1. Introduction: Procreate has released its biggest update called Procreate 5, which comes with tons of new upgrades and new features which brings the most popular illustration up to a whole new level. Apart from a new graphic engine and interface enhancements, there are new features like color harmony, CMYK color profiles, animation assists, clone tool, new brushes, and a whole new [inaudible] studio with tons of new settings. Really, that is the giant upgrade. If you're seeing me for the first time, my name is Alexander Gabor, and I'm a professional art teacher with a master's degree in art education. I'm also an artist, illustrator, and online educator, and you can find me online as the Artmother. You can take a look on my illustration classes on different topics where I'm generally using Procreate. I have a chance to personally meet a Procreate team in Eindhoven at Playgrounds, and I tried out early version of it, and I was also part of the beta testing. I guess I am ready to guide you through the program. After taking a closer look on the new features, we are going to do a step-by-step illustration together to see these features in action. After this class, you will have a greater understanding of Procreate. You will be able to use the new features meaningfully and we'll be able to create a glowing, animated illustration with your animated handwriting on it. So cute, right? The class is ideal for any new or old user of the Procreate app. Even though the class is focused on new features, and I will not go into details or explain the basic functions, it is suitable for beginners as well. If you are a very beginner and haven't worked in Procreate yet, I suggest you take one of my beginner classes to get to grasp of it, but you shouldn't hesitate to take this class as well as following my detail description, you will be able to finish the class project with confidence. The class project is totally doable for very beginners. I'm providing you all the resources, and if you have been with me in my other digital illustration classes, you know that I'm commenting on everything and leave notes so that you can really follow along. After the class, you will be [inaudible] skills and knowledge that you can apply into your own illustration bag, and actually any other bag you doing Procreate. Are you ready to start? Let get started.
2. The Interface: Welcome to the class. Let me at first thank you for taking it. Yes. Procreate has released its newest update named Procreate 5 which brings all new features and upgrades to the App, which makes it an industrial leader creative application used by professionals for real. If you haven't got Procreate hit the App Store, you can purchase it. If you have it, hit the App store to upgrade it for free. If you have all these done, let me tell you a few words how this course will look like. So at the first videos we will go through the whole App, and I will go through all the features with a special focus on the upgrades, and new possibilities Procreate 5 offers. I am not going to go into too much detail as everything will make sense when we arrive to the second part of the class, where we will create an animated glowing illustration together. If you are, a complain now is to procreate and something is not really clear. At first, take a look on my other digital illustration classes. Then I also recommend you to use the discussion tab below to ask your questions. You can always turn to the procreate artist handbook. Let me just show you how you can find it. If you go to Safari and go to Google, and you write, "procreate artist handbook" and click to Desktop Procreate Original Support. It will bring you to a website where you have everything. So click on here and write a keyboard or hit you chapters and everything as described in detail. I'm not going to explain you anything like, okay you need to click here and it means desk and etc. But I will focus mainly on the new features. I don't want to bore you with would like obvious things. Another thing that I really recommend you to do is to go to Instagram and follow procreate there. They always have very valuable stories, they are answering questions, they are sharing amazing artworks and they have tutorials. There is Georgie who I met in person, I think she will be here, yes and she gives amazing tutorials, there are live drawings, etc. So if you are really willing to get better and your skills on disk as an essential thing to do. So in this first video, we will talk about the interface. So let's open procreate. We are at a gallery and at first, everything looks the same, but they made upgrades for a better user experience. The whole program runs on a new graphic engine called Valkyre which brings the performance of the App to new hits. But it is a invisible feature, as you will not necessarily notice it. When you open the App, it looks exactly the same as before. So you have your artworks stacks, the navigation is the same so you can hit "Select" to select artworks. You can import files, you can use a photo and you have the usual Palestine here where you can actually notice the first thing that is different. It is different because there is a new information included here. As you can see, RGB and CMYK. This is one of the new features, Procreate 5 offers that you can work in different color spectrum's. We will discuss this feature in the next video. But let me just tell you now that when you create a new Canvas and said the color profile on it, you cannot change it later. This is why you see this information right here so that you know what color profile you will work in when you open that Canvas. Now, here are some preset Canvases. When you create a new Canvas, you need to hit this plus sign and there are several settings you can set. You can set the width, the height. You can set the metrics you are setting it in so millimeters, centimeters, inches, and pixels. You can set the DPI, which is the dots per inch, which is actually the resolution of your artwork. It is best to set to a 300 DPI, 300 dpi worlds generally pretty much for everything. So it is good enough for wet and also for print. So you can start a color profiles here if you hit here. You also have different time-lapse settings. So now we have 4K. This is the lossless quality. You have studio quality, 2K, etc, HD, and ERC is a new format not supported everywhere and it is like the best quality. I need to check it. EVC offers higher video quality at a smaller file size. This functionality has applications in video overlays, programming, web integration and green screening. The format is not yet supported everywhere. So that's the official thing to say about this setting. Then you have the Canvas properties where you can set the background color and you can set the background to be hidden. Okay, so before we create a new Canvas, let's discuss the color profiles in the next video.
