Learn Acrylic Painting: Design and Illustrate a Landscape Super easy

1. Welcome : Hi, my name is George, and in today's course you will learn how to make this wonderful acrylic landscape. If you have never painted before. This will be an amazing course for you, using just a few simple colors as well as a few brushes. You will learn how to make this wonderful landscape. You will get step-by-step encouragement, as well as a few great tricks that you can bring into your other paintings. If it's your first time painting. Don't worry, this course is perfect for beginners and intermediate as well. In this course you will learn about color mixing, how to keep colors very clean, as well as the underpainting and much more what all of that being said, welcome to the course. 2. Materials: Before this painting, you will need to beautiful brushes. These are flat brushes. You will need a small flat brush and a big flat brush, as you can see, quite flat and beautiful. Alongside that, you will need a mixing plate and a cup of water. And of course, since this is a painting, you will need paints, in this case, Amsterdam acrylic paints. This is yellow medium and of course white. Still Amsterdam acrylic. Some a brilliant blue. Or you can use outer blue. These are just the primary colors. This is a car mean red and a brown, a burnt umber. And of course you will need the canvas. This is an 18 by 24 centimeter Canvas. Of course, you can use a different size canvas, a bigger one or a smaller one depending on what you have. And there you go. Let's start the course. 3. Orange wash: Once you have everything together, your Canvas, you're mixing plate as well as your water and your big flat brush. Let's wet the black brush and then put some beautiful brown on the mixing plate, as well as some yellow. Oh, and of course, some red. Three beautiful colors. And cleaning up the surface of the canvas just a tiny bit. The goal of this step is to cover the canvas with a brown, orange color. Brown, orange wash. Just pick up the brush, mixed together some red and some yellow, and then start to lay down this beautiful orangey brown color. Add plenty of water just so it spreads around quite thinly. Very beautiful. And just go over trying to cover all of the canvas, as well as the sides. Taking a little bit more brown, adding it straight to the Canvas since it already has color and water as well. Going on to the left side and now the bottom covering the corner. Just like that, taking some more red. This so we play around with some color. You can do it as fast or as slow as you want. But in this case, the faster is a little bit better. Going in and covering all the sides of the canvas. Knowing for the right corner at the bottom, trying not to make big mass on the table. And now going with motions from top to bottom just to make the color a tiny bit more even spread. Okay, In case you see some brush hairs, you can take the brush and take them out just by pushing the brush into the hair and then picking it up. Okay, going for some more smoothing of the color. It's very important to let this wash completely dry. Don't forget to clean up the table. Just as it dries. It can also take a paper towel and take out a little bit of the water, just a little bit of the paint just so it is a little bit more dry and it dries faster. Okay. Trying to take the residual paper out of the canvas. Happy accidents. Okay. Taking some more red and some more yellow just to put a little bit more of an interesting wash. In some areas. It gives us a reason to spread the paint around. Once again, trying to see where the white is still showing through. Some more brown at the bottom. And there you go with the first step, super easy to do. 4. Tree foliage: Once everything has dried completely to the touch, you can grab some beautiful blue and add it to the mixing plate. Not a lot, just a tiny bit, as well as some white. Perfect. Once you have all the colors you need on the mixing plate, you can take the big flat brush and start taking some yellow and some blue in order to make a beautiful green. Taking some red will make sure that the green is not very strong, gonna be a little bit muted. So just taking a little bit of red will ensure that starting from the top, just with some swiveling motions of the brush, with the corner of the brush, trying to make a beautiful tree shape just at the top. Super simple to do. And then going in on the left side of the first shape and making another shape. Tried to think of this as just a big shape and then it has some leftovers on the edge. The shape is defined by its edge, so it's very important to just have interesting edges. So break them down, try to make them as interesting as you can. So the first shape continues until it goes out of the canvas. Now going in for some shapes, trying to make the same color, adding a little bit of variation just here and there, and making a beautiful shape onto the right side. Okay? As you can see, this shape comes in as a triangle, almost out of the corner of the canvas. Another smaller shape alternating between big shapes, small shapes, just like