1. Introduction: Hello, Welcome to this DIY tutorial. My name is shield out. A Dutch designer with a passion for minimalistic, sustainable and timeless design. Together with my husband and two beautiful little kids, be like a lifestyle for creative expressions. And a few years ago I started my own fashion brands called kibble, a sustainable clothing brand for babies and children. Over the years, I've made a lot of clothes and beautiful home suit items. I discovered that there's so much value in making something yourself. There's something so rewarding about having things around your home or in your closet. You have made by herself. Making a piece of art has something magical. I want others to experience that feeling. So I love to inspire you and show you how to make your own homes, food items, some basic same skill sets, an important and fun skill to learn. In this class, I teach you how to make this beautiful pillow with an invisible zipper. I'm going to show you how to decorate your space beautifully by making a simple but stylish pillow. You can use the skill of using an invisible zipper in many other ways. For example, when you are making a bag or a piece of clothing, like a threat. Making this pillow is such a good start to learn this technique. Only nature searing machine tools, which some basic CRM skills you will be surprised what a beautiful results you can achieve. So hope after this class and let's get started. 2. Tools and Materials : Tools and materials. You'll need some tools and materials to get started. This is what you need. A piece of fabric you're like, I use a strong piece of fabric made from organic cotton. Seedling threats in the color of the fabric you use. End an invisible zipper. Also in the color of the fabric you use. An invisible zipper is different than a regular zipper. The teeth of the Sippar are on the back instead of the front, which ensures that the zipper is almost invisible. This gives some nice effects because you can make the cushion cover nice and tight. You also need an inner question or cotton rule for the inside of your pillow. A pen or chalk to put stripes on the fabric. Scissors, one for cutting fabric and a smaller one for cutting the ceiling. Threats, suing pins and the hand noodle. Some rulers. I use one with a wide angle because it's easier to draw a square with this one. And of course you need your sewing machine. If you have alpha lock machine, I would definitely recommend using this one also to sue the edges of the fabric. But I'll also show you how to do this with your regular machine. You also need a special invisible zipper foot to put the separate inside. It makes it really easy to sell. So class project, collect all the tools and materials and arrange them clearly on your workspace. 3. Preparations: Preparing your workspace, your fabric, zipper, ensuing machine. Good show. You collected all the tools and materials you'll need for this class. Provide an environment where you have enough space, such as a large table. You will need enough space to cut and sue the fabric. Make sure to fabric you use is whilst a nicely aren't. Normally the fabric will go a bit into wars with the results that it's no longer fits around the inner coercion. To prevent this, it is the best to put a fabric in a washing machine before suing and makes sure that the fabric is Ireland, nice and tight. It is also important to iron out your zipper. This makes it so much easier to sue it tight. Just pressing it all the way so that it lays flat. Now we are making your sewing machine ready. We prepared a sewing machine by placing the food for the invisible zipper on the machine. And make sure that your needle is in the right place, like this class project. First, you make sure that your fabric is worse than iron's. You also iron out your zipper. Then you make your sewing machine ready for use by placing the zipper foot on a machine and fret the right color swings fret into your machine. Well, Good job. Now, everything is ready to start. 4. Shorten the zipper: How to shorten your zipper. So as you can see, the Cyprus to lung where your pillow, you want five centimeters space from each side. So around two inches from both sides. I'm gonna be taken this 1540 centimeters zipper and shortening it to an 11 in zipper. So this is 30 centimeters. You'd need to do this if you are making a customized project that needs a separate criticized, it's not sold in the store. So let's get started. The first thing I'm gonna do is to grab my ruler because I'm going to measure my zipper. So I have to separate all the raise it up and I'm shortening it by four. So ten centimeters. When you have marked this, you're gonna make a whip stitch. At this point. I have my thread, that needle here. We didn't not at the end. And I'm going to come up from underneath. So my nut is hidden on the back of the paper. Now I'm coming up right alongside of these teeth. So once you come up, you are going directly onto the other side of the teeth. I put my needle through and then come right up where I came up originally and pull it through. And that is one way of states. Now, easy, right? So you repeat the same stitch a couple of times and you want them to be real close to each other. Once you have done about ten stitches, you're going to type the ceilings trap. You are going to do is to turn the zipper tape over onto the back side. And psi naught, naught will be hidden again on the wrong side of the zipper tape. After you have finished doing your stitches, you are going to mark like around two centimeters, so half an inch from your stitches. So this is where we are going to cut with scissors. Normally the zipper teeth is made out of plastic. So it's okay if you use your regular scissors to cut through just like that. Wow, well done. This is also your class project. Short your zipper with a whip stitch in the size you want, so that your SIP is not too big, but also not too small for your pillow case. 5. Cutting the fabric: Cutting out the fabric. The pillar cover I'm going to make as a standard size pillow from that ikea. It is a 40 by 40 centimeter square. So 15.7 by 15.7 inches. I like that the cushion cover fits tightly around the inner question, I