1. Welcome to the Class: During my childhood
days till now, I always believed that art is something that brings
me a lot of peace. When I was younger,
I used to believe that painting is something
that scares me a lot. When I started exploring, it became better and better. Back then, we used poster
colors for painting, and recently I
have realized it's a very good alternative
for Gh colors. And it also gives a beautiful
matt finish after it dries. Hey buddy, you're
most welcome to my new class myself,
Thick Patel. I'm a self taught
independent artist and an interior
designer by profession. You can find most of my artworks being
displayed on Instagram. I go by the name
Shiraj Articians as someone who's very much
passionate about teaching. My major focus is always
to create classes for beginners who are trying to develop their skills
on a regular basis. I personally love to explore different art styles and mediums and not stick to
one particular thing. So if you join me, you'll find a variety of classes
that I create. In this class, we
are going to paint a beautiful lighthouse
with a seascape. Before starting with the class, we are going to understand the entire class project
in detail and all the elements which combines together to form this
beautiful scenery. I'll be giving you
all the details about the art supplies that you'll
need for the entire class. No need to worry at
all in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. You'll find it very easily in
any nearby local art store. We're going to talk about
the color palette that we're going to use in the
entire class project. Before starting with
the class project, we're going to have a
beautiful practice session in which we are going to
learn about all the elements, how to paint them in detail. There are going to be easy and simple painting techniques, which are absolutely
beginner friendly. In case you're using a coaster rather than a watercolor paper. I'll be teaching you
how to place it onto the desk surface using a simple masking tape so
that it will not move. We're going to start by
painting a beautiful, vibrant sky in the background, which is going to have a
beautiful gradient effect using the tints and shades
of a beautiful color. We're going to create
some nice clouds and some snowy hills. We're going to paint a
beautiful water body. The major element of
the entire painting is going to be a lighthouse
that we're going to paint in detail using simple and easy
techniques for painting. There is going to be
a nice landscape area connected to the
entire lighthouse, having some beautiful grassy
texture that we're going to create using some beautiful
painting techniques. Adding some minute details
like trees fence and a beautiful sun in the
sky area all over. Combining some minimal
elements together we are going to form
a beautiful scenery. I'm super excited to share this class with all of you and I invite you to this beautiful art journey without any delay. Grab your art supplies
and let's get started.
2. Details About the Class Project: Hey buddy. Now let's talk about all the details about the class project that
we're going to create. If you observe carefully, there are two paintings
in front of you. One is painted on
a square coaster. Another one is done on
a watercolor paper. The watercolor paper
painting that you can observe right
now is a prototype that I created initially
so that I can move towards my final painting that
I did on a square coaster. The painting method
is absolutely same. The techniques that we're going to use are absolutely same. You can choose any of the good alternative
that works for you. If you want to paint
on a watercolor paper, that is absolutely fine. If you want to go for
a square coaster, that also absolutely works. Now, there is a simple
color palette that we're going to create in the
color palette section, where I'm going to
teach you about all the primary colors
that we're going to use. There's going to be a simple practice session in
which we are going to learn about all the elements and how to paint them in detail. No need to worry at all. The elements that you
can observe right now are very easy
and simple to paint. You just have to learn some
basic painting techniques. Now let me take you towards
the final painting. You can observe a
beautiful gradient sky using some nice cobalt blue. There is a beautiful lighthouse having some nice details in it. There is going to be this
beautiful landscape area having some nice grassy texture that we are going to create, a nice fence element, a snowy mountain that is
painted on the horizon line, and some beautiful landscape in the bottom portion as well. There's going to be a nice sun and some clouds in the sky area. The best part about
the entire painting is that you will need a
very minimal color palette. You can already
observe the colors are placed just
above the painting. All right, these
are all the details about the class project
that we're going to create. Now let us move
towards the next part.
3. Art Supplies: Everybody. Now let
us learn about all the art supplies that you will need for the entire class. No need to worry at
all in case you're missing out on any
particular art supply. You'll find it very easily in
any nearby local art store, or you can go for any other
good alternative as well. As you can observe, I have
placed all my art supply on the desk surface in
a systematic manner so that I can give
you a nice brief. Here you can observe the class project that
we are going to create. The first one is a simple class project that
I have done on a square coaster of
six inch by six inch. Another one is a simple
watercolor paper of size six that I have cut
it into a perfect square. It is absolutely
fine if you want to go for a watercolor
paper as well. Here is the plain coaster
that I have used. The sides are 6 ". If you want to experiment with the shape and size
of the coaster, that is absolutely fine. There is no major difference
if you want to go for a watercolor paper in case you're missing out on a coaster, it is absolutely fine. You can use an six
size watercolor paper and you can simply cut it
into a perfect square shape. Or if you want to
go for a rectangle, that is also absolutely fine, you can use a 300 GSM
watercolor paper. It is going to have
a good thickness so that you can apply
heavy washes on it. The painting method
is absolutely same, does not matter if you use a coaster or a what color paper. Then next up, we have a simple
masking tape that we are going to use to place the
coaster onto the desk surface. And you can also use the
masking tape to apply it onto the borders of the
watercolor paper so that you can get this
beautiful white edge. All right, now let us move
towards the next art supply, which is a simple tissue paper. You can observe it's
a simple tissue paper which is having a lot
of color patches in it. We are going to use
this particular tissue paper to remove, access amount of
water and color. The next up, I have a simple
ceramic color palette. You can observe
there are a lot of colors on the entire
color palette. Just make sure that your
color palette should have enough space so that you can take out multiple colors in it. The next up, I have a simple glass container
in which you have to hold some clear
water so that you can clean your brushes
whenever required. Now comes one of the most
important art supply, which is the poster colors
that we are going to use. The best part here
is that you will need only six basic colors, which are basically
also a part of primary colors that you can already observe on
the entire container. The colors are
basically cobalt blue, red, black, white, green, and lemon yellow color palette that you'll find very easily in any nearby local art store. In case you want to substitute
it with wash colors, it is absolutely fine. There won't be any
major difference if you use poster
colors as well. In case you are a
beginner, you can definitely start
with poster colors. Now let us talk about another
important art supply, which is the brushes that
we are going to use. The first one is a flat
brush of size nine. The second one is again a
flat brush of size seven. In case you're having any
one brush out of two, that is absolutely fine. Then we have two round brushes, one is of size zero, another one is of size three. Yeah, these are all
the four brushes that you will need
for the entire class. In case there is a minor difference in the
size of the brush, it is absolutely fine. No
need to worry about that. Then I have the last art supply, which is a simple
pencil that we can use to draw a rough
sketch wherever required. These are all the art
supplies that you will need for the entire class.
