See full profile

1. Paper Doll Doodles: Hi, my name is Tammy and I am an artist. I'm actually a crafter. I just love making all kinds of things. One of the things I really like is doodling. I like making envelope art and drawing all over things. But one of the things I have hesitated on is people. I've had I've been procrastinating. Let me just put that out there. Putting people on a page. When a friend described how to do these cartoony, basic faceless people, I was on it. I immediately saw how simple this could be and I wanted to share that with you. If you've hesitated on making people, this class is for you because it's basic. It's a few shapes, a few tools. Anyone can do this. But the possibilities are huge. I can't wait to show how this works. If you follow me on my socials, you've probably seen some of these paper dolls. In fact, I've probably drawn, I don't know, 100 and I feel like I've cracked the code on breaking through procrastinating, learning how to draw people. This basic class is full of possibilities. Imagine turning them into cards, thank you cards, birthday cards. But with a little bit of personality, you can even turn these into something that looks like the recipient. So join me in my class. I'd love to share this doodling, these paper dolls that I have, and it's so simple. I know you're going to love it. I can't wait to see these projects because it's going to be that simple, you're going to be able to make them quickly. Follow me into the next class and I'll show you exactly what you need. 2. Supplies: What's required when you want to be doodling, I find it really helpful to have some inspiration, something to really help guide what I want to create. Some paper. I have found this very inexpensive paper. You can see how thin it feels. But I liked it because I thought I could maybe paint on it. So whatever you can use for paper, if you've got the back of an envelope or extra scratch paper, it will be perfectly fine for our project. Something to draw with. Do you have a pencil, erasers, whatever you need to do to help you get your ideas onto paper? A ballpoint pen or a fine liner, I'm going to be using 0.5 only because I think it shows up nicer. Very simple to doodle. Let's get started. 3. The Process: So just keeping track of what it takes for me to just sit down at my desk. I had 2 minutes to clear my desk, then I had to let the dog out. 2.5 minutes to get my setup, the camera, the pod, the supplies. Then it took me 4 minutes to find all the drawings I had done before. So here we are. I know I can do this. I've done it over and over and over and over. It's such a simple idea. And actually this is actually one of my very first. I know I can do this. I'm setting the timer. How long will this actually take me? I'm going to start with a U and then do two short sticks. Then I'm going to do two short sticks, and then I'm going to do two sticks go on the opposite, and then I'm going to put some arms in. Now, this is where you're going to decide you want your hands behind or hands in front. I'm going to say hands behind. Let's draw our element and then hands are behind, so now I don't have to draw any hands. Are we wearing a skirt today? Sure. Let's wear a skirt today, and let's put in a neckline. More lines there. How about hair? And maybe a swoopy bang look. Okay. If you have to have legs, great. From here, what do I want? Do I want buttons down her front? Do I want to draw flare of her skirt, ruffle on her skirt. Do we want a face or are we going to leave it no face? How about her looking down at her heart holding in her hand? And I'm calling it good. Took me a minute and 39 seconds. All that stress and prep and worry about getting something done on paper, a lot of the times it's in your head. It's in your head. Let's go back and think about exactly what we're doing here. I'm making a U shape. You can just assume the face at this point and how big do you want your neck? How long do you want your neck? Shoulders rounded or not rounded. Coming down, or is it curving in ever so slightly or is it perfectly straight? And the inner of the arm. If you do your hands first, you draw this in at an angle and add a sleeve, add a little mit for a hand. They could be holding something. Maybe it's a present. Maybe, who knows? Are we going to do a dress? Now for hair, what are you feeling? Something big and crazy and bold, some swoopy bags as well. The neckline Look at that. Immediately, this person has a neck. Again, This is such a simple design. And it took a minute. It took a minute for you to breathe out, let go the stress. Maybe we want a wide face or maybe your shape just grew that way. Who knows? A wider neck? Look, my line wasn't even straight. It's okay. It's these basic shapes that I fell in love with in creating this paper doll. Maybe we have roughly sleeves on this dress and her little mit hands. What is she holding here? Another heart. A V and an M up here. That's as simple as it gets. It's up to you. I haven't really perfected how I like dress shapes. And I haven't quite decided how I love leg shapes. We could leave that off as for hair. What if it's a wavy little bob? And it's just a swoop for bangs. This person's looking happy looking up the neckline. And there you go. These ideas are so basic, you can embellish going crazy with this. I really think letting go and just getting something on paper is so free. We've got to get out of that procrastination and just make something. 4. Wrap Up: Thank you for joining me. I hope you had some fun with this and you have these ideas turning in your head on what we can do with these. Would you review this class? I would love to hear from you how this was inspiring, how you just took 5 minutes and followed along and made your own paper doll. I can't wait to see that. Share that at the project section. We all inspire each other. I would love to see this explosion of creativity with just these basic shapes. Now, stay tuned because I'm going to share more ideas on how to do these paper dolls and what we're going to add to them, turn them into cards to prints. However you want to use these, maybe you want to even make some clothes and dress them up, we're going to have some fun with this. Stay tuned. Thank you for joining me. Have a great day.
