1. Welcome!: Hello and welcome. My name is Patricia Caldera, and in this quest, we're going to learn how to draw hands in a very easy step by step process. I know that hence can be very hard to draw. I can vouch for that, but I also think they can be very fun to do. And you can also give a lot of emotion to a drawing simply with your hands how you draw your hands. So let's do this before we start. Let's see what will be talking about and what we'll need for this class. You need a pencil and a piece of paper. Or, if you prefer to do it digitally, you can use a drawing software of your choice, like for the show, Poor Creature or even Munger Studio, along with drawing tablets. First off, I'm just going to give you some resource is so you can use for your own practices, and after that, we're going to start drawing, beginning with open hands, front and back, all very simple and with some examples to help you understand and visualize everything better. Then we'll talk about fingers in more detail again. We'll go over simple shapes to draw fingers both flexed and stretch, and Tom Boswell, which, as you know, is very different from the rest. Since we drew an open hand, we're going to learn how to draw a close fist as well in two different views. Finally, we're going over details that you can add to your hands like hair nails, Ringo's. Then you'll talk about differences between male and female hands, old and baby hands, and how to draw each of this at the end. You also have an assignment so you can put everything to practice right away. And, as always, feel free to share your work with us in the project section and ready to begin. Then let's get started. 2. Hand References And Resources: hello and welcome everyone. Now, before we go to our practice and we start working on all the hands we have to work on first . As always, I want to show some places for to get resource is for you to do some practices whenever you want to. So the 1st 1 is interest again. I have a boards full off hands full of images for you to use several poses, both in black and white and in color. As you might notice, usually in black and white. You can see more clearly how the shading behave, so if you want to study about your hands and shading them, those are very good. So there's lots off hands here. Older hands, female hands, mail, different types of pans. So feel free to come up over here and studied this and use these for your practices. Then we have a line of faction dot com. This is a website for Chester drawing, so this is more if you want to do quick studies off hands. So as you can see, you have a figure drawing animals, expressions and faces. But you can also just look for images off hands. So we can. Over here, you can have both of them or, if preferred, just choose hands. You have several options here for you to choose from. If you want to see only female models are only more male models. You can choose that. How long do you want each image to stay up? You have form from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. If you really want to practice quick scratches and try to capture the essential, I would say to not go above two minutes. 10 minutes is not a lot of time, but you can already gets quite a few details in there. So it's different kinds of exercises, depending on what you're feeling like doing. And whenever you have your choices, you get trying and the images will start to appear. They have the count on in here. It will count the time. Once the time is, then it will skip for the next image. If you want, though, you can pause your images. You can play them again and you can change them. You can change picture and go for your next book, so this is a good one for practicing your hands. And other than this, we have another website. It's very similar. It's a bit more simple to use. It's sketch daily. That's Ned's. You come over here and again, you have a full body option, you have the animals option and also body parts. And when you come up over here, you have both hands or heads. So in our case, we want some hands again. You can choose to gender if you want both female and male models, or if you want just a particular one. Another interesting feature here is that if you want, you can have different views. So if you want to just throw your hands in the front position, you can choose that same from side or back and again, you can choose the time Waas Everything is shows and just click start and there we go again . You have some images again. You can pause them if you wish to. You can change for the next picture, and you can draw and practice from here. Now, apart from this, I want also to show it. This one's I took some photos, some off this photos will be using for our practices in our videos and two things is that You can also take your own pictures for your head practices. And I'm also giving you these ones for you. So if you want to can download these images in a project section for your own practices, so feel free to use them than a lots to see here and have fun. This is it for now. Next, we're going to start to drawing some hands. Very simple and very easy, So I'll see you in the next video. 3. The Basic Hand Shapes Step by Step: Hello and welcome back, everyone. We're going to start our drawings now, and the first thing is basic hand shape. So we're going to draw our hand the very basic position and open hand, both from the back and front position. Eso We nail down our basic shapes when drawing hands and fingers and then we'll go on from there. So I have here are first referenced our first image, and we're going to start with that. So, like always, we're going to create a new layer, and we're going to start with the shapes, very simple ones. So I'm going to come up over here and grab my pestle brush the pencil that I use from our for my sketch from us Shapes choose wherever he wants, and we're going to start by drying on top of our image so we can understand how our shapes are. This is always a good exercise when you're learning. If you're not sure how to draw something, take a picture of it, draw the basic shapes on top and then you just need to practice them. And after you have your shapes memorized, you can go for the next step. So first shapes. So we start here. We have this curse. There we go. And now we're going to have almost like a square shape. So we go down and if you want, you can keep this shape here. So when done, here and here and there we go. We have this weird shape. So you already know that this is the first shape you'll want to do, of course, that everyone has their own process. So if you do find another way to figure out your hands, well, share it with me and everyone has their own process and their ways of learning. There's no wrong way to go about it. So we have here health for her, off for Hendon on the detail here that I also want to talk about is debts. These are touchline. Here we have usually will always be the same curve that we have in here. So the second thing you can go to is to go over here and raw another girl's line. It is not completely perfect, but it is good enough we can still make here, so we know that that's finger is always bigger. The middle finger who always be taller then the rest. So we have here the shape for our fingers, so it's almost like a Pentagon shaped very regular. Here we go now for the tongue. I usually go with a circle here. This is the beginning of autumn and then a curved line. There we go. We're going to talk more about fingers in the some. But for now, this is how we go now for the fingers. There's two ways to go about it. One is you find the joints. So we have here and Madras circles like this one. Circle two circles, Sri circles. This is a way doing it. Another one is And this one might be easier at the beginning is for you to draw rectangles from joint to joint. So come up over here. We have one to entry. Yeah, Same thing here. We have one to And what entry and so on. Next one works. So this way you have your hands, mostly bills. So if you prefer it beginning to get used a drying hands, maybe you can do this shapes first, and then go for the circles in the joints and then connect all the circles Practice this shapes a lot of times and you'll see that in no time you'll know how to go with your hands . The most important thing when learning is always memorizing your ships, and from there you know them automatically and to intuitively, and you'll be able to draw your hands or feet or any object or any part of the human body very easily. Now, as you can see, for the some, we can do the same thing. So rectangle and kind of a circle, even