No need to worry at all. You'll find it very easily in any nearby local
art store or you can go for any other good
alternative as well. Now let us move
towards the next part.
4. Color Palette: Everybody. Now let us understand the color palette before
starting with the class project. So that you can get
an exact idea of the application of the
color onto the coaster. Or in case you're using
a watercolor paper, you can already observe
the class project. Here we are having
some beautiful amount of cobalt blue which is
used in the background. There is some nice
black color which is enhancing the entire landscape
area and the lighthouse, of course, which is in a
beautiful white and red color. Let me place the
class project aside. Here you can observe I'm having
a simple practice sheet, which is basically
an art journal in which I practice on
a regular basis. I have labeled all the colors
in the bottom portion, and now I'll show you the application of
the color one by one. Let us start with Cobald Blue. Take some gourmount
of Cobaldblue and apply it onto the paper. You can make a good consistency of water and color together. Once you have applied the color, you can just simply
clean your flat brush. You can use your
flatbrush of size seven. Then you can take another
color which is green, and you can apply a nice patch
of green onto your paper. You can observe
that I have placed all the six colors on
the topmost portion, starting from cobalt
blue followed by green, red, lemon yellow,
black and white. Now I'll be taking some nice
amount of red color and I'll be applying its small
patch just above the labeling. The reason behind applying
these colors onto the paper or your practicing
journal is so that you can get an exact idea of
how the entire color looks once it's applied on the entire surface on which
you're going to paint. Whether it's a coaster
or a watercolor paper. So it is important to
understand when the color is in a liquid form and when it is applied on any
surface and it dries, The visibility of the color
is very much different. When it is in liquid form, we are done with all
the basic colors. We are not going to apply
white color onto the paper. It is not going to be visible. That's why I have applied the
black color onto the paper. Now if you observe
the next section, it is shades of cobalt blue
that we are going to create, which is a part of
the class project. A very simple and easy technique you can observe in
my color palette. I'm already having
some cobalblue shades. Basically means
that we're going to add some amount of black color, but you have to make
sure that you do not add a lot of black color. When we add a little bit of solid black color into bal blue, it becomes a little bit
darker in shade. Slowly. As you increase the amount of solid black color
onto your cobal blue, you will observe that the
entire shade of cobalblue will get a little bit changed from the first shade
that we applied. It's a very simple
and easy technique of creating shades of
different colors. You just have to apply a little
bit of solid black color. As you increase the
amount of black color, you'll find a variety of shades that are
going to be created. You can use these
particular shades to create some nice depth and details
into your paintings. Also, it is a very simple
and beautiful technique of creating different shades, using a single color and
adding some black color in it. Right now, we are doing it
with bal blue because we are having major color as bal
blue in the entire painting, but you can experiment
with other colors as well. Now, if you observe another labeling in
the bottom portion, it is tints of cobaldblue. This is again a very
simple technique of adding a little bit of solid white color in the cobalblue. As you'll increase the amount of solid white color in bal blue, you'll observe different
tints of cobalblue. This will help you
a lot to create some noise variation
in the sky area. That is how you can create some beautiful tints of
this particular color. You can already observe
the decrease in saturation from the first
color that we have applied. This is how you can mix and
match two colors together to create some nice shades and
tints of a single color. We are done with the
entire color palette. I hope that you
got an exact idea of how you have to create a color palette before starting
with the class project, so that you can get an exact
idea of its application. Now let us move
towards the next part.
5. Lets Practice the Elements: Hey buddy. Before we start
with the class project, let us have a beautiful practice
session in which we will learn about all the elements and how to paint them and pave. The practice session will
be a very nice warm up. Before starting with
the class project, just below the color palette, I'm going to use my simple
masking tape to apply it onto the borders so that once we are done with the
entire painting, when we remove it,
we are going to get a nice white border on the sides in case
you're not using a coaster and you want to
paint on a watercolor paper. You can apply the masking
tape onto the borders. Just make sure that
your masking tape is parallel with the paper edge. And you apply a little
bit of pressure so that it gets stuck with the
entire watercolor paper. Now using a simple pencil, I have drawn a horizon
line which basically uprates the sky area
and the water body. Now in the color palette, if you observe carefully, I have taken some cobald blue and mixed some solid white color in it so that we get a nice
light tint of cobald blue. Start applying it just above the horizon line in a very
slow and steady manner. You can observe it's a
simple horizontal movement. Now add a little bit of cobald
blue from the color tube, and you will observe that we get a darker tint of the color. And you can apply it just above the first tint that we applied. There's a little
bit of difference between both the colors. Now, on the topmost portion, simply clean your flat
brush again and apply the exact tint of the cobald blue directly
from the color tube. You will observe that there
is a nice darker color on the topmost portion and a little bit of lighter
color in the bottom part. This is how you have to create a beautiful gradient effect. No need to worry about the exact shade or tint
that I have created here, because the amount of
color mixing will be definitely a little bit
different of yours than mine. Now let us paint the
water body as well. You can add a little bit
of solid black color in bal blue to get a
nice darker shade. And you can apply it just
below the horizon line. You can use the tip
of your flat brush to paint just below
the horizon line. And then you can add
some solid white color to get a lighter
tint of the color. Now you will observe a line of separation between
both the colors. Just simply apply horizontal
strokes in between them. The more horizontal
strokes you'll apply, the better blend you'll get
between both the colors. Now you can simply hold your
flat brush in this manner, having a pointed edge. And you can just take some nice darker
tone of cobald blue. And apply these
horizontal strokes in a very random
and natural way, just above the horizon line. In case you want to go for a solid white color,
it is absolutely fine. You'll get a nice
cloud effect and you can take some
darker shade of cobald, blue and black together to apply these
horizontal strokes in the water body as well to create some nice depth and wavy
effect onto the water body. It's a very natural element. No need to worry
about perfection. I'll be using my round
brush of size three. Take some good amount of solid white color in
your round brush and just simply apply these little horizontal
strokes in the sky area. No need to hurry at all. We are just painting
some beautiful abstract clouds in the sky area. You just have to combine these little horizontal
strokes together, forming some beautiful
natural shapes. If you observe, the class
project is also having some beautiful abstract clouds
in the left hand portion. So there is no specific
way of painting clouds, as you all know that
clouds generally have a very natural and