3. Color Profiles: Now the question is, what is CMYK? It is cyan, magenta, yellow, and key black, and these are the inks that are used by the printer to produce the colors. Every printer has different capabilities on color spectrums they can produce.Now when to choose a CMYK profile? This is a great question. It is important to know, when are you going to print your artwork, If you are actually going to. If not, and your artwork will be mostly presented digitally, stick with the RGB. There is a Generic CMYK Profile right here. It is recommended by Procreate, but this profile offers a general colors spectrum, that should be handled by any printer. If you take a look on this colors, let just see. If you take a look on these colors, they are totally uninteresting and dull. They are not that vibrant. They can be a really nice colors obviously, but you can have a wider spectrum in a different color profile. You are limiting yourself, and why would you if you are not going to print your artwork? Most of the printers can create better colors, and printing services even better. If you plan to print your artwork, but you don't have a printer, simply use a printing stylus. For this you don't really need to work in a generic CMYK profile. See RGB colors when printed are adjusted to their most accurate versions by printers themselves. This of course doesn't always work. This is why professionals adjust their colors in Photoshop to see how their RGB artwork translates to CMYK, and then work on it more. This is why we need to check the while using our artwork, for the illustration process so that regardless the color or design will look good in a black and white and any printer can produce a black and white print. If I have my values right, it isn't most probable my colored version will work fine as well. The book I'm holding here is a "Wonder" by Beatrice Blue; she is one of my favorite illustrators, and she works in Procreate mostly. This book was created mostly in procreate. I might be a trace personally in a workshop in Rome and asked her this question specifically, how does she translates her procreate artifacts for print, and she said that she's not really doing too much adjustments of- regarding the CMYK colors. She mostly does it in Photoshop, but generally, RGB prints from Procreate. Let's go back here. Now the question arrives when to use CMYK and I have a question to that. Do you have your own printer? Then it makes sense. Every printer comes with a so called ICC profile. These are the profiles that you can see here. These profiles are defining the exact color spectrum the printer can produce. If you plan to print your artwork, or know what printer where to print your artwork on, and also what paper will you use? Because that is also important, as you will see in a second. Then you should get the ICC profile of the printer, install it. Because now you can import ICC profiles, up to procreate and work in that color spectrum, and by this, you are maximizing the quality of your artwork. Now the question, how do I download or import an ICC profile? Now I will show you how to download one. There is a paper manufacturer called Hahnemühle. I will show you it as Hahnemühle go. Yeah, so they are creating paper specifically for Digital Fine Arts, so I'll click on "Digital FineArt", then click on "ICC Profile", and click on "Download Center". Now you can select a printer you are going to use. The printer I want to buy and I will get as Canon. The printer is Pixma Pro 100. As you can see, you can select exact printer. Now you had a paper group. This is a type of a paper, so I want Matt FineArt Smooth. Obviously this will make sense when you will know what paper you want to print on, and you know what printer you are going to use. Now I am just showing you some- the general process of it. You can choose the exact paper you are buying, and when you click here, here is a download list. You just download the zip file that I want. It is downloading and as you can see it as a zip file, so you need unzipper and I have an application product called Izip, and if I open it, I can go to Document Browser. I click on the zip file, I hit "Yes", I unzip all files, and then choose the ICC profile, I hit "Open in" and find Copy to Procreate, and then it will import them into actually RGB. I'm not sure why it imports into RGB. Maybe it is a bug, not yet resolved by Procreate, it doesn't matter. You will find it in this library. Choose that, hit "Create", and when you open the color panel, you will see the exact colors, that can be produced, by this printer onto that paper. Now I can maximize the potential of my work. I can use exact colors, and I will not be surprised by the results I will get. To sum it up, my recommendation is to use RGB, and the Procreate team recommends the Display P3, RGB color mode. You will get a wider color spectrum. You do the job once, and then you can adjust your colors in Photoshop if needed, or use a printing service that can produce high quality prints unless, you have a specific printers you use. Then take the advantage of the ICC profile of the printer to get the most out of it. One more thing, always check your values because if you have your values right, your print will look great. Let's create our canvas and let's take what to Display P3 and RGB Create, and let's move on to the new color tools in the next video.
