Hands-on Class Project
Your project is to create your own modern Areca palm watercolor painting!
Start by watching the demonstration to understand the techniques. The wet-on-dry method we'll use creates clean edges while allowing for beautiful color transitions within each frond segment. Don't worry about perfect symmetry – natural palms have their own character!
Begin with the provided sketch or create your own to establish the basic frond structure. Free-hand painting is welcome if you prefer. Fill your palette with the suggested colors to create your range of greens. Work jumping from light to dark, painting each segment deliberately to build depth. Load your brush with slightly different green mixtures for various segments to create natural variation.
Always test your green mixtures on scrap paper first. This helps you understand the paint consistency needed for clean edges and smooth transitions.
Share your finished piece in the project gallery! Tag me @livingpattern and use #livingpattern to be featured on my Instagram account.