the circle, if you wished. There we go. So this is it. This is our shapes. And now that we nailed on our mind shapes, we just need Teoh bring you over to the size or, alternatively, do the same shapes on the sides so you can practice them and then when you're happy with your shapes, were going to draw on top off them. So we're going to draw or raw sketch. So before going to the final version, we're going to draw a sketch. So I have here another layer, and we can start drawing our sketch. Take your time. As you can see, there's kind of a curve here. We can show that curve. There we go and then we have here our finger. The fingers are mostly done already, so let's just go with it. Pay attention to certain slight certain legs like this one. The spaces. Let's go between the fingers, the details. Look at your pictures and pay attention. Toe all those details. We can start adding some males as well. We're going to live our hands very, very simple for now, because we're going to talk about the details that we can adds to them later on. So let's just focus on our main shapes and how to draw very simple and handful now. And don't be afraid off drying hands. I know they can be very scary to draw. A dissing is first of all, everyone has different hands. As you can see, these are this is my hand and there are very weird. Um, they behave in a very wit way. The fingers are short that are people that have longer fingers, for example, and thinner fingers. Everyone is different. So feel free to study several kinds of hands and and see their differences. Take pictures off your hands, take pictures off other people's hands, find them on the Internet like places like I've shown you before. It's always good for you to practice different kinds off hands and also a good way for you to not feel very intimidated by them about not drawing perfect hands. Well, there's a lot of different kinds off hands, so there's no need to be afraid of them. And there we go next. So this is it that can ads just this here. Maybe just for a bit. This is the good time, too, to take note off different details or features in in the hand that you study. For example. I see that I have here this week. We're scar. I can make bit off that here. And when you ready, we can go for a final version. So a bit of a pass ity here, A new layer. I'm going to use my brush for the final lines going to go with of black color here and recon starts. And now half the work is done and we just need to read your lines, clean them up and we're done. So have fun. Take it slow This you don't have anyone behind you. I hope so. Telling you to hurry up. So take your time doing our lines. Repeat them as much as you like and needs. As you see, I do repeat my lines a lot as well, until I'm heavy with them. Take us to the time while you're studying and and practicing to try different tools. So either different brushes on your drawing software or different kinds off pens, pencils and brushes, watercolor brushes, different kinds off pains, for example. While practicing is always a good time to experiment different materials. You never know when you're going to find your new favorites till to use. So there we go that Weir's cover curve over here. Let's see something like this. I don't want to exaggerate it a lot, but if you wish to, if that's if style, exaggerate your shapes as well. It's also, and always a good way to start allies. Your work, as always, just experiments, new things. I would just finish here or trump in this view with your time from the side. So Onley part off the fingernail is shown, and there we go. We have here are first hands, so now that we're done, we're going to add some color something very simple. We don't need to overdo it. Right now we're just learning drawing part. But we can always add some color to it like we always do. So just choose a simple skin scholar, anything that you like. Um, so if you're doing this digital, you can so sometime close your shape down here and go to the pink bucket and we're done, if not to take your time. Coloring is also a good way for you to get used to your drawing table or any tool that you're using. Eso take your time if you need to. Now, just remember, if you do use the point Burkart, you need to take a look at her drawing at color where it's missing. You raise some parts that might go over the lines and you don't want to. There we go. And now for the nose. We usually have this pinkish stone. So let's do that bit more. Yes, maybe something like this. Let's try out. Don't be afraid to try different colors if you need Teoh, so yeah, there we go. We have here and now we just add color to our nails. Of course, that depending on your skin color. The nails will also have different tones, so that's also a good thing for you to study. And don't forget that here this part it tend to be looks. They tend to have a lighter color, usually white, but we can, to some changes here, a bit more pinkish if we wish to. And there we go. This is it's now all you need to add if you wish to, is some shadows. You can look at your picture and see where our shadows are, and it makes your life a bit easier so that you don't make any mistakes or you don't know how to go with your shadows. So there we go. Let's keep it very simple, because longer she needs. If you want to practice your coloring, then do take more time with this sport. If not, if you just want to practice the drawings of your hands, you can skip the coloring part. Here we have it all right. So very simple coloring and shaving and we are done with the back of her hands. Now we're going to draw the palm off the hands, so let's do this 4. Drawing The Palm Of The Hand: Okay, so for the public, her hands at the first thing, you might notice that forces that we have a lot more lines here. No males, but a lot off tiny details. So let's do this again. Would want to start with our shapes. So I'm going to get here, my man Su, and he'll do the same and we're going to draw our ships together now. So again, our shapes here we go to be very similar. So we have that squared shape for the poem and then this the same arch for the top of the fingers and we connect everything. This time we're going to do the other process that we talk about, which is using circles for the joints and connect everything. So you have both options and you learn both off them. And this way you can see which one you prefer. If doing rectangles for the fingers are going with circles for joints and connect everything. So let's do this. So our curve here now we go down and again, we can do this shape here. This is exactly the same shape as before, but in 40 to the other side, because we just turned our hand. Tow us now for the fingers again. A cut off point here. And if you prefer, just go do it like this. So up to you and what you like to work the best. And now we connect everything. So just two lines going down and we have here our whole hands again for that some we go circle here. Don't worry too much about your minds or shapes right now you're just doing the shapes. This is not your final, your final version off the trying. So don't worry. And a line here. Okay, So, circles going to start one circle here, another here and now it's up to you prefer here. I prefer to do the circle from the tip of our fingers. So this way you have boats, the bottom of our finger and the tip of our fingers. So now we just need to connect everything. And if you prefer, you can also have this line here. So you know where your finger begins? A worried and so the same thing for the others. When here we have our circle. Also, if you noticed that top circle is always smaller than the other two. They are a bit smaller for the tip over fingers. Now here again and not mine And circle the circles also can be very useful because you can see how close or how far away the fingers are from each other. Now another circle here and you can also see the difference off each fingers. Some fingers are thicker than the others again. One circle here it's a bit weirder. So we have Here are all the circle the pinky smaller So are joined. Joins are also course together here. If you want, you can also did so. This one, it's whatever helps you the best. You can also do the four circles if you wish them so. This is it. This is our ships right now. We can move this to the side and I would just need to connect everything. What? We forgot something. Go. We forgot our ships for the tongue. If you wish you if not, it just you can just leave this line. If you feel very confident already about you're comes so rectangle and sickle And yes, now we can do our sketch