4. New Color Tools: Let's create a colors and see the panels. I'm going to stay in the colors I have just created. The interface is basically divided into three parts, the painting tools, the sidebar, and the advanced features. We are going to take a look on each of them, and now we'll just start with the painting tools. At the painting tools, we have the paint, the smudge, the erase, the layers, and the colors panel. In this video, we're going to talk about the color panel, as we already discussed the colors in the previous video. You can open up the color panel when you hit on the color button up here, which always shows the currently selected color. When you open up the panel, you have several possibilities to display the color spectrum like the color wheel, or the classic. Up here, you have the possibility to choose two colors. You can see the active color and the secondary color as well, which is connected to the new feature called color dynamics. We're going to talk about it a little bit more later. Down here, you have another feature called history. It displays the last 10 colors you used. Colors are added automatically as you select them. If I select a new color, and use it, it will automatically come into the history panel. As I add new, and new colors, let's say this one, it will come here, and all the colors will get bumped off the grid. If you want to keep important colors that you pick up through the process, you should just add them to your color palette. There is a bonus shortcut that I was not aware of, is that when you hold down the color button, you get to the previous color. It's really a helpful thing or a helpful shortcut when you are painting, and you add just switching through two colors. You don't need to click and pick them up, you just hold down, and you are painting with the previous color. So next feature here, I will just clear this. So the next feature here is the color companion, as the procreate team calls it. But it is rather a floating color palette, which means that you can detach the color panel, and you can move it around on the canvas. Now this is a stylized version of the color palette or the color panel. You can see the disc, you have the classic as well. You have the color harmony, you have the values. When you click here, you have the actual color palette that you have set as a default. One thing I am personally missing from this color companion is that I'm missing the color [inaudible] from here. So when I for example, place this to the side bar, and I am painting something, and choosing another color, etc, working, or I'm choosing a color from here, I'm missing to see the actual color up here. But I guess this is just a matter of getting used to it. So if you close it, it'll just get back to the original color palette. Then let's see what other things are new here. So we have to use your color disk, we have the classic, and now we have a new menu here called Harmony. In the color harmony pallete. You can choose from four colors schemes. You can see them up here. So you [inaudible] compliment, and a colors which are colors that are opposite to each other, than they are to split complimentary, analogous, triadic, and titradic. So each of these schemes follow certain rules for choosing colors that fit each other. The harmony interface combines hue and saturation into single color wheel. Colors at the edge are the maximum saturation and become less saturated towards the center. You also have the brightness slider under the wheel so you can start the darkness and the brightness as well. Another new feature is the reticle. You have it on the desk and classic. It is basically an empty circle, which displays two colors. On the right side you see the color you are hovering over. On the left you will see the most recent color in your history. So you can compare the two colors that you are going to use. It can be a really handy tool, forgetting like better color combinations. There is one panel that I'm honestly not using much, and that is the value panel. The only feature I practically use there is that you can enter the exact color codes here. This is really important for designers, mostly when they have exact colors they need to work with. But as we talk about illustration, for example, you might get a commission from accompany to create a little illustration to them. You might want to use the colors of the companies so that the illustration and the colors of the company match. So you might want to ask for the design manual and get this hexadecimal code of the color. You just enter it, and you will get the exact color that you're looking for. So this is the meaning for me of this panel. Then you have the pallets, you can create new pallets. There is nothing new here. You can just choose the colors. When you create a new pallet, it automatically becomes the default. So I created a new pallet and when I go to classic, this empty pallet will be here. So I can just start to pick colors. As you can see, this radical is helping me out. I can change the hue. Wow, amazing colors right here. You can just start building your color palette. So that is all about is color tools. Let's move on to the other parts of this painting panel.
5. Brushes: Let's move on to the layers panel first to see what's new there, and to do that, let's go to the artwork of the finished illustration we are going to create so that we can see the layers. The layers panel actually looks the same. What you can see here is the animation assist which transforms layers to frames. But let's just open this, and this is the illustration itself. When you click on a layer, you have the same settings. The only thing that is changed is that when you click on this end button, the panel looks different. You have the blending modes here. Now, you don't need to click on it separately, but you can just roll or swipe through it, which acts again, to the workflow. You can just swipe, and see what looks good. You can go back to normal, and you have the opacity or transparency slider down here. This is what's new in the layers panel. These free tools, the eraser, the smudge, and the brush or the paint tool uses the same brush library. Now, we're going to talk about the brush library. The first upgrade is that there are tons of new brushes. I'm not going to go through all of them, try them out for yourself. In this class, we are going to use new brushes from this brush library. I don't have anything new yet. What is an extremely amazing new feature is that now, you can combine brushes. When you go to this part, you can select these two brushes, and combine them together, and create a whole new brush having the features of the two brushes. You have a completely new brush. Let me just show you. One thing is that you only can combine brushes that are in the same brush set, and the second is that you cannot combine default Procreate brushes, but you can duplicate them. What I had here was the Larapuna brush. You can just duplicate it, and move it to a new new set, and then you can combine those two. I now, have one combined brush, and a normal brush. I can again combine these together. Actually you have endless possibilities for creating brushes. Now, let's move on to the new brush studio. When you hit on a brush you already have, you have a completely new brush studio right here. We are not going to go through all of the features because this brush studio could use an individual class for itself, and it will be in the future. I just need to get comfortable with it. This is something that you have a giant drawing pad where you can try out your new brush. When you hit here, you can clear the drawing pad, and you can set the preview size, and you can now use colors to preview your brush, and it is amazing. You also have something new here, which is called color dynamics. It gives your brush the ability to shift through different values of hue, saturation, lightness, and darkness. You can also choose a secondary color that we talked about in the color panel, and actually the stroke combines those two colors. You can use all these settings individually or in combinations. There are endless possibilities. I don't really want to spend too much time here. I would rather move on to the advanced features in the next video.