that. Okay, trying to add some more complexity to the edges. You can see they're clearly defined. They are kind of touching somewhere. Not everywhere. Okay. Making some more of that beautiful color. Approximately making it a little bit darker this time in order to make the lower side of the trees just like that, adding a little bit more blue and red in order to make it darker. Starting to make a beautiful line just below the half of the canvas, as you can see. Acquired a bit lower down. Okay, starting up to half and then going down trying to make, keep those interesting shapes. This time it's going to be a block of threes just in the background. So try to think of them just as shapes. And going down. This time picking up a little bit more blue and red in order to make it quite dark. As you go down, they become even darker. Close it down the shape on the right side and going out of the canvas. Okay, you can start to see how little space is leftover at the bottom. Taking some more white, blue, and yellow in order to create some interesting and beautiful green. In order to put on top of the distant trees. Making it a little bit more gray. And mixing it in straight on the Canvas with the colors that have been laid on just now. This beautiful grayish color. We'll differentiate the background trees from the foreground trees, adding a little bit more blue and white in order to create that reflection of the sky onto the trees in the distance. The further away the trees are, the more bluish they become. Okay. Building that distance with color. Okay, making a very, very intense green, just straight up, blue and yellow. And then going in and making it a little bit lighter with some white, some more yellow in order to create that vibrant green. And maybe a tiny bit of red to make it just a bit more muted. Okay, and on the right side of the shapes starting to put a little bit of this beautiful highlight to accept the trees at the bottom, trying to touch just the right side as well as if it's a bigger shape, you can break it down into little shapes. And imagine there is another left side in the middle of the shape. Okay? And for the last one. Perfect. You can also go outside a little bit of the shape if you want. Taking some more yellow and white in order to create an even lighter color, adding a little bit of red, just a tiny amount of red to mute it down. And going in the middle of the shape just on the right side. And blending in, adding another smaller shape. Just to add a little bit of variation. And going for all the shapes with this particular color, except the trees at the bottom, you can start to see the boldness of the color brings those trees closer. Trying to add some more interesting shapes in the middle by just dabbing with the corner. Just letting that mixing as well as some edges as you can see, how beautiful tried to add a little bit of this color into this than trees as well, just to blend them in with the rest of them. And dab your finger on top. Okay, let's go into the next step. 5. Blue sky: The after everything has dried, you can put on the mixing, played some blue, some white. Clean up your big brush, your big flat brush. Okay. Start taking some blue. Remember, the canvas is completely dry, thick, some yellow as well. Mixing it in with the blue to make a little bit more of a, some really in blue and mixing it in with the white, making a very, very light blue. Depending on the kind of blue you have. You can add more white to make it this light, starting from the top in between the big shapes and just starting to add some blue. You don't have to cover all and everything. You can go over the shape to create more interesting outlines as well. And you might be asking to yourself, why are we covering all the orange? Well, what was the purpose of the orange is just to work on a surface that is different than white. In order to have exact and very interesting accuracy of color. White is a very strong surface to work on. So it's very good to have a different color, in this case, an orange, brownish wash. Okay. Going and creating some more blue this time, a little bit lighter and going over the areas already painted in the middle. And as you can see, the complexity of the shapes has also been a little bit edited, little bit defined more by just going with the corner and with the blue over DEM a little bit. Don't be very careful about the orange. It doesn't need to go. It's, it just builds even more complex Color Dynamics. My having it they're trying to cover more of the area. Going lower. Dust over there can start to see how beautiful the contrast is between the green, the blue, and the orange. Trying to mix up the color a little bit more and going lower, this time, lighter with the color. And making that middle shape a little bit more complex, as well as going over some areas in the middle where they need more paste, more acrylic paint. Just like that, as you can see, breaking down the shape a little bit more. Just at the top, at the corner. This over there. And going down at the bottom, mixing some more blue and some darker blue. And going in between