Nowadays, content creators such as bloggers and Instagrammers use this platform a lot to edit their photos and gives them a unique look for social media, adobe Lightroom is available both as a mobile application on iOS and Android, and also as a desktop application on Mac and Windows. Mobile app is free to download, but if you wish to use all the features available is requires you to get a Creative Cloud subscription. Adobe Lightroom uses a non-destructive editing workflow, which means that your original photos are always safe and you can revert to them at anytime with a basic subscription, you have access to the essential features such as exposure, white balance, and colors. Adobe Lightroom is a fairly intuitive application, but it can take some time to get familiar with all the features. That is the reason why I created this online course to help you navigate and understand all the features this application has to offer to make your photo standout. Once you have installed the application, it is not timed to walk you through the interface. In the next video. 4. Lightroom free editing features: Once you download the free version of the application, you'll notice that a few features are not accessible, but fear not the features available will allow you to learn the basics of editing. So here's what you get with the free version. They can access and organize your photos. You can edit your photos with limited features and you can also export your photos for now, here is an example of what you can do with a photo, with the basics. If you open the app and then just import a photo, then you will see this screen, the clone, your phone in G Edit tab. And then you'll see at the bottom all the different settings. So it's up to you if you wanted to do it. Portrait mode. If I actually want to do it in landscape mode, I personally prefer to foods that talented. That's my personal preference, but then it's up to you. Here at the bottom you can see all the different settings that you get. A free version of Lightroom, you look gonna get a crop. The crop settings, which allows you to crop your photo according to your needs. So if you would like to post it for social media, most of the time is 24 by five format. They've yourself to re-frame your photo accordingly. Or you can just do a vertical nine by 16, and then I can reframe it accordingly. Then you get access to the light and color settings. I'm not sure if the FX part, this part of it. So I'm just going to focus for this example wizard lighten the color adjustments. So as she opens or light tab, you'll see all the different sliders for each different adjustments, settings, folder light, both. Where are you going to deep dive into it? And Beth later on during this course. But just for the sake of this example, I'm just going to quickly at it and just to show you the result that you can get just by using the simple version of Adobe Lightroom, the free version. So here in this case I find that it is a bit too. X plus for my taste, I'm just going to reduce the exposure. I'm going to increase the contrast a little bit and increase the shadows and one Paul details to put boats. Just going to keep some highlights a bit low, increase the whites and reduce the blacks. And then I'm going to go into the color is and those of quarters. And we're going to play around with the temperature. Let's say like debt increase the vibrance. Here. You can play around with the saturation tool. Like to desaturate my photos and just increase the vibrance. Don't worry again, we're going to deep dive into the difference between saturation, vibrance, everything into details in the next videos. But it's here as you can see, which just a few simple adjustments. There is a before, make sure easy after we just managed to bring back some colors into the photo to bring to make it, right. Unfortunately, with the paid subscription, you don't have access to the color grading or the individual color adjustments. But this is something that I'm going to show you later on on the benefits of using fuzzy sets production of Adobe Lightroom. So here again, just going to decrease the fat. That here again, this varies. A beach forearm. He just seemed to hold your finger on the screen. And once you release it, you'll be able to see after results of your editing. So this is the first example of what you can get with Joseph free version of Adobe Lightroom. As you can see, it is good to learn the Editing Basics. However, if you want to take your editing skills to the next level and are planning on becoming a full-time content creator. I highly recommend you to get a paid subscription to follow along z editing tips I'll be sharing with you in the next videos. 