6. Advanced Features: Let's close the brush studio and let's move to this part of the interface. As I already told you, the interface is divided into three parts. We have the sidebar here, so let's just talk about that for a second. You have the transparency, a slider here or opacity slider, then you have the size slider here, and you have the modify button, which is preset to open the eyedropper, which picks optic colors. You click on it and you can move it around. But now when you click and hold down anywhere on the screen with your finger, you evoke the eyedropper again. What is great to set this modifying button to a different option. When you go to the settings, find the gesture controls that you have in the preferences, go to gesture controls and you can start, let's say the quick menu for the Modify button. Now you go to the eyedropper and it turned off itself. Now I have a quick menu and I hit done. When I hit this, I have this quick menu and it will add to my workflow as well. Why would I want to have an eyedropper here and when I have the eyedropper when I hold down with my finger. That's for the sidebar. I would love to move on to this part of the interface. Let's first mention the transform tool, which is here and I think it works exactly the same as before. I haven't found any new settings here. Then we have to select. What is new in the Select tool is you have to save and load. When I'm, let's say free handing a selection, I can hit save and load and hit the plus sign and this selection will be saved for this document. Honestly, I haven't figured out how this will be useful in my work yet. I will let you you know when I will. We just move on to the adjustments where is an amazing thing, what is new? We have the usual things, the opacity, Gaussian blur, motion blur, perspective blur, sharpen, noise, liquefy, that we had already, and now we have a Clone tool. If you are a Photoshop user, you will find it super-helpful. I really missed it from my workflow. Let's say we already did surfing tool illustration. I have it's shaded, I have the textures in it. Let's move on to this hair part because it is more diverse. I realized that I'm missing this part of the hair. Now what? I'm going to unlock this layer, I will go to the Adjustments and Clone tool and a circle will appear. Now I can move this circle to the area that I can clone. You can set the brush size and the strength. Now I will start painting and I will simply clone to areas the circle is moving to. Now I can more easily feel up mistakes, missing pixels, adjusting shapes in my illustration. It is extremely helpful and I'm really glad they included it in Procreate. Now let's move onto the actions, the range button and see what's new there.
7. Animation Assist: This video is dedicated to the most hived new feature, the animation assist. You can find the animation assist when you hit a range button, go to Canvas and you have animation assist here and you turn it on. Well on. I have the animation already done that we are going to create in the next part of the class. Animation assist basically means that you will have a timeline down here and all of your layers will become frames. The timeline represents a reframe of your animation as a thumbnail. You can rearrange down. For example, if you hold down, you can rearrange these frames. One great thing is that you can play your animation without having to export it in the previous version you have to.You can now add also blank frame. Here is the live preview. You can add frames as many times as you wish. Also when you click on individual frames, you get an extra menu. Let's say you can delete duplicate or hold duration. Hold duration means that one specific frame will hold longer without the need of duplicating it. If I say hold duration for, four frames, this exact frame will be there in the animation for four frames. I don't need to duplicate this exact frame. I will just hold duration and you will see a which frames I hold by seeing it as a little bit grayed out, okay? You can lock the first frame. If you go to the first frame, you can see it is that to be a background. This means that this illustration, will be throughout a whole animation as a background. Everything you create in this frames will be above this background. You can also set a foreground as well. You can really focus on the moving elements. At the settings right here, you can control the settings for the overall animation, like frames per second. Animation creates the illusion of movement by playing a series of drawings. A typical animation plays at 12 frames per second and cinema quality animation can be up to 24 drawings per second. The more frames per second the smoother animation is. Then you have onionskin frames. Onion skinning basically means that you see your previous drawings so that you know what to draw next, here at the settings you can set how many onion skin frames you can see and also you can set there re opacity. The blend primary frame. By default, your primary or current frame appears as a solid on top of all of secondary frames. But you can give it a more blended in transparent appearance by switching it on. When I switch it on, it will be more blended in. Now you don't really see that. Basically it means that it is not going to be this harsh. But if it little bit blends in so you can make smoother changes in the movement. Then you have the color secondary frames, which means that it will make your primary frames tend out even more. This switch will make all secondary frames appear in contrasting colors. You will be not lost in all these transparent drawings, but you will see what you are actually drawing, right? You can also set how to play your animation. There is one shot with place-it from the beginning to the end. The loop real, played in a circle, so around and round and ping-pong will play it back and forth. Okay, so that is what you need to know first about animation. I think we have discussed most of the new features. Let's move on to the second part of the class where we will start with the illustration.