organic shape. You can create your own composition of the
clouds as well. You can decide the position. You can play with the
shape and size as well. Also, one more
thing I would like to tell you is that
no need to worry about painting it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now. There might be a little bit of difference and it
is absolutely fine. Now you can observe
that we have created some beautiful abstract clouds
in the entire sky area. Now if you're observing the
class project carefully, we have a beautiful snow hill just above the horizon line. You have to create
the base color first. You can just add a little
bit of solid white color in the bald blue that we already
have in the color palette. We can use our round
brush of size zero. Or in case you want to use your round brush of size three, it is absolutely fine. Now simply you can observe, I created the outline of
the entire mountain first, and then you can fill in this entire color in
the inner portion. No need to hurry at all, Just try to paint it in a
very slow and steady manner. You can observe the color is
completely different with the background color to make the entire snowy mountains look a little bit
more attractive. You're going to add some
more solid white color into the color palette using our
round brush of size zero, and you can create
some nice texture of solid white color on
the topmost portion. It is a very simple
and easy technique. Just make sure that you have less amount of water
and more color. In case you find that your brush is having axis amount
of water in it, you can simply dab it onto the tissue paper so that
axis amount of water will be removed and you'll
be able to get this beautiful white texture
on the topmost portion. Now this is how you can create some beautiful depth onto
the snowy hill or mountain, whatever you want to consider. Yeah, we are done painting
a beautiful snow hill. Now let us paint some
nice landscape area, which is going to be
in the foreground. I'll be using solid
black color in the same round brush
of size three. You can start by initially creating an
outline, basically, in case you want to
draw an outline using a pencil first and then
fill in solid black color. That is also absolutely fine. Right now, I'm
creating the outline using the brush directly. Now, once you're done
with the outline, you have to fill in
solid black color in the entire portion. Make a good composition
of water and solid black color together
in your color palette. No need to hurry at all. Try to make the color more saturated by having more amount
of color and less water. You can observe the
direction of my round brush. It's a simple vertical
and horizontal movement. You can use the tip of your round brush and apply
very less pressure to paint in smaller areas in case you find that your color is getting
finished from the brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. Right now, you can
observe that we have painted a huge landscape area. There is no depth and reflection of this
particular landscape area. But similarly, you
have to create one more landscape area on
the bottom right corner. You just have to apply this
nice random black patch now to create some nice
reflection effect. And to make some nice depth
in the entire landscape area, I'm going to use my same
round brush of size three, have some good amount of
solid black color in it. And apply these
horizontal strokes just below the landscape area. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Try to keep your hand
very much loose and free. While you're applying these
beautiful horizontal strokes. If you observe there is a nice fence element in
the class project. You have to use the tip
of your round brush. Create this horizontal
and vertical lines near the landscape area. If you observe carefully, there are these little trees which are not that well defined, just solid black patches. In this vertical format, you can just make
a combination of two to three trees together and paint it just above
the landscape area. You can use the tip
of your own brush to get the trees in a
very perfect manner, and it creates a nice sense of aesthetics to the
entire painting. As you can observe
that we are done painting all the
solid black elements. Now you can observe this
beautiful grassy texture which enhances the entire
solid black landscape area. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to
observe it carefully. You just have to make a nice gray shade in the color palette. What you have to do is
you'll be already having some solid black color and
white in your color palette. If not, you can take some
more from the color tubes. Now, mix it well in the color palette and
create a nice gray shade. It's basically a combination of solid black and white
color together. Now, once you create
a nice gray shade, use your round brush of
size three and create this beautiful texture on
the entire landscape area. But we are applying the texture in a very random and
natural way only. There is no specific
way of painting it. I'm basically creating
some nice texture on the entire landscape area which is going to
create some nice depth. Right now, we have added the texture using this
beautiful gray color. Now what we're
going to do is just simply clean your round brush
and we are going to take some nice green color this time so that we can create
a nice grassy texture. Take some good amount
of solid green color. Dab your brush onto
the tissue paper in case you have axis
amount of water in it. Now observe the way I'm going to create
this green texture, just above the gray
texture that we created. We want to create
some nice depth and natural light will be falling directly towards
the landscape area. The green area has to be on the above portion of the solid gray texture
that we have applied. Again, the steps and
method is absolutely same. You just have to randomly dab your brush onto
the upper surface, this time using this
beautiful green color. Similarly, you can
apply the texture onto the landscape area that we have created on the bottom
right corner as well. Now to make the
grass look a little bit more in contrast with
the solid black color, what I'm going to do is I'm going to add some lemon yellow. In this beautiful green color, you'll get a nice tint of the color and the color
will be more visible, creating some nice
grassy texture. Trust me, you are
definitely going to enjoy this particular step
because there is no specific way of
applying the texture. You will just naturally
enjoy the entire process. You'll be definitely
surprised to see the beautiful output
that you get at the end. Now to make the entire surface look a little bit
more vibrant and in contrast to create some nice depth in the
entire landscape area, you can take some nice lemon
yellow in your brush and apply it on the topmost portion of the entire landscape area. You can carefully
observe the way I'm using the tip
of my round rush, I'm basically dabbing the brush
onto the topmost surface. It's not applying
an even coat to the entire surface because we want to create a grassy texture. So we are done applying a beautiful texture to the
entire landscape area. And it's a very simple
and easy technique. Now let us paint
a beautiful sun. Take your round
brush of size zero, take some solid
white color in it, and just simply paint a
circular shape in the sky area. You can decide the position of the sun according to your
convenience as well. It is absolutely fine. You just have to paint
a circular shape. We are done with the
entire practice sheet. Now let us remove
the masking tape. It is the most satisfying part. We just have to remove the
masking tape in an angle so that you do not end up tearing your beautiful painting. You can also observe a beautiful solid white border
that you get once you remove the masking
tape, we are done. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. The practice sheet was basically a warm up exercise before
starting the class project. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. I hope that you enjoyed the practice session and understood the color
palette as well. Now let us move
towards the next part.