5. Lightroom full editing features : Lightroom software, I used to cost $299, but since their lungs are Creative Cloud plans, you can now use it from 12 €29 per month in Europe or from 1990, $9 in the US. This is a photographic plan and includes everything you need to start a photography freelance business. If that is something you're interested in, you'll get 1 tb of Cloud storage, a free Adobe portfolio website. They will get access to Lightroom and Photoshop latest features. And you'll also be able to easily edit organized store and share your photos from anywhere. You can have a look at the available plants using my referral length. I won't even the description of this course. Lightroom CC is not mobile version of the software and it's connected to Adobe Creative Cloud services. Imagine having the same adjustment tools and the desktop version available right in your bucket. You can also import your desktop presets to the mobile version to edit your photos faster or create and save your presets directly in the application. This is something we will discuss in the press at section in this or my course. For now, let's take an example and show you the benefits of choosing the bed version. So here, what we're gonna do is start with colors. I'm going to go into the quarter gridding and usually where I like to do is to play with the shadows and highlights are in the shadow that will usually go into the blues. Like you can go around until you find something that you feel comfortable with. But may I already know the way I like to edit my photos I had already know what will look good. From my perspective. I like to go into the blues for the shadows. And then you can increase this translate to sliding a finger up and down. Something like this will be good. Then I'll go. I wouldn't touch. It's a mid tones and I'll go straight into the highlight. And then to highlight, just a matter of finding what looks good for you. Usually the purple to blue. Seemed like the full before the first day. I'm wearing is the temperature a little bit. And then I'm going to try to pouches for us individually. I would like the columns to be less saturated. Or maybe change the color so you can use a hue to change the corners to make it look a bit more than vivid something goods. They drill. As far I could use a chorus of this guy. And the encoder also, Shay. So just by playing around with color and so we're starting to get some interesting results. So here is a before, here is the after, before. After. You can see that the plain color is really make a change to your photo. Then you can do with a better version is going to effect, can play with the clarity to bring more details into thoughts of your photo. It works great for like keys you want. If there is some texture on your foil that, that's a very good tool to use. Another tool that is used is masking. I'm going to walk you through my process of how AD tonight, which all other that I did it wrong. So that you have a better understanding of how to use all those settings, don't worry. So then I like to finish by masking and then I will just use a linear gradient from the top. Reduce exposure. It don't worry, I know that it looks dark, but there is a reason for it. And then I'm going to go to the bottom part to the same sang and reduce exposure. And now I'm going to add a new one and go to the radio bridge end and open it fully wide and then increase the exposure. Might need to add another line. I'm saying I do this. Here's a before, here is your ester. So what do they do with those? I'll mask. She might wonder. For me, personally, I like to use those mastic credit vignette loop we want because it allows me to plus sunlight wherever I need it to be. Contrary to using Vignette, see she just use the vignette is just going to darken the corners of your image. But you won't be able to, to play specifically where you want the light to hit on your photos. So here, for instance, I just wanted to relate to focus on the center part of the image. I'm going to increase actually is a clarity for one of those detail. Effects. Go and go out. Rage is a higher-end. It's cool. That looks good to me. I'm happy. Tick the box here is a before Sherrie, the after. I might just need to I'm going to trace the top here. This one that's on the decrees, a highlight to bring back some blue cloners, lieutenant doctrines of button plot. There you go. So here is a before, here's the after. If it's too warm for you, you can play around with the temperature and decrease. The clutter is you're trying to go into the color individually and reduce the saturation. Cool. Here's a before, here's the after. So this is just a quick example to show you how you using all those different settings. Settings with a pestle depression, you can allow you to give a Southern life to your photos. Again, here is a before and after. Here's a photo with just basic adjustments, and here's one with all the features. Overall, Lightroom is a very powerful application that I recommend to everyone willing to step up their photo editing skills. Once you will know how to master the software, editing your photos won't be trading momentum. Few sitting in front of your laptop for hours editing. I take on average 1,000 photos when I traveled to a location and edit my photos in about one or 2 h max, thanks to electron features available unsafe to the storage features, I'm able to recollect a specific photo by using keywords are looking through folder is created every time I import my photos. If you're serious about photography, Lightroom is definitely the softwares that you need to use. 6. My complete editing workflow: When it comes to editing, I like to use the following workflow. I'll start with cropping the image to my liking and give more interests to the photo composition for the eye of the viewer. Sometimes we just take a photo of thinking of coping and flavor. Then I will use a light adjustment to play with the shadows and highlights to give the photo a unique look. I'll then go to the corner adjustment. This is where you can differentiate yourself as a photographer. Something like their photos to pop and be very colorful while others will remove most of the colors and keep a moody style to their photos. It's really up to you to play around with the adjustments until