8. Illustration Setup'n'color: All right, welcome to the illustration part where we are going to create a glowing animated illustration together. The first video is going to be more about the setup and creating a color palette. We just create a new Canvas. Hit the plus sign. If you have been with me already, you know that what I love to use is the screen size Canvas. I'm going to keep this in the recommended RGB mode, because I'm not going to print this in anyway, so hit just the screen size Canvas. Now let's just download the sketch. You can find the resources below the class at the projects and resources section. Here at this side below the create project button, you have free resources for this class. We have this sketch PNG, the glowing illustration or regional file that you have for reference with all the layers and everything I have created in this class. Then, there is the glowing illustration swatches, which is the color palette that we are going to create in a second. Obviously, you can create your own color palette that you want to use. You have this original file so that you can see what layers I have if you need any help. Here at this sketch, you just need to click on it and follow the instructions your iPad is offering and it will actually save onto a camera roll. Hit the Wrench button, hit Insert photo, All photos and I'm going to just look for the sketch. It's here. I would just click on it and place it into the middle. You have your artistic freedom. If you want to use a difference sketch, do so. The point of this part of the class is to create at first an easy animation and at second, to create a glowing animation because I want to show you a technique by which you can make things like glow. I have chosen the iPad and the procreates icon in the middle so that it represents this class. This is a basic character that I love to create. The girl with glasses. Of course, you can do your own characters, so you can just download this sketch and erase the character or change features or create different glasses or make bigger ears, different eyes, different hair, etc. You can really customize this sketch. I'll create a totally new one, just have something that will glow. All right? What I wanted to say is that you will find the colored palette as well in the resources, but now, let's just create a new one. Hit the Color bottom up here, go to the palettes and hit the Plus sign. I will create a new palette called glowing illustration. It is set as default. I'm going to go back to the harmony. Let's try the harmony tool. I can see that it is too dark, so I'm going to increase the brightness. What I know that one of my favorite colors is this magenta. I will make it a little bit lighter. I'm going to go through the color schemes. Let's see what is its complimentary color? Actually, it looks pretty great. It's a minty green. But I like it to be a little bit more blue. Maybe my magenta will be a little bit more reddish, but I don't like that. We need to find it like this. All right, so let's try it. I will add this magenta and this green here. Let's just try different ones. Split complementary, how does that look like? Yes, I have my bluish turquoise color, that is one of my favorites. I will add it here. It is a little bit different than this one. Let's see the magenta here. All right. It isn't more of purplish. Let's try a different, analogous. Triadic. I love this green. This yellowish green is better. I need to have a little bit white or yellow as well here. As you can see what I'm doing is that I'm finding the hues that I like the most and I try to find why they're in darker version of it or to find the perfect shades of it. I like this blue as well. I will choose then ones that I like the most. What I note is that I want her hair to be magenta. I want her glasses to be this greenish color. Otherwise, I will need this blue only for the glow. I don't really need any other color. I will need color for the skin, but I will make it a little bit later. I want to find the perfect shades for hair. I love this better. This is too vibrant. I don't like the triadic. Lets try the tetradic. If I go here, it fits this green that I have. All right. I will have mostly these three colors actually, but this is the magenta I want. This is the green. I have all my colors. Again, let's repeat the process. Go to the color harmony, look at your illustration, find hues that you want, try out the color schemes, try out the best hues that fits you and try to find a matching color. Then go to the classic, find darker versions of these colors and then let's move on and create our illustration.
9. The Face: In this video we are going to lay down the bases and we will need brushes for this. I have an amazing illustration brushes that you might have already known, but we are not going to use them now because I want to experiment with the new brushes procreate five has. I'm going to create a new group, at least like this, and I will start it like glowing illustration. The reason is that I want to play with the dual leafy of brushes. I want them to be in one sat. One brush that I found amazing is the reed brush. This is going to be my liner brush. if you go to organic, you have the reed. Click on that brush and hit duplicate and take this brush and go to this glowing and just add it there. It is in the sketching and I don't want it to be the sketching [inaudible] glowing. Let's try yes, it is here. This is going to be my liner. The other brush that I'm going to use for textures and shading is that the artistic. It is called larapuna. What I'm going to do is to duplicate this brush as well. I'm going to pull it into glowing. Although I have a liner and a shader and actually I only need two brushes for that. I will need some more brushes for some details and for the glowing effect. But to place or to paint the most important things, I need this two brushes. I will just show you how those work and I will just choose the magenta to show you. The liner brush looks like this. We'll make it bigger. This is a nice textured brush and the larapuna is a really nice textured brush. You can see it does amazing things. Well, I just love it so much. These are the brushes that we are going to work with. Let's look at the layers. I'll put it at multiply and lower the opacity. Let's create a new layer below this catch. Actually, we should start with the face. Let's choose the color of the skin and choose the reed brush outline just it is too orange-y. I need to change it. I will just start with the face and add this layer. I'm just going to fill in the shape of the face. You know what? Let's use a color companion. I will put the color companion right here. What I'm doing is that I'm filling in the ears and the face. I will turn off this cuts so that I can see. I needed to be a bit less opac so that I can make the shape better, so I make my brush smaller, and just work on the shape. If I have some extra texture, I just double-tap on the Apple pencil and delete from it. When you have the face, alpha lock the layer, just the darker version of the color and I will choose a larapuna to see what it does. As you can see, I can lay down basic shading below this face so that it gives it a little bit of dimension. This brush is a little bit smudging, so it is pretty gray that it blends easily. I will add a little bit, below the eyes, but I will need to make it a bit smaller. Make it a little bit like this. Below the ears like that. When you feel you went too dark, then choose the lighter one and add back to it. It will be just a really nice textured effect. Add a little bit of a dimension to this face. I will add a bit of darkness here, down a little bit more. Actually below here. Notice that the way you hold your Apple pencil is also important. If I hold it straight down, I make a mark like this. If I tilt, it is smudging actually. You can play with that as well. I will add this darker line below the hair. It will be a shadow below that hair there. I had the face. Let's move on to the other features.
