About This Class

In today's course I'm showing you how I varnish my paintings! I will be showing you two different kind of paintings, one is made on Yupo Paper which is a synthetic paper with alcohol ink art on top of it and my other painting is acrylics on canvas. It's a very simple and easy technique I developed myself and it's very beginner friendly!

I also want to mention, you do not need resin or any other fancy stuff in this course to get beautiful results.

Let's seal those gorgeous gems of yours with a topcoat!

Hi, my name is Poppy! Fluid artist and dark art artist based in the Netherlands, also blood artist because I adore blood and sometimes paint with my own blood but mainly inspired blood paintings with my Poppy signature also known as the red fade in my blood works.

I love sunsets, I'm great at finding lucky clovers, gyoza is my fav, for a snack I love salted popcorn, also cheese popcorn but that one is very exclusive here in the Netherlands. I should make it myself. Speaking of that, I love to cook and bake, I meditate multiple times a day, I love to work on myself and my consciousness, always working with the Universe and the Law of Assumption. My favorite color is soft pink with a pearly shimmer, my favorite holiday is Christmas and listening to Christmas music all year round is... See full profile

1. Intro : Hi, my name is Bobby. I'm an artist. I'm known for my blood inspired art works, but I also have a very colorful site which I showed you before here on Skillshare, I have multiple courses up about acrylic pouring, including the rainbow pore. But today it's all about finishing up your paintings. I always foreigners my paintings because I love how the colors come back alive the moment you seal the deal with this shiny gloss, you've got multiple ways to finance your pieces. But today I'm going to show you how you can do it the quick and easy way. I use this technique myself and I love how in a flick of a wrist you can lock the colors in. So let's get started. 2. The supplies you need: As I said, it's quick and it's easy. I usually do this outside, but for filming and doing it inside of my studio today. But if you can do it outside, please go outside. And it doesn't really matter if you're inside or outside. Use a mosque. I use the tree. Whole face masks, the respiratory ones. But if you're inside, also open the windows and make sure to reduce the fumes during and after your furnace session. I also use gloss. I got a brush. This one has a very, very soft and gentle bristles. You need a box. I can't really show you the bucks. I think it's too big for the few. As I said, it's fairly big, but it's one of those plastic boxes that you can put on top of it, some recyclable plastic for on your table or your work spot. But because I'm already in my studio, it's already on here for me. You can also use a trash bag or a plastic bags and varnishing it. Can I use these brands because I'm from the Netherlands and we do not have Crayola. And over here, ghrelin is a fairly famous brand. It is mostly used by artists in the USA and in Canada for furnishing their pieces. It is possible for me to get it shipped to the Netherlands though, but the shipping costs are way high. They're like, I think the entire package calls between 80 and maybe hundred euros. So it was back then. I didn't know how it is now, but that is why I formed my own version. So I'm very pleased with this one. It took me awhile though, but I got it. This brand is sold at the hallmark in the Netherlands. It is around €10. It's the high gloss foreign news and I prefer Hague laws for my painting, yoga foreign A's in all kinds of finishes. So just explore for you whatever you prefer. Hello. Today, I'm going to use high gloss finish. It took for you if you're exploring and experimenting, make a tryout painting. I did that as well for myself. And that is, I use a white, clean, clear canvas and the moment you spray or apply a varnish on top of it, you can immediately see if it's clear and I run into so many yellow varnish is the discipline for me is crystal-clear. It also stays clear by the way, due to the UV protection that is in there. And right away, you can always google the brand to see if they set it in your country or in your area. With that being said, Let's get started. 3. Cleaning your paintings: First I'm going to put on my gloves. Always like that. I always work with gloves, especially because I'm an artist and I like to keep my hands clean, but because of common convex so much with pain and all kinds of stuff and varnish. I just always use protection with gloves to be blue clothing and of course my mosque, but the gloves are on. First, I'm going to clean my paintings and that is why I brought myself dense, gentle bro. I'm going to clean them because there is dust on them, you probably cannot really see it. But the moment you go close up, I can show it to you. You will see this particles. That can be because I feel the intro into paintings lay on top of my table. But also this can be collecting in your paintings with ease. They can lie a little bit on the table. We've worked foreign news and even when I protect them against us, it still ends up there. So we need delicate brush, gently swipe over the paintings. I do take my time for this. I don't want to ruin the Yangzi my piece, this painting is made on Bupa paper, which is made from synthetics. And when I brush to heart, I Smartsheet it. Sometimes the FX are awesome. Not whether on, right now, I prefer to do this in a different spot than a Usha. You are actually varnish because we're filming in the same spot today, so we don't have a choice, but it's a tip for you. If you