6. Lets Place the Coaster: Hey buddy. Before starting
with the class project, let us learn how
you have to place your coaster onto
the disk surface. Right now, you can
observe that I'm having a simple masking tape that
we're going to use to place the coaster onto the disk surface so that the coaster will not move
while we are painting, in case you're using
a watercolor paper. This is how the borders
will look once you remove the masking tape after applying
it on all the four sides. But in case you're
going to use a coaster, basically a square coaster, there is a simple technique
that you can use to place your coaster
onto the disk surface. This is the entire
class project. Now to finish the
entire class project, you will need a
certain position of the entire coaster to be placed onto the desk surface so that you can paint in
a comfortable manner. As you can observe, I'm having a plain square coaster of
sides six inch by 6 ". Before we start painting, I'm going to take a small
part of the masking tape. Now you just have to
use its end and flip it over that the sticky part
will be on both sides. And place the masking tape on one of the corners of
the entire coaster. Since the coaster is
a little bit bigger, we're going to put out four
pieces of the masking tape, which basically acts as
a double sided tape. I have already placed two
pieces of the masking tape. I'm done with the
third one as well. I'll be placing the
last one as well. It's a very simple technique. Just flip your masking
tape over each other and make it as
a double sided tape. Now place it onto the desk surface wherever
you find comfortable to paint and apply some pressure using your fingers onto
the entire coaster. Now you will observe that your
coaster will not move from the desk surface and you'll be able to paint in a nice way. You can check it out by applying some brush strokes and applying some pressure
onto the entire coaster. And you will observe
that it will not move from the desk surface. This is how you have to place your coaster onto
the desk surface. Now let us move
towards the next part.
7. Painting the Sky: Hey everybody. Now let us
start with the class project. And the first part is painting a beautiful gradient sky.
You can observe that. I'm ready with my coaster
placed onto the desk surface. I'm ready with my color palette. A simple cup of water, all the colors placed on the topmost portion and
a tissue paper nearby. Before we start
painting the sky, let us separate the sky
area and the water body. I'll be using a simple pencil. Start from the
left hand side and simply draw a horizontal line
till the right hand side. Basically just create a
horizontal line which basically separates the sky
area and the water body. Once we are done
separating both the areas, I'll be using my flat
brush of size mine. Now in the color palette, I'm going to take some
solid white color. Since we have a good
surface area to cover, take some good amount
of solid white color. Now we're going to create a
nice tint of cobalt blue. Take some good amount
of cobalt blue in your flat brush and mix it
well with solid white color. In case you find that your
color is a little bit less, you can make some
good amount of color. No need to hurry at all. Try to make a good composition of both the colors together. Add a little bit of water. In case you find that your
color is very much solid, I'll start applying
the color just above the horizon line. No
need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Use the tip of
your flat brush to apply the color near
the horizon line. And simply, you can use
the entire surface of the brush to apply the color
on the topmost portion. Now we are not going to cover the entire coaster
using the same tint. Add a little bit of
bal blue again in the color palette to make
a darker tint this time. And apply it just above the
first tint that we painted. Don't worry about getting the exact shade that
I'm creating right now. You might get a little bit of difference in your shades and tints because the amount of mixing the colors will be
definitely very different. There can be a minor difference and it is absolutely fine. Now I'm going to take
the exact tint of cobalt blue and apply it
on the topmost portion. You can already observe
a difference on the topmost color and the color that we have applied just above the horizon line. There's a beautiful
gradient effect forming. Now you can just tilt your flat brush in an angle
to get a nice sharp line. And you can use the darker
value of cobalt blue to apply these beautiful
horizontal strokes in a very random
and natural way. This basically
helps us to create some nice dramatic effect
of clouds in the sky area. Don't worry about the blend. The color in the background
is very much wet right now. You can simply apply the darker values of cobal
blue in a random way. Clean your flat brush and
water and dab it onto the tissue paper to make it
completely dry and reapply. These horizontal strokes
on the entire surface, you will observe a
beautiful blend of the clouds together in
the background color. You can observe how
beautifully we get a nice gradient sky with some dramatic clouds
in the sky area. You can reapply these
horizontal strokes and create some nice depth and
details in the sky area. The more horizontal
strokes you'll apply, the better blend you'll get. I'll tell you one more thing that no need to
worry about getting the sky area in the exact same way I
have painted right now. You can create your own depth and details in the
entire sky area. Your shades and tints might be a little bit
different from mine, but it is absolutely fine. Now, once we are done
with the entire sky area, we can create some
more depth by using some nice tint of cobald blue you can observe
in the color palette. Now I'll be just
using my flat brush, keep it in an angle, and use it tip to create this nice cloudy effect just
above the horizon line. Now once we are done with
the background color, we are going to create
some nice abstract clouds which are going to
be in a very good contrast with the sky area. What you have to do is just simply take your round
brush of size three. In case you have a round
brush of size zero, that is also absolutely fine. Now simply take some solid white color in the
color palette. Mix it well with water. Make a good composition of
color and water together. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, simply dab it onto
the tissue paper. Now in the sky area, just randomly create these little horizontal
strokes combining together, forming a beautiful
abstract shape. You can add a little bit
of cobalt blue as well to make the vibrant white
color a little bit lighter. As you all know that
clouds generally have a very natural and
organic shape. There is no specific
way of painting them. You can create your
own composition and you can play with the
shape and sizes as well. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now. There might be a little bit of difference between
your strokes and mine, but it is absolutely fine. You can observe the way
I'm using the tip of my round brush to create these beautiful
horizontal strokes, which are combining
together to form a nice cluster of
clouds in the sky area. Now similarly, I'm
going to create a beautiful cluster of clouds just above
the horizon line. On the left hand side, now it is going to be a
nice solid white patch. Make sure that you get a nice
organic and abstract shape. No need to worry
about perfection in case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can definitely take some more color from
the color palette. I hope that you
got an exact idea of how you have to paint
these beautiful clouds. It's basically playing with the color only you
just have to create a nice abstract composition with the beautiful cobalt
blue background color. Right now, you can observe that the strokes that we have
created are very sharp. To make it a little
bit smoother, you can simply dip
your brush in water, make it completely clean, dab it onto the tissue paper, try to have a very less
amount of water in it, and reapply on the edges of the entire clouds
that you have painted. You will observe that the colors will get a nice blend with the background color and the clouds will become
a little bit smoother. This is the best part about poster and wash
colors that you can regenerate the paint
and you can get a beautiful, smooth effect. Once you apply some
good amount of water in a very optimum manner, there is no need of applying
axis amount of water. Just a little bit of water and dab it onto
the tissue paper. You can observe the way
I'm moving my round brush. It's a simple
horizontal movement. It's basically reapplying it on the same clouds
that we painted. Now slowly you can observe
that the clouds are getting a nice blend with
the background colors. Trust me, you're
definitely going to enjoy this particular step of painting
these beautiful clouds. It's really very much
peaceful and satisfying in case you're not that
much confident enough to paint the clouds directly
towards your background color. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. We are done painting
the abstract clouds in the sky area and we are done
with the entire sky area. Basically, I hope that you got an exact idea of how you
have to paint the sky area. Now let us move
towards the next part.