the shapes, breaking down those shapes in the distance as well. A little bit more. Going over and continuing on to the right side with the same motions. In areas where you can move freely with the brush, you can go faster. And where you need a little bit more detail. You can also brush down the trees in the distance a little bit just so they are more subdued. They don't have such sharp edges since things that are far away tend to have softer edges, can start to see that happening at the bottom, going down and creating some more interesting shapes. Taking some more white and mixing it in a very, very light blue. As you can see, it's very, very white and layering it down very thick. Remember the blue is still wet so you can just mix it in with the blue on the canvas. Okay. Trying to mix it in as good as possible until it feels like it's not another layer and under different layer laid on top, but it's one with the first one. Okay? This will give nicer textures and interesting shapes in the sky. It will give some sort of impression of clouds. Okay? Moving further and lower. Going over, trying to get a little bit more blue onto the brush. And mixing in, looking exactly where the two layers do not fit properly. And then taking some more white and going on top with another layer of white of paste. And then you can go higher a little bit and make some interesting clouds, let's say, or just bits of color. Wonderful. Making the edges a little bit more complex. As well as taking some y to add some blue to make the top left corner a little bit more light mixing in with that lighter blue on top of the right-hand side as well. Now, okay, there you go with the sky as well. Super easy to do. 6. Distant trees: Before this next step, you will need to clean up the brush of any excess paint. The last layer doesn't need to be completely dry. You can already work on it. You don't need to clean up the brush perfectly. Just pick up some yellow as well as some blue. And making a beautiful bluish green. To work on the trees in the distance. Creating a beautiful sort of turquoise, green, but very light and beautiful. It has a little bit of red as well in it, so it's not overpowering and it doesn't have too much chroma. Mixing it very well with the brush and checking to see if it's the right color. It seems a little bit too green. However, no problem. A little bit more blue can be added. Just now. You can start to see the actual color. But it doesn't matter the variation of color, the interplay of the two colors. The one Would a little bit more green and one would have a tiny bit of blue is perfect. You can also take the small brush in order to make and spread the paint around. Blend in the colors with the sky. You can make more interesting shapes around the edges as well as the further you go down. Just spreading, taking a little bit of water just so it has little bit of transparency with the color underneath. What the deeper, richer greens. Okay. Taking some brown and some blue, mixing it with some yellow to make a darker green. Taking some more blue and green and yellow. Perfect. And with the small brush, you can already add a little bit more brown and start to lay in some of this rich, growing very fast and loose. Think of them as not only the shadow of the trees in the distance, but also as shapes. So they need to have quite interesting, quite an interesting layout as well as you can see, blending with some water. After the brush has been gleaned. The two layers of green, the one with the blue and the one with the brown. Ok, and there you go with the simple step as well. 7. Foliage highlight and tree trunks: Oh, hey, for this layer you will need a bit more clean yellow, as well as the small brush taking some yellow and mixing it, spreading it a little bit on the Plate, taking a little bit of red as well and some blue to make a very yellowy green. It's a very, very yellowy green. And once you add the white, it will become much, much more light. This will be the highlight of the top threes. And as you can see, there is a lot of texture being applied over here and a lot of based. And it's quite light and colorful, very joyful, yellowish green. Just spreading it around. Think of the right top side of the trees, just having this wonderful highlight and apply it over there. You can also go a little bit outside of the shape over the blue just to create interesting shapes. Very nice. Taking some more white just over here, mixing it with the yellow and making an even lighter yellow. It still has some of the other colors as well. Mixing it all together just so it becomes very nice and colorful. Adding a little bit more texture to the right side this time with the corner of the brush. And as you can see, there is a little bit of a difference in between the first and the layer that is being applied just now. Being a little bit more deliberate with the texture. So it's further apart. It has edges inside the shape as well. Dabbing some more paint Over the right-hand side of the shapes. Okay. Cleaning up the brush. And before everything dries, you can take a little bit of this yellow