you find your unique style. I personally like my photos to be colorful but with a hint of a faded look. Then you can go into effects and medicines go into effects. You can add grand, more clarity, soften the image, add filters, et cetera, itself. So another method to give your photo a unique look and differentiate yourself from zeros are photographers, there are reasons why I follow these steps is for two reasons. The first one, because every challenges that you apply to your photo will affect the quality and the look of your image. So if you crop your photo at the end of your edits, it will reduce the quality of the photo in terms of pixels. But if you change the colors first and then adjust the light, you will have to bounce back and forth to get the results that you want. So following these steps will help you save a lot of time and keep the quality of your photo. And two, because it allows me to tell a story and give my emotions to the viewer. For instance, light adjustments will help you to reveal more details on your photo. And color adjustments will help you to create the mood that you are looking for. I hope that all makes sense. Now that you have an idea of my workflow, Let's go ahead and start editing. 7. Lightroom light panel: In this video, we'll talk about the light adjustment. Here's what you need to know about adjusting lights in a photo. Lighting photograph is broken down into three parts. You will get the highlights, you get the midterms and the shadows. The highlights are the brightest parts of the image. The mid tones are neither shadows or highlights, but rather a middle value of luminance. And finally, the shadows are the darkest parts of the image. In this video, I'll show you how you can adjust those three parts in less than a minute with Adobe Lightroom. First, open the photo you want to edit in Adobe Lightroom. Then click on the Light tab. Use the exposure slider to adjust the overall brightness or darkness of the photo. Then you can use a contrast slider to increase or decrease the difference between the light and dark areas of the photo. User highlights and shadows slider to brighten or darken the highlights and shadows in the photo. That you can use a whites and black slider to increase or decrease the brightness of the white and black areas of the photo. Once you're done, you just have to click on the Done button to apply also changes. You can see before, after holding your finger on the screen. And you can see that just adjusting the lighting brings a new dimension to your photo already. Now, onto the next video to use a color panel. 8. Lightroom color panel: To use the Color panel in Adobe Lightroom, simply click on color in the panel in the develop module at the bottom of the screen. You can then begin adjusting the various color settings. First, you can use the temperature slider to adjust the overall color temperature of your image. You can slide to the right to make your photo look warmer within the orange tones and slide to the left to make it look colder within the blue tones. Next, you can use a tint slider to adjust the overall color tint of your image, you just have to slide to the right for magenta tint, which is ideal for sunset photos, and to the left for green tint. The saturation slider is to adjust the color intensity of all the colors in the photo. Saturation is an absolute adjustments and it affects all colors equally. The vibrance lighter add saturation to a photo, but it does it in a smarter way than the saturation slider. Vibrance is not an absolute adjustment. It protects already saturated colors and colors typically found in skin tones. Just drag to the left to decrease saturation and to the right to increase it. Now you may wonder what's the difference between saturation and vibrance? Well, they both increase intensity of the color in your image. However, they both do so differently. You see saturation intensifies all the color in your images, while vibrance is more specific and its effect is focused on the mid tones of anemia. You can also use a hue saturation and luminance sliders to make most basic adjustments to the colors in your image by tapping on the mixed button at the top right. You can select the colors individually and adjust them to render the photos as you wish. Click on the color you like to adjust. Afterwards, choose a hue saturation or luminance option and use a slider is going left or right to adjust the strength. You can also use a little toggle above the Coraline, pick an area of the photo with the color you want to adjust and simply slide your finger up and down to adjust the saturation hue or illuminance, you'll need to select one of the three options at the bottom first before making the adjustments. And then to reset any of these changes you've made, simply click the reset button, all double-tap on the middle point of the slider. Once we have adjusted the color separately, you can use a color grading wheels next to them mixed button at the top right. This will allow you to adjust the highlights, mid tones, and shadows with unique color tones. This is how you can create the orange and teal looks has become so popular on social media. Now that the color grading is done, Let's jump into applying the effects in the next video. 