where we will connect everything up So you layer on top of this one. A darker tone, same brush, and we're going to do here our hands So went to start here with our with our pinky. Let's try to see our hands here to see how our lines will behave. So disco, a bit outs and then curve here and out again. And now here we have the wrist. Now this line, this curved line here is very important here because with cans he here some lines and we can make used off them when practicing and when drying our hands in general. So But let's leave this for later. So one finger is done now, As you can see, we have this line going here and then up. So it's to that. And then our finger once again, another one. This two are very close together again. At this points don't need to worry too much about your lines. Thesis. Just sketch and not the final person off. You're trying now, as you can see here, my finger does this and then this. So let's try to take some advantage of it to make our finger look different or more unique . Eriko. Now here, as you can see there some wrinkles here from my wrists. We can also draw them a bit, and this is mostly it's now. If you want, we can adds those. Some of the details resemble. Like I said, we have here this lines that we can draw bits and this. There's his main palm lines. We're going to talk about the bomb ones later, but this is all they need to do. And of course, if you wish to, you can give here so more detail, a bit of lines. And whenever you're ready, we can, too, our final lines. So let's do that. Also feel free to tell me which off these preferreds the circles in the joints or doing the rectangle shapes for the fingers. Everyone works differently in learns differently, so I'm always curious to see what each person prefers. And don't forget as you're doing your final lines to check on your image and see what's you can door any kind off line that might be a bit different. Basically, just check your lines. No, I'm going to see to try the fingers is So for example, here I see that there are my lines. Go a bit inside but inside and they go out again and inside. And we can, too a bit of that like this, for example, then to go with more stylised hands usually, But it's all up to you how you prefer to dry your hands if you have a more realistic style , uh, usually go for the cartoony approach and that IHS mostly what we're doing here. But overall, it doesn't matter what style you're going for. Just relax. Just that your lines happen. If you focus too much on them, they will look tense. And chess is Are you not going to be as happy with them as you want it? So take your time and relax. Don't worry too much about your minds. The real gets how you want him to get. We'd practice practice a lot. Worry about practicing a lot. As you can see, I'm taking a bit more liberty with my lines. Here they are not the same as I can see in my hands. But like I said, we're going to talk about the details. Laters. So I'm going to take a different approach to them and see andro what we see from the hands later on. off course when you're doing your final lines, feel free to change and make her one's a bit different if you're not totally happy with the ones you have in your sketch. But this is it. We are done here with our hands, the palm of your hands and again. All we have to do now is to color it. So let's do that. I'm going to copy the color from before, so I'm just going to go over. Here we go. Let's hide this so you're not too confused about it. And so now we can add some color here. This time we don't need Toe adds the nail color, because we can see our nails here, not even the time. The thump is also very toned. Tow us so the nail is behind all of this, so this is mostly it's again. Let's just go over here, get my shadow caller and we can't start doing your shadows. So take your time here. As always, the secret here is always to take your time. Have fun and relaxed with trying if you're ever in Delta, but why can't I draw this? It's because you wrote worrying too much about it. Take your time, practice. Have fun with your practices. And I can guarantee you that with every practice you're getting better. Who were doing very simple shades again? We're not focusing on its right now. Right now, all I want is for you to know how to draw your hands and no the shapes for it. And now we have our basic shapes for a hand and open hands. So next we're going to see fingers were going to draw the finger in different positions and also the thumbs. So, you know, it's shapes and you practiced them individually. So hopefully I will see you in the next few, so see you soon. 5. Drawing Fingers The Easy Way: all right here. Low everyone and welcome back. I hope you've been having fun so far. We are just getting started. So we saw our basic hand shapes, and now we're going to practice a bit more off our fingers. So I have here image. So we drew our fingers from the phone front and backside off the hand. So let's try now to draw them in another position So you can practice that a swell and see how the finger behaves both in this position and when you're flexing its. So this works for all our fingers were going to go on it through one off the fingers. But this shapes will work for any other, and then we go over that some again because it's a different kind of fingers. So first we're going to draw or finger pointing forwards. So I have here my image. And let's do this. As always, we're going to create our shapes first, let's take a look at them. We're not going to worry about our hand here. We're going to draw hand closed in a fist later on, so don't worry. Just focus on the finger and the first thing I want you to notice. Is that the top off the finger? Even though again my finger is a bit weird. T always depends on every person. We have different fingers, so for simple mind will tend to curve a bit upwards when I have. It's pointing forwards, but usually we have basically straight line on top and on the bottom. We tend to have more curved lines like you see, here we see here like this waves. So this is our general rule for the fingers, straight line on top and a Pete's rounded line on the bottom, especially on the tape. So we have this curved here, and I'm going to show you another picture that you can see how straight the upper part off the finger is. As you can see here, this is another person, another hand, another kind off finger. We are all different. So do studied these things. Try to study different hands. It is good not only for practice but for you to create different kinds of characters. Your characters might have different hands between them either. If there men, women older, younger, if they work a lot with their hands, if they're not If they are very careful with their hands, they will always look different. And this finger is very different from this one. But generally speaking, this is how it goes. So we're going to do our shapes again. It's all about how you prefer. I'm going to go with circles again. I feel that the are a pit easier to go here. So we have here a big circle. Then another one here smaller. And then finally we have the one around the tip off the finger, even smaller. And if you want, you can make here online, if that helps you. So there we go. We have here our mind shapes off course. Alternatively, you can go over here and start with our rectangles. One rectangle to tree. So you on Lee, you will know what works better for you. I'm going to leave them both here. Practice them, see how you prefer to go with your shapes, and then we can go for the next part. So again, if you're doing this for the first time, maybe going with the rectangle shapes, it's easier to draw the fingers, especially because you're just getting used to the shapes you're trying to understand how the fingers work, so this gives you the whole shape and it's a bit more concrete's. Then the circles and the line. They might look a bit more abstract, so I just work with what you prefer. So now that we have, our shapes were going to draw our sketch. So again, keep your image. Is your responsible? We're going to make this bigger later on. So yes says you can see there's a pity it off a curve that you can do a swell. So this is our curves. Here. There's a love off curves and counter curves, so but he attention to that. When you're practicing your fingers and your drawings as you're doing this, you see that I'm adding a little here and there. This is physically me just experimenting on how I want my final version to look like. So even though we haven't talked yet about all these details, we can and experiment with