and mix it in with some red, making a beautiful orange color. And of course some wide to just boil it down as well as just lighten it up starting from the middle. Just like this making pillar, this will be the first three. It needs a little bit more red. As you can see, it's very, very close to the color of the initial wash. Don't worry if it's too transparent. Under layers will be applied. Just so it's easier. You can start also from the top at the same time and connect the two lines. Remember, this is a tree, so it needs to be a little bit more organic. Don't make it perfectly straight. It needs to have a little bit of a curvature and some areas where it's bumpy and very organic, okay. As you can see, on the top side and in the middle, trying to make it just a tiny bit more thick at the bottom and thinner at the top. Okay. Rubbing a little bit more color. And this time going on the right side and going with the curvature against the first one. So it's the opposite way. They're like spreading a little bit apart as they go up. Okay. Taking some more of that paint, little bit of red just to give it that pop. And putting it in, this time a little bit thinner. This three, Is it a bit smaller? Little bit thinner. Edit also has been a bit of a rough edge to it as well. Don't forget to go in and load that brush up. And going further with some of the same color on the left side. This time, the curve goes into the left and making it thinner, still Over the honor. Foliage. Taking some brown, some blue, and some red, making a very dark, beautiful color. And you can lay in some of the shadows. This will ensure that you remember where the light comes from, as well as some small dots over the bark of the tree. Some very, very small ones. Just like beautiful marks. Okay. The shadow onto the lower left side and leaning against the ground. How to almost 90 degree angle. As it goes further, it becomes less and less visible. Taking some straight brown and adding it to this sign, adding some small dots to the second tree, the one on the right, you can just spread them apart. And going in to create the shadow of the three on the left. Making some more dots here and there. Okay. Perfect. Some more marks on the Big Three. Trying to see where some more shapes like this would fit. Ok? And there you go with this step as well. Super simple. 8. Color of the bark: With the small flat brush, taking some yellow and mixing it with a tiny bit of red to make more orangey yellow, but it's still quite yellow and going in straight for the bark of the tree. In the middle, at the bottom, don't forget to leave those beautiful brown marks as well as the shadow untouched. Okay. Taking a little bit more red and working your way up. Just a tiny bit. Don't go too far. And going in for the left-hand side, three, this time, if you made the shadow a little bit too thick, you can make it smaller, as well as change the sides of the trees, make them a little bit bumpy or if they need to in case there are two straight going in for the right-hand side tree with some more red in the middle just now and a tiny bit more red. And going up, cleaning up the brush almost completely and mixing another color. This time. It's a red with some yellow, so it's orange, but much more towards the red side. Okay, as you can see, just adding yellow until it feels just about right. And starting to add just at the end of the yellow part, this beautiful red orange. Continuing on further up. Once the orange is created and a brush has been cleaned, you can start to beautifully gorgeous sleep. Blend those two colors together. As you can see, they create such a more unified effect. Perfect. Okay, Don't forget to leave the brown marks untouched and blend it in with some red and some blue. You can create some purple. This purple is quite red and also quite dark. It would need a little bit of white to become the purple that is needed for this area of the trees. Very, very light. You can start to see how beautiful it looks right next to the orange and the blue of the sky. Perfect. Cleaning up the brush just so it is not completely full of color. Okay. Grabbing some more white and then going over the red. Just a tiny bit at the orangey red and up the three just further, barely touching the canvas and spreading that paint around. Because start to see how beautiful it lays down. And of course the trees become less and less transparent. They have their own mass of color now, would only choose just two layers. Going in for the left-hand side, three very, very beautiful trees, taking some more yellow and adding it to the yellow part of the tree. Just in order to create a beautiful fun color. Cleaning up the brush just so you can spread around that yellow to make it whole and to make it part of the tree. You can also move into the reds with this beautiful yellow to create some textures. Okay? Perfect. Taking some more of that red to touch up the top of the left, three. Okay. And there you go with another's that this was super easy to do. 9. Highlights on trees: With the small brush, you can now take some blue, mixing it in with a