10. Facial Features: Okay. So let's add the eyes. I will create a new layer about a face, and I will go to the classic and actually choose not exactly white, but a little bit grayish color. Choose the reed and what I need to do is to draw the eyes. Maybe I will need whiter things, so I will just alpha lock it, choose complete white, choose the Larapuna and add to it a little bit of white. So it will already have a little bit of a diversity within that eye. I need to fix the shape effect a little bit. Now, I will create a new layer about his eyes and head clipping mask. This will make anything that I draw into this layer will be clipped into the shape of this layer. I will choose a color for the eyes, and I want it to be a nice brown. I will add it here to the palette. I will choose a darker version is as well and I will choose this lighter one, choose the reed and I will draw the eye. I will alpha lock it, choose the darker version again, choose the Larapuna, make it smaller, and just add dimension outside the eye. Into the middle, I will choose black, choose the reed, and I will add the pupil. Actually, I will go back to the palette choose this brown go back to the classic and choose a little bit lighter brown, choose the larapuna, make it small and I will add, not that small, a little bit bigger. I will add a little bit of white here, a color it is too big. I will choose the white and add the light. All right. So now, we have the eyes. Let's add a little bit of line work up here. For this, I will create a new layer above. This is going to be the details. I will choose this dark brown and choose this catching and choose this 6B pencil and draw something like this. I can add the eyebrows as well up here and add details like the mouth and ears. Now, you might ask what about the nose? That is a great question because actually, I hate drawing noses. I will go back to the face and hit the plus sign and choose this lighter skin color, go back to the reed and turn off the face below. What I'm going to do at this layer is to draw the nose, only the nose like this. I will turn on the back. So go to the classic, even darker, I have the larapuna. I will add shadow to the nose, but to the facial part. So this will be actually like dark shadow below the nose. Actually, I will alpha lock the nose itself and add a little bit of larapuna to it to blend it. Turn on the sketch. Actually, I can work on it like this and I can see that I have a mistake here. So that's about the nose. I will make it a little bit darker. I'm playing with this shadow actually below the nose that the nose makes actually and I want to blend it into the face. I don't want it to be too dark and I don't also want to have line work defining the nose, but this shadow will make it like that. What do I say? I say it's all right. I will turn on the sketch and I guess we have the face. So let's move on to the hair in the next video.
11. The Hair: [MUSIC] Let's continue with the neck and the head. Let's create a layer below the head. Hit the reed brush, and just add the neck. Actually, then that's the neck. I will alpha lock it to the darker version, choose the larapuna, and add the little shadow below the head, but it should be even darker. That's too much. I will go to the classic and choose even darker color. I'll just add to that. I will create a new layer for the hand as well. Again, the same process, choose the reed brush, draw the hand. Amazing. I will alpha lock it to the darker version again of larapuna and add a bit of a shadow. I love how this brush works. It is so surprising sometimes. Okay. Now I will add again with the 6B pencil and this darker, not that darker. Let's go here and choose a color like this and add the nail. Now when this is too much, do the same to the nail and add some lines. Yeah. That's just okay. Let's move on to the hair. I will create a new layer below the face, choose the lighter magenta, choose the reed brush, and let's just create a shape for the hair. Actually for the whole head, we can just do that. What I noticed in this new version of Procreate is that when you use a textured brush for the line work, it is leaving out less of these pixels. Because I had lots of problems with this texture liner brushes that when I filled them with color as I done it before, it was not okay. I just want to show you that the eraser uses the same brush library and I want to erase with the reed brush. I'm going to choose to the reed brush. So it is not that hard edged when I get back from it. Okay? I want to keep that texture. I love the texture, but sometimes you need to get rid of it. I'm going to speed this a little bit up. I'm going to go back and forth to guide the best shape from the hair. Okay. I will turn this layer off and create a new layer above the head to create this part of her hair. Okay. Now, I will turn on the back as well. I will choose a darker version of that magenta, choose the larapuna, and make the back darker and make it a bit bigger. So it is a bit darker right here and even darker. I will need to go here and choose this original color to add back to it. Let's go to the front, alpha lock it again. [inaudible] It will not be seen too much actually. I will actually turn this off so that we can create the iPad. I need to put this down. Okay. So I have to turn off this hair. Let's move on to the next video to create the iPad.