them. Israel again watch deem the pictures that you have. If you're using this or any other that you have a look at them, observed them and try to pick one on other detail and add it to your drawings. This is always a good way for you to learn and to experiments, different things that you can do in your hands and fingers. Okay, so now that we have our final finger just going to add some call or very quickly and here we go, we have here our finger pointing forwards, and now we're going to see it a bit flexed and see how it would be, but that All right, so now we're going to troll our finger. How flexed. So it's not straight, but it's also not completely flexed. And let's see how it behaves and how we will draw our shapes in this case. So let's do this. So this time, instead of having a straight line, we're going to to several straight lines. So want here, going down one here and one going straight this straight this way. Okay, so now we have time for our circles. So one circle, two circles and then three circles four circles. If you feel like you need, what else you just living like this and you just connect everything. Eight. You can have your foot circle if it helps you. Now, let's put this one Here we have one version of our shapes. And let's do the other version with the rectangles. So a very similar one. Now we go imagine almost like a drawing skeletons, A skeleton hand here. So we're drying all this bone parts that we have in our fingers. They divide in different bones, So this is almost what it looks like when we're doing our rectangles. So another rectangle here and finally a rectangle with a bit of a kerf. There we go. So these are our main shapes again. I'm going to make it bigger so you can see better. So, yeah, this is what it looks like when we do the the rectangle process. So it looks like we're drawing a skeleton hands off course, very stylized and very cartoony because there's a lot going on here for going with bones. But this is how they are divided. This is how our finger is divided. Any finger. All right, so this is it. Her are half flexed fingers. So now we're going to draw our lasts position here and then the sun. So let's see how we're going to draw a flexed finger. Okay, so here is our less picture for now. Now the first thing you notice is how much over finger is are not heeding, but it looks way smaller than before. We always draw fingers and they will occupy a lot off spice. But here they are very compact when we when reflects them all the way. And we also have a very interesting shape here. We just kind of stopped having straight lines, but it's almost like just a square here. A box. It's almost like a deer in the box. So might see here. So for here we can just straight up draw a box for our finger. This is the space that our fing finger is occupying. Nevertheless, we can come up over here and go for a circus. Now I'd say that circles can be a Pete's more confusing to use here, but still doable. So circles hands the line again. I'm going to leave it here, but, as you can see can be very confusing. To use this version, it's all everything looks with too cluttered. So let's go with our rectangles. This might help us better, especially for using our books here so bucks, and now we just need to make decisions. So we have here this line and then this one. This one is one of the rectangles. This one is now less of a rectangle. But the triangle. And then we have here another directing with goat like we've been doing so far. So this is it. If you wish to, we can even come up over here. And you raised this part so you can see it better and understand better your finger. So when we take or shape over here, you can very clearly see it is a flexed finger. So now that we have our shapes again, we're going to do our sketch. So here we go. We are done with our fingers here. Next, we're going to draw the thumb just to thumb now, so I will see you next. 6. The Thumb Is Different: Hello and welcome back. We are almost finished with the fingers just going. Teoh, look at Tom one more time, and then we're going to draw nickels and a close fist. So before that at school, over our thumb here and practice on Lee the sun seems it's a different finger. It does not behave like all the others we've done so far. The first and base shape for the Tom is always a circle. Then I like to do this girl's line just to to help me out just so I can have a lotion. What part of the third off the somebody's straighter and where it becomes more curves. So, as you can see, we have here a bit of a curve. But here is almost a straight line, and all from here we can again. We couldn't go true rectangles. So we have here this lines and we can go buy this lines that to find the thumb. So now we connect here, and we have one rectangle, a bridge rectangle, but it's almost a retailed, and another one here and now for the last one. I like to go with a circle or almost a circle like we've been doing with our other fingers like this and we have some very divided. It is very easy to to draw the rest from here. So we have these shapes, and now we're going to draw our sketch. So we go from here again, studied the image that you're using A see that here have this carbon. Then it's goes to the insides. So because out and then with something like this. So take advantage off these small details too. Youth, more customization to your hands. And so they have something unique to them. So the something here, there's a curve. Here's that we can do, and then we go down and this is part of our heads. So there we go. We have here a bit off the nail just here May so we can see a little bit of the Nile there . And this is it we have here our thumb. So I use a different image this time, as you can see. So we also take a look at difference fingers and different styles and so that we can explored it and practice that. So now, for final lines. So here it is, very simple thumb now breakfast iss as much as you want. And next, we're going to draw a fist so we can look more closely at the knuckles and how to draw a close to him, so I'll see you there. 7. Drawing The Knuckles Of The Hand: hello and welcome back. So we saw our open hands and how to draw the fingers. And now it's time to draw our hand Close Tso in the feasts So we're going to start with our front views. So the fist is stern tow us like we see in the picture and as always, we're going to start with our shapes. So I'm going to create here my layer, my new layer Pick up my fan Su and shoes a red down for my shapes And now we have Here are mine shape. It's the biggest shape will have to do and it will occupy most off our hand here. So it's still almost like a mountain shape. So we have here it goes a bit tired. At this point, the middle finger will have the nickel at the highest point and the others go below that point like we see here and then we can make a line going down and the same here. And now we just need to connect this to, and we have here our shape. Now for some we have here our circle Bartel hits and then another one here for the tip off that some and it connects here. Our rectangle is right about here. Don't forget when you're drawing that the thumb is underneath the rest off the fingers. So pay attention to that when you're doing, especially when you're doing the final lines. We have the mind shape of her hands and the thumb. Now all you're missing is the position for each finger and for here, instead of doing the rectangle process that we've been doing so far, I feel that's doing the circles can be easier. So we go over here and we find our knuckles. So we have one circle here. It goes on and we have another circle for our first finger, then another. Here we go down and we find another circle. If third finger is the same, we find our circle off from the nickel. Then we can tell and there's another circle right here. And finally for the pinky, we have the smallest circle. We go down and then we have another one for the end of our finger. So this here is very, very useful to do the circles because this way we know where each curve is going to be and where there's a finger ends both on top and on the bottom. So we have here on mine shapes. And now we're going to do our sketch. As always. I'm going to bring this here, give it a bit of conspiracy and now a new layer and we are ready for our sketch. So now we're going to take a moment. We relax the bits and with sketch out our lines now for the knuckles, we have almost like this wave feeling we're drawing tiny waves. What if it before something more pointy like mountain? Some mountain peaks like this. And there we go. We have