tiny bit of red and some brown, just a touch of brown to make it darker blue. Starting from the top of the trees, you can also add a tiny bit of white and case the blue is too dark. Starting at the top of the trees. Now going down into the purplish red, the higher it gets, the bluer. Things tend to be because of the color of the sky. Okay? Taking some white and mixing it in with the blue, adding a tiny bit more blue. Just straight from the pile of blue and going in on the color, mixing it with the blue that is on the canvas already on the tree, can start to see how it blends together. If you squint your eyes, the blue becomes almost part of the sky, but not quite. It's a little bit darker and it has a little bit more red, but it blends in quite nicely and it becomes part of the sky of the painting. Okay, and making a lighter blue still closer to the color of the sky just to blend in at the top of the trees. Once that is done, you can take it even further with the middle three, as well as on the right. And moving down a little bit lower. See how close they can become. Almost blending together. It still has a little bit of an edge to it. Okay? Taking some of that blue and with the side of the flat brush, you can start to make a beautiful branch on the right side. And another one just going a little bit higher in case they don't appear on the Canvas because the blue is too close to the sky. You can also add some red to make a beautiful purplish color as small branch onto the left side of the metal tree. Going towards the foliage, going towards the leaves. Would a little bit of brown as well. You can accentuate that wonderful left sides branch. Just a few of them will look absolutely gorgeous. Going further on the left and creating a new branch just on the right and one on the left, tried to keep them a little bit separate so they are not exactly at the same height. They go just one higher than the other. Accentuating that branch a little bit more can start to see how beautiful those threes have now become. Would a few branches. Okay, cleaning up the brush. Very, very good. Once that is done, you can start to take some white. It still has some blue. Taking a little bit more of that clean, beautiful blue. And starting on the right-hand side of the three in the middle. To add just a beautiful highlight. This is a very, very white blue, even wider than the sky at the bottom. Perfect. And sometimes this highlight hits just the tiniest amount of the brown spots, just a few, one or two. Okay. And it still has a lot of paste in the brush, so it's quite base. Color. Highlights need to be a little bit more thickly applied, then the shadow parts, the objects, okay? As you can see, a little bit of a mistake. It doesn't matter once you put it a little bit more thickly, it becomes way more visible. And going further up the three, avoiding the side where the branch is just so it mimics this beautiful shadow. You can also blend in a little bit into the three. Don't go too far, tried to keep it. You can also. And in just the tiniest amount as you go up. Perfect. Okay. And grabbing some more paint just so you can lay down onto the left-hand side 3. This being thinner. Three, it has a thinner light side. Okay? Because start to see a beautiful those trees. I've started to look going further, taking some more paint and as you go up, you can make that shattered that light part a little bit. Take her going for some more textures in the middle of the trees, as well as climbing higher up to add this beautiful light color. Taking some more color to add it to the middle 3 to make that light part even more visible. Look at how lovely those colors, those oranges in yellow have become perfect. And there you go with another step. 10. Grass and shadows: With this small flat brush, you can take some white, mix it in with some yellow, creating a very, very light yellow mixing in quite a bit in order to create some beautiful textures for the grass. Starting in the middle of the beautiful canvas, you can start to create a patch of grass just going on to the side of the 3 to thinking some more yellow in order to create a yellowish golden grass. And there you go, going into the left side and going over the green of the distance, three's going a little bit faster to the side. And then in the middle, you can start to grab a little bit more yellow and think more of the textures just by going down and creating more textures. Like the grass is going up from the grounds. Knowing a little bit over the shadow, just a tiny bit to create some texture. And going in for the left-hand side with tiny bit more yellow. Perfect. Going for the corner, moving quite fast and slow. When it it's needed onto the shadow. You can cover the corner on the right side as well. Cleaning up the brush. Just a tiny amount would have paper, towel. Grabbing this time some blue, some red in order to make a very dark purplish color. And starting to paint with this dark purplish color onto the right-hand side of the trees, as well as a little bit into the shadows on the grass. Perfect. Going in and creating some more of this