don't want any slack and my pillow cover, sort of cushion cover looks nice and professional if there are no creases in it. So I kept my fabric 41 by 41 centimeters. So this is about 60.2 by 60.2 inches. You can also choose to cut the fabric exactly as a square. But once you get a large protruding corners on this side like this, you call them dark ears. To eliminate this, we will make a small curve. From the center. It runs in around one centimeter, so 0.4 inches to the corners. So the corners are not completely square. The pillar will looks way more professional. You need your ruler and tape measure and mark of your fabric at 16.2.2 inches. So 41 by 41 centimeters mark of the size you want. And make sure that the corners are in centimeters, so 0.4 inches in words like this. Now your pillow cover is ready to cut out. Now you place this piece on top of the other piece of your fabric and cut it out as well. So you have two identical pieces. You can also fold the fabric in half and cut those two pieces out at the same time. Or grab another piece of fabric with a different color. So the back of the pillow looks different from the front. You can use all your creativity. I show you how to make discover from the same fabric. Class Projects. Determine the size. Pillow. Draw this measurements on your fabric. One centimeter extra points running in with one centimeter. One centimeter is 0.4 inches from the bank. 6. Sewing the invisible zipper: Suing the invisible zipper. Now you have the front and the back of your pillow. It's time to put in the zipper. Place one piece of the fabric with a right-side-up. You can put the other part aside for a well, even need this one later. Now, take the invisible zipper. You lay it with the teeth placed upwards, so the wrong side is facing you. You place the zipper exactly in the middle of the piece of your fabric. Mark the middle of the fabric. You also do this with a zipper. Draw a line in the middle. Now place the center of the zipper. On the center of the fabric. Zipper is 30 centimeters, so 11 inches, and the fabric is 40 centimeters. So this is 15 inches. I have five centimeters or two inches space on both sides. Now you unzip the zipper. Fast under separate to the fabric with a suing paints. Now it is time to use your sewing machine. Take the pieces to your sewing machine. In the video Preparing your workspace, I already showed you how to set up your sewing machine. Place the beginning of the zipper on your sewing machine. And we are going to be suing right on that crease what we opened up. So it is a perfect line all the way down. We do this with a straight stitch. You want to sue as close to the edges as possible. Because the tidy you do this, the better the zipper is concealed. So put the zipper foot on the fabric and check if the needle is as close as possible. To rely on that, we have ironed out open, close to the teeth, secure the starting points by going back and forth with your sewing machine a few times. You know, Sue the entire zipper with a straight stitch. Take your time for this. Now you have arrived at the last part. As you can see, the slider is in your way, but it doesn't matter. You stop suing when you can sue any further. And fast and a zipper here by going back and forth. You will not see this in final result. Okay, Now we're going to test the zipper. It is important that it slides easily. Well done. You are halfway. Take the other piece of fabric, find the middle point where you have drawn the line. Pin this side of the zipper to the fabric. Again with the right sides facing each other. Now, open up your zipper carefully. Now you sue the entire zipper again with a straight stitch. Now you're suing from the bottom of the zipper slider is to the top. Make sure that the needle of your Zoom machine is directly as close as possible to the teeth of the Sippar. Go back and forward again and Syria entire zipper with a straight stitch. Ten fabric over and test your zipper. Claus projects. Mark the middle of your fabric and the zipper. In your zipper on the fabric. With the right side of the zipper, on the right side on the fabric. Suit and tie your zipper with the straight stitch as close to the teeth as possible. And repeat this on the other side. 7. Finishing: Finishing the pillow question. We are going to sue in the same line, starting from the point where you've finished your stitches. Subpoenaed two edges. We will attach these two small pieces with the invisible zipper foot because we have to sue close to the Sippar again. So CO2 side next to the zipper. Make sure that you are not selling the zipper, ends, the zipper tape. So you sue only the fabric. Try to get as close to the Zoom line as possible. But it doesn't matter if there's a little space between them. You will not see this in the N3 sold. So now we're going to sue the other side. Open up the zipper a little bit and make sure to slide. It doesn't get in a way. So as you can see, this gives a beautiful result. You don't see the small open space between the stitches. So now we're going to finish the rest of the cushion cover IP in both sides of the pillar together and they will fit exactly on each other. Fcfs and both fabrics together, we are going to change the invisible zipper food into a regular food on your sewing machine. So now we can start suing. I'm using a straight stitch and I am suing around the whole pillowcase. The last part, it is important to open up the zipper. Otherwise we won't be able to turn the pillowcase to the right side. Finished everything neatly by cutting all the loose threads. To get the coordinates nice. I got small nips in accordance with my scissors, but not too close to the soon edges. Turn the pillowcase to the right side and check all the seams and make sure everything is tight. Now folded in a cushion in half. And place it in the cover. Make sure the corners fit well in the cover. So close, zipper and shape the pillow a bit. And here it is, a beautiful pillow with the invisible zipper who held ON clause project. Finished the edges next to the zipper. Fabrics together and Sue around the whole pillow cover. Kindness everything neatly by cutting all the stress and placed in integration. 8.