Here are knuckles. Remember that if you're doing, let's say that your character is very angry, so his real he's closing his fits with a lot of strength. Then the knuckles would be more perimeter since even so, maybe we will have our knuckles. Really? Witt's pointy ends. Otherwise, if it's closed normally we have more off this way feeling for the Nichols. So it all depends on the emotion you want to give to your character and to your hands in general. So now we go down here and we start drawing our fingers so we know how big our fingers are , where they begin and where they end because of our circles. So we have our fingers, son, here. If you're using your image for reference and for practice when you're drawing the hands or anything, really don't just copy everything from the drawing, make it more your style or make some changes to make your drugs more unique. End this way. You're improving both your style and your trying abilities as well. So, like, you see here, I'm exaggerating a bit. This this time I'm putting it even below. Then we have here, so my thumb is a bit outside off the hand, but here I'm making it a bit different. So this is the kind off details that I I'm talking about, that you can change, and now we can make our final lines. And, of course, remember, Dead's both the shapes and the sketch. You don't need to have perfect lines. It doesn't need to look perfect. It's just a sketch is just a study, and when you want to do the final lines, then you can be more careful with how your lines are looking. So this is it for our fists for our close hand, and now we're going to draw our close hand. But in a side view, the shapes were going to be a very similar to to the ones we did for our flexed finger. So we already know a bit about it, so let's do this. 8. Drawing A Closed Hand Punching!: so all right, here we have our picture off are close. Hand the side view. As you can see, it's all very compact. In a way, it can be easier to drop at the same time. If you want to add more details, it can be a bit harder because it seems like we don't have space for everything. But we can do this. We go with simple shapes very slowly, and we'll be able to Gold is off. So let's start going to make here my layer for our shapes and let's discover shapes here. So straight line here on talk. Now we go down here. Oh, we have this line and then going up and my clothes. There we go. There you go. Now, if you want to see that there's another nickel coming up here so we can also make here a shape for it. So we don't forget about it. Here and now, all we have to do is a few lines, so we know where fingers are. So we have this here. If you want, we can do our rectangle, so they are going to look a bit weird here. But let's do this So we have here. One weird shape here is the second. And finally to round show up for the tip. There we go. And if you wish to the same with or time So we have here and here. So this might look very weird right now, but it's a way to do it. And now we just need to put this on this sides, and we always have our image, right. Besides, is so we can take a look at it while we're doing our sketch. So we are sure to put everything in its right place is and that we draw everything as it should. So I'm going to start here with the finger going of here and here. I remember that. Then we have this car. I have quite some wrinkles going on here, so take advantage of that look at your picture. So drink. This one's here, and there's another here and another here. Since our finger is very curved, we're going to have a lot of wrinkles around here. Okay, Something like this. What? Sketches? Enough right now. So once we are finished with our sketch, we're going to drop final line. So now is the time to make our drawing prettier and with the final look. So, as you can see, can be a bit weird, because at some time there's a lot happening. But it's in the focused part off the hand. So in here there's a lot happening, but the rest is so very simple. So again, it's all a matter of practice and doing it, doing these several times, trying out different shapes, if needed, until you're happy with your hands. So now all you have to do is to add some color whenever you're ready else. You in the next video, where we're going to talk about drawing the details in our hands. So that's a fun one. We're going over the hair, fingernails and different types of fingernails and alderden lines and wrinkles that happen in our hands. So hopefully I will see you that 9. Adding Details, Hair And More!: Hey, and welcome back. We are finished withdrawing our hands in their mind positions. You have your basic shapes for any position you want to draw your hands in. And now we're going to talk a bit about details that you can add to your hands. Some off them are usually a must, unless you're going for a very, very minimal style. So the first detail we're going to talk about we already seen a bit of it before is the palm lines, the lines from a poem. So if you're drawing your hands with the poem turn tortures thesis hands are very important when drawing in that position. So we always have this line here that basically comes from or some you can have a more stylised also really exaggerate. Occur, for example, or follow what you see in the picture. And then we have two main lines, one that goes from here and it can connect toe the some line and then another one that has the curve in the opposite direction. So it goes up and it goes from the other side of our hands. So here, off course, these are always different as well. Every person has the lines a bit different from each other, so they are not an exact science. You can have some freedom when drawing this. So let's draw them in our hand Here. This is the same hand that we drew at the beginning. And now we can add our bomb lines. So we have a few of the timeline and then another one going like this and another like this . So, for example, sometimes I did not grow all of this. Sometimes I only thought true off them, it always a bands in. It's all up to your style. Sometimes I only go for the someone, for example, now other than this in the palm of our hands, you might also notice these lines. Here we have several lines in our fingers. There is nothing but lines in our fingers here, here. So in every joint, there's some lines that you can draw if you wish to, or you can leave them behind again. It's all up to your own style and how you prefer. For example, I try always to draw these lines for the joints here, but I always keep it simple as well. So sometimes I just do. One line for it shines, and that sits so it's a lot to you, but it's always good to know about them and to study them toe know where these lines are. So especially if you want to go for a more realistic style. And it's always good to learn. You should always know how the hand goes and how to draw every single detail off it. So, as you can see, I'm going with something very simple here. So this is it. We have lots off tiny lines in your hands. You can add as much or as less as you want, as you can see if I want to do, I can go even looking for more. Let's hear their standing ones here as well. There's a lot of wrinkles going on in our hands, and especially if you're drawing other people, for example, these lines will be even more noticeable. Our skin tends to go a bit looser as we grow older, so the wrinkles will be even more noticeable. Butts. We'll talk a bit more about that later on, when we talk about older hands and baby hands and see their differences. Now we have our wrinkles and small lines in the palm of your hands, but we also have them on the backs of your hands. So I have here again this drawing that we did before, and we also did a bit off this at the time. But let's go over them again. Take a look here at those tiny lines again here on our fingers, especially right here. It's almost like a circle off wrinkles. Same thing on the thumb here is well, we're using here a different image for reference, and you're going to see why in a minute or two. But we also can see here are wrinkles. So there's a lot here and this one, since our our knuckles or joints are brown's. We have here this bones, and they are round the the wrinkles that we have on the backs of her hands in the fingers tend to help thes curved lines very round and almost like a circle. So this again, you can keep it very simple, like it is right now. It wants look bad, but if you wish to, you can add some more details so we can come up over here and to some lines it will give right away. Another feels your hands as well. You can also try to go