purple in between those layers. Just creating a little bit of a batch of light behind the distant trees. And don't worry if you mix is a little bit with the yellow. Okay. Spreading it around quite a bit and calling in onto the grass just a tiny bit to create some more contrast. Taking some brown and adding it to this beautiful purple and some blue to create quite a dark almost black, green, purple. And going in with that beautiful black onto the shadow side as well as the small marks making another one in the middle of the middle three and adding a few more if they are needed, as well as going over the small branch at the top of the right-hand side and the left-hand side tree. Just to accentuate some darker areas. Okay. Going over the shadow in between the blades of grass, as well as accentuating the shadow on the left-hand side. Three, a little bit more. Cleaning up the brush, grabbing some red. And with that beautiful red, accentuating once again, the shadows making them quite who read. Since the highlight is quite cool. Color, so it's quite blue, quite cool. You can add some reds to the shadows to make the contrast even better. Grabbing some of that yellow to go over the purplish, bluish colors in between the trees. And on the right side as well, a tiny amount mixing in some of this beautiful orange to go it over the purple just so it breaks down. So it's not a perfect LEA applied colored. This will make it seem like it blends in a little bit more with the green. Okay. Grabbing some of that yellow with some of that blue to make a beautiful green color. And with the tiniest amount of orange, we can start to lay in a little bit over that orange that has been spilled by accident on top of the trees. And going in and adding the scholar somewhere on the trees, on the right side as well, just so it fits a little bit more and it brings a little bit more variation to the landscape. Focusing a tiny bit on the shape of the yellow and the distance, adding more color variation and making it seem like it's a tiny bit more flat. So it goes further away towards the horizon. Okay. Taking some more blue and some more white and putting it over some of the dark blue in the distance to create some trees, some highlights on the threes. Just a few of them to break down those very intense dark colors. That purplish blue will dry quite black. So don't worry about it. It's going to be quite dark, especially in the areas where it has some orange. And there you go. Another beautiful step. 11. Shiny bark: With the small flat brush, just creating a beautiful yellow test over here on the mixing plate with a tiny bit of red. This will be the second beautiful layer of yellow on the trees just to make them a lot more shiny and beautiful. Okay, mixing in a little bit of white and more yellow. It's quite an orangey looking yellow. You can start to see it will shine quite a bit on the three, once you apply it, making the trees shine a little bit brighter. Taking some red, straight up, read quite a bit. Cleaning up the brush of the yellow and taking some of that red and spreading it up. Just going over and making those colors a little bit more intense. Going in for the left-hand side tree as well and doing the same. Okay. Taking some of that color and spreading it around, taking some more of that orange in order to create a beautiful blend in between. Some more orange. This time would a tiny bit more yellow to blend in. A little bit more of the yellow that has been lost. Going over and blending the two colors together, look at how shiny and beautiful they look. So vibrance, super easy to make. 12. Last details Thank you: And this is the last step. Can you believe it? Taking some yellow and some white to create a beautiful and the light yellow. But the small flat brush and going over the grass on a vertical line to create some more textures and some more highlights in the grass. Just near the trees, covering a little bit more at the bottom, and going into the shadows to create those beautiful textures. Grabbing a tiny bit more white and some more yellow to create more color. And of course, since all the foliage is in the background, we can highlight the foreground foliage just a tiny bit by adding another layer over the trees as you can see and going up. So it seems like they are not just behind the tree, but they go also over them. Look at how beautiful that play goes on the left-hand side. Remember the highlights are on the right top side of the shapes, taking some more yellow to create just the tiniest amount of color variation. And you can also go a little bit further and go outside of the shapes. Just a little bit. Don't forget to touch up the last areas on the left side. Okay, taking a step back and looking at the painting, taking some more of this light yellow and touching up the grass. Just a little bit perfect going in, in horizontal lines this time and marks and of course, in the distance. You can also add a tiny amount of this. Yellow as well as chest on the right small line can go very far, breaking down that shadow just a tiny amount. Making some marks. And there you go.