8. Painting the Snow Hills: Hey buddy. Now let us paint
a beautiful snow hill, which is going to be just
above the horizon line. As you can observe that we are done with the entire sky area. Let it dry for a while. Once you're done painting it. Now in the color palette, I'm going to take some
solid white color. And we are going to decrease its saturation by adding a
little bit of cobal blue. Just mix it. Well, take a little bit of cobalt blue
from the color palette. What we are going to do is
that we're going to create a combination of a
little bit of black, some solid white color, and cobalt blue
together to create a different shade so that it can have a difference with
the background color, which is basically
our entire sky area. Add a little bit of water
to loosen the color up and make a good composition of
color and water together. You can observe that we have
created a different shade. No need to worry about getting an exact shade that
I have created. Your shade might vary a little bit and it
is absolutely fine. Now use a simple pencil
to create an outline for the entire snow hill in case you want to paint it
directly using your brush. That is also absolutely fine. I'm using my round
brush of size three. Take some good amount of color, apply it on the outline first, and then fill in the entire
color in the inside portion. No need to hurry at
all. Try to apply an even coat of
the entire color. Right now, you can observe that the entire snowy hill is
very much plain and simple. It's a simple coat of color. That's why we're going to create a nice texture on the
topmost portion using some beautiful solid
white color that also basically replicates a lot of snow on the
entire snowy hill. No need to hurry at all, try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Once we are done
applying the first coat, we are going to clean
our round brush and dab it onto
the tissue paper. Take some solid
white color and just apply this on the topmost
portion of the entire hill. Make sure that your brush is dry and not have
excess amount of water because we want to create a nice texture topmost surface. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. We are not going to
cover the entire hill, we are just applying it
on the topmost portion. It creates a nice depth and detail to the entire snowy hill. Also, this is one of the
most satisfying part of applying this beautiful texture
on the topmost portion, you will definitely enjoy
the entire process. I'll be applying the
texture on the hills which are smaller on the
left hand side as well. We are done applying the entire texture to the snowy hill. I hope that you've
got an exact idea of how to create it now. Let us move towards
the next part.
9. Painting the Waterbody: Hey buddy. Now let us paint a beautiful water body
for the entire painting. As you can observe that we
are done with the sky area and a beautiful snow hill
in the color palette. As you can observe, I'm already
having some cobal blue, some solid white color. What you can do is you can take some more cobal blue to
create a nice darker value. Mix it well in the color palette by adding a little bit of water. Make a good composition of
color and water together. No need to hurry at all. And also make sure
that you do not have axis amount of
water in your brush. Now we have a nice darker
value of cobal blue. We are going to apply it
just below the horizon line. You can use the tip
of your flat brush to apply it just below
the horizon line. Then you can use
the entire surface of the brush to apply the color. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply an
even coat of color. Make sure that there is no space left on the entire coaster, especially on the edges. You can carefully observe
that we have applied a darker value of cobald
blue on the topmost portion. You're going to leave
some bottom space to create again, a
gradient effect. Add a little bit of
solid white color. You'll observe that it is a
little bit lighter in shade. Now you'll have to apply more horizontal strokes to blend both the colors together. And you'll slowly observe a noise gradient effect the way we created in the sky area. Now just keep your flat brush in an angle and using some
darker values of cobal blue. Again, what we are going to
do is we're going to create some noise depth in
the entire water body. It basically creates a
nice wave effect and makes the entire water body look a little bit more
realistic and aesthetic. It's a very simple
and easy technique. Just hold your
brush in an angle. Simply apply these beautiful
horizontal strokes. The more horizontal
strokes you'll apply, the better blend of
colors you'll get. Now, you can already observe
a nice contrast between the horizontal lines and the color that is
in the background. In case you find that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can take some more color
from the color palette. Now to create some more
depth in the bottom portion, add a little bit of solid black color in the
color palette. Mix it with bal blue and hold your flat
brush in an angle. And simply apply these horizontal lines on
the bottom portion. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way I'm
painting right now. You can create your own
horizontal strokes. Basically, the composition
of the horizontal strokes, you can observe
the way it creates a noise difference with
the background color. This basically gives
a noise wave effect to the entire water body. I hope that you've
got an exact idea of how to paint the water body. Let it dry for a while and let us move towards
the next part.
