Meet Your Teacher
Hi Friends! My name is Tammy -- an empty nester, grandmother, and mixed media artist with a heart full of curiosity and creativity. After my kids left home, I discovered a love for modern calligraphy and watercolor painting. That creative spark soon led me to mixed media collage, and now I'm an avid paper collector who sees beauty in every little scrap!
As a self-taught artist and lifelong learner, I find joy in experimenting -- whether through new art techniques, a good book, crocheting, or diving into video learning. I truly believe we're all creators at heart. When ideas meet action, something beautiful is born.
For me, art is a way to move from chaos to beauty -- a chance to leave a meaningful mark, whether in the moment or for generations to ... See full profile
Hands-on Class Project
Your project is all about getting a quick win and having fun while trying something new. You’ll learn to create simple doodle people using basic shapes U, —, |, V, /, and M by combining them and making your doodle person uniquely yours!
Step 1: Start with the basic shapes
-
Using a pencil, draw an exaggerated U shape for the face and chin.
-
Add two lines for the neck, and two lines extending left and right for the shoulders.
-
Draw two lines down from the shoulders for the arms, and two inner lines to indicate the inner arm.
Step 2: Draw the elbows and hands
-
Draw the inner and outer arm lines diagonally toward the body to create the elbows.
-
Add hands (or not) using one of these options:
-
Imagined hands: Imagine the hands are behind a heart. Draw a heart wide enough to reach to the end of the arms concealing the hands.
-
Mitten hands: Cuff a sleeve by connecting the inner and outer arm with a straight line across. Add a small U shape at the end of each arm. Imagine the hands are holding a heart. Draw a wide M shape above the hands and a V shape below.
-
Step 3: Draw the body and legs
-
Draw two straight lines down from the elbows to indicate a skirt or pants.
-
Choose skirt or pant design
-
Skirt: draw a line straight across or slightly curved for the bottom of the skirt.
-
Pants: Use a ^ (carrot) shape to indicate legs between the outer lines.
-
Women’s legs can end in a V shape below the skirt.
-
-
Optional: Add shoes as ovals at the base of the legs.
Step 4: Add a neckline and hair
-
Draw a neck line using a U or V shape.
-
Draw hair flowing from one shoulder over and above the top of the U shape to the other shoulder.
-
Draw a line across the top of the U of the face to indicate bangs.
Step 5: Make it your own
-
Try changing features or adding props to create new and unique doodle people.
- Experiment with different hair types, face widths, eyes, or accessories like hats, capes, or flowers in her hair.
-
Time yourself and see if you can finish a doodle in under 2 minutes—a fun challenge that builds confidence!
Step 6: Share and inspire
Post your doodles in the project gallery and share your attempts. Let’s inspire each other, celebrate small wins, and keep creating!