12. Ipad: In this video, we are going to create the iPad. Create a new layer above the hair. Let's choose white for the iPad or little bit grayish color. I will just put it here. What do we need to do is to go to the layers and change the background color to a little bit gray so that we can see really what we are doing. I will go to this layer, with this gray, choose the red brush, and I will just fill in the shape of the iPad. So I would again speed this up. We can now use the clone tool. As you can see, I have some pixels missing here. I will turn off this. I need this neck to be a bit longer, so I will alpha unlock it, go to the adjustments and I have the clone tool. I can place now the circle to the area I want to clone and I will choose a smaller brush size and I will simply clone. This is incredible. I will go to the layer of the hand as well, and I will do the same here. I will erase a little bit from the hand. I will go to the adjustments clone, I just place it here and I need it to be an alpha locked, and I can start filling in. So we tried the clone tool amazing. So let's turn on the iPad. Let's alpha lock it. I will choose black and I will choose again, this catching 6B pencil and I'm just going to add a little light line around its shape. Cool. Now the thing we are going to do is to add the appropriate logo here, and I don't want to draw that. So what I'm going to do is to go to Google and hit procreates logo. Lets just download it. Holds down at the photos, open Procreate insert a photo. I have it right here, it has a background. So what I'm going to do is to go to the selection tool automatic and hit everything around, swipe down, and hit the cuts. Now what I'm left with is the logo. So I will place it into the middle. I will choose it, I will turn it upside down and place it into the middle right here and hit distort. What I'm going to do is to add a little bit off the feeling that it is following the shape of the iPad. So yeah, I like that, and we have the procreate logo in the middle of our iPad. Now, turn on the hair, and let's work on it a little bit more.
13. Details and Accessories: I will add some extra darkness with the Larapuna. I want this hair to be this dark, even darker, maybe back here and then a little lighter. As you can see, you can just play with it. That helps. I need to Alpha lock it, and add back a little bit of this hair. As you can see this brush is creating extremely amazing effects, like a bit of glowing and a bit of texture. We can add some lines to it. What I love to do is to choose the lightest color. Again, use the 6B pencil and just add some lines to add some extra detail to the hair so that it can be this lighter. A little bit like this. What is missing? The glasses, so let's do the glasses. I'm going to create a new layer above everything. let's think about its color. What we wanted was this green, so let's go with it. I would choose to reed, and I'm just going to draw. Now that you have the main shape approximately right, let's give it some shadow, so I will, Alpha lock it again, and choose this little lighter and the Larapuna. I'm just going to make it a bit lighter. Actually, I don't really like this greenish. I want a little bit or even more like lime colored. As you can see this color harmonies, it can give you an idea of what you want, but you don't need to follow that. I want a darker green as well, but for shading, so I will make this smaller, make it a darker green, and I will add a bit of a shadow to the glasses. We are finished with the girl. We need to add a glowing effect, and then we will move into the animation. We are, actually, done basically with the basic illustration, so let's move on to the next video where we are going to add the glowing effect.
14. Glowing Effect: Now that we have done basically the illustration and in this video, we are going to deal with the glow. Turn on this catch and as you can see, you'll have these lines here which define the shape of the glow. Now choose this still color that you have in the palette, go to the painting round brush, and we are going to create a layer to define the shape. Create a new layer actually above everything, make the brush to 40 or 50 opacity, make it big, and try to create a layer of this blue above the whole illustration in the shape of course. If you have something excess, just grab the eraser and erase from it, like that. Pull on the iPad here. Now hit "Gaussian Blur" and blur the whole together. Now you can go to the background color and change it to black. You already have a glow around the whole. But it is actually not enough, what I loved to add is, if you go to the "Luminance", you have the "Nebula" here and it is an amazing thing to use as you can see adds something like this, but we don't need it that much. Make it smaller, maybe less opaque and just really lightly because it will go to a little bit of a greenish color and I don't want that. Maybe yeah, lower the opacity, it works fine. Make it at around this size and just go through it a little bit and voila, we have the glowing illustration. I can lower the opacity of this layer so that the girl looks better. You can play a lot with this. You can play with, lowering the opacity or adding more layers of different effects. I really like it this way. Then lets move one to the next video where we are going to add animation to it.