10. Painting the Lighthouse: Body. Now let us paint
a beautiful lighthouse, which is the major element of the entire painting and you're definitely going to
enjoy painting it. We're going to start by
creating a basic sketch of the entire lighthouse and the landscape area,
But before that, you have to make sure that your sky area and water body is completely dry because you do not want to spoil it
while you're sketching. While you're sketching,
your hand is definitely going to
be onto the painting. Make sure that your background
color is completely dry. Now, use a simple pencil
to create a basic sketch. You can observe,
I'm starting from the roof of the
entire lighthouse. Now slowly you can move towards the entire building structure by creating these
two slant lines. There is going to
be a nice house in the bottom portion attached
to the lighthouse. And it's going to create
some nice aesthetics. Create its roof and the walls. Now there is going to
be a complete landscape in the bottom portion. You can create its
rough sketch as well. You will have to concentrate
a little bit because the pencil line won't
be that much visible. But I'm sure that you
will definitely figure out where I'm drawing
the landscape lines. It is always great if you create a basic sketch before
painting it so that you get an exact idea of where you have to place your entire lighthouse
and the landscape area. There is also going
to be a little bit of landscape area on the
bottom right corner, so you can use the same pencil and create a nice organic line. Now, once we are done painting the outline and a basic sketch
for the entire lighthouse, let us start painting
the roof top. There is going to be
two roofs, basically. One is for the house
in the bottom portion, another one is for
the lighthouse. On the topmost portion, I'm using solid red color and take some good amount of
color in the color palette. Use your round
brush of size zero, Take some good amount of color, you can add a little
bit of white to make it a little bit more
lighter in shade. In case you find that your
color is a little bit stiff, you can add a little
bit of water in it. It is absolutely fine to
paint in smaller areas. It is always better to
use a detailing brush, that's why I'm using my
round brush of size zero. Now, similarly, we have one
more roof for the house. In the bottom portion which is attached to the lighthouse, I'll be taking some
more solid red color in the brush and apply the
color on the entire roof. You can paint the outline first and fill in
solid color inside. That is absolutely fine. You can use the tip of your round brush to paint
in smaller portions. Now you can observe that we
have painted both the roofs and it creates a nice contrast with the background
color as well. Now let us paint the wall of the entire house in
the bottom portion, but this time we're going to create a darker shade of red. Add a little bit of black
color in your red color. No need to add axis
amount of black color. It will make it completely dark. We just want a brownish color. I have added a little bit
of black color in it. Simply start applying this particular color
just below the roof. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Use the tip of your round brush. You can also observe
the movement of my round brush as well. You can observe that I have completely covered
the entire area. I'm just filling in the
color in the bottom portion. Right now, you will be able
to observe a minor difference between the roof of the house and the wall
that we painted right now, because we have added a little
bit of solid black color. Now to create some
shadow of the roof, take some solid black color
in the color palette. Use the same round brush of size zero and apply the color
just below the roof. Use the tip of your
round brush to get a nice thin line and apply
very less pressure on it. Now, once we have added
this nice thin line, you can add a little bit of black color and blend
it with the wall color, you'll get a nice shadow effect. Make sure that your brush is not having axis amount
of water in it. In case it is having axis
amount of water in it, just simply dab your brush
onto the tissue paper. You will slowly observe
a nice blend of solid black color with the
wall color that we applied. And it creates a nice shadow
effect in the entire wall. This particular step
makes your house look a little bit more
aesthetic and in depth. It's a very simple
and easy technique. Similarly, we are
going to repeat it on the roof that we have. For the light house as well, you can add a nice
solid black line just below the roof
that we painted. I wanted to make the roof color a little bit more lighter. What you can do is you
can add a little bit of white color in the
solid red color that we already have
in the color palette. You can reapply
the entire coat on the roofs that we have
painted initially. This is the best part
about poster and wash colors that you can
reapply the entire coat. It is absolutely fine. By doing this, the solid red
color becomes a little bit more lighter and becomes in
contrast with the wall color. Now let us paint the
lighthouse area. For that, I have taken
some lemon yellow in the color palette and make a good composition of
color and water together. Apply just below the
lighthouse roof. And no need to hurry at all. Just cover the entire surface
using your round brush of size three to paint
in smaller areas. You can use your round
brush of size zero. No need to hurry at all. Try to cover the entire area in a very slow and steady manner since it's a very small
portion to paint. Whenever you're painting
in a very smaller portion, always make sure that your hand is very much loose and free. No need to make it stiff. Now we are done painting
the light area as well. Now let us paint the beautiful structure of the
entire lighthouse as well. For that, we are going to take some solid white color
in the color palette. We are not going to use the
exact vibrant white color. We're going to make it
a little bit dull by adding a little bit
of black color in it. Let me repeat again a
little bit of black color. If you'll add a lot
of black color, it will become completely gray. Just add a little
bit of black color so that your solid
white color becomes a little bit dull and the lighthouse will look a
little bit more authentic. I'm starting from
the topmost portion. Always observe the movement
of my round brush. It's a simple vertical movement. You can start by applying it on the outline first and then fill in solid white
color as well. It is absolutely fine. Just be very much
careful near the outline where the house is getting
attached with the lighthouse. I'm just using the
tip of my round brush carefully to paint
near the bottom house. Now, once you have
applied the outline, you can fill in solid black
color in the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner. Also, just make sure
that you do not have axis amount of
water in your brush, because if you'll have a
lot of water in your brush, it will blend with
the background color, which is cobalt blue and
you won't be able to get a nice whitish texture on
the entire lighthouse. We have completely covered the entire lighthouse having
a nice dull white texture. There might be a little bit of cobalt blue visible
in the background, but it is absolutely fine. It creates a nice
natural texture for the entire building element. Now we have some base area below the house that
we have painted there. Also, you can apply
this solid white color. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint it in a very
slow and steady manner and use the tip of your round brush to
paint in smaller areas. Now you can add a little bit
of lighter shade of gray. You can observe it
in my color palette. I'm already having some
black color to make a and less saturated
white color. You can apply it on the
left hand side because we are going to paint the sun
on the right hand side. The light reflection is going to be on the
right hand side. You can apply this
dull whitish color on the left hand portion