for something more. Style is so. For example, I can do something like this or like this. It's always a matter off experimenting, and you can find some fun ways to go about the wrinkles in the in your hands so explored it . I think it's a fun exercise. Try different shapes. Go with a square. Maybe something like this. I don't know. Try it out. It's a very nice exercise, and again, it will help find out your own style. So try out different shapes. But for the hands and the details that you doing and who knows, maybe you'll find something and you like some of the shapes, and you'll start doing that for all your characters and your drawings, and you're doing your own style. You're creating your own style here now, other than this wrinkles. And this is what I have this picture here. As you can clearly see, this hand belongs to a man, and so you might notice here that there's some hair Now if you're doing a character that is very Harry, this is something that you can at two your hands. So as you can see here, we have some hairs. Something here in all the the feet. Niche finger there, some hair. There we go, hair over here. Sometimes it can have some in this part as well, in the hands going inside the hands. So this is also something else that you can add to your hands if you wish to. If you're doing a male character, for example, and if you feel that your character is lots off hair to consider adding some hair to the fingers, longer hairs or maybe shorter, it's totally up to you. And as you can see, as I add some hair to the fingers here, it changes completely. My drawing, as you know, and you saw the videos, we were doing this hand based in a few mill hand. So it was my hands, and since my hands specially look a bit more sturdy and bigger went, adding the hair, it looks a bit more like a mile hand. So, like I said, it's all up to how you draw your your hands, and it depends on your character as well. Everyone has different hands so they will look different. But we'll also talk up. It's the rules, not the rules. I don't like to call them rules. But that said the guidelines to draw male or female hands in general. 10. Drawing Nails And Characterization: Let's just take a look at nails. We have different kinds off nails. Some people like to let them naturally. Others like to cut them very short. All those like to paint her nails at some nail polish in have colored fingernails. Sometimes they let it grow. A lad's some nails are rounded. Some nails are very pointy or squared, for example. So let's see here a few examples. This is our first example. So as you can see, these nails are very pretty. They have some manicuring them. They are a big, long ends. They are squared at the top, so they are cut. It is very straight, and they have some nail polish now. Other than this, we also have very normal nails. Now this is also a female hand, as you can see, but they are quite shorts and they end up in around steep right here. So again, you don't need to draw your female characters always with very long nails. They can also look very normal, just round normal cutting nails. But we also can exaggerate them a lot and have very, very long nails like we see here. So about how you want to go with your nails, how you want your character to be. And if you're going for a well character, for example, a man stand to have their nose very short, sometimes even going below the finger like we see here. And, as you can see, comparing toe this one, for example, they are pretty rounds and smaller in the fingers, while men's nails tend to be more squarer that they look always bigger. And we tend to use a bit more squared shapes for man's fingernails, while for a woman we go for around its shapes. This is something that I've been talking about while drawing other parts off the body is that for women, we usually go for more curves, lines and rounded shapes. But for men, it's always more bulky and square shapes in straight lines, and the same goes for the hands and fingernails. So let's draw here some types off fingernails that you could do because there's some other styles that we can go here. For example, let's say that your character likes to bite their nails. You can do that as well. Let's start with debt one. Even so, going to make here very simple shape and they have you. Then they'll and this person likes to bite their nails a lot. So So we tend to have a bit off irregular nail white here so you can exaggerate it more or less. But they will always or a lot of times they will look a bit broken because, well, when you're biting them. And I know because I used to do that a lot still do sometimes is that we are breaking our nails and sometimes they won't look welcome. Did so they will look quite broken and some dance in them. No, let's see a more normal nail. So around it here on the bottom And then we go a bit here and hence in around its star so very simple. We already drew some when drawing our hands so you can go more round with it or more squared. So this is a bit more squared, but you can also go with something like this. Now let's say you want to draw then a hand for a male character. So we have a bit off a bulk your finger right here and we can exaggerate here. How big the alias, something like this, for example, so it's really exaggerated. I would say, for example, if you're going for very squared shapes for your nails and for your fingers, maybe someone that works a lot with their hands. It is a farmer or a mechanic, for example. Hands like Israel would food 12 and then we have to complete opposites. Someone there likes to have very pretty hands and nails so very long. And so we have a more square style, so almost rectangle and then we have another style, which is the point is cell. For example. Let's say you want to draw, which this will be a good style for her. Almost look almost like a claw. So you feel want to draw in which going like this will be a good idea problem. So now, very quickly, I'm just going to true to do my final lines feel free to do some practices is well, and we'll talk a bit more right after, so I'm going to fast forward this very quickly. No. So we have here the final lines for each of our fingernails and very quickly legis. Talk a bit about how you paint them or how you can at some colors, different ways, different kinds, off nail polish, for example, eso for especially for this one. So as we talked about, we tend to do this pinkish stone for our nails, right? Usually we have pinkish stone for a nails. And like I said, if you sure on your nails a lot Ori in the nail broke and we see the end, the skin that is underneath it it is usually a big lighter, then our usual skin so we can see that Gregory. So something like this, it would look like that it has a different tone than the rest of our skin. Then again, we have here our pink stone are pinkish stone for ah, a normal nail. Let's say it like this. It's this is the or normal or default now here, and we have to know, and then the tip of the Nellis, usually white or almost white, like this. Unless off course, if you have a character that likes to cut their nails very, very short, maybe this part won't be very noticeable. Now for the male hands. We can go sometimes for a darker tone. So instead, off this lighter pink we can go for something darker. Maybe like this. Um, maybe beat lie to still a pinkish tone, but a pits darker and the same goes for this part of our finger we can play with, Ah, these differences between male and female hands with color as well. Now for our longer nails, we have our 1st 1 So let's say we have some polish. Let's say there's a French medical here, so I know we can pick pick here Redstone and we have this party's reds and this part we leave it white because we have this line painted in white, usually in the French manicure. And then finally, like I said, Let's say we are drawing a witch. So a very, very traditional which you look, we have a grain skin tone. We have some claw like nails, and now we just need to add some color. So I don't know. Maybe a black is a good choice for our which nails So a Blake, or almost like it's on right here for our, which so again play with his ideas. Experimental lot. There's a lot you can do thesis, just some examples, but you can look up for different kinds. Off nails. Look for different hands and you'll see difference Nails as well. But these are some off the ways you can go with your nails. This is it for now. And in the next video, we're going to talk about differences between female and male hands. So hopefully I will see you there. Bye bye. 11. Masculine And Feminine Hands: Hello and welcome back. We're now going to talk about masculine and feminine hands and their usual differences when drawing them. So before we start drawing, I have here a picture and you can very clearly see that when you're drawing male hands, we tend to go for bigger hands, very bulky. One of the differences a lot of times is that the fingers tend to be shorter and very squares or very big. They are quite bulky, are much like sausages, but with women, we tend tohave thinner fingers. The hands themselves are smaller and the fingers are longer know that they look like they are longer than the poem, so it's pretty much the opposite off hands in men. So I have here these two images and you can already see what I'm talking about. So as you can see, this is very bulky and the fingers look very short. But then here they are thinner and they look longer and once again we have more curved lines and off course that we also have these idea off longer fingers because when drawing female hands and women in general tend to have longer fingernails so that the fingers will look longer than normal because of that, while, as you can see here, very short nails, they make it look like the fingers are shorter. So let's draw our Hansen. We're going to start read our masculine hand here, and as always, the shapes will be pretty much the same. But let's nevertheless practice them again. And as you can see, compared to the hand that withdrew at the beginning, this is much more square than before. So here we have now here is you can see is the same curve has here and now we can connect them. There we go. And again we can go for the rectangles and when drawing a masculine hand, maybe going with the rectangles is the Becks the best option? Because then you'll have more the masculine feeling. And as you can see, there's not a lot off differences in our rectangles here. The all the time we did that, all right angles will become singer and thinner as we gets to to the tip off the fingers. But here they are almost the same sighs now, our circle for the Tom Rectangle and even another rectangle. So as you can see It's all very bulky, very big and very squared. So now we can do our sketch here. The joints are very pro women int so let's take advantage of that. So, as you can see, the these ships that we're doing now are completely different. Then our first hand that we drew at the beginning. Now off course, this is just one picture again, there's several types off hands. I'm sure you can find other types. This is one type completely different from what we've done so far. And I wanted to explore that with you. So you know how to do it as well. But as you can see, the main shapes are exactly the same as the others. So as you can see that the nails were very short so they don't go a lot over the finger, the finger ends and the nail is right at the same line. Also, I'm exaggerating a bit more these wrinkles on the fingers again compared to the first hands that we drew. So there we go. We have here are mile hand. So as you can see, it is very bulky, very squared. We exaggerated the joins. They go right out off the finger instead of going straight like we've been doing so far. Shorter males, shorter fingers. And now let's try and do our feminine hands. And now, for our family in hands again, we're going to start with our shapes. And again they're going to be very similar toe similar to what we've done so far. So first or squared shape for the hand and now here on top, we connect this a circle for the thumb. You already know this by now. And as you can see, I'm doing hit a town rectangle. But here again, I'm going back to the circle and here we can again do our rectangles. But as you can see, they look smaller. Everything looks very small or very thin compared to what we did before. And that shines here. They don't go outside of our rectangles, as you can see. So this is something more similar to what we did at the beginning of our videos in our first feed use. So there we go. These are our shapes. We're going to bring them here to the side. Now we just have shapes here. We don't have a nose yet, and we're going to leave that part toe our sketch that we're going to do now. So as you can see, these lines are more straightforward. We don't have any joints going out off the hands, so this is quite different from what we did before. They are sinner. They look longer, and so he rehear of both our family and masculine hands. As you can see, they're very different from each other. I decided to leave the wrinkles out on my feminine hands. I felt that it worked better with less details. I exaggerated the big last my shading as well. I added some color to the nails. They are much longer, but they're also thinner than in our masculine hands. So it's very different and generally speaking, this is how we go when drawing feminine or masculine Hance within toe make them look very different, and again we tend to draw more straight lines and square shapes for men and for women, we use a lot more curves and a more delicate look. So this is it for now, and I was you soon in the next video where we're going to talk about old hands and baby hands, so I'll see you there 12. Old Hands And Baby Hands: Hello and welcome back. We are almost finished. All we're missing now is talking about old and baby hands and how to draw them. Now I have here two pictures, So two examples. The 1st 1 is baby Morna. It's from this the movie Marijuana. If you saw it already and at the beginning of the movie we have our main character. But in baby version, so very small, very tiny. And as you can see, the hands are very, very round. So we have the palm of the hand very round. It's almost just a circle here and then for the fingers. They are all very short, so it's almost like it's a circle with some baby carrots poking out off the circle. And these are our shapes. When we want to draw baby characters or toddlers, they have very round hands. They are very shabby, usually so. The overall shapes for them are circles, and the same goes for the hands. So basically a circle for the palm of the hand and then very short fingers for all their hands. I have here another example. So we have here Mama Cocoa from the movie Coco. It's also very good movie, and it's a good place for you to look not only a chance but the characters and the care to design, because it has a lot of differences between male and female characters older and younger, you can see how how the artists played with shapes to create their character. So it's a good place for you to go in, study your character design and see how you can play with your shapes to create different characters. Now for the hands. Mama, Coca is a very old character, and you can see that the hands are very different here. So the Nichols spoke out a lot. You very clearly see here, not a knuckle. I'm sorry, but joints here they go out and then they go, um, dinner again. And then again, another circle. So what happens here is first. The fingers tend to go thinner when drawing other people, mostly because the skin comes loose, it becomes looser, and so everything is a bit falling. Let's say like this, and so we see a lot off the bomb instructor off the fingers, and that's what happens here. You can see that in this example off Mama cocoa and also you have a lot more wrinkles. Again, the skin is looser than before than when we are younger, and so we have a lot more wrinkles going on in our hands. That's ends for coloring. Sometimes we can add some different colored spots, for example, or or some freckles in the hands. We tend to start having different coloration, you know, skin as we grow old. So this is also something that you can explore and well without further to. Let's draw our handstand. This is not just talking. We're going to practice older and baby hands as well. So I have here my reference images for growth off them, an older version and a baby version. Let's start with the older one, since it's it can be a bit more difficult, I think. And again, we're going to start with our shapes. They're going to be very similar toe what we've done before. So there we go. We have this shape. Now we can do all circle for the thumb, already the rectangle and then ending with a circled rectangle here and now we can go for the rest of our fingers. So again, the curve here we connect to the other shape and now we can draw fingers again. Do what you prefer. I think I'm going with it. I think I'm going to go with the circles this time because we really see here the circles appearing and going out off the finger. Hear, hear. And here, if you want, you can