1. Intro: Hello. I am Patricia. I'm administrator. And today I want to talk with you about away art on bro create. This class is made for very beginners. So we're going to see together the very basic some procreate. And then we will be ready to create our first cute character. The goal for this class is to get confident with the software procreate and learn together the creative process step by step on digital. The class is off course for everyone but is made for very beginners. So no skills are required. I really hope you enjoy this glass. And if you're ready, I'm ready to go.
2. The *Very* Basics on ProCreate: So I've told you that in this class we're going to see how to create digital contents on procreate. So all we need is an I bought an apple pencil and of course, the software procreate. Now we're going to see together the very basic, some procreate. So if you are already confident with the software, you can skip this video. Procreate is full of tools and functions. So today we're going to see only the ones we need for this class. Let's start from the very beginning. So open, procreate and create, and you canvas that are different sizes, depending on what we need to do. But today I recommend to use their screen size because this way we all should have kind of the same size on procreate. We can work on many different layers, and their number depends on the size off the campus. For example, with this size, we have 60 lay years available, but we need just a few, so they're more than enough how to work with layers by swiping layers to the left. We can block, complicate or delete their layer, and the same happens in the gallery, so always wipe into the left. We can share, duplicate or delete the campus by swiping right. You can select lay years in case you want to move them together or if you want to group them this way. If we need to merge layers, we just have to grab the first layer on the last layer and pinch them together. If we want to move a layer up and down, we just have to hold it with one finger and move it. Every layer can be colored or recall erred. Thanks to the Alfa lock function, for example, you just have to touch the layer and activate the alpha lock. You can color it the way you like the most. For example, we may just do something like this, or we may just feel it by clicking on field layer. You can activate the Alfa lock quicker by swiping the layer to the right. With two fingers in this class and the next ones, we will use a symmetry a lot, and to activate it, we just have to go to actions here and then to campus. I'm already here, activate the drawing guide and then added drawing guide. We have the to degrade the isometric, the perspective, but we are interested in the symmetry. We need the vertical but is a reactive by the fold. Now make sure the symmetry is activated and you can see when it is because there's written assisted on the layer. But if we want to activate it in more layers, we just have to click on the layer here and then select the drawing assist about the screen gesture. We have the classic zoom like we do on our phones. Then we have the undo and redo action. For example, I drove this and I want to dilate it. So I just stopped on the screen with two fingers. And if we want to read, do with up with three fingers like this, if we want a specific color we already used on the campus, we just have to all the screen and will appear this I drop. We just have to move it above the color we want. So, for example, I want this blue, and now we have this blue. But if we want to just go back to the previous color, we just have to all for a second the color wheel like this and we have the previous color. When we want to feel a big figure, we just have to drug the color wheel into the figure like this to create perfect shapes. We just have to draw a shape and all the figure for a second. We have lines like this or circles in this case we go to headed and we have an ellipse, but we want a circle. So we just press the circle and we have one. We may have hold so poorly lines, and we just have to go to edit and select the solution we're looking for. And that's all you need to know about the basics. Um, procreate.
3. Sketching is important: in my previous class about Kawai Arte, we've seen together out to do very cute characters by using basic shapes. And so today I want to show you how to draw the same characters. But, um, procreate. The first part off the drawing process is the sketch, and it is the most important part because if you're not satisfied with the sketch, we're not going anywhere. We can work on our sketch directly on our iPod, or we can make our sketch on paper and then go to actions and click on, insert a photo off our sketch and then set the opacity on a lower value so you will create a new layer and you will troll above it anyway. Now I'm going to show you how to draw the sketch on procreate, and first of all, I choose a bright red. Then I go to the sketching brushes and I usually use the H B, and it's time to activate the symmetry as we've seen before. Now I want to draw a very cute bear with you, and I'm going to use the shape we've seen in the previous class. If you didn't watch it yet, I highly recommended, so you will feel more confident about basic shapes and expressions. A secret when you're sketching is that if you draw too many lines, it can get really confusing. So I highly recommend to use the least lines you can off course When we are beginners, we use tones of lies so we can divide the process into parts. You may then use another color. For example, the blue andro Onley the outline. It's not perfect, but it's better than having too many lies. Let's go back to our sketch. We want to use only perfect shapes, as we have seen in the previous video, and I'm going to add it the shape until we find ah, big Head like this. And then we are the arms here and cute A years like days off course. The more you use, the perfect shapes function, the more the shape is good. Now we draw the face elements using Kawai proportions, and I draw my overall eyes than the nose later knows super cute and then the mouth by creating a narc. Two arcs and our sketch is done
4. Setup the Palette First: one off. The best secret is to set up your palate before starting. You may have a clear idea of what you're going to draw or no clue at all. In the last case that our websites, where you can find press set pallets, there are tons off them and they can be very inspiring. I personally used Adobe Caller in this case, though I'm very sure about the fact I'm going to draw a polar bear. So, first of all, we need to have a pure white and the pure black in our palate. We just have to select a random color and then go to value to create a pure white. We have to set the separation to 0% and the rightness to ah 100%. I put it on top of my palette and then for our very black, we need to set the brightness to 0% and we put our black. I usually put it down here. Okay, Now, let me tell you this secret first, every time I set my main color, then I need a lighter color of it and the darker color of it for the shadows. And I usually use the white for the highlights. But here I want to keep it simple and have chosen a polar bear where the white is both the light color and the one I use for the eye lights. So we have the white and now as my main color, I want something very light in this gap off blue Andi, I pick something between the grey Andi, the blue. I choose the swamp and then for the shadow, something more blue. Off course, you can use the colors you like the most. For example, we could make a brown bear and the rules are the same. So which is a corner on DWI? Take a light version of it and then a darker one that is the middle one and the doctor one for the shadows. The next step will be drawing the outline. So last but not least for the outline, we need a very dark version off our main color. So for my outline, I've chosen a very dark blue like this one. Okay, so we need just to set the size of our brush to 28% and we're ready to go
5. How to Set the Brush: Now I want to share with you my brush. So you have to go to calligraphy here and select the monoline. You need to create a copy so duplicated like this and then you click on it. Now you have to set the spacing to known. And the streamline two marks. And now you have my smooth brush. That is there. He's is to use.