15. Animation: We have arrived to the animation part and let's just do it. We have our illustration. We have everything on separate layers. Let's just click on the wrench button, click on the canvas and turn Animation Assist on. Now as you can see, what it did was that it placed every single layer on a different frame. Because as we already talked about, every layer represents a different frame. Now what I need to do is to select all these layers and group them. Now I have a single frame, including my illustration. I will actually keep this layer here. What I'm going to do is to go down to the timeline and add frames. If I hit 'add frame' it will create a blank frame above it. We talked about the frames per second. Frames per second mean that the number of frames you see in one second. Now we'll just do a two-second illustration. This will mean we will have 24 frames. I will set this to 12 and I will create 24 separate frames. I have, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24. As you can see my whole illustration disappeared. The reason is that this frame is not fixed. I want this frame to be my background, so I click on it and hit background. Now as you can see, when I go through all these frames, I can see the background frame. We are going to create a separate animation about this illustration. We could of course do animations to the eyes and different parts of the body of the girl. But I didn't want to make this to be too complicated. We are just going to try out the concept of it all. What I'm going to do is to create one more frame. The reason is because, we are going to draw a path. The easiest thing to animate is simple movement of a simple object. We are going to create glowing circles and we need to define the path of the movement they are making. I will just get a sketch, the 6B pencil. I will choose a color. Let it be this light blue. We are going to have three bubbles or glowing points. One is going to go this way. One is going to go in a loop and the third one will have a loop down here and will go up here. This is going to be the path of my bubbles. I am not going to include this in the animation. I am just going to use it as a reference. Now, choose the illuminance brush and my favorite, one the lightpen. I will just show you what it does. Can you see that? It looks amazing. It is already glowing and I don't really need to play with the glowing that much. What I'm going to do is add the first frame. I will do three little dots to the beginning of these paths. Another thing I wanted to explain to you is that we can create the illusion of depth within the picture with the use of the rule of perspective. This rule is that what is closer looks bigger than what is further away. If you take a look on my hand, now it is smaller than when I bring it closer. Now it looks bigger and now it is smaller. We're going to use this in this animation. We are going to go through this path by drawing small, bigger, smaller dots. When played, this will look like the ball or this bubble is coming closer and going further away. We have the three main dots. Let's just click on the second frame and as you can see, this is the only a skin ink that when I click on the frame that I have drawn on, it's solid. When I click on the next one, it is a bit transparent but I can still see where it is. I can make a nicer movement. I am drawing a bigger circle on this one and let's move on to the next and I am going to make even bigger circles. Next one, even bigger. Next one, it is going to be the biggest. The next one, I'm going to get smaller one. Where is this going? Yeah, here? Next one, smaller. One thing that may occur to you that as we are going further and further into frames, the path that I've drawn is getting less seen. We are going to move that frame in a second. Let's just do that. To rearrange the frames, just hold down on the frame and just place it further on the timeline. I will place it somewhere here so that I can see it. Here I was. Next frame. I will go again bigger. Next frame, bigger. Next frame. Bigger. Next frame, even bigger and here you need to keep track where are you, so pay attention to that. Not that you miss the path you're on. Big again. This is my path frame so leave that out. Move to the next one. I'm again going to go smaller, again smaller, small. These two are going to continue. This is going to be out of the frame. Now I only have two really smalls. Now I just continue again. Go bigger, oops. Next frame, bigger. Next frame, bigger. Let's continue until these two also leave the picture. When I run out of the frames, I will just add. This is out so I will just add one more frame like this. Now let's hit play. Yeah, I need to remove my path frame. I will just click on it and delete. Now let's play it. Can you see that? It looks amazing. Great. You can set the play mode so you can play it as a one shot. It will go like I played it and end of story. You can play it in a loop so it will go around. Yeah. You can go to ping pong and it plays it back and forth. Plays it and goes back. I think the loop is the best setting for this. This is the basic animation I wanted to show you but now I want to show you another thing in the next video. We're going to add our hand drawing to it. I will write Procreate 5, but you can write any word that you wish.
16. Animated Handwriting: Okay, so in this video, I'm going to add the lettering into it and let's just take a look on the frames. As you can see, I have the grouped illustration as the background. I have all the frames. I can either add my lettering into each individual frame. But what I wanted to show you is that when I create a new layer and group these together, I can draw on this layer individually with the light pen. To draw for example, a letter, and then create a new layer and group it would this frame so that I can basically edit separately these two. For example, I would draw a letter somewhere where my letter meets the point or the frame I'm in, I will not be able to edit it, but I don't want to over-complicate it, I just wanted to show this to you. I don't want this to be grouped, so I will delete this layer. We are going to draw our letters into these frames, all right? I will create a new frame and create a path for my lettering. I will go back to the inking, not in sketching 6B and I will write Procreate 5 but nicer letters, okay? Like that, this is going to be my path again. Let's get back to the luminance the light pen and I will click on the first frame and I will start drawing. As you can see, I started with this line and I will go to the next frame and make it longer, next frame, make it like this next frame, I have the P next frame. I again need to draw the P and start with the R. You can have another word that you want to illustrate, the point of this is the method I am using this. It gives it a nice, a fact that not all writings are the same as you will see. I will need to move my path frame again somewhere to the middle. Like here for example where is it? Yeah. I'm here and next one, you need to write the same exact word as many times as you have frames. This is not good. Actually you need to somehow find the perfect amount of progress within two frames so that you don't spend maybe too much time on the first letter and then less on this letter, for example. Now I have four frames left to draw the whole expression again and it will give you a little wide Bernstein. Okay, so we'll just do that. Next one. Okay, and let's hit Play. Yeah. I always forget to delete my path frame so I will click on it and delete and play it again. Do you like it? So hit "Export" and "Save image". All right. Then also make sure to create a cover photo. To do that, choose one frame for the laddering. Click and hold down so that it shows and then turn the illustration on, and now export it as a JPEG. Save image. Now go to skill share and below the class, find a projects and resources and hit "Create Project". Now, you can upload an image, choose the photo library. Choose this. Done. Just hit "submit". You can name your project. Let's name it Glowing Illustration. But actually you can call it as you wish. Then hit "image", follow library, and choose the GIF. It will add into it. Yeah, it's here. You can write all description, how you like the project, how you like the clause outside [inaudible] and then hit "publish". It will be published.