can furnish in a different area than the QR, dusting them off. That would be amazing. It prevents the dust from flying in the air a later leaning back into your pieces again, take your time for it. You can also blow it away. I noticed you have those cans with air in them that, hey, this works amazing for me and that is the key right here. Do whatever works good for you. I'm showing you my way. You can do whatever you want. We're going to shift over to the acrylic painting. Do keep in mind if you work with silicone in your artwork, e.g. when you make an acrylic pour painting, clean your paintings first because you will spread this silicone everywhere. And if you apply it to date with the spray for RNAs, you will do on your entire piece whenever you're done cleaning your paintings from the dust, I like to prepare my space and there's already plastic or my table as I told you before, lie down your classic if you want, you can take the sides, especially if you're outdoors, That would be amazing because then the plastic or whatever you're using, boom, fly up and smack your painting the moment you're done varnishing it will stick to it and we do not want that. If you want, you can even grab the plastic box that I showed you before, which I can really show you because it's so big but easier. You can place it on top of your painting, let the dust settle for like ten to 15 min and come back in. I also built for his tens that's above my patron if you're interested in that. But today is all about ease. All of that. Put on your mask, put on your gloves if you don't already have them on, I prefer to put them on before. It's actually my paintings. But if you haven't, you can put them on now because it's time to varnish. 4. Varnishing the Yupo Paper painting: I shake up my spray fine niche and I like to walk my painting like these are my arm. We can also lead sled that I like to work when it's laying on my arm because I feel like I have better control over the painting and also over the spray orange itself. Then I lightly brush over the painting. I do not have any one spot. I just keep on going because painting in one spot gives you an irregular finish, which can be noticeable. And if you do it too much, you get drips and we don't know long trips today. So be fast, but not too fast. Not too slow and slightly brush which you can overdo painting itself. I prefer to do. I see multiple layers instead of a very thick one. It's better to ease the layers onto it and has some drain time in-between. And then the moment I'm done, I put the box on top of it so it can dry and cure. Nps is only takes a few minutes though, but do not touch it until you wait at least a day or so. I always take one day for it. Before I go to touch the painting. Let's move over to the Canvas. 5. Varnishing the canvas painting: Canvas painting, I worked slightly different because I hold in my hand. This also gives me better control, but this technique is still the same. You're going to get laid flat if that works out for you. But I have done it so many times. I know my weight in it. I prefer to flick the painting around so I can see where the furnish has landed and it did not, It's ten layers. So finish with a campus. I'm also willing to add more layers or to apply it in a little bit thicker than I do. And the pupil paper or the blood type painting that you saw before, because it is more possible now due to the acrylics that I have used on this one, when you work with inks, that is not possible because you will make the ink if you apply the list too thick. Run me again, I'm still protein layers at first, a leader being a little heavy-handed. But again, it's not. The delays gets so thick that you create drips. Then when you're done, you put the baby under a box and let the gym dry. Wait. The canvas paintings, I have way more careful with dry because most of the time the acrylics need to try a little longer. So don't ask them to see if they're ready or if they're done. Do not do this. And if you're really curious, please touch the side instead of on the front. Because when you touch them on the front or the side that's facing you, you will always see that. Just wait at least one day before the painting again, it should be fine after 6 h, but I rather be safe than sorry, if you do mess up your findings, do not panic most of the time. If it's still wet, it is possible to apply another layer or multiple layers and you won't see it anymore. And if delay is so thick that you gotta drip quickly, wipe it away with my finger when it's still fresh and wet and it's hard to blend it in as much as I can, but also fairly minimal. At the same spot. I do not spread it all over the painting, but only in the area, but I don't touch it too much. It's just a swipe and a slight tap. Add more layers to it or find it in this web state. And this always helped me out. 6. Outro: That is how I finished my paintings. It's such a quick and easy way. You can do it everywhere. Indoors, but also outdoors, which I prefer. But you can do it in the garage. But always make sure that you open the windows and please be aware of your surroundings because you're not only furnishing your paintings. If you don't take other stuff away, the varnish may sometimes can hit other things nearby and that is why I like to make sure that everything is covered under plastic. If I'm doing this immersive video or take special pieces, are finished pieces out of the way. Of course, safety first, wear your gloves, wear your mask. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to follow me on Instagram. Your couriers of our paintings check them out in my shop because they are all available over there.