6. Drawing the Outline: we are finally ready to go with the outline, and all I have to do is to create a new layer and then, first of all, making the had. Because if you're going to use the symmetry for the hat, you're going to have a wear that shape. I'm going to show you what I mean. For example, if you create a narc like that, you see it's a bit difficult, so I highly recommend to do the head before and then activate the drawing. Assist and start with the body. If you think the shape looks a bit weird, click on Edit and work with it until you're satisfied now for the arms. We need another arc to do the belly. We can use a narc, but if it's difficult, you can create a new layer where there's no symmetry on and to the belly like this. At the end, you just pinch the two layers together and you have the complete drawing. It's the turn off the face, so we draw the years the ice over. Aziz usual the nose for the mouth. I set my brush size to 10% and we do two arcs, as in the sketch on the song. Now we have a very happy bear and we're ready to color it. And for the next step, we just need to the select the drawing assist. Then we can select our sketch, and we can also switch off the drawing guide. Now, we just duplicate this layer and move the new one down and we are ready to color.
7. Time to Color: So now we are ready to color and we drug our main color in every part Off our bear. As I've told you before, the white will be used as lighter color off the main one. So now I need the middle color. That is this blue gray, very light. The real name is eyes great. And then I'm going to drag the color wheel in all the sections off my bear. Secret time. When you're using a light color, I recommend to death select the background color. So you make sure that your coloring every single part off your character. Now that I'm sure everything is color, I choose the pink kinda for the mouth and I start with the one for the back off the mouth. And then I pick a lighter pink for the dunk like this. Last details to Had I used the same thing for the internal ears off my bear
8. How to Add Lights & Shadows: when I drove my characters. I always start with the shadows. So let's bake the darker color in our palate. And is this blue gray and I'm going to activate the symmetry. Then, before drawing the lights and the shadows, we have to the side where the source of light comes from. And the best way for beginners is to imagine that it always comes frontal so perfectly in front of our character. And let me show you with a quick drawing. What? I mean, So this is where the lights comes from, and all around we will mostly have shadows on the edges of our characters. But now we see together. What? I mean, so activate the Alfa lock on this layer. First of all, we have shadow here following the outline off the body. We keep using perfect shapes. We make a narc on caller or inside. Okay, Then we have another shadow. Yeah, because the belly is big. And then we have a little shadow also here because the belly steel is big enough to cover the arms. And then we have a little shadow here to give dimension to the head. We still use perfect shapes the outline. He's big enough to cover imperfections than data shadows. Year on the Here's I honestly don't use the outline brush to do the lights and shadow usually, but in this class, I want to keep it simple and do everything with one brush on Lee. Now about the highlights. I'm going to use the white that, in this case is also our light color, as I told before, and I don't want to do much, but just a few lines to show you how I usually do so. First of all, we have reflections a year on the arms and then on the badly. We also can draw a few highlights on opposite positions on the belly or even in the head. It depends on your personal taste. Then it's time for the reflections on the eyes. So we create a new layer and activate the drawing assists for the ice on Lee because for the knows, we can do a new layer or they activate the drawing assists on the layer we were using for the eyes. Andro a line here, our but is done for the background. We can have fun finding a color. On contrast, or just one that we like. We may also create just a circle, for example, as background are also draw something, maybe a landscape. We're totally free to be creative.
9. Your Turn!: So we've seen together out to create digital contents step by step from the sketch to the coloring part. And now it's your turn for your project. I wanted to draw a cute car that following my guidelines and you can choose the subject or you can draw the same bear we've drew together. I would love to see your projects. So if you'd like, post them in the project gallery. If you have any questions, I'm always here for you. But if you'd rather contact me on Instagram, you can find me as life in Abuja.