9. Lightroom effects panel: Lightroom's effects panel is one of its most powerful tools. It allows you to quickly and easily add a variety of different effects to your photos. One of the most popular effect is a vignette effect darken the edges of your photo, which can help to draw the viewer's attention to the center of the image. To add a vignette, simply click on the vignette button in the effects panel. Then use the slider to adjust the strength of the effect. And other popular effect is a clarity effect. This effect adds contrast and sharpness to your photo, which can help to make it more striking. To add clarity effect, simply click on the clarity button in the effects panel, then use the slider to adjust the strength of the effects. The effects panel also contains a variety of other effects that you can add to your photos. Experiments with different effects to see what looks best for you with your particular photo. Now, let's dive into a more advanced way to edit your photos, which requires using masks. 10. Lightroom Masks: To use masking in Adobe Lightroom, just select the masking tool from the tool palette, then click on the blue plus button to select a mask option. There are several type of mask that you can use. The most popular one being radial filter. It's a gradual filter. Select subject and select sky. I will walk you through those in this example. Alright, so in this example I will walk US briefly on how to use a different type of mask. So if you type on the mask setting then plus button, you'll be able to adjust to those shoe selections. So first, I'm first going to start by adjusting a few things on the photo like I showed you earlier. So I'm just gonna go to invite, just say exposure. Contrast highlights, increase the shadows. And the blacks. That'll play around with the colors. Like my photos to be a little bit desaturated. Yeah, a bit called something like this looks good. And then I will come to the mosque effect. And what I really wanted to bring back the details of those trees must keep me as a center. As a subject of this photo, like in the center of the frame w plus button. And what I usually do is start with a linear gradient. Linear gradient is just a gradient that you can add on the whole photo or just some parts of the photo, whether you want to adjust some parts of the photo. So here in this case, I just want to bring back the details of those trees at the top. So I'm just going to increase brightness a little. Highlight. Increase the weight. Just want to bring the details slightly. Alright. Thoughts of first. Then the next thing that I can do is to use the radial gradient. And the radial gradient is like a circle and in which you can also adjust where the resetting the ontologist. Here, like I mentioned, I want to bring back those details. All the trees. I add a contrast to keep the sharpness on the image. Something like this. And the next thing that I want is myself to be exposed. So in that case, I use this new features that allows you to select a subject. So this gives you selected the tree also, but don't worry, you can remove it later on. So what I'm gonna do is just focus on May 1st, increase the shadows a little bit of exposure. Not too much. Try to keep it as realistic as possible, but this will allow the megaphone repopulate all. Alright. So we managed to brighten the image and then you can play around with the colors. That's something we're going to see later on. But that's basically it. So the mosque or law you to adjust part of the image without affecting the rest of the image. So here we managed to bring back the tree branches at the top that were totally darken in the image. So my photo was underexposed. And thanks to those mask, I was able to adjust it. In boast that the magic of masking. I highly recommend you to play around with it and get familiar with it because this will allow you to bring a second life to your image, but also to attract the eye of the viewer towards the part of the photo that you want them to pay attention to. As you can see, using mass can be poor full to attract the eye of the viewer towards a specific part of your photo. I personally use it all the time to give them moody feel to my photos, but also to guide the eye of the viewer towards my subject. Now that you know how to use the masks, Let's see what we can do to clean up the mess from objects that we do not want to see. 11. Lightroom Masks editing example: Let's do another example with a landscape shots to you. Another example of choosing mask with a landscape shots. Here. I'm going to start by using the, sorry, they're linear gradient. The bottom parts of thing I'm going to darken the image a little bit in order to gain control of the image. Go to just a tad over x plus one. You see that your photo is the third overexposure can use those mass in order to control them a token. And here you can select this guy directly. Then go to the light and then it can increase it to your liking of k like that. And then you go to the bottom parts. I'm going to use a radial gradients. Are these pots in the front? I'm going to use a brush for the mountain. For the brush you can adjust the size and the strength also have this, I have to tap on it. And it's going to show you. This meant that you can do. So I just selected this and I'm going to go to the light and crazily. And the shadows bring back some contrast. You can adjust this trends by just lessen your finger again on top of the first selection that you can eat. Right? And here you can adjust the saturation it should wish. I'm going to go down to this one. The saturation here to Sharpie with the mask, as you can see, it will allow you to adjust specific part of the image. So here we just control this part