of the entire lighthouse. In case you find that
your coat is a little bit lighter and much
more in transparency, what you can do is you
can let it dry for a while and then you can
reapply the white color on it. This will help you to get a nice opaque, solid white color. Now comes the most amazing
part that I love to do, which is adding details
using solid black color. I'll be using my round
brush of size zero and take some good amount of solid black color in your
color palette. Make a good composition of
color and water together. Now we are going to create some beautiful outline for
the entire lighthouse. Start from the topmost portion, creating some nice fence, or we can call it as railings, that are around the
entire lighthouse. Just add these vertical lines in a very slow and
steady manner. Use the tip of your round brush and apply very less pressure. You'll get this beautiful
vertical lines. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and paint
these beautiful lines. Now I'm going to add
few horizontal lines on the main structure of the entire lighthouse to
create some nice aesthetics. Again, I'll be repeating
the same steps, applying very less pressure, and using the tip
of my round brush. They're going to also paint two beautiful windows in
the entire structure. You just have to create a
beautiful rectangular shape on the left hand
portion in case you want to play with the shape
and size of the window. It is absolutely fine. You can create your
own composition. No need to hurry at all. While you're painting in
a very smaller portion, always make sure that you use the tip of your round brush
and apply very less pressure. Now, in order to make
the entire lighthouse look a little bit more
aesthetic and elegant, we're going to create
some nice texture on the entire
building structure. It's a very simple
and easy technique. Just take some solid
black color dab, your brush onto the
tissue paper so that all the excess amount
of water will be removed. And create this beautiful
texture by just roughly and randomly applying your
brush onto the entire surface. Just make sure that the texture that you're creating is more saturated towards the house on the bottom portion
and the left hand side, because that is the portion
where the natural light is going to be falling on
a very less amount. This is not at all
difficult at all. You just have to create a very
random and rough texture. No need to worry
about painting it in the exact same way I
have painted right now. Now I'll be painting two windows in the house that is on the
bottom portion as well. One is a bigger
rectangular shape, another one is a
little bit thin. As I told you, you can
definitely play with the shape and size of
the windows as well. Now there is this
white structure just on the bottom portion
of the entire house. You can create two
little windows which are basically
ventilation windows. You just have to apply
very less pressure. Use the tip of your
round brush to paint these little two
rectangular structures. It basically creates
some nice aesthetics to the entire lighthouse. The more details you'll add, the better the entire
painting will look. Now to make the light area a
little bit more aesthetic, I'll be just making the thin lines a little
bit thicker so you can just add one more line and fill in solid
black color inside. Now you can observe that we are almost done painting
the entire lighthouse. You will be definitely
very happy while you are adding these
beautiful details to the entire lighthouse to make the solid black window look
a little bit more aesthetic, you can take some
solid white color in your round brush and add these horizontal
and vertical lines in the solid black window. You'll find that
the windows will get very much
enhanced and there is a nice contrast with the brown color for the walls and the black
color in the window. No need to hurry at all. Try to do this particular step in a very slow and
steady manner. Keep your hand very
much loose and free and apply very
less pressure. We are done adding all the details and
painting the lighthouse. I hope that you enjoyed
this particular step. Now let us move
towards the next part.
11. Painting the Landscape: Hey buddy. Now let us
paint the landscape, which is the last element
of the entire painting. We are done painting a
beautiful lighthouse and adding all the details. We have the outline of the landscape area
just below that. I know it is not
that much visible, but I hope that you'll
figure it out Also, the pencil line is
just for reference. No need to worry at all in case your color goes a little
bit out of the line. It is completely fine. I've taken some solid black
color in the color palette. Make a good composition of
water and color together. Make sure that you do not
have excess amount of water because the saturation of solid black color
will decrease. Then I'm starting with
the outline initially. Use the tip of your rush
to paint the outline. Initially, whenever you want to paint a thin line or you want to create an outline
using your brush, always try to use the tip
of your rush and apply very less pressure
on it so that you'll get thinner lines
whenever you're painting. Now you can observe
that we are done painting the outline of
the entire landscape area. Now we are going to fill in solid black color in
the entire portion. You can observe that I'm
moving my round brush in this same vertical direction in case you feel that your color is getting finished
from the brush, you can definitely
take some more solid black color in your brush. You can observe that we are almost done covering
the entire area. Just make sure that you do not
leave any space in between because that will not look nice when the entire
color dries up. Also, in case you're
not that much confident enough to
paint the landscape area directly towards
your final painting and you do not want to spoil
your beautiful background, What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of making
mistakes will be very less. Now we are done painting the landscape area just
below the lighthouse. There is a little bit
of landscape area on the bottom right corner. You can create the
outline initially, and then in the
remaining portion, you can fill in solid
black color completely. Also, it is not at all
compulsory to paint it in the exact same way I
have painted right now. You can create your
own composition of the landscape area as well. No need to worry
about getting it in the exact same way I
have painted right now. There might be a little
bit of variation. In fact, you can create
your own composition and experiment with the
landscape area now to make the reflection of
the landscape area onto the water body so that it looks a little
bit more realistic, You just have to take some solid black color in
your round brush and start applying these horizontal
strokes just on the bottom portion of the
entire landscape area. You can randomly apply these strokes and
no need to hurry at all as you move towards
the bottom area. You can simply
decrease the size of the horizontal strokes
that you're making. Now once we are done adding these beautiful
horizontal strokes onto the landscape area, we're going to create some
nice waves in the water body, which is going to be
in the background, it is going to be a
little bit lighter. I have made a nice gray
color in the color palette. If you observe mixing some black and white
color together. Now you can add these
little horizontal lines just below the mountain body, or the snowy hills that
we painted initially, so that it looks a
little bit in depth. The water body
will look a little bit more aesthetic and elegant. We are done with
the landscape area. Now we are going to add some nice texture to
the entire surface. The base color is solid black. Let it dry for a while. And now we are going to create a nice darker shade of gray. Mix a solid white color and black together in
a very nice way. Make a good composition
of both the colors together and start
applying it in this rough and random way on the solid black surface