even do this shape so you can really see how it will behave. And so we have. Here are our circles as well for good knuckles. There we go and then we have the tips of our fingers. But as you can see here we have this curves almost like the skin is going below our fingers and showing the bone shape. If you go and take a look at the bone structure off the hand, you'll notice that we have some bones that have this shape the curve to the insides. So this is what we have when drawing and molded hands. So we have Here are shapes goingto bring it here and now we can do our sketch very short nails. As you can see, a lot of other people also tend to live their nails very short as well and Of course, you can exaggerate as much as you like this shapes. You can make them the curse even more exaggerated or the opposite as well. You can make everything more curved or lasker. It all depends on your character and how you want your character to look. But I'd say that for all the characters, try to exaggerate your cars. Give that sense off. Loose skin and wrinkles do a lot of wrinkles as you can see the knuckles. I have lots of wrinkles, so exaggerate that, and those wrinkles look losers. Well, then, what we saw before in the masculine hands, for example, and the older your character is, the more thesis features will be a scene and and become more perimeter since. So, as you can see, I exaggerated a lot here in my curves and the wrinkles. Don't be afraid off repeating our lines a lot. It is very normal. It will happen. You want to have your minds looking good, so you want to repeat them as much as you'd like until you have them like you want them now . As you can see, I'm changing a bit. The mills here I'm making them a bit bigger. Like I said before, feel free when you're doing your final lines. Toe ads, your own twists to your drawings. You're not just scoping your image, you're learning with it and you're improving it. You're adding your own style to your drawings, so don't merely copy your images. You're learning the shapes, but you're also trying to give your drawings your own twists. Nature, your lines go. It always works better when you're not danced about your lines and you just scribble away. This might not be your style later, but if you learn to be massive with your lines, you'll be more relaxed while doing them and you'll be having more fluid lines instead off danced line. So let yourself go. Be messy with your lines so you can have very relaxed lines. So the wrinkles have more steps, so they will cast quite some. Sure, the compared to the other hands that we drew so far. So there we go. We have here are old hands. As you can see, it's very different from everything we've done so far. The knuckles really broke out off the finger, and we can take adventures off that and it really exaggerates that shape. So this is our example old hands. And now we're going to draw some baby hands, which is going to be very much easier. And so we have here a baby hand, probably a toddler hand. We already have some wrinkles showing up when they're even smaller. Everything is very smooth and cleaned. There's almost no wrinkle going on. Maybe just a lie. No. Two, because they're there so round. And so should be that the skin shows some details, but there's not a lot going on. We're going to style eyes a bit more these hands right now. But as for the the main shapes, like I said, it's mostly a circle and then baby carrots coming out from it. So let's try. So we have here. We can draw here like this instead of going with the square. We're going with a circle so we can really exaggerate this shape and this ideal for on this in the baby and our baby carrots coming out the thumb will be a bit different, but and now for the rest, some heavy carrots. We can exaggerate, so these are bigger already, but we can exaggerate and make them even smaller. So maybe like this, we're going for a very stylized way here. So that's it's sexual rate hero shapes and make very small fingers like we signed them. One of image where that the poem off the hand is way bigger than our fingers, and now we can do our skit show. Maybe Niles tend to be very short, or we tend to make them very short or else still be scratching themselves a lot. So when drawing them, we probably want to do that as well. Baby hands can be very fun to draw and probably the easiest to go with. But to tell me, feel free to tell me which hands that you have more difficulty or less difficulty. Which ones were your favorites to draw, and what kind off hand, or what position do you find that it's easier to draw? Share it with me? And so we have here both our baby and other hands. As you can see, their shapes are very different. A baby hand is more uniform in terms of shapes, but another hand has a lot off shapes and different girls and a lot more details. So this is it. I hope you had fun and hopefully I will see you in the next video. Bye bye 13. BONUS: The Victory Pose!: Hello and welcome back now, ASAP. Illness. We're going to draw our hand in a very different position than what we did so far. So we're going to draw our hand a victory position or in the Bunning position if you prefer to. So this is very different at the hand. Behaves a bit differently, but overall, our shapes were going to be the same that we did so far. So let's see how well do this so shapes first, as always and again, we have here our squared shape going to every bit mark okay. And we could down and we close. So we have our 1st 1st trip. Now here we go above and do the same curve and we're going to connect this to our mind ship . So we have two fingers here, and the other two are down here. So rectangle and rectangle, two rectangles here. As for the other fingers, same thing. But they are stretch. So it's not nothing different then what we did so far my intention toe this line, especially when we're doing our sketching. But we look at that a bit lit, so rectangle rectangle and around the tip there we go now for do term circle. We always have your circle here and then rectangle and around the tip. So this is it. As you can see, these are the same shapes that we've used so far, so nothing really changes it. The only thing that changes is their position and where they are. And so we have here our men shapes. And now we are ready to throw our sketch. So a target own a new lawyer, and we can start always with our image. Besides, so we can always take a look at it. While we're drawing this way, we could pay attention to certain details and add them toward drawings. So, for example, like I said, here we have this car. Don't worry too much about your lines. Right now. This is just a sketch so that you can see once you nail down the mine shapes. Every other position will be fairly easy because you already know what ships to use. And you just need to adopt those shapes toe the position that you're drawing. But overall, do all is going to be the same. So just practice a lot. The shapes, if needed, just feel up of a bunch off, sketch full pages or open up a big document on your computer and draw the shapes only if you want to. You can just practice those the shapes that we've done. And once you're sure about them, you can start practicing the whole hands because once you know your shapes, you'll be able to draw your hands in any position. And these goes not only for hands but for the arms for the face. For any part off the human body ends for any object. Really, For anything that you want to draw, you can simplified them into very basic shapes and go from there. And this is it we have here our victor hand O R R bunny position and this is it again. No, the shapes and you know how to draw any hand in any position. So I hope you had fun and that you practice a lot more hands and hopefully I will see your assignments as well. So feel free to share it with me. I always love to see your work and have fun 14. Time To Practice (Assignment): Hey, welcome back. Now we are done weeds, all our learning and your drawings. And now it's time for your son's so you can put to practice everything that we've learned so far, so this will be very simple. I'm going to give you these reference images, and you just need to choose one and throw it just like we did in the class. So start with the shapes, draw the shapes on top of the image if needed, then do the sketch and finally clean everything up. Wade your final lines and some coloring. Take as long as you need. There's no rush. There's no one behind you, counting the time and telling you to finish this up quickly. There's no need for dead's. Take your time and repeat as much as you.