of the image that we wanted to, to make a bit brighter or you can darken it as you please. And then we selected the sky to adjust it also specifically and we adjusted the color of the Montana and lighting on the mountains. And we use those to gradual filters at the start just to darken the image and then control the overall result of CMH, our learning should see that the image is still too overexposed again, civil go back to the main settings and add just a little bit to your liking. But again, you should do that. It's going to, is going to adjust the whole image. So it's up to you, up to your liking. If you don't want the overall image to be adjusted and you can just go through the mask. But that's basically it when it comes to using mass, it is very straight forward. You just want to select both of the image that you want to be highlighted. You can even use those masks to hide part of the majority don't want but just reducing the exposure. And yeah, that's basically it. If you have any questions, if something is unclear, don't hesitate to leave a comment down below and I can create another tutorial. In terms of choosing masks. 12. Lightroom Healing Brush: Ideally, you will not need to do this as you should, make sure that your photo composition is perfect. But sometimes we are on the go or we want to capture some things that cauterize and do not necessarily have the time to work on the composition if you want to capture some moment, right? Though, thankfully, is a healing tool with Adobe Lightroom is here to help. I was a lettuce at debt. It is even better. It allows you to do three things. The first thing is to remove Saigon is to heal, and third one is to clone. Now let's dive into it. With a Remove tool. You can size your brush to work best with the item you want to remove. So you just have to swipe your finger over the full object to remove it. Here's a pro tip. If removing multiple blemishes, you make sure to use several smaller strokes to get the best results. This is the best to use to remove a whole object, a background distraction and blemishes when you brush over Lightroom will look at the surrounding areas of the image to determine how to fill the area with the best look. Now the heal tool is best for skin and quick cover-ups. And once you've brushed area, Lightroom Burroughs a texture from a source in your photo to blend with a color and turn off your target area. You can control the source area for the heal tool to get the perfect lunch. And finally, the clone tool. This one is best for patterns and replacements. That clone allows you to copy and paste and other parts of your image and Lightroom will define a source for your clone, but you can also move the source to wherever it looks best, It's up to you. These tools are great if you wish to clean small things in your photo, but they are not always the best. But that gives you an idea of what you can do whenever you need to remove small things on your photos without having to use Photoshop. 13. Presets: Using Lightroom mobile presents is a great way to save time when editing photos on your mobile device. Presets are simply a collection of settings that you can apply to your photos with a single tab. This is what we've done so far manually. Once you add it to your library, all you have to do is copy and paste setting applied to the original photo and the photo that you wish to edit. And finally, with a bad version of the app, you can create your own presets. Just edit your photos as you will normally do. Then go to preset, tap on the three dots icon, click track preset, give it a name and where you wish to store it and hit Save. Now you can reuse the same presets you created on the rest of the photo series that you took to keep acquisitive look and edit your photos faster. You can also batch edit your photos by applying Presets on them. You simply have to edit one photo of your series and then select the photo from the library. Click on Copy, then select zeros are photos and click on paste. This will batch edit your photos and keeps us them look for that photo series. How to sort your photos: There is no one definitive way to sort and organize your photos in Adobe Lightroom CC mobile, however, some suggested methods include creating albums or collections within the app, using tags or keywords to help with searchability or using the built-in sorting options. But here's my personal approach. After editing my photos, after editing my photos, I will solve them once more. And to do that, I will use the rate and review feature at the top-left. I prefer to use a flag methods on Nobody rises and this tau1 adjust it to flag up to keep the photo and then flag down to remove it. And then I'll go through all my photo series. Once all sorted, I filter all the photos that have been flagged down. I select them all and I delete them. Then I'd filter all the photos that have been flagged up. I click on Add to create a new album and add them inside. Whichever method you choose. The important thing is to be consistent in your approach so that you can easily find an access your images later. And also thanks to Adobe Sensei, which is the REI, you cannot automatically organize your photos into albums or collections based on certain criteria such as location, date, or even events. Once your album is created or your photo is edited, you can export your photos into your phone gallery. What up to you to decide what to do next. Create an album or their print, or even share it on social media. 15.