that we created Initially, Whenever you observe
a coastal area where there is a little bit of
landscape near a water body, there is definitely going to be some greenery around
some nice texture, some sandy effect to create
that beautiful texture. You can use these basic painting techniques
to create them. You can already observe
in my color palette, I'm having a nice
darker shade of gray. You just have to dab your
brush using the tip of your own brush and create
this nice texture. No need to worry about
creating the texture in the exact same way
I'm creating right now. You can randomly
apply by creating this beautiful, natural
organic texture. The topmost texture is going to be definitely green because
we want to create some. Elegance to the entire
landscape area. But before that, this
is a base layer, which also creates some
nice shadow effect just below the house
that we have painted, attached to the lighthouse. There also, you can create
this nice gray texture. The technique of creating this texture is not
at all difficult. In case you find that there is a little bit of
water in your brush, just simply dab it onto the tissue paper so that axis amount of water
will be removed and you'll be able to
get this nice rough texture in case you're not that much confident
enough to create the texture directly towards
your final painting. You do not want to spoil your
beautiful base black color. What you can do is you
can practice it on a rough scrape of
paper initially, and then you can come
towards your final painting. This will help you a lot to develop confidence
while painting, and the chances of
making mistakes will be very less Similarly, I added the solid
gray texture in the landscape that is painted on the bottom right
corner as well. I'm just extending the landscape
area a little bit using solid black color so that we can add a nice fence element. Now, once we are done adding
this beautiful gray texture, I'll be taking some green
color in the color palette, add a little bit of black color to get a nice
darker green color. Now we are going to repeat
the same steps by applying this random texture just above the solid gray
color that we applied. The steps and method
is absolutely same. You just have to
randomly dab your brush, but try to apply this
particular dark green color on the topmost portion of the solid gray color that
we applied initially, you can observe
that we have added a nice dark green texture
with grey texture as well. Now to create some nice contrast with the solid black
color a little bit more, what we're going to
do is that we're going to make the green
color a little bit more lighter so that there can be a nice grassy effect
which is visible as well. But before that, you can add
this nice green texture onto the landscape area
which is being painted on the bottom
right corner as well. This step is going to be definitely very much
satisfying and you'll definitely enjoy creating a nice random rough
texture to create a nice grassy texture to make the entire landscape look a little bit
more aesthetic. I have added a little
bit of lemon yellow to create a nice composition
in the landscape area. Now we are going to apply this particular color
in the topmost portion, only to create a
beautiful texture. The natural light basically falls onto the topmost portion, and that's why we are applying this particular color
on the topmost portion. And it also creates
a beautiful contrast with the solid black color
that we applied initially. While you're creating
this particular texture, just make sure that you do not have axis amount of water in your brush because
then you won't be able to get this
nice rough texture. In case you find that there is axis amount of water
in your brush, just simply dab it onto the tissue paper so that
axis amount of water will be removed and you'll
be able to get a nice lemon yellow
and green combination. Now you can carefully
observe how beautiful the entire
landscape area is looking. Rather than applying a solid black color to the
entire portion, we can create this nice depth and detail to the
entire landscape area. You can simply repeat
the same steps by adding this particular color on the topmost layer of the
entire landscape area. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and paint. Also, in case you
want to experiment, adding this beautiful texture to the entire landscape area, you can definitely do that. You're free to experiment. Now let us add a
beautiful fence element onto the landscape area. Use your round
brush of size zero. Take some good amount of
solid black color in it. Now using the tip of
your round brush, create a simple horizontal
line attached to the landscape area and then connect it with these
small vertical lines. No need to hurry at all. Try to paint in a very slow and steady manner since you're painting in
a very smaller portion. Creating these thin lines, apply very less
pressure onto the brush and just make your hand
very much loose and free. You can observe how beautiful the entire fence element looks and it enhances
the entire painting. The more details you'll
add to the painting, the better the
painting will look. Now we are going to
add few tiny trees onto the topmost surface of
the entire landscape area. It's a very simple
and easy technique. You just have to take some
solid black color and apply these little vertical patches
if you observe carefully. These are basically
small oval shapes, very much pointed towards
the topmost area. You can play with
the composition by combining two to
three trees together. You can also play with
the size of the trees. It will look really aesthetic. There can be few bigger trees, and there can be some
smaller trees as well. You can observe how
beautifully the trees are creating a noise contrast with the background
color as well. In case you find that your color is getting
finished from the brush, you can definitely
take some more color from the color palette. Similarly, we are adding
these smaller trees onto the landscape area that we have painted on the bottom
right corner as well. The painting technique
is absolutely same. Just create these oval
shaped small black patches. You can definitely
experiment and play with the composition
of the trees, It is completely fine. Now comes the last element
of the entire painting, which is painting a beautiful
sun in the sky area. It's a very simple
and easy technique. Take some solid white color
in the color palette. Add a little bit of water
to loosen the color up. And paint a circular
shape in the sky area. Use the tip of your round brush to paint a circular shape. You can definitely
decide the position of the sun according to your
convenience as well. We are done with the
entire painting. Let me take you a little
bit closer so that you can observe all the
details carefully. The best part about the
entire painting that I liked is that
using minimal color, palette and elements together we formed a beautiful scenery. I hope that you enjoyed creating this
particular painting. Now let us move
towards the next part.
12. Class Conclusion: When you take out some time for painting from a very busy
and hectic schedule, it brings a lot of peace
and self satisfaction. Whether I'm painting on a square coaster or
a watercolor paper, it will definitely
bring a lot of relaxation because I always enjoy the process of painting. While I was creating
this particular class, I made any number of mistakes. And that is something
that I always tell my students not to be
afraid of making mistakes. Also, one thing that I always suggest my students
is to maintain an art journal on which
you can practice on a regular basis and keep
a record of your artwork. It would be really great if you add your projects to
the project gallery. I would be really excited to see all of your class projects. Also, it would be
really great if you leave a review for
the entire class as it encourages me a lot and my class can reach many
more students like you. At the end, I would
like to tell you that keep learning,
keep practicing. Thank you so much for
joining and happy painting.
